My thanks to the author, Iris Leigh, Victory Editing and NetGalley for a review copy of this book.

With an entire page devoted to cats and books (or should that be cats in books), Keli Cat’s Book Corner, on my book blog, a cosy mystery with cats, and not ordinary cats, but talking ones, was not one I was going to pass up, so when I saw this on NetGalley, I had to request.

Tabby Trouble is the first in the Cat Aunt Cozy Mystery series, and introduces us to our main character Kat (no, she isn’t the, er, … cat). Kat, whose full name we don’t learn in the book, is browbeaten by her friend into taking in the latter’s three fur babies—Lola, Zaira, and Luna while she is away travelling. Kat who is used to dogs but not felines is apprehensive, and as she realises before long, quite inadept at dealing with cats. As soon as they come into her home, things start to smash and she finds she is in above her head, having sleepless nights almost similar to having a newborn in the house.

One morning she is awoken by the sounds of sirens and finds that her neighbour Rose Hastings has died—apparently of a heart-attack, but another neighbour, Mrs Higgins (the wife of a former policeman, and the head of the neighbourhood ‘gossip ring’ as Kat has named it) isn’t convinced and tells Kat this was murder. Kat returns home to find Mrs Hastings’ cat Rusty on her doorstep. She puts out some food, unsure how he’ll get on with her charges, but when she re-enters her home, something seems to hit her and she blacks out. On coming to she finds, of her three charges, Lola has vanished and Rusty has come in—but that isn’t all—now Rusty, Luna and Zaira are actually talking to her. Terrified that she has lost her friend’s cat and about how she will now face her, she tries to ask the three cats where Lola has gotten to. Rusty tells her that he will help her find Lola but only once she solves Mrs Hastings’ murder for murder it was.

With not much choice in the matter, and also half-believing that she has gone mad, Kat is determined to solve the mystery and restore the lost Lola before she is locked up! Snooping around at Mrs Hastings’ home (not particularly well since almost everyone notices), and then after having a chat with Mrs Higgins, Kat finds that there was something different at the brunch Mrs Hastings had hosted just before she died (Mrs Hastings hosted regular brunches and invited many of the neighbourhood, including the gossip ring). She finds out exactly who attended the party and decides to tackle each one by one and pin down the murderer. The domineering but reluctant-to-help Rusty does agree to help her out (the killer was apparently allergic to cats), but eventually Kat has to do much of the detecting herself.

This is a very short little cozy (just over an hour’s reading) which turned out to be a good deal of fun. I loved the whole plot idea since while one usually does find cats aplenty in cozies, but not very often do we find talking cats—and while this was the one fantasy element in an otherwise ‘normal’ mystery, it added a real fun touch. Watching the different cats’ attitudes and ‘hearing’ their different voices as they interact with Kat was pretty amusing.

As for the mystery itself, while nothing out of the ordinary, it was fairly enjoyable as well. We had a good set of suspects, though perhaps, one could have done with a few more suspicious occurrences or circumstances surrounding them since Kat seemed to be able to clear them off rather too easily; but with the length of it, may be that wasn’t such a bad thing. Still, there was a little twist at the end, even after Kat thinks she has things figured out, so there is a surprise there (though the reader might be able to guess much earlier).

The only thing I thought wanting in the book, considering that it was an introductory one in the series was more details about Kat herself. We don’t for instance learn her last name at any point; there is no indication of what she does for a living—in fact she seems to be able to get up and go investigating at any point in the day without any work mentioned (one character does ask her to house-sit, so perhaps she is a house-sitter?). We also learn nothing about her family and where they are though it is mentioned that Kat had a summer job in the neighbourhood flower shop when she was younger which is an indication that she has lived there fairly long.

But other than those little niggles, I though this book, though nothing exceptional, was a fun and quick read; great to while away an hour or so. I certainly am looking forward to following the series and hope the same cats continue on, and perhaps take a more active role in future investigations too!

