The Beatle Car Bandits

Rate this book
Helen Spencer's got a problem with stolen cars.

What do you get when you cross 1960s supermodels, jealous neighbors and envious businessmen with the Beatles, their wives and girlfriends, and the music of the Summer of Love? A whole bunch of suspects...

The one thing you can’t do is panic.
So why was I panicking?
Because John Lennon's psychedelic Rolls Royce had just been stolen...and I was in charge of it not getting stolen!
George Harrison roared up in his silver Aston Martin, hands on the wheel, brown hair on his collar, cocky look in his eyes, "Get in, Helen. They want a chase, let’s give it to them."
---from The Beatle Car Bandits---

The Beatle Car Bandits ... 1965-69...Helen moves out of Liverpool as the Beatles move to London...and working with the Beatles she stumbles across a dastardly plot to steal the Beatles' cars ... one at a time or all at once? She's on the case...and she's got one job to do...match wits with the mysterious car thieves and foil their plot. Make that ten jobs to do...

She's out on her own now...can she still come through for the Beatles, or will their cars, including John's world famous and head turning psychedelic yellow Rolls Royce, disappear forever? With car chases, drag races, studies at Oxford, college loves and bursting space rockets, Helen has her hands full in a hilarious adventure through the late 1960s.

John revved his engine more. The others looked at him.
Then Paul started revving his Austin.
Ringo stalled his red Facel, then restarted it.
George held firm, both hands on the wheel.
---from The Beatle Car Bandits---

And today in her Florida home Scotland Yard's Inspector Tuffle has been asking a lot of questions about the 60's, Helen and the Beatles. Can Helen figure him out, too? Or, is his inquisition leading up to Helen's arrest, for stealing what she knows she took?

This wonderful madcap mystery starts when Helen Spencer, (now 70), tells the story of when she was in Uni in the late 60s, her struggles in Rocketry which is her dad's profession. She gets called many times by a one of the Beatles to come guard their cars, but John's psychedelic yellow Rolls is stolen a few times and Helen has to find it. The guys aren't touring but recording and enjoying the success and their families. Helen is treated like a little sister, encouraged to follow her dreams. Which helps her succeed.

I accidentally read this before book 3. I'm hoping this series will continue for a long time, that the ending which tugged at my heart so hard that I had streaming tears, is not the true end. OMG the reunion, the letters-wow! I really commend the author for making me love Helen, and live the 60s with her. He makes John, George, Paul and Ringo come alive when they were still close friends. This is my favorite of this series.

This is the 4th book in this series that I have read and they all have been delightful. The author really brought the 60s to life for me and the books brought back a lot of memories, especially of the Beatles performance at the Hollywood Bowl as I was there! If you like the Beatles, or the 60s, or just want a fun cozy to read, I highly recommend this series. They are fun!

Really enjoyed this delightful Beatles mystery!

I've very much loved reading these mysteries revolving around the Beatles! Some drama and a lot of laughs. Really captured their personalities. Especially John's. I got all teary eyed when I read the part about Brian passing. If course when Paul and Ringo came to Florida to see her after all those years brought the years again! Great series!!!

Glorious ending to Helen’s story

Arthur Kal Smagh has written some of the best, lighthearted Beatles books around. And this, Book 4, is the most satisfying of all. Ranging from the sad end of The Beatles, till Helen’s mystery is resolved. It left me in tears, and filled with joy at the same time.
God bless you Kal Smagh. And please, somehow, someway, keep them coming. I simply cannot imagine this storyline ever ending. It particulars far too special to ever be forgotten.
