To fulfill her bargain with the Storm King, Kira is finally going to go train at the Spire to learn more about her Shadow magic. There’s just one problem: her Shadow magic doesn’t work anymore.
Something inside her soul is broken, and she must find a way to fix it, or risk losing her Light magic, too. As she struggles to cope with her inner turmoil, another battle is brewing outside the walls of the Spire when raiders descend on the realm.
And Kira’s pretty sure they’re there because of her.
With her magic slipping and her newly discovered family’s legacy at stake, Kira searches for answers. And a discovery about the past might hold some answers about the elusive Lord of Between… and an unpleasant connection with her broken soul.

Thank you Liz for sending me an ARC of THE GRAY MAGE to read and review.
I absolutely loved reading books 1 + 2 of the Realm of Camellia series and couldn't wait to continue reading Kira's story in book 3. Without giving any spoilers, this book brought me deeper into the Camellia world, exploring the many levels of shadow magic.
There's a a third form of magic explored that brought an element of mystery to this story while Kira continues training with her inherent magic. This world Liz has created is full of magic and adventure. I also loved how things at the end of book 3 tie in to events and people from books 1 + 2.
Looking forward to the last installment (sad but happy) in this series.
Wow, this story just keeps getting better and better! This was probably my favorite book so far! I really loved seeing Kira's inner turmoil. She feels like such a real person dealing with such unreal situations. All of the characters are so great and well developed. This book was full of action and such a wonderful read!
What an excellent third installment for Kira, Jun, and their friends. They find them self at the Spire, learning their shadow magic. While Kira's magic feels oily, it isn't broken, however, it leads to a lot of feelings for this young woman. We have more reflection as she discovers parts of her father while staying in his old quarters, and she gets to know some of him through things left behind. But nothing is that easy for the Starless Girl. There is an enemy out there wanting to capture her and Jun, she can feel it. I loved the depth we saw in Kira in this story and how much she really struggled being from a world but not of that world. It was heartbreaking at times, and she expressed feelings I think everyone has. Her friends, as faithful as ever, were such a guiding light in this book. I look forward to the conclusion!
"What’s gone is lost. And when all’s lost, Even the fiercest soul can find peace. Even the fiercest must overcome."
This book is my favourite of this series so far! It really got me hooked and considering this end, I can’t wait for the next one! The storyline about Kira losing her shadow magic is really well done and I really enjoyed the new characters introduced (even if I would have liked to see a bit more of Spectra and Nesma). And I’m in love with this universe and its system of magic! Thanks to the author for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Well, to start with I expected this series to be a trilogy. So as I’m getting to the end I’m like, how is this gonna end there’s only ten pages left! Personally, I would’ve made this a trilogy, but I’m not the author and I’m not exactly complaining either.
The beginning of the book was a little slow and repetitive. It was just constant Kira in a bad mood and nothing’s changed in regard to her damaged soul. I was starting to get frustrated when things picked up big time. Like it went from 3 to 8 in pacing in like two pages.
The big reveal of this book was not what I was expecting. So that made me happy because I usually see these things coming.
With the ending, we’re given no clues as to what exactly the next book will entail aside from “defeat the bad guy once and for all and save all the friends”. I’m certainly interested to see what comes next.
