A Harrowing Story

Having experienced some of the same issues as a parent, I found the author’s narrative particularly difficult to read emotionally. However, all my kids are fine today and so is hers. Refusing to give up on the child you love while holding up right behavior usually wins out. The book also highlights how far our culture has slipped downhill and created dangers for our young far beyond what never used to exist. I knew a girl whom I mentored who lived a similar drugs and sex and flop house life. Her mother moved her whole family to another state to give her daughter a better life and it worked! Never give up on your child!

Reading No Matter Was was riveting and enlightening for me. I enjoyed the book beginning to end and it evoked many emotions along the way. I'd highly recommend anyone to read this, not only to those who have experienced similar struggles through life but also to those who just want a good story to read. Not only is it a well written engaging story, but it brings to light many issues that are still ongoing in our society today. 5 stars - will read again

This is an honest, terrifying and inspirational account of a family’s struggle to support their child through real teenage problems. Monika’s feelings of determination, desperation and resolution are relatable to parents and people who work with youth. This story looks unflinchingly at common issues of mental health, learning disabilities, bullying, substance abuse and peer pressure. It is also an account of true love by parents who refused to give up on their daughter, no matter what.

For any child who has been bullied or any child who has been the bully you need to read this book. Only then will people learn what this does to the victim of bullying. Parents need to get their heads out of the sand and realize this is something that goes on every day all over the world. Needs to be discussed so kids can start being kids and not have to worry about what’s going to happen to them on a daily basis!!

Monika's memoir style book evokes all kinds of emotions as she shares the trials of parenting a troubled teen and her commitment to never give up "No Matter What." Her story of struggle and determination brings inspiration, but could be especially encouraging to parents whose children have grown tired of facing hurdle after hurdle and seem to give up.

Monika is an amazing person and I have had the privilege of hosting her on my podcast. Her story is incredible and my only reason for 4 stars is that while she shares the challenging part of story, I would love to have seen more in this book about the healing process and how she and her family have grown, and what they can teach us from these experiences. I certainly hope to see a follow up.
