Ofelia Archer has a lot on her plate. Between building renovations for her new business endeavor and plans to move in with her boyfriend for the duration of the construction, she doesn’t have time for anything else. All that changes when a teenage girl is almost abducted in front of her bar. Ofelia and her boyfriend Zacharias “Zach” Sully intervene, save the girl, and believe they have the kidnapper caged in … only to find that he’s somehow escaped in plain sight. When digging further, they find there have been a string of disappearances from the outer parishes, something someone is working hard to keep under wraps. Ofelia and Sully are on the case, but the harder they look, the more trouble they find. It seems the girls that are being targeted are from poorer areas. The only girl from an opulent family to be targeted is the one they managed to save. But why? Ofelia may be comfortable in the French Quarter but Bywater is where she’s needed. Unfortunately, the people there aren’t open to trusting newcomers. As she tries to ingratiate herself, she befriends a local artist … who may just be a target herself. Ofelia lives in a magical world, a world where she’s often the queen. This time, she may be in over her head. The stakes are too high to abandon the mission, though, and she’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth … even if it will leave a scar on the city she loves so much. Buckle up, because it’s going to be a bumpy – and magical – ride.
The newest book in the SSCMB is, as usual, as much fun as it is interesting. As Jack and Ophelia are busy making plans for their new penthouse in the building Jack has helped her buy, A girl is almost kidnapped right outside Ophelia's bar. Jack and Fe manage to rescue her, but the driver shrugs off Fe's magic and disappears in plain sight. Obviously, magic is involved, but whose, and what kind? While investigating the botched attempt, Jack discovers that several other young girls have disappeared from different districts, and the crimes have been sloppily filed, and then ignored. With Jack and Fe on the case, (as well as Fe's dad and mom), There will be nowhere to hide. Unfortunately, the districts all of the girls, (except one) who have disappeared, don't trust the police, and for good reason. Their entreaties to them to find their daughters have been all but ignored, and it's not until the disappearance of the daughter of a wealthy business owner that a real investigation is launched. Jack and Fe's determination to rescue these girls, if possible, or to at least find out what happened to them, is making someone nervous. From what Fe is hearing from her sources, this someone is not someone to mess with. But, then... neither are Jack or Fe! If you haven't read any of the other books in the series, be sure to start with the first book and read them in order! You won't be disappointed!
This book was about 4 girls who were kidnapped and the only my reason Sully was notified of the missing girls is because he and Ofelia helped fight off the kidnapper who was trying to take a rich girl. The other 4 girls were from the poor side of town and their kidnappings had been “swept under the rug”.
Ofelia was bothered so much that she got involved trying to find the girls and discover who took them.
Ofelia also signed the plans for remodeling her building and building a penthouse in it. She and Sully are going to live in the penthouse together. Ofelia had conflict with her mother and Sully forced Ofelia together with her mother to work things out between them. How’d that work out? Hmmm. Oscar, Ofelia’s father is getting closer to being helped for his bi-polar disorder. Ofelia and Sully told him that the next time he “throws a fit”, Oscar will be cut off and be taken to the doctor to get medicated.
Next book in this series is the 8th and called “Heaven & Spell (A Supernatural Speakeasy Cozy Mystery Book 8)” however it will not be released until April 5, 2022.
So the next book I’m going to read is called “Murder Over Easy (A Sunny Side Up Cozy Mystery Book 1)” by Rosie A. Point.
This is an exceptionally entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Ophelia archer is a witch who lives in New Orleans in the French quarter. She owns a popular bar near Bourbon Street and has an apartment above it where she lives. Her father used on the bar until she bought it from him years ago. Ophelia is a very powerful witch and her boyfriend happens to be a New Orleans police detective. He also happens to be a panther shifter. Ophelia tends to get involved in cases in New Orleans where there’s supernatural issues going on. There are a few in the New Orleans Police Department who know about supernaturals and what is going on. Yet only a few of them. Her father still hangs around the bar and covers for her when she’s not there. Along with her detective boyfriend and a few other Supernatural‘s around town they always find the culprit who is doing evil deeds. Read on and find out what adventure is going on in this book. You will not be disappointed and it is an entertaining read from beginning to end.
