Pete the Cat uses his imagination to make a large box into different objects including by flattening it down! The ending is perfect: "When you want to dream of something new, thinking outside the box is the grooviest thing to do!" Very great!

We love all Pete the Cat books so much that we got a new kitten and named him Pete just the other day. This was an exciting find at the local winners I didn't even know there was a new Pete the Cat book out. My son loved this one because of all the groovy things Pete did. Keep up the good work James Dean and Kimberly Dean.

Pete, the cat, starts the day with a plan that doesn't go right because it is raining. Then Pete finds a box and gets his imagination going with this box. He has many adventures on this rainy day. This book tells kids that even if your plans fall through, it doesn't mean that your day is a waste, and you can still have a good day in the end. I liked this book, and I know that Pete the Cat is popular and so I think that kids would like the book as well. It is a repetitive book, so I think it would be fun to get the students to help read it out loud. It could also be an excellent book to read to motivate them to think about their own adventure to write. It would be great to use to help kids think of an adventure to write about, like Pete makes his own adventures in this book.

I really liked the theme of this but it bugs me when books sometimes use the rhyme scheme and then quit.

This colorful celebration of imaginative play captures a bit of the magic of the old Pete books. The illustrations are a welcome change-up too, adding more detail while maintaining the recognizable Pete style.

I am predisposed to love Pete the Cat. I hope to someday be as cool and groovy as he is. But, until then, I will read and learn from his adventures.

I read this one yesterday for an imagination-themed storytime and the kids enjoyed it. They knew right away that the end pages were corrugated cardboard. I was hoping that they would pick up on the repeated refrain of "The box was BIG and it was GROOVY. The box could be something new. Suddenly Pete's imagination grew and grew and grew..." I think that they were too engrossed in the story seeing what the box would become as opposed to paying attention to the words per se.

Lots of interesting vocabulary in here that we talked about - submarine. One little boy insisted that it was a boat and we talked about how a boat floats upon the water, but a submarine goes under the water. Also we talked about goggles and how they keep the water out.

Lots of shapes in the book and things used in creating (glue, paint, scissors, etc.) and as always, Pete is persistent and when things don't go his way, he tries something new. Great for STEAM and growth mindset.

Pete's good day plans were spoiled by rain, but when Pete finds a large box his imagination grows and grows and grows. Fun story and illustrations that will encourage children to use their imaginations that can take them anywhere.

Pete uses his imagination to make a cardboard box into a yellow submarine, car, stage and other fun things. It has some rhyme to it, making it entertaining to read to an older group that can sit long enough.

Another fun Pete the cat. I loved best the little hidden gems for adults, such as how Pete is a cat playing in a box, then later the box is flatted and he calls it a mat.
Otherwise another Pete the cat book to add to the collection.

Children and up Making the best of say a rainy or bad weather day

I felt that this story a terrific sense of values in teaching children the idea(s) that just because they were not able to follow through with a thought plan they had say at bedtime on the next morning, afternoon, etc.. They should rethink and create new and better and perhaps funnier events to embark on.
For any mother to help their children learn to find something newer and fun to do, recreate or even read an adventure story as to not let a bad or otherwise boring day in their home go undiscovered with doing something spectacular. These are my thoughts to why I rated this story as five stars. Keep up the super Childrens illustrated stories Deans'q

The first thing that grew my attention to this book was the bright cover page. Its neon colorful pages made me attract to this book. This book is a great read aloud because it has a good message to use your imagination and to think outside of the box! It also has lots of rhyming words throughout the reading and the different usage of font for the text. It has clear, bright, bold illustrations. Its fun for the children when they can remember a text to repeat while reading. The book repeats "The box was big and it was groovy. The box could be something new. Suddenly Pete's imagination grew and grew and grew..."

Groovy Pete uses his imagination to turn a rainy day into a day of fun.

Suddenly Pete's imagination grew and grew and grew...

Everything about this story is upbeat, including the illustrations.

In All Candor

I wouldn't call this book subtle, not in any way.
I wouldn't call the slang current; and regardless it strikes me as trying too hard.

But I'm not the audience for this book. So FIVE STARS it is.

Pete the Cat is a series that my students really enjoy! Most of the books are very fun but also have a teachable moment.

This book is a cute book about using your imagination. Pete has plans to go to the beach but the weather is not good. In the process, he uses his imagination to make the day fun. It is a lighthearted book that I feel is good for younger kids.

It is not my favorite Pete the Cat book, but it is a nice take on imagination.

The rhyme/repeated elements in the text don't exactly roll off the tongue like other Pete books. It's a fun topic of pretending a box is various things (a rocket, racecar, stage, etc), though it's definitely a topic that's been done before. The iconic Pete illustrations are colorful and cool, though!

Another winning Pete the Cat book! I particularly like this book because it encourages kids to use their imagination. In this case, Pete has an empty box that becomes a rocket ship, submarine, and race car. I am looking forward to adding this book to our library collection! Pete the Cat is one of our most popular series, so I know my students will enjoy this book!

When Pete's surfing plans are crashed by bad weather, he finds a box that helps his imagination soar and fills his day with all sorts of other fun.

Ok, I know that play with cardboard boxes is classic rainy day fun for kids. But the fact that Pete is a cat and he's obsessed with a cardboard box seems extra perfect. 😆 An ode to all the fun you can have with just your imagination and a box.

I read this to Julianna from a prime reading kindle book. She says she loves it because it was funny. She gives it 5 stars. I thought cute story; another good book of this series and good theme for children about making the best out of a situation and using their imagination for fun things to do.

This book is about Pete the cat on a rainy day making up fun things to do with his imagination. This book shows kids that you can always have fun on your own if you just create your own things to do. I like this book for the classroom because it encourages kids to think outside the box.

Another great Pete the Cat story with brightly colored illustrations and a good message. This story is perhaps one of the most creative and storyline based Pete the Cat books that have come out so far.