Tabby Trouble by Iris Leigh was the best cozy mystery I ever read. I really want to read more of this new series, A Cat Aunt Cozy Mystery.

Kat's friend traveled abroad and she needed someone she trusted to watch her three cats, Luna, Zaira, and Lola. Kat was the only one she could call. Kat hadn't any cats so, she looked a little grumpy at first but come on girl, you should know that breaking the dishes (when you didn't put them correctly), walking on TV, and sleeping on the laptop is their right. :) I liked Kat was very responsible and care about them, even though she didn't have cats before.
One day something happens to the neighbor, Mrs. Rose Hastings. When Kate goes outside to see what happened, finds Mrs. Rose's cat, Rusty (Rusty always used to stay inside and outside of the home), and emergency workers coming in and out of her home.
Mrs. Rose's death looked like an accident, but Mrs. Higgins (Kat's next-door neighbor) believes that it wasn't a natural death. It has nothing to do with Kate, she decided to lay water and food for Rusty outside.
Kate touching a plug and got an electrocuted shock and collapsed. Nothing had happened to her, everything seems ordinary, except that when she goes outside to lay water and food, Rusty can talk, Luna can talk, and Lola is missing!!!
Rusty knows where Lola is but the information isn't free. :) Rusty wanted Kate that solve the murder case, Rose hadn't died accidentally, something had happened but, Rusty doesn't know because when Mrs. Rose had her last garden gathering, she had put Rusty in a separate room.
Kate starts investigating with Rusty, a beautiful and funny ginger cat. Being a detective wasn't so hard for Kate, after all, she has a talking cat for assistants. :)
"All humans are suspicious."

I loved this book. Rusty was amazing! Well, all of them were amazing, Lola, Luna, and Zaira. This was a short clean mystery that I couldn't put it down until the end. Highly recommended this funny, sweet, and mysterious story.

Many thanks to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for giving me the chance to read Tabby Trouble A Cat Aunt Cozy Mystery, Book 1 by Iris Leigh, I have given an honest review.

While reluctantly catsitting her friend's 3 cats, Kat is drawn into investigating a neighbor's murder at the behest of the cats. After a severe electric shock, Kat suddenly discovers she can talk to the cats...
And they talk back to her.

Cute story, more a long short story or novella than a full length book. Rounding up from 3 1/2 stars.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was in the mood for a light-hearted post- Thanksgiving mystery and this was perfect! Kat finds herself "cat-sitting" for three pampered cats with very different personalities. Solving a mystery is the last thing on her mind, however when her neighbor, Rose, is murdered and her mischievous cat Rusty is left homeless, the sleuthing and "cat- whispering" begins.

Kat is clever, kind and not at all sure she can solve the mystery. There are several entertaining "two-legged" characters and her neighbor, across the street, Mrs. Higgins is my favorite. The wife of a retired police detective, she has helped her husband solve cases and now she and Kat team up. It's a duo criminals should watch out for - along with four cats who are on the case!

I've already got the next book and can't to see what happens next!

I love books with pets, especially cats, but this book just didn't make any sense from page one, I also really wanted to like this book, but I just couldn't, no matter how hard I tried. There were just too many inconsistencies, and the protagonist was just Too Stupid To Live. Below are some of the examples of this I will put in spoilers for those who have not read the book:

I wish I could have given a more positive review, but I read a lot of mysteries, and this one needs work. Hopefully, the second in the series will be better.

I received an advance copy from Book Sirens but this in no way influenced my review.

