ok this one was a bit slow, but nevertheless I loved it!!🥰 The efforts Miyo put in to improve herself from her previous timid self and then Kiyoka caring for her was everything ughh 😩💘 The slowburn between them is absolutely a treat 😍 It helps so much that I watched the anime series adaption first, because I can actually see the scenes playing out in the book 🤭💗 Onto the next one, as it's going to be more action-packed!🤩

The second book in the series is still somewhat better, as we see Kiyoka and Miyo navigating through all their misunderstandings and insecurities.
Somehwere the miscommunication trope had entered and I felt slightly itched by it. But i couldn't blame either of the characters because I understood their reason and their fear. But I'm glad that it resolved in the same book or else I would be clawing at the wall for that.
Miyo is still the same character, but she's still strong. She's battling her inner demons and nightmares. I can understand why she feels so insecure and lacks confidence. It wasn't easier for her before, and it wouldn't be easy for her to not question every her and his actions. I still have hope for her and I'm still rooting for her.
Kiyoka, well isn't he the greenest flag ever? Despite being so tired and weak himself, he worries over her and her nightmares, stays with her until she's in a deep sleep and waits for her to speak about her nightmares to him. The way he would feel shy after she would compliment him and pat his head maybe hehe. I was giggling and smiling at his antics. I could feel his tears, the way he fought for her but still lost. And still wanted her words that if she wanted to leave or not.
I could write a lot about him but it's not enough, I love him so much, he's so perfect for Miyo and the way he cares for her🫶
Eventually the confession about nightmare doesn't go as plans, with some reckless words and frustrations.
Honestly yes, I was glad that I saw progress in their relationship, and I could understand why it is said to be 'slow burn'. They navigate through all while feeling their emotions grow of how they would like to keep each other and live together.
Hazuka was also such a different and amazing character, the way she would teach and help Miyo. Her story was yes saddening, but I was happy how she was still herself. The cousin of Miyo was also slightly different then what I expected, yet I liked him. Even though a marriage between him and her was such a shocking point [unless I got something wrong] I'm just glad nothing went through it!
.🎐 .final thoughts. - personally I'm actually enjoying the series! The characters are getting some great development and the romance is also so good! The way they care and support each other is also so sweet and I smiled so many times at Miyo and Kiyoka's actions.

I… feel conflicted about this book LOL.
The thing that bugs me the most about this book is none other than the translation. I know the Japanese language has a lot of expressions that are hard to translate, like "うっ…" or "…っ！" or any variant of that. Still, you could do so much better than converting every single one of those into "Hng!" or "Hnh!" regardless of the situation. It's so awkward. There's this thing called paraphrasing, and sometimes you just have to do it to avoid that kind of outcome.
Anyway, about the book itself… The first half is definitely not my favorite. In her determination to be a good fiancée, Miyo is starting to take etiquette lessons from Kiyoka's older sister, Hazuki. Unfortunately, as hinted in the first book, Miyo does have a Gift and it's been sapping her energy each day through nightmares. Between her lessons and lack of sleep, she quickly withers away while Kiyoka is kept busy at work due to the actions of a certain political figure. All of this eventually comes crumbling down with the one plot device I truly dislike: the misunderstanding.
That being said, I like how Miyo's character is handled. Her long years of trauma won't disappear that easily, and she is making progress at her own pace. It's realistic, and personally I think that part is written well. I just really don't like misunderstandings, especially when it's as bad as the one happening in this book. Is it necessary for Miyo and Kiyoka to grow? Yes. Still doesn't mean I have to like it LOL. After we get past this whole part, however, it's a really engaging read as Miyo finally awakens her Gift and uses it to help Kiyoka. They also open up even more after that, leading to a lot of cute moments. Especially in the epilogue.
There's also quite a lot of new characters introduced here. Hazuki has her own personal arc, which may or may not lead us to discover a surprising connection. I actually like Hazuki a lot. Her presence really brightens up the entire book, and she provides a truly nice contrast to both Miyo and Kiyoka. Aside from her, we also see Miyo's grandfather and cousin from the Usuba family, as well as the emperor's second son, Prince Takaihito. This volume has more politics involved, and it also shows more fantasy elements even if it's still rather light. Seems like the next book will be dealing with Kiyoka's mother's disapproval of Miyo, so I shall prepare myself for family drama as I wait for it to come out.

