A Disappointing Book with Silly, Highly Stereotyped Characters...
What is happening to Milly Taiden? As I stated in my last review of her work, if you had asked me seven months ago about anything written by this author I would have said to you that she is a consistent powerhouse. I would have enthusiastically declared her to be the queen of all things paranormally romantic and sexy. I would have further stated that her stories almost never disappoint, are wildly free and unapologetically alpha filled, full of beautiful story landscapes, with her Paranormal Dating Agency (PDA) books at the top of this wonder! However, recently her books have been devoid of the emotionally intelligent, emotionally rich, witty and quirky, action packed adventures I have come to love and expect from her. And sadly this one “Throw in the Growl”, the latest addition to her PDA universe is no exception to this new and disappointing rule.
After reading her earlier sci-fi themed PDA installments of yummy Galaxa Warriors and grumbly, angst filled alpha hotties from planet Aurora, I was excited for a new interplanetary adventure. Instead what I found was, in all honesty, downright horrible. As here within the story of King Rath of the Salusain Kingdom upon the planet Corona Haize, and Anna, a sarcastic, quip filled stand-up comedian looking for a way to revive her career after a misstep on stage turns her into a comedic pariah. A situation her manager Clint hopes to rectify via a unique proposal. A plan that has her utilizing the services of Gerri Wilder, flying off to a new far away world, and dating an alien (and perhaps falling in love) all for the sake of material for her show. Is a tale full of tired and overused stereotypes reminiscent of outdated Gomer Pyle gags and not a Taiden book.
So disappointing was this installment to me that I am not even going to include the normal story synopsis I typically include within my reviews. As the characters contained are so confusing and cringe worthy I have to wonder if this installment was written by a ghost writer. A thought I have had for the last few books published under this author’s name.
Worse yet, this was another installment filled to bursting with typos and sentence structure issues. And what is with the capital A’s in the middle of words throughout? There were so many of them I was left thinking they were intentional, and if so, if this was perhaps some odd way of incorporating, Anna-isms, throughout to drive home the fact she is a comedian. Well is so, it missed big time and was more distracting than endearing. And on the reverse side of this typeset coin, if these actually were mistakes, well then holy hell why was it published in such a state?!?
After this installment I am not sure what to think? I normally love books by this author, but this book bordered on offensive with its typecast “loveable dunce” and was just plain silly. A far cry from the normally sexy and more sophisticated tales I have enjoyed from her in the past. In the end this one is a hard, hard pass for me and astonishingly almost ended up in my DNF file, something that has never before happened with one of Taiden’s books.
Always and forever love me some Gerri! her know, her spunk she's just an amazing character. That being said Throw in the Growl is another fine fine book she's penned.
Kings are to be obeyed right? Well yes, all up until they're not or at least the sparky newcomer Anna has no problem in ignoring the King's edict. Our down-and-out singer throws them all in a loop, but mainly Rath her strange words and stunning looks have the King all but in a melodic haze.
Anna's out of a job and just desperate enough to sing anywhere even Salusia, with a bossy King, that thinks he can tell her the whats and whens. The fact that he is a hot AF shifter, that has both their chemistry popping off the charts nope none of that matters to her at all.
I had a lot of fun with this story, interaction, and play-by-play. Rath trying to figure what Anna is saying most of the time on top of the need to real her in for not doing as she's told which confused him also he is King after all.
Great story, great characters a lot of funny, and some heat. Grab it and immerse yourself in another PDA book and Gerries magic. Enjoy.
Laugh away the pain Gerri Wilder is at it again with this book. She pairs the queen of comedy, okay her crown may be a little crooked at the moment, and the King of his own land together for a match made by fate. But first these two have to fight the critics and their own perceptions in order to grow individually and as a couple to reach their HEA. The author brought on the laughs, the danger, and the romance in this book. All you need to do is sit back and enjoy the wild ride.
Rath and Anna are thrown together by the force that is Gerri Wilder. But for very different purposes.
Anna is a comedienne. Anna needs to revamp her career. Anna sees this as an opportunity to gather new material.
Rath is an impetuous and impulsive ruler. Rath acts before he thinks. Rath wants to be taken serious as a leader.