It's always good to pick up a series from the very start and this book Tabby Trouble, is the first in Iris Leigh's new Cat Aunt Cozy Mystery series. The reader gets to meet Kat who is cat-sitting for her best friend when her neighbour dies, so Kat gets involved. A short read at less than 100 pages, it was fun, and fabulous and enjoyed reading about Luna, Zaira and Lola's kitty antics. I'm all set for book two!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from the author via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

This is book 1 in the new Cat Aunt Cozy series and it is a good beginning. A few extra twists make it different from other books where the cat can communicate with the main character. Kat agrees to cat sit Lola, Zaira, and Luna for her best friend. When Kat's neighbor is found dead the cats are the ones leading the investigation giving her the clues to catch the killer. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Kat is sitting her best friend’s 3 cats when her bagel pops up as done and she grabs for the bagel and the plug with wet hands from washing dishes. When she wakes up, the cats are talking to her. She hears a noise at the door and it’s her neighbor’s cat - also talking to her. He insists that his owner was murdered and wants her to find out who did it. One of her friend’s cats has also gone missing and the others won’t tell her where the cat went she until she solves the murder.

Really cute cozy about talking cats and solving a murder. What starts as a cat sitting job for a girlfriend evolves into so much more. Fun cute story quick read.

First read by this author. Things moved at a medium pace, not more like I’m used to.
Kat agrees to cat-sit for her friend’s cats, three of them to be exact. She’s not a cat person so the crashes from the next room set her on edge. This was a bingo challenge at my local library. I will probably try another book by this author before I make a final decision.

This was a must read as I love any cozy with cats. This was a charming fun start to this series. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity.

I adored this well crafted cozy mystery with a likable funny protagnist ( named Kat) and three cats in her care who happen to talk to her. When a murder occurs of a neighbor Kat is involved and attempts to solve the murder. While I figured out the suspect very quick I still enjoyed this debut mystery and look forward to the next in series.

Advanced Reader Copy provided by NetGalley:

I enjoy cozy mysteries, especially ones featuring cats, so I was excited to read this one. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. The premise was interesting but I wasn't able to connect to any of the characters and the writing style was clunky in my opinion. There were also many typos and grammar issues that needed another edit to find and correct. I wish this author success but I doubt I will pick up any more of her books.

As a huge cat and murder mystery lover, I really wanted to like this book. But the author clearly isn’t particularly familiar with cats. I understand the main character wasn’t used to cats, but their behavior wasn’t even described well. The murder mystery elements were seriously lacking, inconsistent, and at times simply made zero sense from a basic logical standpoint.
This aligns to the author’s notes about being a cat “aunt” and accidentally falling into writing cozy mysteries.

- A very "light" read with talking cats.
- Good idea, but not delivered well.
- Too many leaps in logic.
- MC is a bit dumb at times.

Manoeuvered into caring for her friend's cats, Kat finds herself caught up in the mystery of her next-door neighbour's death. When one of Kat's wards disappears, the neighbour's cat agrees to help her find the missing animal, at a price - solve the neighbour's murder.

The first chapter left me feeling somewhere between irritated and completely annoyed. A person responsible for pets should not thrust them upon just anyone. Kat was unqualified to take care of the cats (she describes herself as a dog person and doesn't even have a dog) and unwilling to take them in. Meanwhile, the "owner" is travelling around the world carefree. Later in the book, If you love your pets, you will provide better care for them. A professional sitter in sittu comes to mind, or at least a cat kennel.

With that rant dispensed, I liked the book, but it missed my mystery tickle spot. Kat seemed to know as much about being a detective as she did being a cat sitter. I did not guess the solution, but it made sense, and it seemed like the author played fair with the clues. I didn't click with anyone in the story except for the ex-police officer. Now a story with him as a detective - that would be a good one.

Normally I'd say if you like cats and cosies, this might be your thing. But I love both, and it was not a good match for me.

Cute, Fun Read, Good start for the series!!!

Kat is tricked by her best friend to taking in and taking care of her friend's three cats - Luna, Zaira, and Lola in her house while her friend is traveling abroad. Kat is a dog person and has no experience dealing with cat at all so this is a learning curve for her. Rose Hastings, Kat's neighbor in the block, has died, polices assume that Rose died from heart attack but Kat's elderly next door neighbor, Mrs Higgins, thinks it's a murder.

