DNF at 25%. Maybe it's because I haven't read the first book (my fault for not realizing, I didn't see it on the cover until after I started reading, but I could not get into this world. *This eARC was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Forbidden love, romance, and danger.

This is a paranormal shifter romance story in which 14-year-old Sirona Leigh has made a terrible mistake. She spent her life convincing everyone she was a siren robbed of her voice by illness, then she saved a young man and exposed the true nature of her gift. On the run because of her gift, she and her parents moved from place to place, trying to keep one step ahead of those who would drag her back and force her into a compelled-mating with their alpha. The story deals with abuse/neglect, assault, humiliation and degradation, and the threat and attempt of rape. Word building is well done, the characters are well drawn. Overall a good story, which takes the reader on an intriguing journey of forbidden love, romance, and danger.

Two years ago, Liam had been rescued from the drug and sex trafficker, Woodroe, by Marrok, forming a fast and loyal bond between the berserker and this alpha. While an alpha himself, Liam's wolf is content to defer to the man who saved him, content to take his place as beta at the Elswyth Chase Pack. For two years, Liam did nothing but keep the pack's best interests at heart. That was, until he laid eyes on Sirona. This silver-haired siren had captivated him from the moment he laid eyes upon her. There was only one problem, she was his brother's mate. Little did he know Sirona had been guarding a secret her entire life, she had been on the run for years, and with her twenty-first birthday closing in, her past returned to haunt her, putting Liam, and everyone around him in danger. He'd not only taken his brother's mate, he'd stumbled into something that could change the very balance of power amongst the clans.

Chasing Starlight is the second book in the Elswyth Chase Series by Emily Stormbrook, and what a read it is. Having read Hel to Pay I was keen to get my hands on this gem, and found myself amazed at the diversity of the author. While book one centred around Marrok and Hel, this book focused on Liam and Sirona's story, and what a story it was. Filled with darkness and romance, there were times when the sentiments were so moving, so heart-wrenching, that I found myself rereading the lines that stirred such powerful responses in me. I loved this story, it had everything from romance and heartbreak, to danger, secrets, and betrayal. One thing I particularly enjoyed, was that Sirona uses sign language to communicate, in the Timberland Pack, but a few people had learnt how to sign, so you get a real feel for the isolation that was being forced upon her. As for Luke, I wanted to wrap my hands around this throat and choke the life out of him, and I have a sneaky suspicion we'll be seeing him again in later books. This was an amazing read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a paranormal romance with hot and steamy scenes, sweet romance, and escalating danger. This is definitely one of those rare books I see myself rereading in the future.

I read this on KU and purchased it as well

This book left me feeling meh...and also a little confused. So much seemed to happen and yet also nothing seemed to happen. It was the most bizarre situation.
I loved the premise, this girl with a big secret on the run for her life, destined to be mated to a man who only wants her for her power. Great idea right?
It had me so hooked. I thought it was a fun twist on the common shifter themes. The issue for me was that the novelty of this fun idea was run into the ground very quickly.
This was so so repetitive. Not just in the writing (where the mechanics of the mating system are explained repeatedly in almost every chapter) but also in the fact that Sirona's special snowflake-ness is constantly changing. It always goes someone is after her for whatever reason, they catch her, she is magically saved by the fact that she isn't that special thing...she's a different special thing. And this happens again and again and again. It takes all the novelty out of her character if every time they get in a tough spot another part of her weird-hybridness happens to save or hinder them more for no apparent reason other than the fact it can because it's FANTASY.
Then near the end of the book after all the saving and changing and saving and changing...she is exactly in the same position she was at the start of the book - but this time she is okay with it because she has a mate she loves now? What? Like no! A life of running cannot just be undone like that. It annoyed me so much.
I mentioned the writing was repetitive in places, there were also some odd POV changes that made it slightly hard to follow but other than that it was decently written.
Like I said, I adored the concept. The characters weren't anything special but they also were not bad by any means. There were a couple of things I felt left things open but this is part of a series so that could potentially be why.
Overall, not the worst thing I' ve read and definitely had promise but just got too repetitive for me.

Such an Excellent Story !!! . . .

Because what she really is would be a powerful temptation to all males who want to make use of that power as her mate, Sirona is under the identity of a siren unable to speak or heart, using sign language. Because she is also a submissive, she is constantly tormented and temporarily marked by other shifters and, when she turns 21, one of them can compel her to be their mate.

Liam an Alpha wolf shifter and a berserker was saved from a horrible car wreck by Sirona, the Healer who hides her identity. She knew immediately he was her fated mate. What she didn’t know was that the cruel Alpha saw her heal Liam, knew what she was, and even though she was only 14, he tried to force her to mate with him so he could have her power. When Liam sees her years later, he feels an immediate connection, but is told she is the mate of his dark and evil twin brother, Luke. Sirona was confused seeing Liam who looked like Luke but showed gentleness and kindness. She called him Winchester, because she never knew his name back then and she had taken his Winchester knife. Would she discover that Liam was her true mate? Would he save her from Luke and his mean pack? Liam belonged to a wonderful pack who would accept her, unlike Luke’s pack. But Luke will not let her go because her powers would make him invincible. And she would not stay with Liam regardless because she knew they would never stop coming after her. She would not want to endanger Liam and the pack he belonged to now. So she was ready to run.

