Although this is the beginning of the series it has the feeling of an established story line. I really like the idea and am looking forward to more of the series.
Our hero and heroine fell in love as teens. Then years later they meet up again and sparks fly. I don’t usually like second chance romances but this one was great! It managed to keep our hero from looking like too much of a jerk.
Anyway, strong characters and a very good story.

Entertaining mystic listening 🎶🔰

Another will written romantic family and friends relationships short story adventure thriller by Tricia O'Malley prequel to Mystic Cove Series. Margaret lives in Mystic Cove, Ireland with her mother. Both possess special forces which Margaret Ross not like. She has a love 💘 affair on the Mystic Cove beach 🌴. There is a strange something going on in the cove. Margaret finds herself pregnant and leaves going to Boston to live with a cousin. I would recommend this novella and author to 👍 readers of romantic relationships novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 👒😀☺🏡

I really hoped this was going to be awesome, but it was just okay. I almost stopped reading but I had the feeling it might get better. I'm usually right about these things. Not today.

The characters were interesting but written in such a way as to tell the reader what to think about them rather than demonstrating it through their actions. The setting is pretty awesome but falls flat because of a lack of description. For example, a key scene happens on a sandy beach. That scene would really come alive if we were given more information to process it. More involvement of the senses in all the scenes would go a long way.

This is a prequel to what appears to be a "romance" genre series. The main character is quite in love with another key character, though we are told that it took a while to get to that point, it really feels like it blossomed almost instantaneously. There is quite a bit of lusting and desiring going on and its not subtle. Lots of readers should enjoy that :)

This short novella was a nice set up for the start of the series.
I liked the setting, because: Ireland and witches, what's not to like?
But the plot and execution of this story left me wanting...

Right before the romantic and kinda but not really steamy scene in this book, the heroine of the story says the following:

Don't stop. I want to be a woman with you.

I know it was supposed to be intimate and romantic, but I just couldn't help laughing...

What left me wanting more the most though, was the ending. Everybody just gave up, nobody fought for what they wanted.
I was hoping this story would continue, with the same characters and love story, in the first full book, but nope...
Shame, because this could have been so much more.

I will be continuing with the first book, because I'm hoping it will give me some kind of closure about this love story, but I won't be holding my breath...

Denying her gift and refusing to be a freak leads to heartache and loneliness as Margaret flees Ireland pregnant and alone to make it in Boston, but now that her daughter has gone to Ireland and found herself as well as her happiness Margaret is forced to return. Facing old demons, facing old heartbreaks and trying not to let them crumble the gilded shroud she has ensconced herself in as she attempts to keep from breaking completely. The cove isn't having it and Margaret is in for the ride of her life and taking us along with her! A nice backstory to fill in a bit of Margaret and her daughter's backstory and hinting at a bit of Fiona's backstory. I do hope the author lets more of that out in the future. I can't wait to listen to the next story in the series!

The O'Brien women are different. Born with the ability to see things beyond the normal they also develop talents in additional otherworldly ways. Fiona is A healer raising her daughter Margaret to embrace the differences. But Margaret is having none of it she wants to be normal.

This is a prequel to The Mystic Cove Series and is a good lead in to the whole bunch. Acute easy romance with a cliffhanger to take you in to the series.

Wild Irish Roots is the prequel novella to the Mystic Cove series briefly details the relationship between Margaret and Sean, which I is background for the first full book, Wild Irish Heart. I have had this book on my TBR List for quite a while. I was excited for the Irish setting as there aren't a great deal of contemporary romances set in that back drop.

It's so hard to review of a book of this length. I don't want to say too much and spoil the story, but that doesn't leave me a lot to talk about because the book was so short. I enjoyed the descriptions of Ireland and Grace's Cove, it's a beautiful part of the country. Grace refers to Grace O'Malley, infamous pirate queen, who is an ancestor to the females in the Mystic Cove series. The author has provided more details on Grace O'Malley here, including pictures of the Cove and surrounding area.

So Grace's female descendants are blessed with special gifts. Fiona and her daughter, Margaret, are two such descendants blessed with gifts of healing and empathy, respectively. Margaret is the heroine of this story but she does not want the special gifts. She believes that being different or special makes her a freak. This causes Margaret to treat Fiona quite poorly. I have to say that I was not enamored of her character. I know she is only nineteen years old... but she was bratty, selfish and obstinate.

Margaret's boyfriend is Jeff and they have a very sweet relationship in the early stages of puppy love. The budding relationship between these two characters was endearing and reminded me of those young immature relationships that kids normally have in high school. But like those type of relationships, Jeff and Margaret are both too immature to have an adult relationship and deal with adult issues. This creates a lot of drama and hurt feelings... and worst of all, Margaret is a runner. I'm not a big fan of heroines that run away from their problems and it seems to be Margaret's modus operandi.

This story does end quite abruptly... and the blurb for the second book doesn't mention either of these characters. So I am not sure how everything ties together. I will keep reading because I do like the touch of witchy magic that it seems the series heroines will have, and I want to read more about Ireland. I hope the future heroines are older and more mature though. I have gotten burnt out on characters in the new adult age range.