I just can't with this.
This volume was so, so, SO frustrating to read through. The amount of miscommunication and misunderstandings had me nearly rip my hair out in anger. Miyo's meek character reached its peak in this book and I couldn't take it anymore. The conversations and flow of the story felt awkward as all hell, especially after Hazuki came into the picture. There's nothing inherently wrong with her besides being a stereotypical, outgoing big sister type you see in most shojo/josei oriented manga/novels. But somehow, her involvement in Kiyoka and Miyo's relationship only made things worse IMO. Yes, it was Miyo's idea to start her 'bridal' training and yes, Hazuki did a good job helping her- but her fierce, overprotective attitude and "uwu she can do no wrong" stance towards Miyo only further helped in turning the latter into a baby.
You'd think that... after EVERYTHING this couple went through in volume 1, their relationship would get stronger but... nope. It actually seemed to have gotten weaker. While Kiyoka was the one who really, really tried to help his fiancée open up and feel more comfortable, Miyo on the other hand, did everything in her power to destroy it, albeit unknowingly. Yes, the narrative is that her self esteem is low enough to lick dirt- but her loyalty towards Kiyoka is what's supposed to keep her going forward. In an effort to make this volume somehow even MORE dramatic than the last, the author added a bunch of really dumb misunderstandings and another evil family to fight through. Great. More family drama; that's what we really needed in this volume, not well-paced and structured character development. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that the whole point of this volume is to have Miyo get her proper character development; but the way the author wrote it is simply unrealistic and frustrating.
I wanted to power-through this novel, but Miyo's character really annoyed me. I liked how the first half of the story focused on world-building and setting up a decent, supernatural plot. I liked how we had Kiyoka act the part of a loving, understanding and doting husband. I really hated how Miyo was written though, and it's one of the biggest reasons why i DNF'd the book. She refused to open up to her fiancée in fear of 'burdening' him, despite his insistence that she couldn't ever. She kept pushing herself to the point of becoming sick while lying to everyone that she was 'ok', including Kiyoka. She actually believed that Kiyoka would LEAVE HER for 'being a burden', despite EVERYTHING he has done for her. She broke his heart by lying and lying, hiding about her nightmares and sickly state. And the cherry on top? When they both went to the Usuba estate and discovered the truth about her powers- Miyo actually resented her MOTHER for protecting her and sealing her abilities. She really thought it would've been better to have earned the love of her shitty family, who tormented and tortured her in volume 1, rather than the thoughtful protection of her mother. That's insane.
Oh, and the part that really pissed me off? When her cousin Arata asked her if she'd like to come stay with them (her mothers side of the family) or remain with Kiyoka. Miyo, again, was 'afraid' of 'becoming a burden' to Kiyoka. So instead of reaffirming her love and devotion to him; she pretty much shrugged it off and said that it didn't matter, much to Kiyoka's shock and chagrin. My heart broke for him because this man literally juggles between his intense military duties and a wife-to-be with PTSD- and still does an INCREDIBLE JOB as both a commander and fiancée. Give this man a medal.
I also wanted to choke Hazuki for saying that Kiyoka's the idiot and one at fault in their rapidly declining relationship... Sis, your brother did nothing wrong. He was a goddamn sweetheart the whole way through.
My ADHD went off the charts while writing this. There's so much to say but I have so very little patience. I can't even bring myself to think of the right words. There's nothing wrong with reading a book about a heroine like Miyo, and I don't think every female lead should be kickass or anything. But when you write a character this meek, this prone to create misunderstandings- it gets really, really annoying, regardless of her past.
I can't rate this novel, I don't have the right to.

dint expect to like this series because of some cliches but thanks to my friends Leia and Fea who gave me their own perspective and made me appreciate and kilig more, eager to know what happens next.. 💓