Sirona and Liam's story is so good and the story line flows so well and naturally. The characters are unforgettable and unique. These two are soulmates but why doesn't Liam fully recognize their mate status? Why would he defer to Luke? There is more going on than anyone realizes. Grab your copy and get caught up in this fantastic story!

I honestly really liked this story. Some of the other reviews didn't make this book look promising. But since I'm a sucker for shifter romance - especially erotic ones. I took the chance on reading it, and I'm so glad I did!

Sirona is hiding a secret, because of this, she and her family have been on the run since she was 14 and saved her mate's life. Being on the run, she has been moving from place to place she's never had a home where she can relax. She's changed schools every time her parents thought they might be exposed. At those schools, she takes a lot of abuse for being a submissive mute siren. Since she's a submissive, anyone can mark her and make her theirs. However, these marks don't last long so it's a weekly game the males play. This causes her to be humiliated and degraded week after week.

After a traumatic event happens, she goes to live with the pack of her true-mate. Here she isn't treated with kindness and respect. She's treated like trash or a slave.

This book has quite a few triggers: abuse/neglect, assault, humiliation and degradation, and the threat and attempt of rape.

Overall, Sirona and Liam's story is one filled with heartbreak, loss, and sadness; however, there is also light, love, and growth. I really did love their development and how the story played out.

Since I did receive an uncorrected proof there were typos and confusing sentences that were worded out of order, while it did make reading a little harder, that is to be expected. I still loved this book so much that I already bought a physical copy that will arrive next week!

Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the advanced copy to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I finished this story with my heart all warm and a huge smile on my face. The story made me turn the pages, craving to know what was coming next, cheering for Sirona, because if someone deserved a happy ending, it was our girl.
I like the pace of the story. No dragging, no boring fillers. This was packed with nail-biting action, twists and turns, and a lot of heart-clenching, PLUS the romance and love scenes....AH...

Our heroine is a fox shifter with some special abilities that make her a coveted possession. Her reality is very harsh and she goes through tons of bad sh*t, but her resilience and cleverness are amazing. OH, and her animal form is SO. FREAKING. ADORABLE. Lord help me, I WANT ONE. We get to know the animal's personality too, and it's impossible not to love the little fox.
...And when she interacts with her wolf mate? I almost died with the cuteness.

The hero is super hot. You know that grumpy type that becomes totally precious with his heroine? Yup, that's our wolf. Not only he was totally hubby material (the packed, growling, fanning-inducing type) but his pack was a family, and I kept wondering about the story of the other guys too (I'm a SUCKER for this grumpy taciturn type, and there's one there that I'm VERY curious about, can't wait to read his story).

The tension and the hot scenes were sizzling. Maybe that's a bit of TMI (ok, it's very TMI—I know ) but...I'd keep a fresh pair of underwear ready.

Recommended.

Even though it is book 2, there were no issues for me reading it without knowing about book 1.
The main couple is a different one, Sirona and Liam, and the introduction to the world was well written and you don't need any pre-knowledge.
I had the feeling that the author managed it super well :)

Please do read the trigger warnings - this is not for everyone.

The story itself was an emotional rollercoaster! Hell, I was feeling all the emotions Sirona went through and it was just hard. She had to suffer so much and then Liam, this stubborn, hot beta. Yeah, it took them a while to figure it out what was going on but the in the end, all was well.

I did very much like the writing style, it was captivating and the book had everything I want from a good romantasy-read! It also made me long for book 1 and fully understand how everything started :)

*****

Overpowering attraction
Chasing Starlight is a fascinating story by Emily Stormbrook, taking us into the world of preternaturals or shifters – superhumans with the ability to change themselves into animals at the touch of a button. The heroine of the story is Sirona Leigh who has unusual parents. Her father was a fox and her mother was a nymph, a combination of traits that not unnaturally transforms her into a siren in most young men’s eyes. They cannot wait to leave their mark on her to claim her as their mate when she reaches the age of twenty-one. But it is her overpowering attraction as a healer that makes her sought after, a magical power that came to light when she was only fourteen. Pulling a man from a car crash, she saved his life by putting him into a coma and healed him. Unfortunately, the man she thought she’d saved turns into a monster who sees his chance of taking over the pack by forcing her to become his mate and use her power of healing to his advantage. She is saved by a chance encounter with an identical looking stranger from another clan whose gentle and unassuming nature wins her over and blossoms into love. Without spoiling the plot, I can only suggest you follow my advice and read this gripping tale to see for yourself who wins the day. You will not be disappointed.

