This book is a great read and made me want to forget my worries and responsibilities for a few hours. Thank you Phil for taking me on a great journey. I felt like I was with Tom Blume the whole time. Will definitely read more of his books.
Thomas Blume is an ex-american police officer who is now living in London as he is trying to track down the murderer of his wife and son. He is about to be sent back to america as his visitor's visa only has a few days left to run. He sees a woman watching his house a few times and he manages to find her address through her car registration number. His landlord's son is very helpful, though goodness knows how they get through the systems on the DVLA site. Anyway he ends up at her house and her son was kidnapped sometime ago and the police didn't have any success tracking him down, and she now knows that there were more young boys who had also disappeared. She asks Thomas for help and although he has just a few days left in London he sets about trying to find all of them. Which is no mean feat, I mean our police may not be the best in the world but they are pretty good!!
Obviousy being an American and finding his way through a policing system which is vastly different from america he solves all the crimes in just days!! Ah well, it is fiction! What I really liked though was the ending, now that was a real shocker!!! I feel I want to read the next book just to see how exactly that pans out and who is this other guy??? So I have this feeling that Thomas will be staying on in London fighting more crimes than the Met can solve!! I bet any british police officers reading this book are really impressed (am being ironic here guys! We do irony well over here!!).
I loved this story! It’s was suspenseful and I didn’t have the ending figured out in the beginning. My favourite part was the shocker in the epilogue. Definitely gets me wanting to read the next in the series!
Decent story but fairly predictable plot. Got annoyed with some obvious editing issues, too. Not a bad beach read especially since it was a free download on BookBub.
3.5 Stars. Pretty good detective story. Not exactly hardboiled, but in that vein. It was good enough that I would like to continue reading in the series. The epilogue hints towards some intrigue which is a good hook towards making me want to read the second book in the series.