This book was free on Amazon as of the time this post was written. 3 stars / 2 flames. Full review posted at Bambi Unbridled.

I really enjoyed this story as it was being told, but looking back on it - and questioning whether I want to read the series books or not - I'm feeling a bit let down. I think the reason I enjoyed this novella so much was because of the promise it held. After all, there's something magical about Mystic Cove, Margaret is empathic, and her mother is empathic-plus. So the world seems promising. :-)

Sadly, though, I did not enjoy the main character: Margaret was too immature for me. And Sean! Her love interest? I'd have slapped him if I could. I'd have hit both of them upside the head if I could. :-(

I was not a fan of how this story ended. After their :-(

The novella ends with Sean

After reading that ending, I was not at all interested in reading the series books. But I saw that a preview of book one was included after the prequel novella, so I read a few pages of it. It seems to be about Margaret's adult daughter. So I guess Argh! So no, I don't think I'll read this series. The world might be interesting, and maybe Keelin (Margaret's daughter) would be a better protagonist than Margaret was, but I'm just not interested enough to find out. :-(

So while I really did enjoy this prequel novella, I do not plan to read any more of this series.

Oh, I so wanted to love this book. For some reason, I am drawn to Ireland (and Scotland) and whenever finding books set in Ireland I try to read them. And magic on top of that.

But Wild Irish Roots didn`t do it for me. Margaret is a late teenager/youngster (nineteen), born to a family entwined with magic but she does not understand nor like this kind of life. Margareth has the ability to feel others emotions. She lives with her mother in Grace`s Cove, a small town in Ireland.

Sadly, I did not like Margaret nor Sean. But continuing wuth Wild Irish Heart, hoping to meet more mature charachters :)

Wild Irish Roots - Prequel 4.75 Stars

This is the story of Margaret and Sean, Keelin’s parents. Again the story is beautifully written and it was interesting to see how Keelin and Margaret ended up in Boston. I must admit however that they are my least favorite couple. Their immaturity is frustrating and in this case I wanted to shake some sense into both Margaret and Sean. My heart just broke for Fiona as she was forced to except the decisions Margaret made and let her fly free.

Hm, meeeh. I thought some light reading would relieve me of the stressful state I am in currently, but no such luck. It's only a short story and would probably be a lot more interesting if I only knew what would happen after (contrary tow hat might one think about a prequel) it was nicely written and set in Ireland, so that is definitely a plus. Aaaaand the cover is really pretty. Since I read the kindle edition, though, I am not sure what good that does me.

Not enough to this story.

there is no need to get into this book unless you are prepared to buy more books. it stops about the time you get interested. this tends to make me very angry. somehow I must miss the warning that I have to buy
more to to know what happens next. I'm not going to this time......

A nice start

A wilful child goes her own way and set in motion a series of amazing life stories. It's worth the read and pulls at all the requisite heartstrings.

This wasn't really what I was expecting and it was very interesting so I will be reading the next book in the series.
I liked the character development even though I couldn't sympathize with the main character. The format of a character rejecting her ancestral powers is pretty standard and something I have a hard time with. Imagine if Mozart had rejected the music running in his family to become a shoemaker, nothing wrong about that but at least I would like to see the characters learn from their powers before just rejecting them and calling themselves freak. I mean they have all served to them on a platter and they just go: "Nope, I don't want to be different" without even knowing what they are talking about. Totally grate on my nerves. The mother telling the guy not to run after her daughter after she discover he is her true love was also really bad.
Still I liked the story and I think I will enjoy reading more. I'm just hoping the next book will go more the way I want it to go, lol.

I can't really say a lot of good about this story. I don't know that the story itself was bad, but I disliked Margaret so much it tainted the rest of the story. In the beginning, she is a spoiled selfish brat that didn't deserve the wonderful mother she had. And yes, Sean shouldn't have run, he was a young man who was shocked, and when he came back she expected him to crawl after her and got mad when he didn't. Then after 28 years the story picks up and she is still a annoying twit. She gets mad at him because he had a previous relationship (hello separated 28 years). He stopped seeing the OW as soon as Margaret reappeared. She goes back to Baltimore, he begs and pleads for her to give him another chance, and when she does come back she still makes him suffer, and never once apologizes for her part in the entire mess. I truly disliked her and I can't really say more about it. I do not think I will read more of the series, but I may give book one a try since it has so many good reviews and it is not a second chance story.

This is a quick short story that shares the brief love story between Margaret and Sean (Keelin’s parents). If you read book one or read the summary, you know that it did not end well, because Margaret runs away to America to start a new life with her baby. It was nice to see what had happened to cause the two to split and how Margaret ended up in the States.

Stupid Sean.

Poor Margaret. I felt super bad for her, because Sean was an asshat. Yes, I get WHY he got freaked out, but still. Like WHAT THE HECK MAN!? I would have done the same thing as Margaret. However, she makes me mad in Book one. Not cool to do that to your kid…secrets are not cool and keeping her away from her granny? BUT I get why she wanted away from all that. I’m not sure how I would handle everything myself.

