Over 1600+ pages of magic and mayhem, action and humor fill this snarky urban fantasy boxed set.
A dangerous job, a pair of pint-sized familiars on her shoulders, a crush on a constellation...
No wonder Theo Apollonia’s relationship status just says, “It’s complicated.”
Snarky thief Theo Apollonia has life figured out: steal priceless artifacts—pay off her debts.
But when she and her familiars, Simon and Garfunkel, botch their most dangerous heist yet, they find themselves on the wrong side of a powerful demigod …
Turns out all the legends are true. Banished demigods really do hold grudges.
Now Theo must fight in an underground arena where mythical creatures battle to the death.
First rule of mythical Fight Club: everyone dies.
More is at stake than just the her life and the lives of her friends. If this arena is not destroyed, the world will wake to a dark new day… and an even darker new god.
Theo has a decision to make: Run to protect those she loves, or fight with the slim hope she can stop the apocalypse.
It was amazing! I loved the characters and development. The stories kept me drawn in the entire time. I am going two try to find more books in this world.
I usually write reviews for each of the books I read, in any series I decide to give a go.
For the first time, in a VERY long time, I couldn't bear to stop reading, in order to do that!
I've really enjoyed other books that Ramy Vance has written - though Matthew Herman is a new Author, to me - and so I looked forward to starting this series.
I was planning on writing a review for each book that I finished but, as I said, I honestly couldn't bear to stop reading long enough, to write a review, this time!
What that means, with my dreadful memory, is that I won't be writing an in-depth review for this complete series, either!
Sorry about that, peeps!
BUT, what I CAN tell you, is that you'd be completely crazy, if you DON'T read this series!
As I said, I usually write a review for each book of a series, but this story caught me so completely in its power, that I couldn't bear to stop reading, until I reached the last page - & that included all the short character vignettes, at the end of the whole omnibus!
In fact, I've had so little sleep, while reading this series, that my head is feeling woozy from its lack - and I'm writing this, presently, at almost 3 a.m., GMT! Lol
So, I'll be starting anew later on, today, once I've slept a little, & I'll be starting where I should have, in this GoneGod Universe, with the very first Series, as far as I'm aware of, anyway, called: 'Paradise Lost', written, of course, by Ramy Vance! Lol
I will TRY to write a review after finishing each book in this series, though I won't make promises I can't keep! Lol
So, I'll catch on you on the flip side, to let you know if the very beginning of this set of GoneGod series, is as good as the two later ones, that I've already read!
Magic and mayhem fill this slow-burning urban fantasy adventure.
BOOK 1: Axes and Angels BOOK 2: The Good, the Bad and the Thief BOOK 3: Stuck Between a Halo and a Hard Place BOOK 4: Axe Me No Questions BOOK 5: No Better Demons BOOK 6: Demons of NY
The protagonist in the story is a snarky thief, Theo Apollonia, who steals priceless artifacts to pay off her debts. The situations go from bad to worse quite often. Her familiars, Simon and Garfunkel (not sure if they sing), join her on a dangerous heist that angers a powerful crime boss. Now Theo is up against some powerful mythical guardians, gangs and an underground fighting arena where constellations and mythical creatures battle to the death. And death is required.
Then even more is put at risk – the world and Theo’s loved ones. Does she have what it takes to prevent the apocalypse? Grab this box set and see if she is ready to do something really noble this time.
I love box sets because there is no waiting to see what happens next! I enjoyed seeing the characters in the story who used to be constellations in the sky, along with the creatures from mythology, ghosts, and all kinds of oddities. So the variety of opponents is endless.
I was impressed with this set of books, as I said, a breath of fresh air. At first, I thought it was a little silly, but when you get into it, it so funny, incredibly convoluted, ingeniously written, and impressive. I cannot work out if it is written for kids or adults..lo l, but who cares. It works for both. Ramy Vance knows his mythical creatures and brings them all to life. You have constellations falling back to earth, Orion, Libra, Scorpio, and others, Minataur and arachne half woman half spider, who talks like a spoilt cheer leader. I am 70 this year, and believe me,it is refreshing to read something you didn't expect was so exceptional....and funny. Well recommended. 5🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.