Kat is electrocuted when she unplug her toaster with wet hand, after she gain conscious she find that she can understand and talk to cats, with the surprise and confusion Kat is slammed into the door and is knocked unconscious again for the 2nd time. While Kat is unconscious Rusty, Rose's cat, has come into the house but Lola is missing, Rusty offer to help find Lola in exchange that Kat has to solve Rose's murder. Sooooo the fun begins!!!

This book is a fun, light heart cozy mystery, it is full of humor, fast-paced mystery that flows well and keeps you entertained as you try to figure out the mystery. I enjoy the book and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you Booksirens.

This book was really cute. I'll admit that I decided to try it because I like the cats, I have cats and the premise of a character that can talk to cats was intriguing.

Kat lives in a small town so when her neighbor is murdered, everyone notices. After an accident, Kat can suddenly talk to and understand cats, more importantly, the dead lady's cat, Rusty. Rusty wants her murder solved so Kat is tasked with trying to figure out who did it.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a quick read, I think it took me two hours. I love the idea of being able to understand what cats are saying. It had funny moments as well and I could totally see in my mind the reactions the cats were having as they were interacting with her.

If I had any kind of suggestion it might be to add a few twists to it, I was able to figure it out fairly easily. Otherwise, I am very much excited to see more stories about Kat and her ability to communicate with cats and solve mysteries.

On the Trail of a Murderer . . .

Kat was unfortunately the only one that her best friend could ask for this enormous favor of caring for her three cats while she was out of the country. Kat’s living room, normally pristine, had bags of cat food, kitty litter, and the makings to assemble a cat tree. Kat held her phone to show her friend each of the cat’s while they video-chatted so she could at least get their names. Luna, Zaira, and Lola were her new roommates and life became so much more difficult.

One of her neighbors, Rose Hastings is murdered. Kat has an accident with her toaster and wakes up suddenly able to understand the cats! Rusty, Mrs. Hastings’ cat, is demanding that Kat find the killer! Now she has her first murder to investigate! Although it doesn’t seem like there is much to laugh about, you will enjoy this craziness! Grab your copy and see if Kat can find out who murdered Rose Hastings. And will Kat ever get peace and quiet now that she can chat with the cats?

Princess Fuzzypants here: Being a red tabby Maine Coon I love books with kitties as the main characters. I am especially fond of cats who, like the entire species, do not suffer fools gladly and speak their minds. In fact, a little snark goes a long way when dealing with humans.
It is a joy when human Kat discovers he can talk to cats and they talk back. Rusty, the cat, needs her help. His human has been murdered and he needs Kat to suss out the killer. Kat is naturally reluctant and with good reason. She is not a natural sleuth. In fact, once all the information is before her, she, unlike me, could not detect the real villain. Pfft!
That was the only weakness in the story. Kat was a bit dense. But I loved the banter back and forth as Rusty “blackmails” her into working for him and it is clear he is not the only cat who is going to get the better of Kat going forward.
She is clearly going to need feline assistance. And Rusty is the cat to give it. Four purrs and two paws up.

Kat, a beautiful housekeeper - no pets to mess it up - has agreed to car for her friends three cats. Now her pristine living room is filled with three cats and all their needs. Such as bags of cat food, kitty litter, and the makings to assemble a cat tree. Kat understood how precious those kitties were and even held video chats with their "Mommy" while she is out of the country.

One of Kats neighbors , Rose Hastings is murdered. And suddenly Kat wakes up able to understand the cats! Rusty, Mrs. Hastings’ cat, is demanding that Kat find the killer! Now she has her first murder to investigate!

While this story line sounds all serious and complicated you will enjoy all the craziness! Grab yourself a copy and see if poor Kat ever finds peace again - can she find the murderer; and will she always talk to cats.

Cute beginning to a new mystery series by Iris Leigh.

Kat reluctantly agreed to take care of her vacationing friend's three cats, Luna, Zaira and Lola, and her life will never be the same... especially after an electrocution event with her toaster that allows her to understand cat speech.

