Most of us want to be happier people, better partners, and more effective parents. But we don't know how to get there. We wonder where to turn for practical and trustworthy guidance in these vital areas of our lives. Through both revelation and research, God has revealed essential truths for relationships. In Discoveries, you will find valuable and trustworthy solutions for your personal and family challenges. You will learn how to develop greater happiness in your own life, create a more flourishing relationship with your spouse, and effectively guide and love your children.
H. Wallace (Wally) Goddard has a wealth of professional experience. In his work as a professor of family life, he developed many creative and award-winning programs, as well as a public television series. Wally has written or co-written over a dozen books and received the Outstanding Family Life Educator Award.
We commonly profess to believe in Christ, but too often we fall short of being Christlike in our treatment of ourselves and others. Christ both taught and showed us a higher form of living, but even in Church, I don’t hear much said of simple truths like kindness, meekness, patience, long suffering, persuasion, gentleness and love unfeigned. Perhaps, we’re culturally, just not familiar with what that actually looks like.
In Discoveries - Essential Truths for Relationships, Wally Goddard makes those principles and concepts plain, observable, logical, achievable and clear. Using the scriptures and up-to-date research (Wally holds a PhD in Family and Human Development) Wally walks us carefully through what application of Christlike living actually looks like. I loved every example, every explanation, every comparison. The book and it’s lessons are sublime!
I rarely give a book a full five stars, but I joyfully declare this one to be that good, that beneficial. The real star though, is the Savior Jesus Christ, who has taught these truths since the beginning. The question is, whether, we will make the effort, here or elsewhere, to follow Him. I think, on our own personal quests of emulation, we would be wise to take advantage of Wally’s own life-long quest. His intrinsic desire in life and in this wonderful book is simply to point the way to Christ.
I love bringing good scholarship into conversation with gospel truth and practical wisdom--and applying it to personal happiness, marriage, and parenting. I am surely biased since I wrote the book. Yet, if you like those same sources of truth, you may enjoy the book also.
A wonderful book filled with practical application of useful relationship advice. Dr. Goddard explains in a relatable way the pitfalls many of us go through in our relationships with spouse, children, friends, colleagues and others. He uses examples to illustrate how to improve our response to those we care about. I found myself wanting to savor each section and then put it into practice. A great guide to help us all level up our relationships. I feel inspired to implement the new ideas I gained in this book. The tone is relatable and helpful, not preachy or dogmatic. Dr. Goddard's years of experience shines through in this book. I highly recommend it.