When the two meet Sparks fly but not romantically, more like verbally. There's definitely a culture clash, somewhat of a language barrier, but luckily Rath has his own translator.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am leaving a voluntary review.
This story was hot and spicy just like I like my food. From the beginning of the book I was told in. I put the book down long enough the cook dinner. I found out that I could have one of my apps continue to read the book and it was phenomenal. This is the book that I read within 2 days. I can't wait to find out what's going to happen in the next book I simply love the series and couldn't see myself not reading more and more. The ending was just what I expected great!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wonderful! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Throw in the Growl is the 31st book in the Paranormal Dating Agency series by Milly Taiden. This is King Rath and Anna's story. Gerri Wilder always made the perfect matches. let's see if she did it again with King Rath and Anna. Anna is an earth comedian. Rath is a new king of another planet. I laughed so much with Rath’s misunderstanding of Earth’s phrases. These two are hilarious! I would highly recommend this book to everyone. Milly keeps you hooked from the beginning to the end. Can't wait to read more from Milly. Keep up the amazing work!
When initially started to read Anna & Rath's story thought uh oh this was going to be Gerri's first failure in making the perfect match. Anna is a stand-up comedian simply looking for an outer worldly experience to provide material to help her rebuild her career. While Rath is a grumpy King with numerous problems who is seeking his mate. Relationships can be difficult and complicated, being from two different worlds be prepared for these two with laugh out loud moments with communication issues from two strong characters, you will not be disappointed in Milly Taiden's latest book of the series.
You can never go wrong when Gerri Wilder and the PDA get involved!! Anna and Rath cracked me up from the get go. Anna seems to think a whole new world means her career will make a comeback. She isn't really looking for love, just somewhere to start over and be successful. Her interactions with Rath just made me laugh a lot! He thinks because he is King, that means everyone is supposed to listen. Which, I guess, is how it normally goes if your a royal. But not when it comes to a sassy, snarky woman who is in charge of her own fate (or so she thinks!!). Throw in some great side characters and it was a hit for me! I always love the installments in this series and can't wait to read more!
As usual every one of these PDA books will bring you laughter and maybe a small tear or two depending on how much you enjoy the story.
Always a little bit of drama and excitement, can't let us down that is for sure. Plant me in the wrong place, let bad guys try to send me away, all in a days work what can we say.
You will want to sit and read it from start to finish. This wonderful author and Gerri never disappoint.
A great addition to this simply wonderful collection of stories.
I loved the book and the way in which the characters and the plot had so cleverly been written, The interaction between Rath and Anna as they are undergoing some rather testy times is at times quite funny and then at others it can be difficult not to take side but you have to remember this is s new relationship and even human on human takes work, so throw a shifter in to the mix and that’s a whole new ball game.
I am sure that like me once you start reading this book you will not be able to put down until you reach the final page and discover the outcome.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Anna the comedian and Rath the different kinds of shifters all in one body? What could go wrong! This is a fun trip through the crazy world of Vegas, shifter world and the best matchmaker ever. Gerri needs her own movie series she is so wonderful a character. Every time a Gerri Wilder book is published I drop whatever I’m reading and rush to get a glimpse of Gerri again. This time we get a fun comedian down on her luck willing to head to shifter world for new material, under the guise of wanting a shifter mate. What could go wrong there? Rath has a wonderful nanny or butler or sidekick that makes the story even more fun. Take a romp with Gerri, Anna and Rath to another world for a wonderful time in a book you can feel transported to another world in! No spoilers in this review, enjoy!
Nice to visit a new planet of shifter aliens. I did like this, I really did, I just didn’t love it. Some of what was meant to be humorous, just wasn’t for me. Loved the ethos about caring for ones people that Rath spouted. It really showcased how terrible the human race is in looking after our planet. Though I found this entertaining due to how wacky it was, I just didn’t find as much humour as other readers stated in their reviews. At times I found Rath just that bit obnoxious and stupid in his behaviour and actions Anna a bit patronising and selfish in her thinking. More in the beginning as they both were entertaining and quite enjoyable characters in the second half. Don’t think this book was edited well. Not sure what was going on with the capital A’s happening throughout the book and a strange word at the beginning of chapter 21 just didn’t make sense. Offered to me for an honest review but I chose to read it through Kindle Unlimited.
