Makings of a Witch #4

Queen of Curses

Rate this book
A new year has sprung at Salem Bridge Academy, and everything was looking bright!

After defeating the secret society after me and saving the wizards who love me, I'm at the top of my class, capable of magic no one's ever dreamed of before. So much so that I've been asked to travel to wizard conferences, become the talk of the academy, spend more than a few steamy nights with my men, and nothing could be finer.

Except... I've been having dreams of something dark and dangerous awakening out there, something that could threaten everything I love and hold dear. But I'm not afraid, not anymore, so I'm going to go out there and find it before anyone gets hurt.

They always said to follow your dreams, right?

Still chugging along...!

I'm guessing this author didn't bother with an editor. If she did, that editor needs to be fired and never used by anyone ever again.
Throughout this series, there have been issues with spelling and inconsistency. In this book, I didn't get past page ONE without finding a spelling mistake. (What was supposed to be "mist" was "must.") Maybe people find this not to be a big deal, but as an avid reader, someone who did a co-op at a newspaper where spelling, grammar and editing was hugely important, and someone with a bit of minor OCD, it gets annoying fast. Especially so when the word is wrong completely (not just a wrong letter) and you need to reread it to figure out what it's MEANT to spell, or when she says one boyfriend's name but actually means another. (Example: She was with Nick one night, she drank water from a glass then passed it back to him, but the book says she gave it to Cesar).

Eventually, at 40% in, I had nearly given up on the series and was about to skip past stuff to finish quicker. I did skim it a bit, basically just reading dialog, but I forced myself to keep going. Thankfully, it did get better again. It's like, I want to just move on to a different series, yet this one JUST has my attention enough to not give up, yet!

Creative

I liked this book for the most part. It had gripped me from the start. I loved reading about how she helped bring back magic in other females. She was being called the Twenty-First Century Mage. It was rough to see how hard she had trying to rest, even I had suspected someone was manipulating them. There is a ton of foreshadow in these books. Pay close attention and it’s awesome to see somewhat of a closed chapter of waiting to those moments. The ending I didn’t like very much, as I felt it was rushed and didn’t conclude like Melody has done with all the other books in the series. There was the skipping most of 2nd year, tons of sleeping issues, magic going wonky and hiding things from people when it’s clear that it should have been voiced from the geck go. I wasn’t much a fan of these scenes as some was hard to read, others I’m screaming in my head at her that she should be honest about what’s really going on. Be her defence, because no one seems to suspect that bad dreams may not be entirely natural? Or to voice that the reason the forest paths have changed is because there’s someone behind it? Im glad the next book is out though. I need some closure on this one.

wow, this was great

Love this series and this book was yet another fantastic edition. The action, the magic, the twists and history - loved it all.
It’s written in such a way, so detailed you fall into the story - I couldn’t put it down.
I love Amber and her group - they are all talented in their own way. Each with their strengths that complement Amber.
That fight scenes was amazing, I honestly read it 3 times.
Can’t wait to get into the next book.

Not bad

I found this one very interesting but a little slow. Once everything picked up it was really well done but getting there had me in a slump and it took me 3 times as long to finish.