Bob Kinney is keen to reward Ofelia and Sully when they save his teenage daughter Beth from being abducted. But the duo don't want a reward, what they want is to know why several girls from the poorer districts have been abducted and yet the reports haven't crossed Sully's desk. Why are they not all being investigated? What's more the kidnapper managed to deflect Ofelia's spells, throw Beth into hee and knock Sully flying before escaping in a stolen car.. and how when it crashed did he just vanish in front of witnesses?
Neither Sully nor Ofelia can really blame the folks from Bywater for not wanting to talk to the cops but without some information they can't put anything right and won't be able to bring the girls home. All they need is a tiny nudge in the right direction..
Ofelia has extra on her plate though when first her mother and then her father decide to join her on her investigation.. and they are wise to her tricks.. roping in Pascal to distract the bickering pair could finally mean she's talking to the one person who knows Bob Kinney's secret.. but will it be enough to stop the abductions once and for all?
It seems the author doesn’t know New Orleans all that well.
Yes, a big discrepancy that was in this book that bothered me a lot was making all the areas into parishes. .New Orleans is in Orleans Parish. The places in the book are all part of Orleans Parish: ninth ward, bywater, etc. There are 64 parishes. There are no counties in Louisiana. These facts are available online. And it’s very hard to walk everywhere. No one would try to walk. Non-native people get confused all the time. The parts of the city were given names and not numbers or locations to make It easier to get around the city. I was born in New Orleans and now live in neighboring Jefferson Parish. The infamous 17th Street Canal that flooded AFTER Katrina, divides Orleans and Jefferson parishes.
Fe is back and feisty as ever. Perhaps a little too feisty. Miss Thing needs to learn that no person is an island. Anyway, teenage girls are going missing, and Fe and Sully need to find out who’s behind it and why.
I find these books a little tough to read because of Oscar’s mental illness. My mom suffered from bipolar disorder, as did my late partner. Ms Hart has truly captured the problems with getting those afflicted to seek treatment, not to mention to be compliant with it. That aside, another must read from the Queen of Snark.
I really wanted to like this series but I just can’t. Ofelia is okay as a character but Sully is controlling and honestly is no value added when it comes time to actually do something with the bad guy. He tries to boss her around, manage her relationships with her parents and brother and rushed a relationship after only a few weeks. Every book we have to sit through pages and pages of how much they love each other, how perfect they are together, blah blah blah. No strong plot development because of the pages of external characters talking about their relationship.
Entertaining paranormal series. Someone is kidnapping girls and the poor ones kidnapped are not investigated. Fe and Sully don't discover the issue until they stop a rich girl from being kidnapped. Fe's mom and dad try to be involved which is tiresome for her. Pascal's character is developing and becoming more involved in situations. The villain of the story was easily identified but did not take away from the story line. Things are happening in Fe and Sully's personal life which add to the story.
Enjoyed this book. Ending was a little anti climactic, but the book was pretty fast paced. Lots of renovation plans, lots of struggles with her dad. Glad Sully is able to handle him. Her mom is suddenly trying to be a mom, which is weird. I like Ophelia and Sully as a couple and I love her powers. Wish Sully's abilities were used more. They are a fun couple that take fight to spice things up. The good guys win, chad guys don't. All around success.
I love this series of books,a lot of thought and enjoyment has gone into these you can tell..I love the characters and their real lives and woes..It speaks on many levels, and true to life problems.I would recommend these books to anybody who loves,a good book, with soppy in love main two characters..But you must love a good happy ever after ending for every book.❤❤❤❤❤❤enjoy you won't be disappointed.xxxxxx
I enjoy LHH's books, and I especially love the dynamic between Fe and Sully. The secondary plot regarding setting boundaries and demanding accountability from Fe's dad is sensitively written. The primary storyline about the missing girls is both engaging and unfortunately realistic. The climactic takedown is surprisingly lackluster, however. This is still a good series that will have this reader happily returning to NOLA!