When Kat's neighbor is murdered, the neighbor's cat Rusty convinces her to find out who did it in exchange for his helping her find Lola who went missing while Kat was unconscious from the toaster accident. A bit farfetched you might say, but Kat takes it all in good stride and, with encouragement from another neighbor, starts to investigate potential suspects.

All good fun with a happy ending. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of TABBY TROUBLE (Book 1 of the Cat Aunt Cozy Mysteries), by Iris Leigh, in exchange for an honest review. Kat doesn’t quite understand how she ended up cat sitting for her best friend. Kat’s still adjusting to having cats when she suffers three more shocks: her neighbor dies under suspicious circumstances, her toaster zaps her into unconsciousness, and she can suddenly understand what the cats are saying. When the deceased neighbor’s tabby blackmails Kat into investigating the death as a possible murder, Kat finds herself getting to know her neighbors on an entirely different level.

This was a short book designed for those who like cats and cozy murder mysteries.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing/author for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a new author for me. This appears to be the first in a new series. This is a short (less than 100 pages) cozy mystery. I found this book to be a bit confusing. One day you can not talk or understand cats and then suddenly you can and you don't have any questions or concerns? What does Kat do for a living? She never seems to go anywhere. Very odd. She lets one of her friend's cats out and doesn't go hunt for it? What kind of friend does that? The mystery was sort of obvious. Her methods were laughable. I liked the cat angle but this just didn't really work for me. 2.5 stars

A fun cozy mystery and a great start to a new series. Kat is tricked by her friend into taking care of her 3 cats while she’s away. While toasting a bagel for breakfast, washing up some dishes, and being distracted by the cats, Kat manages to electrocute herself touching the toaster with her wet hands. When she comes to, she is astonished to find that the cats are talking to her - and she understands them! This slight bit of magic or paranormal lends a cute and often funny addition to the story, making for a very enjoyable read! While I enjoy the concept of talking cats, there was very little substance to this story in the way of character of plot development.

Our heroine, Kat, has been asked to look after her friend's 3 cats while she is away. We are not told for how long, but as this is a series, I expect it is for awhile. Kat discovers to her regret that she can talk to the cats, because all they seem to do is complain about her behaviour and her slowness to feed them.

When the neighbour is murdered at a coffee get together, her cat, Rusty, appears at Kat's house and tells her he will tell her where her friend's missing cat is if she catches the person who killed his owner.

Tabby Trouble: A Cat Aunt Cozy Mystery Book 1 by Iris Leigh. This is such a fun book. Kat’s best friend is out of the country and left her three cats with her. When neighbor Rose Hastings died, her cat, Rusty, came to Kat’s house and after an electrocution from her toaster, Kat could understand “cat” language. Let the fun begin. A murder to investigate, a missing cat and lots of cat drama. Tabby Trouble is a laugh out loud cozy. Can’t wait to read book 2 in the series. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Purr-fect pace for a Cozy Mystery. Rusty and his fellow felines don't do too much more than encourage Kat to do the detective work as Mrs. Higgins carefully nudges her on the right way to find a neighbor's murderer. Except for Rusty and the two humans, everyone but the killer thinks she died a natural death. Get to know the people and places in Kat's neighborhood as the mystery is solved. I was a bit disappointed to find out that I had picked out the killer very early on.

I loved this book. Although it was a cozy murder mystery, the characters in the book, both gunman and feline, were a breath of fresh air. This book was funny, entertaining, just the right length, and had a great ending. Although I received this book for free as an advance reader, my review is voluntary and heartfelt. Iris did a great job with this cozy mystery and I look forward to reading more of these books from her.

A truly delightful beginning to a new series (for me).

I'm glad I decided to give this series a look see! It was very entertaining and enjoyable. I loved the story line and the idea of talking to cats. This is a series I'll definitely continue to follow. All the characters are interesting. Especially the feline ones! I do hope Rusty continues to be involved in this series. He's a great cat!