Bonds weren’t formed by one-sided approaches, but by two people both trying to grow closer to the other.
I really like this volume, love to see Miyo's growth it's slow but steady. This volume is slightly more intense than the previous one, intense in world or political sense and emotional relationship between Miyo and Kiyoka, I'm sure it'll only get more intricated as the story develop. We also get to meet many other character that will be encounter a lot in the future such as Usuba family. If you have suspicion about Miyo's ability in previous volume you get your answer here.
I can't stop myself from smiling almost everytime I read the interaction between Miyo and Kiyoka, they're really adore and gentle with each other it's so adorable. I'm still curious about Tatsuishi's character, there's still not much info about him and add Prince Takaihito to the list, it seems he's gonna be an even more important character.
Maybe because I'm used to read 86 light novel I expected to find some illustration along the story but I found nothing at all, so if you want to see the illustration of other character you gotta read the manga. All in all I love this book, I wish I could jump to read the next book right away but I have to wait for the english version to be released in few months, can't wait to see what happened next.

This was adorable, but the lack of communication made this abysmal. I have never felt so much rage and cuteness all at once. Literally, I was an angry kitten while reading.
The second installment of this series had so many missed opportunities and was at times very difficult to read because the story became disjointed. The story lost its focus....Miyo and Kiyoka. I honestly feel each one of these books should be glued together to make one large novel. By doing this, the author could develop the relationship between Miyo and Kiyoka and spend time giving you the back story of their situation. Instead, everything feels rushed. I really didn't enjoy this until the end, and I was lost at the beginning. I'm hoping the next volume will be better.

Maybe it is just the translation, but this continues to read like a cheesy amateur fanfic and I am somehow totally into it.

The book’s initial half leaves much to be desired, as it unfolds with Miyo’s earnest attempts to embody the role of a devoted fiancée. Under the tutelage of Kiyoka’s elder sister, Hazuki, she immerses herself in etiquette lessons, striving to meet the expectations placed upon her. However, the narrative hints at a deeper struggle; Miyo possesses a Gift that manifests through haunting nightmares, draining her vitality day by day. After the events of the first volume, Miyo never has to worry about the Saimoris again, but that doesn't mean the poor self-esteem they left her with is gone. In this volume, Miyo decides she wants to start studying etiquette - she's painfully aware that her education as a young noble lady was cut short due to the way her family treated her, and she's concerned that she'll be an embarrassment to Kiyoka. Kiyoka asks his sister, Hazuki, to be Miyo's teacher, which has the additional benefit of giving Miyo another friendly and supportive woman in her life besides Yurie.
Unfortunately, it isn't all flowers and sunshine where Miyo and Kiyoka's developing relationship is concerned, due to a combination of Miyo's poor self-esteem, Kiyoka's increased workload, and the two of them being too socially awkward to know how to communication openly with each other. Miyo is having nightmares so frequently that the lack of sleep is starting to take a toll on her health. Although she thinks she's hiding it from Kiyoka (she knows he's busy at work and doesn't want to cause him problems), Kiyoka knows about the nightmares and is waiting for her to talk about what's bothering her.
While these two anxiously hover around each other, a newcomer, Arata Tsuruki, decides to take advantage of the situation in order to become closer to Miyo.
My description makes this sound like the setup for a jealousy storyline. Same with the publisher's description. Rest assured, however, that that's not the case. You'll probably still want to smack the characters silly for not talking to each other properly, but at least it won't be because one party is convinced that the other has started falling for someone else.
Anyway, this volume had some issues with its writing that I didn't recall in volume 1. As it turns out, volume 2 has a new translator, so I'm thinking it's definitely a translation issue rather than a problem with the original work. That said, it's still readable, even if certain sentences are structured a bit oddly.
Storywise, I think I liked volume 2 more than volume 1, although problems were still resolved way too quickly and easily. Volume 2 includes some political machinations and Usuba family developments. I wasn't expecting the Usuba family to turn up so early, and even then I thought they'd hover in the background for a few books before actually doing anything. One of the benefits of this series being so tightly written (possibly overly tightly) is not having to wait for fun things like the introduction of the mind-controlling Usuba family. Granted, just like other Gifted characters in this series, they don't get much opportunity to show off. You'd think Miyo would need some actual on-page training before gaining better control of her powers, but no.
I like this series despite its issues and plan on continuing. I just hope that the characters stop getting in their own way so much in the next volume. (Although internal conflict is the only conflict this series doesn't solve in an instant...)

