Chaos is the new normal. Rage from both sides of the political spectrum dominates the news. Into that cauldron a cadre of former special operators, intent on establishing a Term Limits Amendment, start killing politicians--both left-wing and right-wing--and warn of more bloodshed unless their demands are realized.
Special Agents Tom Kintrell and Laneva Alvarez of the FBI, with the help of Lieutenant Norm Stryker of the Philadelphia Police Department, are tasked with stopping the assassinations and bringing the perpetrators to justice--all while staying out of the crosshairs of the deadliest killers on the planet.
A false flag and a baffling kidnapping deflect the investigation. A stolen laptop, a mole in the Bureau, and a cipher book presage the horrific endgame of the conspirators--an attack that will shake the very foundation of the Republic and forever change our vision of security.
Termination Limits is the first book in the propulsive, unputdownable Tom Kintrell action thriller series.
I was disappointed and disturbed that the author chose veterans and a civilian who helps veterans as the enemies and murderers. The FBI hero broke rules and laws as part of his daily crime solving tasks.
For a first book, R.J. O'Rourke really hit the nail on the head. A superb cast of characters that will hopefully be in the next Tom Kintrell. As a fellow Vietnam vet I salute you from my retirement home in Thailand. Now, please hurry up and bring us another great adventure. Now all I have to do us check out your son, thanks for the info on him. All the best. David LaForest
This was an enjoyable read. The book would have easily been given five stars had the editing been better. There were too many characters for the reader to manage. Sometimes the character would be referred to by the last name. Sometimes the character was referred to by the first name. I was often confused who was who. Also, the author would use numerous acronyms like SAIC, CIRG Teams, etc. Although an initial definition was provided, it was difficult to keep everything straight when the acronym was used again latter in the book. This author is definitely now on my radar screen. I will be looking for his future books.
Given the current political realities and the frustration votes like me feel, it wasn't hard to relate to the cadre determined to force a term limits agenda or to agree it's way past time to rid our country of the aristocracy our congress has become in spite of our forefather's efforts to keep it from happening. But Mr. O'Rourke has also given us a cast of characters determined to stop the bloodshed that we can relate to and root for. Applauds for this awesome book - the best I've read in quite awhile. I sure hope there is a second Tom Kintrell book coming soon.
An interesting approach to term limits for Congress.
I started this book thinking it would have a sloppy plot and that I may not finish it. Boy was I wrong. I read it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. A well thought out plot that was a little weak in a couple of places but still totally enjoyable. In it I found another author whose writings I shall follow, because it was well worth reading.
I liked the book a lot. Usually I don’t review series until the last one is in the pits and marked. It’s a great opener to a series or it will age just as well as a single novel. The author gets an enthusiastic attaboy for doing something I sure can’t. I’d suggest that if a certain Philly (see what I did there) were to get his own series, that’d be the right thing to do. #SemperFidelis
Tom Kintrell FBI agent, good guy. Judge Adams former supreme court nominee , bad guy.
Although, many wouldn't disagree with Judge Adams beliefs regarding term limits for politicans, they would disagree with how he goes about making his point.
The book was an easy read, Tom fighting to get to the truth all the while having to evade the head of the investigation Dixon-( the ones who can get ahead without having to do the work.
Seeing the first of anything requires a walk into the unknown. This was so worth those steps. Lots of action, a storyline with interesting turns and characters worth knowing. Great relationships and loyalty knit it all together. Will anxiously watch for the next books which project to be even more involved and exciting.
Neat tale, but overly wordy in all the wrong places
The Author needs a better dialogue Editor and maybe basic storytelling lessons. The read was full of unlikely banter of course the FBI has become a bit of a joke these days, especially at the top. "This R ain't no P by a long shot!!!!"
A page turning agency thriller with a unique plot.
This in an exciting FBI thriller with a rich agent and a savy female partner. The wealthy agent refuses to follow proper protocol, get lots of help from friends in other agencies, gets the bad guys and and falls for his partner. You will love the plot, trust me.
I loved the first chapter or two talking about America. The characters were interesting and worked well as a team to save Congress. Kittrell is going to a great hero and Stryker and Alvarez will assist him along the way. They also had the ass kissing political agent that’s more worried about his moving up than getting the job done . N to book two.
Ok, I’m hooked on Kintrell. Thanks R.J. O’Rourke for not bogging down the action with in-depth details about equipment and weapons. The characters are great and the good guys were likable. The bad guys could be respected and hated at same time. Thanks for an outstanding book.
Great story and very timely. A rogue Miltia group headed by a Rich jaded judge is in charge and he wants to change the political process. FBI AGENT Thomas Kintrell a rogue rich Operator who bends the rules to prevent criminal activity is forced to improvise to prevent a National Disaster. Great storyline
One of the most enjoyable “thrillers” I have ever read! O’Rourke has extensive knowledge, which is well documented in this book, and a tremendous ability to show the human side of the agents. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor and interaction of these characters! Again, a MUST READ! I have to find the second one immediately.
As I said, O'Rourke is a new author for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved Kintrell and Lanny as well as Stryker. Will be looking for the next story by him.
This book was a great legal thriller that keeps you on your toes. In small ways it also gives you some things to think about for those with open minds and belief that no one is above the law. Looking forward to the next book.
Love the full bore action. No grass growing here. Sure is helpful to know talented people. This also has some “real world” suggestions for cleaning up the government. I would like to see them enacted! Can’t wait to see what Tom gets into next.
Easy and enjoyable read. Political intrigue and inter-service rivalry was appreciated. Interested in his following books. Will be hoping the best for this author as his efforts have been worthwhile.
This is the first book I have read of RJ O' Rourke but it want be the last ! I have found a new author that I enjoyed reading his books! If you enjoy good books give his a try you want be disappointed!
This is a great adventure story with never ending action. I would have awarded it 5 stars if the author didn't make so many errors describing popular weapons. He did much better describing his characters and locations.
Characters are well developed individuals who take us all over the world. It made me think “Does the end justify the means?” When does morality enter in? What is right and wrong?
Until I finished this book, it drew me in. Also too easily this plot could be real. Dealing with that note, I'm glad this writer has the solution! Good writing, good book!
A good story - a little fantastic - but great characters. The characters alone allow you to enjoy the story. Great repartee. Looking forward to see is next for Kuntrell
I felt this book was entertaining, but not deep. I liked the characters, but the plot wasn't very realistic. Everything was too easy. Not enough twist and turns. However, I would read book 2.
If fast paced action and colorful characters appeal to you, read this book! It dives right into exciting events and never stops taking you for a thrill ride. Hard to put down once you start reading.
Really enjoyed the story-very contemporary. Character development a little weak. Sort of flat. Dialogue at times mundane, stiff. Would still recommend.
Loved the book, very Intriguing. It left me wanting g to re-read it, as quite a few we sentences left a clue, if interpreted in correctly, left clues needed to follow the story. A very good read
