Libraries are great in general, but also for reading series you're mildly curious about. This one's chief claim to fame is that it's not isekai; it's much closer kin to Solo Leveling in its use of dungeon fantasy in the otherwise real world. Fairly mediocre, it goes between spot-on humor about the hero's despair at a newly spawned dungeon eating his snowblower and introducing a female character ass-first in a pose that would seem to indicate that she lacks a spine. I wouldn't buy more, but if the library gets more volumes, I'll read them.

Manga

This was a fun one. The guy isn't trying to be OP, he just wants to be seen and have more blog reviews. The running gag of him being near invisible and then creepy with the mask was entertaining, if not a little sad. Love the art and the story.

This was suggested to me by a coworker and I love it! The story is pretty simple but I love the characters and the setting. Its a very fun read especially if you love dnd or rpg video games.

Frankly, kind of dull. There are much better dungeon crawl manga out there. There are a couple of bright moments: the main character's lament about his lost snow blower is genuinely funny, and the detail about unscrupulous adventuring parties tricking rookies into acting as monster bait rings true. But there's also the character who's literally introduced ass first, which would be insulting even if I weren't already generally bored by the story.

Karaboshi dreams of being an adventurer, but every day he struggles to be seen. When a dungeon appears in his garage and he finds a skill board that helps him level up, he takes the chance to break free of his invisibility and make a name for himself.

This one was okay. I liked the premise, but I didn't find the story all that interesting. We mostly just follow Karaboshi around as he slaughters monsters with the help of his mysterious skill board.

The art is good. Characters are fine. But the female characters are pretty eye-rolling. They are either completely helpless or super sexual and are always in awe of the main character. Not my style.

Okay read. Had some potential but I don't think I'll be continuing this series.

A fun and fast-paced adventure that just might get me back into manga and anime again after a long stint away. Perfect for casual fans of D&D, MMORPGs, and Sword Art Online, but who want something a little more light.

I wasn’t a fan of how two female characters were clearly sexually objectified in the panels that they were in, but otherwise, I thought the art was detailed and active enough for the combat scenes. As for the translation, it’s superb. It’s got that new adult gamer voice down-pat, and it doesn’t get bogged down by the world that’s building on the page. Like I said, really fun to read!

This book has an absolutely terrible opening, poor world building, and an average plot. I appreciate that it is not an isekai and more akin to an urban fantasy of sorts but it is just not presented that well. I also feel like no great connection to the characters was established that would make me want to read more. That said, I didn’t hate this one. For some reason I feel like I will pick up the next volume, probably just that the main character doesn’t do anything atrocious like some other protagonist do in the first volume. Yeah, I’m not sure about this one. Solidly ok despite everything.

I thought it sounded familiar, but I couldn't find out why until I started reading and realized that I had read this before. Although the initial concept is interesting, the execution is unmemorable. Which is funny considering that the MC of this manga is easily forgotten by the people who meet him. I wouldn't buy this manga, but I will continue to read this one. The fan service isn't overboard in this one so it is a quick, mindless read.

Good story

I thought it was a bit short but it pulled me in. I really like how the main character is invisible but finally gets noticed while wearing the mask. Looking forward to the next volume.

A comedic action packed book. It ended on a cliffhanger, so of course I would like to read the next book in the series. There may or may not be a budding romance, but I guess I’ll find out if I keep reading.

This is Solo Leveling, but the main character has control over his leveling... somewhat: he put all his points in Growth Acceleration.*

The standout feature, as it were, is the MC has a terminal case of invisibility; no one sees him even if he's standing RIGHT THERE! ...which is an interesting curse, narratively speaking! Interesting enough that I'll see where it goes, though I'm aware it's not exactly a stand-out story (haha).

This was in the half-price bin, though, so not sure if I'll be able to find the rest of this series without special ordering... :/

*It's like instead of putting points into Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence, he put his points into Level, so he just gets higher level stupid fast. Since stats go up with level, he just levels faster vs. specific stats getting a higher boost with each level... I guess—it doesn't explain itself well, so that's what I have to assume?

(re-read update, almost a year later by SHEER COINCIDENCE)
As I promised myself, note regarding the skill board: SURPRISE, it's , besides being a probably ULTRA MEGA SUPER RARE magic item!

Also *really* worried about that storekeeper's back; that first page where she appears, her spine looks like it's been folded neatly in half... D: (Male Gaze, your fetish is terrible)

The book was about an adventurer increasing his rank score so he would get noticed but when he goes into a monster dungeon he saves this girl from these other three men who abandoned her and let her die to a monster swarm. It ended with the adventurer Karaboshi getting revenge on the three guys that abandoned Karen the girl in the monster dungeon.