Includes an afterword by the author. From the sounds of things, the original web version of this had more bloat. I think we may have a unicorn: a light novel author who listens to their editor.

Low self-esteem lies at the heart of Miyo’s problems. After living with Kiyoka for a while, Miyo slowly finds her own worth, but it is long, slow process and it requires the love and care of the people around her. This second volume of “My Happy Marriage” by Akumi Agitogi focuses on Miyo’s character development and filling in her backstory.
The book weaves her insecurities into the blossoming relationship between Miyo and Kiyoka, because they are unable to move forward until she is truthful to herself and to him about her need for his love. This domestic drama is the emotional heart of the book, while the political context of the Emperor and his scheming results in Miyo being separated from Kiyoka.
At this point their relationship is not strong enough to withstand such an opponent but the people around them help them acknowledge their true feelings. The story of Miyo’s mother, Sumi Usuba, and Miyo’s Dream-Gift is instrumental in the politics surrounding them, but it is also what allows Miyo to save Kiyoka who has been targeted precisely because of this marriage. So the tables are turned and the timid mouse is able to save the lion.
Hazuki, Kiyoka’s big sister, is a major factor in helping Miyo recover from her traumatizing childhood at the Saimori residence. Hazuki is a fashionable noblewoman with confidence to spare, but she also has an unconventional backstory with a son and divorce. She is wise in the ways of the world, because she has experienced what can happen, which makes her the perfect choice to help Miyo develop confidence. It is also fun to see her tease her little brother, so that he is presented as a brother as well as a fiancé.
The book ends with a domestic scene that shows Miyo and Kiyoka slowly growing closer. The kumihimo hair tie that Miyo had made for him has come loose and so on his way out of the door, she asks him to stoop down so she can tie it for him. This is a touching, domestic scene, because it reveals her level of comfort in showing her care for him, but it is also indicative of his love for her that he is willing to kneel before her. Afterwards, “Kiyoka had casually turned around to bring his face far closer to hers than she’d expected. Close enough to feel each other’s breath on their cheeks, the tips of their noses almost touching” (p. 182). It will be interesting to see how their relationship progresses in the next volume …

I might be biased with this couple but I cannot help it, I truly see the potential between them and even though for the most part of this volume we have a lot of misunderstandings and lack of communication, in reality, it makes sense for Miyo’s character, who has been traumatized for her whole life.
We get introduced to a couple of new characters who are part of the Usuba’s family and now we know why Miyo’s mother was important to them, and why they were so secretive of their own people’s gifts. We also meet Kiyoka’s older sister, a high-ranked commander and the prince.
Miyo struggled for her whole life and now she’s wondering what being part of a family means and what she needs to do in order to be worthy of Kiyoka. But, you see, she’s already a wonderful person –she’s honest, caring, she wants to learn new things and little by little, she’s been coming out of her shell. He loves her for who she is and wants to protect her and make her happy. They both want to be able to walk the same path as a married couple. And that’s what I love about them. They are learning how to be a good team.
They’ve known each other for a little time but they have changed for the better and you can clearly see how both of them are growing and trying to get better at this arranged marriage. I think they complement each other so well because their intentions are pure and honest. Also the cute moments they have together make me giggle –they’re adorable!
I cannot wait to keep on going with the series. Also, I think the animated adaptation is a great complement to the light novels ‘cause the written story is a bit fast paced.

