The second book in the series is essentially the 2nd half of the first season of the anime, and I have to say, it was pretty spot on. A lot of times, anime adaptations of light novels move things around, remove things, or just change things entirely. But I have to say, having watched the season and reading the light novel, it's a pretty 1 to 1 spot on representation.
It's always good to see an internalization of the character's thoughts in a book format after watching the show so you have a better idea of what they're thinking and this volume has some good internal looks into the characters.
In this half Leon basically has to deal with pirates and help the other nobles save themselves from said pirates.
It's definitely more action-y than the first volume, but still good in its own right. Olivia is fine as well as Angie (essentially his 2 love interests) and the rest of the characters make it an interesting read.
In the story he proclaims himself a background character, when, in actuality, he plays himself much more off as an antagonist to the main character crew than a background character, which can be quite fun when he's a jerk to the spoiled MC's.
for a "Light" novel, this certainly was a chunky one, clocking it around 480 pages. Luckily it still read fast and I enjoyed the continued story. definitely going into volume 3 after this as i definitely want to see where this story goes now that we're past where the anime is at.
solid 4 out of 5.
