This was just so mid, I’m sorry. The art is beautiful but the story is very mediocre. The protag is more boring than usual for an isekai. And, without sounding like I’m ace-phobic or something, but for real, god save me from these sexless men. I’m not saying he needs to be a horndog, but at least give me some insight into the guy as to why he is so disinterested.
I did like that the isekai-man actually shows some signs that he misses earth and doesn’t want to live in the fantasy world. Usually they seem like they could care less about their old life which feels a little unrealistic. Still, it’s undersold by the fact that we have next to no window into this guy’s interiority. He’s such a blank slate reader insert that his character design is practically a rough draft compared with the beautifully detailed women of the fantasy world, and yet he fails to live up to any sort of self-insert fantasy a reader might have.
I should comment on the women. I like the female protagonists in this. They're fairly well rounded despite the one-note they're all given. The issue with the book isn't the women, they're fine. I know what kind of book this is, I know they're going to be written in such a way to play into romantic/sexual fantasies of the presumed male reader, and each one is indeed that. But they are charming, especially Nia and Rosette, both of whom feel like they could carry a story on their own if they were given one.
Still though, underwhelming ass book, kind of wish I hadn’t read it. Kind of adds further proof that underwhelming is almost worse than bad bc you get frustrated over what could make it better.
Just in case the cover is not enough of a clue this series is a part of the Ghost Ship line of manga coming out of Seven Seas Production. As such this story although short has mature elements including at least one scene where someone is intoxicated and taken advantage of though there are no sex scenes.
A pretty typical Isekai story of a guy suddenly finding himself in another world with the simple act of walking through a door. However this one shot is not about a hero coming to another to save everyone but instead paints a picture of a world that can be a little scary but ultimately everyone is pretty kind if not a little on the horny side. You see the half devil Nia discovers errant world hopper Keitaro and having had a human father herself she knows the only chance she has to have her own children is to mate with a human but she also doesn't want to trap her new interest much as her father was. Sadly being a one shot this manga is short on story but fills the gap with monster girls with interesting quirks/personalities and leads to an open finish that will probably only continue through fanfiction but you never know if Minoru Mitsuba will want to explore the story later.
Along the way we meet an assortment of fantasy creatures including other half devils of various personalities who all need a human to breed as Nia and Keitaro look for a way to get him home. Honestly if Keitaro was willing to help all of these poor half-devil girls he could do his part and help save their species though I am curious if humans are so rare why are there at least five half devils in the book. :)
This was one of the most enjoyable manga single on shot volumes I've ever read! Really well done and interesting isekai and two great devil girls!! The only down side to this is that I wish it had more volumes!!
