A fantastical story of a girl who is anything but ordinary. With her eighteenth birthday looming, Kat's life is about to irrevocably change. Get ready to be taken to a world where the myth becomes reality. A story interlaced with fantasy and mythology that will leave you completely consumed by the magic as the tale unfolds.
Kat was isolated most 0f her life and homeschooled. When a tragedy befalls her, her life is uprooted completely. The life she led was shrouded in secrets. She never felt quite normal and odd things seemed to happen around her, but she had no idea what was to come. Forced to move in with a grandmother she has never met and live in a small town owned by her family, Kat's life is about to forever change.
This is a story of awakening and self-discovery. Learning to embrace the myth as true rather than just a bedtime story. It will be a journey and it is only just beginning.
The author whets your palette with this well laid ground work. It's just a taste of what is to come and I am ready for more. I have so many questions. You will be wondering as the story develops what agenda each character has because I have a feeling that not everything is as it seems. A great start to a trilogy I cannot wait to devour.
I wasnโt prepared for what this book was about to deliver. I wasnโt ready for the ride that KK Allen just put me on. And now that Iโve finished, Iโm still sitting in awe as I try to figure out where to go from here.
KK Allen has delivered a world of magic and enchantment unparalleled by any other. Her words will envelope you and drive deep within as you become part of the world she created.
I cannot wait to see where she takes us as this trilogy continues to unfold in front of us.
Five stars for a book that took me on a ride and refused to release me, even after I finished and wished I had the next books loaded and ready!
What a unique, enchanting (ha!), thrilling story about a girl who thinks sheโs cursed and a small town filled with secrets! I was hooked from the prologue and literally devoured every page. A wonderful introduction to a brand new world, combining elements of different mythologies with just a tinge of magic. A wonderful balance between spirituality and natural powers.
Katrina has been struggling for a couple of years with outbursts of anger. When her mother dies unexpectedly, Kat is whisked away to Apollo Beach where she meets her grandmother, Rose. She begins to unravel the mystery of her ancestors while also being drawn to Alec, her perfect neighbor and Johnny, a dark, brooding young man who seems to despise her.
What follows is a tale about discovery, beliefs, grief, magic, and young love. I was pleasantly surprised to find the length of the book to be an average size novel. It was SO good I finished it in one afternoon.
While we didnโt get many answers and the whole romance part is still up in the air, I simply cannot wait for the rest of this series! I clicked hard with this book and Iโm desperate to find out more answers. I really, REALLY hope the love interest is a certain someone.
Cursed by K.K. Allen is LIVE! " A fated love story that will leave you breathless...and this is only the beginning". Grab it here-> www.smarturl.it/enchantedgods
โYou read this entire book in a day, Harloe? Really?โ AS IF THEREโS ANOTHER CHOICE!
Iโve been a diehard K.K. Allen fan for years. Her talent for writing riveting romances is truly special and always brings me back for more. But her ability to write fantasy? Holy cannoli, I cannot even cope with the epicness that I just finished reading. Cursed is a stunning journey to behold. From the character development to the world building, this author once again has left me reeling in wonder. I devoured this book in one day because I couldnโt stop. The plot builds so smoothly and effortlessly that there wasnโt a point where I felt I could look away for a second. I loved every word and you will too. Even if fantasy isnโt usually your jam, this book will turn you into a fan!
This book blew me away! I had no idea KK Allen was such a brilliant fantasy author! I mean, I knew she wrote great contemporary romance... (Don't miss that!) You will not be able to put this down. The world building is incredible. The steam is first rate. I can't wait for more! Grab this today, dive in, and get lost in this lush fantasy romance. FIVE STARS!
If you are a lover of fantasy and Greek mythology, Cursed is your book. This is the story of Kat who believes she has an ordinary life, until a tragedy occurs that changes her life forever. About to turn 18 years old, she is forced to move with her grandmother (who is a mystery and Kay doesnโt meet her) to a small coastal town known as Apollo Beach. There she will discover that her last name has a lot of weight in the town, which leaves her in everyone's sights. With an introverted and reserved personality, she has isolated herself from the world which makes her an easy target for teasing and bullying towards her person. Deep down, she has never felt normal, less now that certain strange events occur around her which begin to alter her nerves. Curiosity and persistence help her to obtain certain answers regarding her origins and relation to Greek mythology. After great revelations she must now digest the information and accept it, as well as control her temper to have a balance of that which makes her special and different from everyone else. Fortunately, she has Alec, a very attractive boy with an easy smile who gives her a sincere friendship and protects her. But the secrets and intrigues continue and Kat still has a lot to learn. This book is light, entertaining and gives us an introduction to a world that combines magic with Greek mythology, as well as the potential that Kat has.
โ simple story line โ sex or sexual tension = none (only a couple kisses) โ mild language
It's been many years since I was in that demographic group, so this wasn't the best fit for me. Still, the writing was decent and the story was somewhat interesting. It could have used more physical descriptions though. I did manage to finish it (with some light skimming at times). It was such an easy read, it wasn't hard to do.