This was short and a part of me is still rooting for Margaret and Sean to get back together even though it’s been 20+ years and it's damn near impossible I feel.

If you like the series, then I think this is an important read to get the background story. It was good and quick. Out of five stars, I stamp this with 4.

4 or 5 stars.
Before reading this I'd read the first in the series (when that was free) and another in the series. This is a precursor as it were to book one. It's not really a full story, a standalone book so if you're looking for that you may be disappointed. I generally don't like those sorts of books. However, I enjoyed this, as I did the others I have read in the series.

Magical realism. Margaret, and all the females in her family line have some extrasensory gift. Something Margaret finds difficult to come to terms with. It has much in common with the other books - set in Ireland, romance and a sizzling sex scene, and the mysterious glowing of the cove with it's mysterious signals.
It's better than other #.5's I've read and other free ebooks so I would recommend. It's quite an easy yet good and intriguing read. It also gives you the first two chapters of book #1 for free. If you don't like it - you won't have spent much time to get through it. But if you read the synopsis and liked the sound of it then I think you'd probably like it.

No

Margaret is different. She is empathic, allowing her to see other people’s feelings. But she doesn’t want to be different. So she ignores that part of herself.

I didn’t like how Margaret treated her mother. I didn’t like how she disregarded her empathic and witchy abilities. I didn’t like how there was already a graphic lustfest at page 10. That was too early in the book. Too fast. At a point where nor the story nor the main characters had been developed enough. Ugh. Let me be clear: I don’t mind when there’s a longer build-up! But the story just wasn’t ready for it yet. I wasn’t ready for it yet. I didn’t like it, full stop.

And why does Sean feel the need to apologize for bad service, when Margaret had picked the restaurant? I don’t like inconsistencies like that.

And frankly, it was boring. Not the Irish charm I had expected. So, a no from me. Which is sad, because I had already bought a couple of books in this series, thinking I’d love them! Gonna chuck them out anyway. Lesson learned.

An enchanting little story about roots, heritage and accepting (or not) one's responsibilities.
This is the prequel to Wild Irish Heart, which - unfortunately, in this case - I read first, so I knew this book did not have the ending I hoped for, which made me a bit biased even before I started it.
If I manage to put that feeling aside, this is a charming story about Margaret who cannot accept what her mother is, and what she herself might be, and chooses a different way.
Like the (proper) first book in this series, this story was well told, with what I call "genuine" characters, i.e. someone who feels real, whose actions and reasoning you can understand, etc., and kept the reader captivated from the first sentence.
Definitely a recommendation, especially to read this first before you start the actual series.

I was disappointed in this book, I'm afraid. I found too many cliches mixed in with characters who still had a great deal of growing up to do come the end of the story. It had potential, and I kept reading with the hope of each character proving themselves worthy of my time, but they let me down. Margaret constantly annoyed me with her attitude and responses towards her mother, and Sean's reaction to the light was, to say the least, pathetic - an overreaction that drew the writer into the story in order to lead the story to where she wanted it to go, rather than allowing the character to make sense of his response.

I won't be reading the rest of the series.

Exciting!

Ireland has beckoned to me even as a child. My mother was a Bourke which actually came to Ireland from France. This was on her father's side. He came to America with his father as a three year old. My father's father came to America from Poland.
His mother emigrated from Ireland.
I visited Ireland at 68. One of my daughter's took me there for my September birthday...three days before America's 9/11.
This series is like revisiting my "homeland" again. I felt like my soul belonged in Ireland during that visit.
I am going to enjoy these stories, because this author seems to know her subject.

I purchased this not realizing it was a novella which starts out a series, but that's my fault. I should have read better. I don't typically like novellas because they are usually too short to result in a really great read.

All that said, I enjoyed the Irish setting and the magick, but I didn't particularly enjoy the character of Margaret. She was selfish and fairly one-dimensional, but I really felt for and enjoyed her mother, Fiona.

I'm anxious to read the next book to see where this series goes and I'm hoping that the other characters are NOT like Margaret.

Since I happen to have Irish roots, I felt drawn to this book by the image on the front cover. The detailed description of the scenery around Ireland is breathtaking in this short prequel.

This book is an interesting start to what may well be a series worth continuing on with. The characters focused on in this book are described in detail (At least the female protagonist and her mother are), and I find myself a little interested in discovering how things turn out for them in other books in this series.

This may be a series I will continue reading.

I didn't like it. Margaret is a selfish, spoiled asshole, and she doesn't deserve her mother. I don't understand anyone becoming a shrieking monster over seeing a healing gift bring a child back from the brink of death, and that scene compounded with her tedious teenaged angst and self-absorbed bullshit made me dislike her utterly.

And Sean is a total piece of crap, so I don't have pity for him.

Hopefully Margaret's baby treats her as coldly as she treats everyone else, and abandons her without a word. Karma.
