“Why the fuck do you stay?” “I have no choice.” It cut through him to see the quick flash of pain in her eyes and the way she shrugged and tried to smile. “Meg, sweetheart, you always have a choice,” he said gently. “People like you do,” she replied. “I don’t.”
Cooper When the woman you’ve spent a lifetime yearning for suddenly is within your reach. When she’s unattached, and you are too, and getting together would fit so well with everything going on in your lives. And it hits you that you don’t want her anymore. What do you do then?
Meghan When the man you didn’t want anymore needed you in a way you couldn’t reject. When you find yourself trapped in a marriage that will never end. And a man walks into your small business, you look straight into his green, sharp gaze, and you know that there he is. The one who could mean something. What do you do then?
Please note: This book contains crude words and somewhat explicit adult scenes. If this isn’t your thing, then this book might not be for you.
Is it bad that all I wanted to do will reading this book was wrap Maggie and Coop up in a blanket and beat off anyone that would harm them with a stick? I just loved this one and now I'm all out of books to read by Mia until the next book in the series comes out!
This book is the third book in a continuing series of standalone books that connects with other series by the same author. You don’t need to read the other books to enjoy the story, but it gives you history and deeper understanding of some of the characters.
Coop has been single for over 10 years and recently just doesn’t seem interested in any woman at all. In his fifties and just about to become a grandfather for the first time, he just hasn’t found a woman that he connects with and it’s left him ok with life but a bit bored. All his friends have found their women and are amazingly happy and he feels a bit of a spare part, so he puts his head down, focuses on work, goes to the gym, goes for rides and spends time with his Cascadia MC brothers.
Meghan should have been divorced years ago, but circumstances got in the way. Still, she lives alone and if she’s not able to find male companionship she’s found ways of being content with her life. She meditates, teaches yoga and spends time at the crystal shop where she works. She’s learn to breathe through her pain, even if the pain never stops coming. When Cooper decides to try something different and learn yoga he asks Meghan for private tuition and they start to become friends. When Cooper finds out about Meghan’s circumstances he can’t help but act to help the woman he finds so very captivating, even if she is married.
This isn’t your traditional MC book. It’s written about people in their fifties who have grown children and grandchildren. They are mature and know their own minds. They also still have pretty awesome sex lives. One of the things I like about Mia Malone is that she doesn’t shy away from mature people being passionate in all kinds of different ways, and the insecurities or humour that can sometimes go along with the passion.
There are a lot of challenges that this couple face early on after meeting, but they find a way through it. There are still internal challenges to face, it the don’t stay unresolved for long, because they are adults and get over being stupid fairly fast and they have friends who give them a kick if they don’t.
This, like all Mia Malone books, is warm, funny, passionate and filled with wonderful characters. Though there is darkness it doesn’t overwhelm the story and just gives it contrast for the happiness that follows.
I can’t wait for the next book, which looks interesting from the tiny preview we are given at the back of the book. Mia Malone has definitely become one of my go to feel good authors for when I need to be reminded that life doesn’t end at 40!
I didn't think I would ever find an author who's books I would like as much as Kristen Ashley. I was wrong. Mia Malone just does it for me. I have read all of Mia's books multiple times and they never get old. My favorites are the brothers, but this one REALLY scores up there too. I know I will be reading this book again.....and again. Mia is now one of only three authors out of about 30 or so that I collect on my kindle who's books I pre-order, the other two being JD Robb and Cherise Sinclair. I hope Mia continues to write these wonderful stories about strong, protective heroes and the feisty women who love them for many years to come.
Totally worth the wait for another amazing couple from Cascadia.... No spoilers but I literally couldn't put this book down. I love all Mia Malone books. I have reread!!!!
Every book that Mia has written is a must buy and this one is no different! The anticipation of reading this book when my work day was over kept the biggest smile on my face all day. Can't wait for the next one, headed to Amazon to pre-order!
Aw, wow. What a fantastic book. Thoroughly enjoyed Coop and Meggies story. It was also fantastic to have old characters turn up in this book for a glimpse into their lives. Loving the younger generation pairings. Looking forward to Hilt's book. .