Kat's mom dies so she goes to live with her grandmother. There she learns that she has magical powers. Later on, we're told that she's being trained to control and use her powers, but we see very little of it. Kat also learns about her family's history. Throw in some mean girls and a couple of hot guys, and that's the majority of the book. It's the typical "good versus evil" plot. โ The Question - "Who are the evil ones?" ๐ค
A โค triangle seems to be brewing. Will Kat end up with Johnny or Alec? The mysterious bad boy OR the preppy, seemingly good guy? I think we all know how that usually goes, since it's a common trope.
๐ Book 2 was a dnf. It still reads as YA. "Save the environment" message including anti-pollution, was a big part of the story. No thanks, I'll pass on being taught.
Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sabrina The Teenage Witch meets Charmed, meets a lot of other fantasy shows that I don't have the strength to remember right now.
But you know when those tv shows are felt in these novels, then you know I will love those novels. And that's what KK Allen made me feel: on cloud 9 after reading this novel.
Seems, lately I've been having a lot of good luck with my ARC reading, so so so glad KK Allen's Cursed made the list.
I mean it should have: with the writing had me hooked and relate well to Katrina, and the woes of being 18 and sometimes feeling out of place (in her case, powers), and just wanting to build herself up in the world.
But then her powers awaken, villains are out for her and her family's blood, and a devastatingly charming boy, also wants to help her, and steal her heart.
Oh what must an 18 year old do in such a topsy-turvy situation?
But I know I loved being with Katrina around, seeing through her eyes how she escapes terrible situations, and tries to find her place in a world which is already planning ways on shunning her out.
But she's not shunned from my heart though.
But yess, I absolutely loved the self-discovering journey, powers (yay to magic), cute and devastatingly handsome boys, family history of magic (yay), and the title itself overall, and how she will escape the dreaded curse itself.
So I am excited as hell for the second book to come, even though I specifically hate cliffhangers, but this one is worth it.
A first in a new series that will take you on a ride. It's filled with suspense, mythology, and so much more. It'll surprise you in unexpected ways. It's an amazing must read book.
I thought there would be more spice but this is firmly in the YA Mythological realm. It was dragged out and didn't go anywhere. The end note promises more spice as the series continues....I hope that happens. I'm not a fan of the possible love triangle either, the jury is still out.
I never leave reviews. I never had a book grip me from the beginning to end. Now I want the second book as soon as possible so I pre-ordered it. I liked the suspense. I have always been interested in greek mythology. I can't wait to devour the other two books in the series.
My first DNF of 2021. Shelving for now because there are just too many good books in my TBR and unfortunately I couldnโt get into this one. The dialogue wasnโt realistic and the writing wasnโt for me. Maybe I can revisit this in the future.
Contemporary fantasy romance is the perfect way to describe this book. It sets up the world KK Allen created so well. Iโm really interested in the rest of the series. Iโm not sure who is the hero yet in this book but Iโm intrigued!
Cursed is the first book in KK Allenโs new series the Enchanted Gods Trilogy. I am a fan of this author as she writes beautiful stories and creates wonderful characters that capture your heart. I am not a fantasy reader but I was totally engrossed and I couldnโt put this book down. KK drew me into the magical world of the Enchanted and I lost myself to this stunning story. Katrina Summerโs journey is just beginning and she no idea what she is in for and neither will you. Full of magic and secrets, greek mythology and family history, romance and friendship. An enchanting and amazing start to the trilogy as we meet Katrina and the Summer Family.
โWhat makes us most powerful can also kill us.โ
People of Silver Lake see Katrina as a loner, loser and weirdo. She has suffered outbursts and anger issues over the last couple of years and bad things happen when she around. Kat is a power all unto herself in more ways than one. Her mum tries to explain to her that she is stronger than she thinks so needs to get help to control her anger and live a normal life. Kat is worried nothing will help her because she feels she is cursed.
A month before graduation she is involved in another incident and expelled from school. Then just before her eighteenth birthday her life is changed forever and she ends up across the country living with her grandmother. She has never met Rose and knows very little about her. The town of Apollo Beach is a little weird and some people donโt seem pleased she is there.
โYouโve never been strange or cursed. Youโve simply been becoming what you were always meant to be."
Kat is confused over her familyโs history, fed up with all the secrecy surrounding her grandmother and the town. The love interests come in the form of the sweet Alec and the grumpy mysterious Johnny. I canโt wait to see how they are going to fit into her new life.
โNot all things are what they appear to be, Alec. You may see a tough chick, but maybe thatโs because I donโt want you to see the truth.โ
The author introduces us to all the characters that are going to play their part in this fascinating trilogy and leaves it up to the reader to decide who they think is good and who is bad. She also gives us lots of twists and turns, leaving us wondering if good can overcome evil. If like me you donโt usually read a YA fantasy book then I fully recommend you take a chance on this one and immerse yourself in this stunning magical adventure. I canโt wait for Fated to see what happens next.