Always and forever love me some Gerri I will never get tired saying that. Her spunky personality her sassy is just everything she's just an amazing character. Now back to Rath and Anna's story. Get ready for a hilarious read. With some action, intrigue, and of course steamy romance to keep you hooked from beginning to end making it a helluva read. Can't wait for the next book in this series. I received a free copy via Booksprout and as always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
Book 31 of PDA series by Milly Taiden Anna is a stand up comedian in Las Vegas and her career isn’t going well. In comes the amazing Gerri Wilder that matches her with a alien king. Rath is a king with huge problems with a prince that wants to rule. To secure everything he looks for his mate. This book is hilarious especially with sarcasm between the two main characters. Absolutely love Geri Wilder and Milly Taiden is the queen of paranormal romance writers.
She didn't want to get married. She just wanted her career back on track. As a comedian, she'd done well until one little incident and inappropriate comment. Her agent knows just what to do since she's got nothing going on earth. Work on getting an out-of-this-world (literally) audience. Enter Gerri Wilder. She knows some unique shifters on a new-to-earth planet who could use some help in the mating department.
AS king, Rath has to eventually find a mate through a council--one of many required traditions. When he goes for (literally) Anna there are laughs galore with the language differences. His pet is a surprise to Anna for sure. Rath tries really hard but it isn't easy. Will he grow on Anna? (NOT literally)
Not everyone is overjoyed at his choice for Queen. Oh, yeah, Rath is the king. When they take a wrong turn on an outing the enemy is there. He's a great fighter but will he be outnumbered by too many enemies?
You can be sure there is never a dull moment, laughs, steam, great characters, surprises and so much more. Do not miss this beginning of this new planet for Gerri to work her magic.
Throw in the Growl is an adorably funny and sexy addition to the PDA world. Rath is sweet and grumpy and delightfully clueless to pop culture and earth jargon. Anna as a standup comedian is practically an expert. Watching these two try to communicate is such fun. But love will have it’s way and doesn’t necessarily require speaking to get the message across. I love the new world that Gerri and Rath have introduced us to.
This was a pretty good read. King Rath and Anna are a perfect fit! Rath’s misunderstanding of Earth’s phrases is so funny at times! This story had pretty good characters with some action, steamy moments, and definitely humor! I loved Slaapi and his “blorch”!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Anna and Rath are two peas in a pod but they don’t know it yet. Rath’s childlike nature is seemingly impossible to deal with, but Anna finds a way in her witty comedian style. As they come to know each other through trials and tribulations, Rath actually grows into his kingly nature and matures while Anna learns not everything can be buried under laughter. In the culmination of their obstacles, they discover their love for each other in the defense of one another.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a different PDA story. Anna & Rath's story was full of funny and amusing moments.... from their interactions with each other to the situations they found themselves in. You had to love them. Also filled with lots of action. Enjoyable read.
Anna Sullivan just wanted to make people laugh. Unfortunately she was a person non grata after an international incident. So, with Gerri Wilder's help she leaves the planet. What?! And meets King Rath- what! By helping each other will they be helping themselves, to a royal romance? Another fun and sexy PDA book by Milly Taiden.
This story was so perfect and I loved that not only did King Rather get his queen he was also able to stop an uprising with the spoiled Prince. Rather and Anna's story was refreshing and lifelike. I'm glad that she was introduced and I can't wait to see if her mom gets a story too.
This is Rath and Anna’s story . Get ready to laugh and enjoy the different turns this one takes !! With her career on the rocks and with a promise of love ( this Anna doesn't care about ) along with a new place for her to get her career back on track Anna is raring to go . King Rath is used to people doing as he says without any issue . Well look out King you just met one sassy lady that will say things that you have no idea what it means but knows that she is just flat out not doing as told ! I laughed out loud so many times reading this one !! Well written and recommended to all !!
I was given this ARC and enjoyed it so much that I am voluntarily leaving a review.
King Rath and Anna's love story is so entertaining. The storyline is imaginative and fun, yet dramatic too. The humor is wonderful. The characters are lots of fun. And those sex scenes. Hot! Hot! Hot! This is Milly's 31st PDA story, but it's still very fresh and engaging. Fantastic job Milly! I hope everyone reads this book.