What a great new mystery, girls going missing, is it magical??? Can Ofelia and Sully fight it and win? I love Ofelia and Sully’s relationship it just fits, they just fit and how Sully handles Oscar is wonderful. I’m interested to see how the renovations move on and what extra trouble these two can find.
I'm from Baton Rouge Louisiana and love to read these. Love that the language isn't cringey. Some authors try to put in the vernacular and you have to cringe because it isn't quite (or it's completely wrong) right.
Entertaining characters and good story. Recommended. No graphic (sex or violence) content.
I really love how the author tackles real life struggles with Oscar and balances his behavior with understanding. Fe and Sully have their hands full with the case and working thru building public trust when the public had been let down, then throw in Oscar and Marie! Poor Fe had her hands full!
This time round Fe and Sully are investigating a string of missing girls except they didn’t know they were missing because they’ve been taken from the poorer areas and weren’t followed up on properly.
Well not on their watch. This goes involves some very old magic. How will they defeat this one?
I highly recommend this fascinating book set in magical New Orleans, and the supernatural series in which it is, to readers who love reading Mysterious fantasy. Enjoy! If you love Hart's wonderful books, and you haven't yet read her many series written under the name Amanda M. Lee, you have missed some of the best books published.
The "Penthouse" work above The bar is starting. Fe and Sully have a plan for Father's mental illness problems self control. Young women are being kidnapped around the area and Fe is deter!mined to find out who and why when they come upon one happening. Kick assery insues
Book 7 has all the attributes and characters as the previous books with a new and very strong villain. And a girl who may or may not be a victim of an attempted kidnapping. Sully and Ofellia are finally getting ready for their renovations and Oscar is a very unhappy parent. The author does know how to hold your attention. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed this latest book in the Supernatural Speakeasy series. Another interesting story with good characters. I’d love to have Pascal in more stories and learn more about his history. I’m looking forward to new characters and the new building. I also look forward to the next book in the series.
Another great addition to this series set in New Orleans . The plot and subplots move quickly and the characters flow naturally. The characters are growing along with the series which makes it fresh. I can’t wait for the next book!
I enjoyed the story plot and I love the characters. LHH and AML books are the best and I highly recommend them to my friends and everyone else. I have not had one of their books disappoint me.
As always Lilly Harper Hart has knocked it out of the ballpark. The characters are strong, loveable and become real. I wish Oscar would get the much needed help he needs. Also, I want Felix to have his own success intertwined of course with the Krewe.
Amanda Lee is always going to deliver a great book that will entertain yogi fir a few hours. Fe and Sully are back again, solving the mystery of some missing girls and also navigating their relationship and their families. It was excellent as always!
This is a really good book by a very talented writer. The storyline kept me on my toes. I can't wait for the next book about Ofelia's adventures by my number one favorite author. Ms. Hart is a very good and original storyteller! You won't be disappointed at all.
I really enjoy this series and this book did not disappoint. I love the location being in NOLA. The characters are quirky and snarky. I enjoy their interactions. There is plenty of mystery and romance too.
Ofelia and Sully thwart an attempted kidnapping outside the bar and find that girls have been going missing in lower profile parts of town. Plans for the renovation continue.
This is a relatively new series in the land of Lily Harper Hart but it’s one of my favorites. Ofelia and Sully are a great team and I love that hey are stronger together but neither are weak apart. Definitely a great series.
This is one if my favorite series by Ms. Hart. I love the settings and the characters that she has created in this series! Tough as nails, but huge hearts of gold. Always making the right choices even if they are hard choices.