That was another good one and I am still impressed with the world that these authors have built. Are there parts that are cringe and that I dislike because it is too stereotypical and human-centric; sure, of course. But some minor continuity issues with itself and the other stories aside, overall I still thoroughly enjoyed these stories and the others. The parts that I really liked and loved, the parts that made me laugh or cry, those are what holds more weight for me in a story. As long as a story is stuffed with that, I can overlook almost anything.
I loved this book and the characters in it the story was compelling I had a hard time putting it down it took me like 4 I loved this book and the characters in it the story was compelling I had a hard time putting it down it took me like 4 days to read it because like I said I couldn't put it down I would recommend this book to all my friends to read it because like I said I couldn't put it down I would recommend this book to all my friends
I've been reading the whole "GoneGod World" series and am a huge fan! "Better Demons" has been a treat to read. From Theo to Orion to the familiars, to the whole gang of characters, each was described so well I could see them in my mind! The hilarity, mayhem, action, and suspense was so vivid and engaging it was like watching movies instead of reading! In fact, these would make fabulous movies!!! I 100% recommend these books to everyone!!!
I stopped reading during chapter 71 The Good Wife, page 361 of 1264 or 37% of this box set. I really enjoyed Kidnapping Phoenixes and Other Ways to Die series by the same author, set in the same world, but this one didn't keep my interest as well. There's an underground fighting ring where fallen constellations and monsters fight each other to the death, only to be resurrected, if I remember correctly.
interesting characterisation. Thoroughly good read.
I enjoyed most of this series. A very long book so I did fast forward during the epic fights. Not really my scene. However, very well written. Good strong characterisation. Excellent storyline. Author’s have good imagination. I would read more of this series. Thank you
Funny, sarcastic, hurt and anger, there's something for everyone. Through all the GoneGod books I'm definitely sure they're all favorites. With more action n less romance, with more Others still learning the ways of life as we know it. I personally enjoyed non-stop reading in the boxed sets.
The boxed set is young adult with a lot of violence. How she met the familiars and Orion is never explained. Despite some characters from other GoneGods series this feels like a stand alone story. The World Army is never mentioned. The action carries you along.
Love all the God gone world books . So desperate for the lead heroines to meet up and finally get the world and others united . PLEASE . If by any chance the great Ramy reads this ? Read this entire box set in three days ! . Just in case you need a proof reader ? . It seems like so long between your books otherwise ! .
Adventurous, A little funny come And a teeny bit of romance!
I've been reading the gonegod world books. There is a little bit of everything in the series. It only took me 3 days to read the 6 books As they are very entertaining. I've read some of the other series Of the gone god world books and they all are very entertaining. See for yourself.
I love this entire universe and Theo and her goofy gang are just another amazing example of the ridiculously great writers Ramy has gathered to help him tell this EPIC story!! Howard S (the S stands for Super Fan!)
Just an amazing series set in the GodGone Universe, really awesome series. Filled with everything you want action love terror and a kickass Heroine with many amazing friends. Highly recommend
This book was fun to read. Continuous action, loved the characters, I usually don't read gorey books, but Simon & Garfunkle made it palatable. I used to read alot of mythology . Some of your characters brought back fond memories.
These books were different than I was expecting. I wasn't sure in the beginning if I was going to like them. As it turned out, I couldn't put them down. I can't wait to read more from these authors.
I definitely liked this one. It was creative, heart warming and even funny at times. There never was quite such a mix of myth, legend and the zombie apocalypse as this.
The zombie apocalypse is happening and a very angry God named Nyx is responsible. Only a human thief named Theo can save everyone from the end of the world. Fun and entertaining, it's a ride for all to enjoy!
Quite a unique storyline. Simon and Garfunkel were amazing characters. There were some in congruent chapters i n the beginning that may have been cut and paste errors because they didn't tie into to the majority of this book set. However, that didn't detract overall.
I read reviews Phoenix book first... can't recommend enough... and was I initially disappointed with this one. However, I persevered and am glad I did. The characters grow on you, their personalities develop, and its all magic!
READ THESE BOOKS! Great world building. Characters to root for! Hero’s, others, gods and lots and lots of fights! Zombies, oh my! The hero has a group of side kicks that you must read to believe!
A wonderful sequel in the GoneGods series. Loved Theo and her " familiars". The fact that they went "out of the frying pan, into the fire" time and time again was what made the book non-stop adventure. I'm anxious to read more from these authors.
It was very entertaining. I loved the characters and I felt like I knew them. I would very much like another book with Simon and Garfunkle and Theo and all the rest.