Enjoyed this story so much Meet Anna Sullivan a stand up comedian. Her is job is on the rocks. Meet King Rath of the planet Corona Haize. Gerri Wilder the match maker of God's is on her quest of 100% . When Anna decribes she feels like she walk into a John Norman Novel! You had me laughing so hard tears in eyes and I started to hiccup laughter.
Love that title. Wow this is one fast paced love story. Miss Milly's thought process is over the top and we all greatly benefit and appreciate it. Blorch, is my favorite in this one but Rath with his shifter magic is a close second. Anna is a hoot also. In this Gerri Wilder book we learn how not to be so impetuous as Rath is and Anna has to open her mind to possibilities. I volunteered to read and review an advance reader copy .
This is the best PDA book so far! King Rath is used to people doing what he says but Anna doesn't. One bad joke and one dead world leader later, and Anna's playing shady Vegas bars. When these two meet had me laughing. Anna and Rath have to fight unexpected enemies while figuring out if they have a future together. Hands down a hilarious read.
Throw in the Growl (Paranormal Dating Agency Book 31) by Milly Taiden. Gerry Wilder works her magic and sets Anna up with Rath. Anna is from earth and Rath is from the planet of Salusia where he is King. Of course true never runs smooth. Another brilliant book from Mill y Taiden.
This is an OK shifter romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It features the typical shifter instalove, but I would have liked a little more backstory on both Anna and Rath. I do always like Gerri Wilder and her matchmaking methods, though.
Anna and Rath were likable enough, but I found it hard to believe that a king would be so impulsive and do so many dumb things. He often did things without really thinking them through, and ended up causing problems. I did like Anna's quick wit, and thought it was funny how Rath often misunderstood her comments.
I also didn't really believe that Anna was in love with Rath. She was definitely in lust, but she wasn't a shifter, so I didn't believe she would fall in love with him so quickly. It also really bothered me that she first went to Rath's home with no intention of actually considering a relationship with him -- but instead planned to use her trip as fodder for her stand-up comedian act. That was just wrong.
One complaint is that most of Milly's stories are a bit too explicit for me. I like hot sex in romances, but I would prefer it to be a little less descriptive and dirty. I am not a prude, but the really explicit stuff is just not romantic to me. But I will continue to read Milly's writing, as it is entertaining and fun.
There was one other issue, and it is minor, but it is a pet peeve of mine. The pictures on the book cover should look like the characters are described in the book. Anna is described as having blonde hair -- but the woman on the cover has dark hair. This may not be the author's fault, but it still bugs me.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
So disappointed right now. I love Milly Taiden PDA books. However, I could barely get through this book. He was a bumbling idiot and she was just a bitch. I'm guessing she was supposed to be like Kathy Griffin, but it failed miserably.
Basically, she told a joke that didn't go over well after a political leader died the next day. Her career was in ruins, so she was playing the low end clubs, etc to make money. Her agent hooks her up with Gerry Wilder and says if she goes and meets the guy, when she comes back she'll get to host her own late night talk show.
Rath is just an idiot. The only reason he's king is because he inherited it. I saw nothing that showed him to be an actual good king. He rushes headlong into things without thinking, does whatever he wants and has to have a ball of slime with 3 eyes basically be his sidekick to tell him he's being an idiot. He's the stereotype for every big brainless but buff as hell meatbag there is. His whole schtick is that he can take on anyone and everyone and just beat them up.
Other than his looks, I'm not sure what she ever saw in him. He's seen as the bumbling but well natured big guy who just smashes stuff. She has no real personality of her own. Her whole conflict is that her mom is an accountant who divorced her dad after he decided to hit the road and become a circus clown. That's why she got into stand up comedy, to be like her dead dad. She does make up with her mom in the end, but even then it's not very believable. Gerri had talked to her mom and basically made her see the light about her daughter. It was stupid, like the rest of the book.
Even the blurb didn't make it sound great. I read it anyway, as it's a PDA book and I usually enjoy those. This was just a trainwreck. There was a whole subplot in here, but it was just as dumb as the rest and really didn't add anything to the story. You could have removed it and the book would have been just as bad.
