I actually found this second novel disappointing. The heroine proved annoying rather than confused, and became very irritating giving the book more frustration rather than empathy.
The mystery was fair enough, and although you knew there had to be another antagonist, it wasn't immediately clear. What was clear that for a private investigator, she was incapable of listening - even to her own informant.
Umming and ahhing over whether to go on to the next novel.
Elle needs to come to terms with her enchantress side. She's not taking to feeding from others, and it's going to have disastrous consequences. This is a fast paced story, and I really enjoyed the conflict between Elle and coven, and Niall. Is Niall really bad? Personally I hope not. There always seems to be a question, and this is something that bothers Elle. I enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to reading the book.
With the Coven out to kill all Enchanters, will Elle and Niall be able to stay in Edinburgh? And what is with all the people disappearing? These questions and more will possibly be answered... These stories of love, secrets and mystery are entertaining.
Elle Chambers is a vampire. Not the bloodsucking kind. She feeds on emotion. She is conflicted, however, because if she goes too far when "feeding" she can, literally, kill people by draining them dry. That's a problem for her boyfriend Niall, the only other vampire like her in Edinburgh. He is much, much older than she is and in his long life he has, in fact, killed people while feeding on them. Although she refuses to do the same, Elle is in love with him despite the fact she abhors what he has done in the past. Complicated? Yes and it only get better in "Witch and Famous" because Elle, an insurance investigator by day with a werewolf office assistant, is called upon to look into an apparent suicide by a rising young singer. While pursuing the investigation she enlists the aid of a young goblin girl, discovers that there is at least one other - previously unknown - vampire like her and Niall - a vamp with evil on her mind and the power to maybe change the face of Edinburgh. When he turns up missing, Elle is also trying desperately to find him. This is the second book in a trilogy starring Elle, her friends, and enemies and it is a wonderful story, even for people like me who do not normally read paranormal novels. The characters are appealing, the setting - Edinburgh - is off the beaten path for most American readers, the dialogue is well presented and the narrative is smooth. Another plus: This is not book for "insiders," by which I mean those who are regular readers of novels about witches, warlocks and the like. As a result, it is a very accessible read for those of us who know little or nothing about spell casting and other witchy things. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it.
Athough I enjoyed this book, I don't think it's as good as the first one unfortunately. However, I'm also willing to admit that I could have had unrealistically high expectations after being so delighted with the first one. Elle is hired to determine whether a sudden death is a murder or a suicide. And that's pretty much all I can tell you without giving away any of the books secrets. Going to be a short review isn't it? I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series as there were many questions still to be answered, particularly regarding Elle's mother and her goblin friend, Siobhan. Witch and Famous is well written. The characters are well developed and complicated, much like we humans. The story keeps you guessing and has a satisfying ending. I wasn't gasping for more when I finished it, but I will most certainly read the next in the series.
Ellie Chambers, an enchantress still learning about her magic. She refuses to kill to feed, refuses to kiss strangers to obtain energy. Her lover, Niall has his own secrets, his past finally catching up to him. When Ellie senses traces of an enchantress at a death scene, she automatically jumps to the conclusion it is Niall. Her insecurities and jealousies makes her fall into Victoria's trap. Now Ellie is the only one who can save the goblins, Niall and the missing witches and warlocks. Ellie must learn the truth and accept what she is and what she needs before Victoria can destroy all that is around them. Its a fun little series of compassion, humor and truth. Learning to accept the differences of others, without having to kill.
Another mesmerizing and masterfully written book by Eve Paludan and Stuart Sharp, presented by J.R. Rain. This is the second book in the Witch Detectives series featuring Elle Chambers, an enchantress and one of Scotland's top insurance investigators. In this book Elle and her lover Niall go up against an ancient evil hungry to revenge old hurts and start a war between the factions of Scotland's supernaturals. Elle has to face fear, lothing, and herself in order to overcome this evil. In the story she sums up her battle perfectly, "Sometimes innocence isn't what the world needs." If you liked Witchy Business, you will love Witch and Famous. Spellbinding
I couldn't help it, I was curious, and I just had to read the sequel. Even though I lamented the first one because it was short and it had instalove and the development (?), I wanted to know what happens after.
I knew there was a glitch somewhere to that relationship, what with falling in love so suddenly with someone you hardly know. Trust issues, man.
Though I'm glad that book two explored that; deadly, but there's that.
Well written and fast paced. Learning more about the characters and their abilities to use emotions as fuel. A new take on the Vampire genre that I like. Again there's mystery, romance, Witches, Goblins and a deep, dark well under ground (that last part was really spooky). I am enjoying this series and will continue onto the 3rd.
This 2nd book in the series was just as good as the 1st. Elle and Niall are still learning about each other as Elle is trying to learn her way around her new existence. Enter an evil person from Niall's past and you're off and running! A wonderful book by some great authors...
As an avid reader of the Samantha moon stories I was excited when I saw the authors name pop up and this is the second book in the series I read these two in two days And I’m about to go grab the third one. I’m not sure if the fourth one has been released I hope so if not I’ll be waiting on bated breath.
Shallow characters, especially Elle Chambers and the story became silly. Series started out good with Book 1, but this book became too wordy and the storyline became weak. I hate saying that, but imo, it's how it affected me.