โญ๏ธ 4 "Solstice" Stars โญ๏ธ I hadnโt ventured in the fantasy genre in a very long while, but Iโll read anything K.K. Allen writes, so I entered the Enchanted Gods Series with lots of excitement. Cursed was an interesting novel and only the beginning of a very bewitching world! With a mythology inspired setting, this story was fascinating!
When Katerina is sent to live with her estranged grandmother, she slowly learns long kept secrets about her family. Her ancestors entrusted remarkable powers to their lineage and events that always made her an outsider in her previous life, now all makes sense. Situations where she could strangely control the elements surrounding her are now explainable. She cautiously discovers a fantastic world in Apollo Beach. She feels the animosity from certain people in this town, but she rapidly forges a friendship with Alec. The guy is truly sweet and charming. I found those two really cute even if the romance was very low for me, avid romance reader. I still felt their beautiful connection that only promises a special bond for the subsequent novels.
The progression of the story was a little too slow in my opinion, but I couldnโt stop reading only wanting to understand Katโs mythical heritage. Now that we learned more about whatโs expected from the girl, Iโm really eager for the future books in this series!
** ARC received in exchange for an honest review **
Fantasy at it's best!!! What an amazing start to the series I love this book from beginning to end, I couldn't stop reading and now I need book two asap because the ending left me wanting so much more.
This book is full of mystery, secrets, greek myths and self discovery.
When Katrina Summers comes to Apollo Beach to live with his grandmother, she finds herself lost and confused. Her life is just a turmoil of emotions after her mother died in a tragic accident. Little by little she realises that there are many secrets regarding her and where her family really comes from.
When she mets Alec, things get a little better and little by little she gets to feel like she belongs.
But also I have so many questions.... mainly about Johnny. I know there is a story there. Is there a possible love triangle there? I have suspicions and I really really need book 2 now.
I've always loved K.K. Allenโs contemporary romance stories. She's wonderful at bringing her characters to life and pulling you into the story. Her foray into fantasy with the Enchanted Gods trilogy is no different. This story is captivating, pulling you in from the first page. You can't help but like Katrina, and root for her as she faces situations out of her control in a brand new world, combining elements of mythologies and fantasy interspersed with magic.
As the story unfolds Katrina learns the truth about this strange world, its people and most of all herself. With each revelation the danger to her increases. This is a story full of twists and turns, and what I can already tell is the beginning of an epic series. The story has several layers to it and a cast of interesting and charismatic characters. Without spoiling anything, I will say that I am very excited with where the story seems to be heading and I cannot wait for the next book to come out.
The world that K.K. Allen has crafted is intricately crafted and every detail is imperative to the plot. I jumped into this read completely blind and I was not expecting to be swept in so completely. I feel like Iโve been on a huge adventure, and after that shocking ending, I cannot wait to see where she takes us to in the next book. I absolutely cannot wait to see where this story goes. I am already eager for more and can not wait to dive back into this world.
This needs more stars!!! KK Allen was nervous to bring this series to fruition because itโs not something we are used to seeing from her, but what she doesnโt see is that her talent will make a fan out of the reader that is most resistant to change!
This is the first book in a trilogy and it does exactly what itโs supposed to do, it introduces us to it characters, it gives us a little history and then it grabs hold and wonโt let you go. It is going to leave you with a cliffhanger, but it was done in a way that wonโt leave you frustrated, but excited to see whatโs to come!
This is a story about a girl who always felt out of place until she has to go live with her grandmother and everything seems to finally make sense.
This book takes me back, it has a Nora Roberts addictive vibe and Iโm so here for it! This is a strong story with smart writing and visually beautiful scenes.
Bottom line: Take a chance on this one, even if you think itโs not your thing, the way KK Allen has written this there is no way you wonโt be affected by it!
I have read a few contemporary books by this author but when I found out that she was going to be coming out with a book that was fantasy/mythology I knew that I had to read it. This was completely different from her other books. Katโs life had been completely flipped upside down and all she wants to do is find the answers as to why. All the twists and turns that happened you canโt tell whatโs going to happen it leaves you completely engaged in the story wanting to know how it finishes.
I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for book two and learn more about all these characters. I really enjoyed the Greek elements to this book it was different than others books I've read the last couple years.
I know this book doesn't like the terms "witch" but man did it give me Sabrina the Teenage Witch vibes with a side of modern greek mythology. This took me like 4 hours to read? BLEW through it. The story was so refreshing to hear and a new take on greek mythology and I can't wait for the next book.
Angsty teen Katrina, a grandmother she's never met Rose(hello princess diaries (jk)), the perfect assistant Charlotte, a cute love interest next door Alec, and dark and broody Johnny? (There better be a love triangle here) you get wrapped up into this coming of age story about a girl coming into her own after a tragic event. This leads Katrina to move in with her grandmother Rose who seems to own an entire little beach community, yet Katrina knew nothing about her or really her father.