i found this volume way more frustrating than the first one. don't get me wrong, it's still cute, kiyoka can still get it fr, but the amount of miscommunication was driving me crazy!! i'm on my knees begging y'all to just talk to each other 😭✋ like it isn't that hard i promise
the miscommunication trope is high up on my list for bookish pet peeves. it's just so unnecessary and the conflicts that arise from it are so avoidable it's hard to really care or feel anything other than annoyance.
that being said, i still enjoyed seeing kiyoka and miyo growing closer. ngl i'm still gonna hit up the next volume... i'm just a girl after all ✿

This volume is much less grim, as might be expected with the shift from a Cinderella story to one that's a bit more Beauty and the Beast. Either way, it answers a lot of the questions about Miyo's mother's family from the previous book, and while I'll happily keep reading, the series could also easily end here.

Arata got on every and last nerve of mine -_- I was sooooo mad at him with what he did between Miyo and Kiyoka😭😭.
Seeing my girl Miyo go through the ups and downs of getting confidence in yourself is really putting me through it. Her grandfather deserves a small ass whooping.
Seeing Miyo and Kiyo grow together as a couple even though it's literally one step at a time is the cutest thing ever.
Just another good read as I carry on to book 3🤧.
I actually have no idea what to expect in book 3.

I loved this book just as much as I loved the first one ❤️
Author-san is right. I think it’s safe to call this book the “answer” to the mysteries from the first volume. Like, even if somebody tells me this is the last volume, I’d take it and say okay (although, please don’t really be the last English volume; I’d die 😭).
I love seeing Miyo grow as a person. Especially since I relate to her too much. Growing up in a family that does not recognize the worth of a person… Being put down all the time and made to think that she’s not worth anything and will never amount to anything. Such a toxic background will definitely break someone into losing their confidence in themselves. Others might think Miyo’s progress is slow but I think it’s just the right pace, given how the pacing of the story rarely jumps in time. The trauma she went through for years won’t simply disappear over such a short amount time just ‘cause she’s being taken care of and valued now. Although Kiyoka helps but it is still up to Miyo’s own strength and willpower to completely overcome her trauma and accept herself. See her for what she’s really worth just as how Kiyoka sees her.
I also love that Kiyoka, being that he’s not used to showing emotions like caring for others and whatnot, is making a huge effort for her. I have to be honest though, I was very brokenhearted when they were having that huge misunderstanding from lack of proper communication (sheesh, you two!). I can’t even begin to tell the relief I felt when they talked properly and made up. I was over the moon when he apologized. A good man realizes his own mistakes and reflects on them. I literally cried when they argued. My fiancé chuckled saying I was too absorbed in the story. Of course, I am! Even he admitted that we’re a little like Kiyoka and Miyo sometimes. But of course, there’s nothing communication and understanding can’t fix between a couple who truly love each other and have strong bonds ❤️

Grandpa Yoshirou’s words truly are wise and definitely ring true. I truly appreciate how this book delved into what a family really is. Including the past of how Miyo’s mom left the Usubas to marry into the Saimoris. Although it’s only from grandpa’s POV, it still feels good ‘cause at least we got a glimpse of what really happened instead of thinking that Sumi was just cruelly sold off to another bloodline just to prevent their own bloodline’s ruin. I wish we’ve gotten to know more of Sumi though since I bet I’d love her just as I love the other women in this story (excluding evil steps). I also wish we’d get to see more of grandpa spending time with Miyo like a normal grandpa and granddaughter relationship.
Next up is Kiyoka’s older sister, Hazuki. I really like her. She may annoy the heck out of Kiyoka but you can definitely tell how deep their sibling bond goes. I laughed when she slapped and hit Kiyoka a couple of times to get him to come to his senses. I especially like the part where she declared she’s on Miyo’s side instead of her younger brother’s lol. But honestly! I did not expect her ex-husband to be introduced at all lol but it was a nice surprise near the end. And the way Miyo looked at the three of them and thought that they looked so happy no one could tell they were divorced. It’s only wishful thinking on my part but I think if all divorced families are like that then the world could be a better place and children of divorced families won’t have to go through so much hardships especially at such a young age.
Hmmm, this makes it seem like this book was really centered around family bonds and such. I’m not complaining since it’s well incorporated into the story.
I was so worried the author introduced Arata as a second male lead who will be a pest till the end. The relief I felt when he was quickly dismissed as potential love interest, even quicker than Miyo’s childhood sweetheart ha! I hope to see more of Miyo’s growing powers, Dream-Sight gift, since it’s supposed to be even more powerful than the royal family’s Divine Revelation. But OMG a powerful Kudou and a very powerful Usuba? I wanna see their kid/children 😍

