This book is a simplified introduction to Lenormand. However, I am planning to read it again after I read more books about lenormand because the last part about shadowing seemed too much to understand for beginners. Also the Grand Tableau was covered briefly and I'd like more explanations on that. Overall it is a good introduction book, the cards that come with it are not bad, but there are better looking ones available.
This was a quick, easy read, my very first foray into Lenormand. I've been reading tarot for about a year and a half now, which I think plays a large role in the confidence I have to use this book's information to read Lenormand. For someone new to cartomancy, I think perhaps it might not be enough to instill confidence in reading. Still, all the bones are there: what the cards mean, how to read them, and how everything hangs together.
I'm looking forward to practicing soon with my first Grand Tableau, which I thought perhaps would take a long time to work up to--but no. This gets you doing it in one day.
My great-grandmother used to read these cards. In learning about this part of my family history I've discovered that just about every reader has a different way of interpreting them. This isn't a science (surprise!). I have been taught the basics of how she used to discern particular spreads, and not surprisingly I haven't found evidence of that method anywhere. It seems that every person putting this into practice has different ways of putting this "alphabet" together, while the meanings of the individual cards are pretty consistent.
This book has information on each of the cards and their symbolism- no problem there. It's the second half of the book that is rather vague. While a breakdown of the deck is pretty helpful, there isn't as much information on how to specifically interpret spreads. Instead there are just suggestions of how cards could be read, but there isn't a detailed explanation of how they are grouped or relate to one another.
If you're looking for info on how to break down particular rows and columns or what chaining/mirroring is, you'll have to research that on your own. Then again, perhaps you'd prefer not to do that at all. At the end of the day it seems everyone finds their own method for reading these. There is no definitive source on how to do this unless I've missed something. If I have, point me in the right direction.
Quick impressions: In the end, if you are looking to start learning and studying Lenormand, as I am now, this kit is a good option. A topic here or there could use more depth, but overall the kit works to get you started in an easy way.