I have very few authors left on my auto buy list. Mia Malone is one of those few, and the newest. I preordered this book, I didn’t even know what it was about, who the MCs were, until I started reading. She’s that good. Once again, we have MCs in their fifties, that are not old, they’re sexy and vibrant and interesting. At the same time, they’re mature, they know what’s important in life, there’s no stupid miscommunications, in a way, they’re settled. I loved both Meggie and Coop. I thought they fit together. Meggie had a quiet strength, and Coop in a way did too. Their backstories were believable and real. And I liked the pace of their relationship and the book overall. I liked the use of the prior (and I’m guessing, future) characters. They added to the story, they didn’t take away or distract. I highly recommend this book, and any other one from this author.
Another interesting plotline with the spineless wife of a mob man and his brother who kept her locked into an abusive marriage for his own personal reasons apparently. Really, no reason was given other than she was 'disloyal' by wanting a divorce and her son was gay?? I guess that's why Ricci mob man felt the need to punish her. With the cameras all over the place I thought sure we would be dealing with obsession and lust but nah just homophobia and the brother getting his kicks by torturing Meggie.
Another one with not a lot of action. I will say that this book suffered from the same issue I encountered in Kristen Ashley's book series after awhile. THE GIRLFRIEND CLIQUE... omg I don't need to know all the women from every book and their various men who lead them. I'm not a huge fan of the girlfriend group as I've never really found women to be all that loyal or consistent with that friendship. I've always had to do all the work and I'm not into it the giggly gaggle of gossiping geese they are so when I see it in a book it's just blah for me. My problem.
As an aside, for some reason I thought Lex was already hooked up with someone so the ending with him zeroing in on Charlie the gorgeous daughter of Rosie made no sense to me.
Anyway, Coop and Meggie worked it out even after she had an 'epiphany' that he didn't love her and told him he needed to date other women. Meggie the spineless wasn't sure she was enough for him I guess. Least favorite of the women in all the series, sad to say.
Cooper from the Cascadia MC meets his woman in this one -- but she is trapped in a marriage to an abuser and is scared of retribution from his family members. Cooper is able to rescue her with the help of his brothers, and his blood family, with whom he had mostly broken ties with. Another good tales in the Cascadia series.
Better and better. Mia Malone's world is magical. I just loved how this story unfolded between Coop and Meggie and revisited favs from previous series. Looking forward to Cascadia #4
And Coop and Meggie's story was a wonderful addition. Loved the continued character developments and that we caught up with old friends. Looking forward to Hilt and Auriel's story.
The Cascadia MC takes a bit of a back seat in this romance. A bit of drama with the in-laws, but Meghan is smart and compassionate. It's a sweeter story with less angst, a great summer read.
This book was absolutely perfect as so many levels. A lot of follow up with other characters from Mia books! Most importantly Meg & Coop got a happily ever after.
I like how this author wrote about older characters in this series. The way the characters are written it feels like someone I could know and not just a book character that I dream about. Overall a well written book with likable characters.
Mia Malone stories have a lot of fiction but the characters still deal with a lot of real life. I love that her characters are mature and deal with issues that many of us face as we get more seasoned in life. She approaches things like body image (which many of us face) realistically and doesn't give her mature characters bodies of a twenty year old. I also enjoy when books cross over with characters from her other stories. Looking forward to her next story.
I have to be careful to choose the right time to crack open a Mia Malone book, mostly because I know I won’t be putting it down until I’ve read the last page. It’s a simple fact of life, these books dig their way into the very heart of the readers emotions and twists and turns. I always imagined Cooper would end up with a fire cracker, but while Meggie is unbelievably strong she’s a force of calm and tranquility, exactly what I didn’t realize he would need but he does. Love that these characters are older, but still not always wiser and yet mature enough not to play silly games.
Meggie has been trapped in her marriage for a long time (her husband has Alzheimiers and is in LTC) when she meets Coop. He helps her file for divorce and deal with the repercussions from her former BIL.