I was excited to return to world after reading the first book by the author. Though it's an old trope (paranormal-romance), I liked that the author created a world in which it wasn't just werewolves or Fae. She created a world where all supernatural brings and shifters existed in hierarchical clustered packs with alphas, betas, and omegas. The driving force like in any society is power. In this world, it's the submissives that get taken advantage of must watch out if they have a lot of in spiritual power.

This story is a stand-alone but it has crossover characters from "Hel to Pay", so it was nice seeing the berserker, Liam, on his journey to love and others from his pack have his back. I really hope there is more to come because I've been enjoying these books.

As the sequel to Hel to Pay, I was looking forward to reading this book, and it didn’t disappoint. It isn’t necessary to have read the first book, though I’m glad I did as it made this world even richer. I loved Liam in the first book, and am so glad he found a mate who was worthy of him. Sirona is lovely, gentle, and so much stronger than anyone gives her credit for.

The brutality and bullying Sirona ensures throughout so much of her childhood is heartbreaking, and I loved the side characters (Mike & Jax) who did whatever they could to help her. Honestly I really hope they each get their own HEAs at some point, because they totally deserve them.

Very well written & edited. The only thing I would have liked to see is a bit more closure with Liam’s family. But that could be because Luke deserves a lot more comeuppance than he got, IMHO. Can’t wait for the next book!!

I loved this book and it was a must read after I read Hel to Pay. The lead characters from that book feature in Chasing Starlight - Marrok and Hel are now settled together.

I knew I would enjoy this as soon as one of the pack was compared to Sawyer from Lost! I felt immense sadness for Sirona, the treatment towards her was at times cruel which forces her to flee.

The simmering tension between Sirona and Liam was intense and long overdue.

This is a well written book by a talented author. I look forward to the next instalment.

The first part of this book was meh. I had a hard time connecting to the characters and, the way it disjointedly jumped from character to character in the first part was confusing. As the story went on, it picked up. The sex scenes were steamy and what made the book 3 stars for me.

This was the second book in the series. I didn’t read the first but had no problem following along so it can be read as a stand alone. I liked the premise for the book and the plot was ok.

Right off the bat I'll admit to being a shifter fan. That being said, I found this author's writing to flow smoothly, almost as if a poet wrote it. It was a refreshing change to many PNR books I've attempted to read in the past. That doesn't mean it's sweet and clean, though. It's a steamy and word-wise unrestricted story, albeit I barely noticed. I'll read this one a second time (which is odd for me). 5 stars from me.

Good story line

I like the story for the most part, but all the over explaining of every aspect of the things in the story was a complete draw back and made me skim thru a lot of it. Everything single thing was explainined to an extreme, that was actually annoying after awhile. It was also repetitive throughout the book. Reading virtually the same thing over and over. I think if the author had Slimmed back it would have been a great story!

Sirona isn't your normal shifter she has a gift one she had to keep hidden until one event exposures her and makes her a target. Liam was saved by Marrok he always puts his pack forst but when he meets Sirona things go for a spin. Thisbos well written with a good story line and characters you cant help fall for!

I thoroughly enjoyed Sirona and Liam's story. They are soulmates but only Sirona knows it after rescuing him from an accident. There are dark forces working to keep them apart. Sirona has lots of things in her past to work through in order to trust Liam and their future together. I thought this was a great read but also would have enjoyed Liam's troublesome twin Luke getting his ass kicked.

The synopsis for this seemed so goof and I really wanted to enjoy this but unfortunately the multiple POVs weren’t done very well and it just ended up being confusing and this isn’t just 2 or 3 characters it’s every single chapter. Which is a pity as I wanted to love it

Loved it

I love these books, they're so we'll thought out and keep you guessing through out. I can't stop reading, having to know that everything will turn out well in the end. I loved these two, perhaps even more than the last. Brilliant story.

I found the general idea of this story really interesting and enjoyed it but it got confusing with so many dynamics to the different beings and the way the author built this world. It was a little repetitive or disjointed storytelling and I found myself skim reading chunks

I enjoyed Sirona and Liam's story. They are soulmates only Liam doesn't know but only because there are forces that are trying to tear them apart but, eventually, after all the dark they find their light and their HEA.
They both come from dark pasts and It was so hard to get through Sirona's painful past and most of her present. Up until she meets Liam she is pretty much just trying to survive without being forcefully claimed. Until she can escape. Over all it was a great read.

The PDF version that I read had a notice that it was a much older edition and that errors were included and not the most recent cleaned up version. With that being said, my review is based on the story with the errors.

It felt a little disorganized and the story was sometimes irregular. There were some scenes that didn't need to be on the pages and by that I mean they either pulled me from the story and they didn't help carry the story along. There was one plot line that just disappear from the book and then another that just appeared out of nowhere. I hope the beta readers picked these up and that the author was able to make it more consistent

The underlying plot was really good and that is what captured my attention, I love me a good shapeshifter story.
