Mama and Daddy are celebrating their anniversary and renewing their vows. Our town is celebrating an anniversary too—three hundred years after the founders buried a time capsule, we’re digging it up.
But along with the items of historical interest, we get a surprise. The time capsule contains a bloody knife...and a ghost!
Then there’s the skeleton my cat Tabby digs up, hidden under the capsule. Lordy, what's next?
When an unknown entity takes the knife and uses it on one of our own, finding the culprit will tax my ghost-whispering skills, as well as put me at odds with multiple suspects. Can I find the answers to the cold case and bring the guilty party to justice? Or will the knife end up buried in my back, and the ghosts of yesterday haunt me forever?
This genre was not previously one of my selected ones but on reading the first one in this series, I was hooked and entranced..magickly ..as Nyx would say!
The entire concept is fascinating and the storytelling is first class throughout the series, but this one in particular really got me. It's fast paced, clever in both magickal, mysterious and thrilling ways.
With each book in the series, we knew there was going to be follow up stories, but this one actually ends on an amazing cliff hanger that has my excitement bouncing for the next one and my interest highly peaked to know just how Ava is going to handle it. ...WOW ! ...just WOW !
Nyx Halliwell's writing is second to none, her phrasing and dialogue is quite simply , first class. It's succinct and detailed without becoming bogged down in rhetoric and repetition. Each character is well fleshed out and relatable, even lovable as if they were old friends. So enjoyable and entertaining you simply want to read more and more of her work. I can't think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon on my patio than with one of Nyx's stories. Quite simply, this is a humdinger!
Avalon (Ava) has a lot going on. Her parents are celebrating their anniversary and plan to renew their vows with Ava officiating. In addition, the town also has an anniversary as it's been 300 years since a time capsule was buried. When they open it, along with the historical items they find a bloody knife. A ghost also appears and a skeleton is found under the capsule. As if that's not enough, someone takes the knife and uses it to try to kill a woman. Can Ava put the clues together?
I'm really enjoying this series and this book's no exception. This well-written book is a lighthearted, paranormal, cozy mystery that immediately drew me in. I love the various characters and the way they grow from book to book. This is an enchanting story and the mystery will keep you on your toes. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which I believe is best read in order.
Vow & Vengeance, the 4th book in Nyx Halliwell's light paranormal series Confessions of a Closet Medium, is a delightful addition to an already winning series. I am so excited to see that the series will continue. Ava has a busy enough schedule with her parents' vow renewal and an employee's suddenly advanced wedding without the complication of trouble with new ghosts and old. Reverend Stout was kind enough to help with her most recent ghost problem, only to be best of a ghost of his own. The musically inclined ghost doesn't seem that serious of a problem until it possesses the kind man. Bones and blood at the town time capsule seem ominous enough that Ava feels compelled to devote some of her limited time to discovering the history and its implication to her family. I adore Ava's friends and they help make Vow and Vengeance the best of this fun series.
Vows and Vengeance (Confessions of a Closet Medium #4) - 5 Stars!!
A brilliant must read with many ghosts, small town feel, and a lovable main character Vows and Vengeance reminds me of Ghost Whisperer meet cozy mystery but in a book!!!
Something dangerous is upon the town of Thornhollow when a three hundred year old time capsule is pulled from the grave with a bloody knife inside and a body hidden close by more than a murder ensues and when Ava’s ancestors are pulled to the scene things start to go haywire multiple suspects are at stake will Ava’s ghost whispering skills solve the case?
I’m super spirited to find this to be a series because it is entirely bingeable in one sitting and I’ll be dying to start the next chapter with Avalon and all her friends I can’t wait to spend more time with them!
If you like a good mystery, romance, suspense, cats, and ghosts, then this is the book for you. This book was filled with twists and turns and kept me anxiously waiting for the next chapter to see what was going to happen next. I love the way Nyx Halliwell creates a story filled with quirky characters and fun adventures in the middle of an unusual murder mystery. I loved this book and highly recommend it. If you are looking for a great escape from reality, this is a great series for you. Enjoy and happy reading.
Loved it. The main character was so busy being pulled in to many directions that I felt exhausted for her. I actually guessed the murder, or at least the mastermind behind it. But not 'why'. Great concept and I'm not going to give it away. There was so much going on, that I almost felt everything didn't get the attention and time it should have. At the same time, it seemed that everything that needed to be addressed was addressed. I was only bummed out because book 5 hasn't been released yet.
A really delightfully entertaining ghostly mystery!
I truly enjoyed this supernatural mystery! The story line was fascinating and as usual the characters were a lot of fun. Really enjoyed the door knocker and the gargoyles. They made me laugh! Glad to see more of Tabby, her cat/grandmother. I hope Samuel will be a permanent character in the future story lines. Love this series!
This was a great book. I really love the characters and seeing the new characters come in. I also loved the plot of this one, the mystery was great and I loved the additional problems the ghosts added. I'm looking forward to the next book.
3.5 stars, but enjoyable enough to round up. As always, misused words detract from the storytelling, but it’s easy and entertaining enough brain candy.