Enjoyed this very much! And I was able to read it much more comfortably than the first volume, which I read a couple of years ago.
It’s great to finally know about Miyo’s powers and the whole Usuba clan background. New characters and developments kept things interesting.
I think by the end of the volume Miyo grows a lot as a main heroine again, even after the wavering in the middle of the story. Which wavering only happens because this volume uses one of my least favourite tropes: the miscommunication/ misunderstanding one. Both Kiyoka and Miyo kept a lot to themselves and jumped to assumptions and conclusions only resulting in them both getting their feelings hurt and drifting apart.. I hope in the following volumes they learn to communicate better and convey their feelings to one another in a better way, which I think they have finally understood.
Hadzuki was definitely one of the highlight characters imo, I liked her a lot! Hoping to pick the next volume soon!

This series is literally everything and Kiyoka is a walking green flag and I love that because Miyo seriously needs that unconditional love and respect.
What really stood out to me about this volume is that the author does not gloss over the effects that the abuse had on her. Just because she is loved does not mean that pain and internal hatred that was developed in her from a young age just goes away. I really feel like it is written well and realistically. Just had to shout that out because often it can be overlooked in writing once the romance has gotten traction.
Still suspicious about Mr chestnut hair’s motives but we shall see where it goes. He’d just better keep a good distance from Miyo cause I ain’t standing for no love triangle.

Vieron esos libros que no podes parar de leerlos y cuando paras es porque tenes alguna responsabilidad. Esos libros que hacen que pienses en la historia tooodo el tiempo, incluso cuando estás haciendo otras cosas. Los que hacen que te duela el pecho cuando lees por lo mucho que transmiten (ya sea felicidad o tristeza), bueno, eso es más o menos lo que siento leyendo "My Happy Marriage".
De lo mejor que vengo leyendo en el año y un descubrimiento, ya que nunca había leído una historia de amor japonesa. *Aclaración* No es un manga, es la versión novela original. Si hay un manga pero la versión original es esta que estoy leyendo.

As much as I love this story and the main characters, I have to say I was a bit disappointed here. Thus the one star down..
While all the main events that appeared in manga and anime were preserved and the story had the same flow, everything seemed to be shortened, written more simply and plain, a lot of (interesting and thrilling) details missing. Whether it was only lost in the translation or added later as the novels came first, I can't say, but I definitely missed them a lot.
However, I still hope that the next volumes will be better.

En ce second volume, nous dépassons le manga, et je ne m’y attendais pas. Ce qui a un peu ralenti ma lecture. Car oui (tout comme les carnets de l’apothicaire), le tome 5 m’avait brisé le coeur, je parle du manga. Ici tout se rétablie et même plus, je ne pouvais plus tenir de cet épilogue. Nos deux prota sont attachant et mignon. Une vrai affinité se tisse entre eux deux. Nous avançons petit à petit, et nous comprenons les dessous politique, les manigances de l’empereur et le positionnement de son fils. Le futur n’est pas éclairci, loin de là, on sent que quelque chose se prépare.

3.5 rounded up. Not really much to say about this one. Installment 2. I didn't feel as deeply invested in the characters as I did in the first. It retraced a lot of the character growth that occured in Vol. 1. A few new characters were introduced, but none of them gave me a very coherent understanding of their core personality.
Overall, not as good as the first, but I'll still pick up the third.

i'm sorry i got tired of miyo slowly over the course of this book. i wanna cut her some slack because of the trauma and abuse, but by the end of this volume, i wasn't interested enough to continue the other volumes
