After heading to the city for a weekend of fun, Kenya Lattimore and her best friend find themselves in a heap of trouble. And the money that they borrowed at the casino, is now coming back to haunt them. But when it's clear to Kenya that her best friend isn't up to the task of paying the money back, she offers to do so herself. Alone . Not her brightest idea, considering the man they owe is enemies with her best friend's older brother. But...he's also her childhood crush. And she's hoping that the guy she remembers from her school days, the one who used to give her butterflies, is still there. Buried deep inside the ill-tempered, businessman she offers to belong to.
Matteo Costa sees an opportunity to deal with his enemy once and for all, when his little sister and her best friend take his money. But then, the best friend offers to work the money off herself. And curiosity gets the better of him, so he agrees. But somewhere in the midst of her paying him back, things gets personal. And he can't deny the protective instinct that stirs inside of him when it comes to her, among other feelings. But being that she's only with him to pay off her debt, he tries to do the right thing by not giving into the heat between them. But he can only do so for so long. And when he finally gives in, neither of them can deny how strong their feelings are for one another.
But when drama, and other outside forces, threaten their life together. The two of them use their stubbornness to fight for everything they've built. And when all is said and done, what remains is something beautiful. Something that'll make anyone believe in happily ever after.
I made it to 37% and I am struggling to finish. Kenya is plucking my nerve and making me want to make her disappear. Her attitude is beyond irritating like, I don't get her, why is she dense and reminding me of a petulant teen. I am going to try to finish but this one is a hard read for me and I love this authors style. Matteo needs more of a presence in the book, Kenya is going to make me drink.
After Kenya and her best friend make a dumb mistake, she offers to work for a mob boss to pay off their debt, and from there and romance blossoms.
After reading a sample of this, I was intrigued and hoping for something really interesting. I didn’t quite get that. I actually loved Matteo and wished more of the book would’ve been in his point of view. He was overly territorial but I enjoyed him immensely. Now our heroine Kenya? She drove me nuts! She spent most of the book acting like a petulant child and it drove me nuts. I’m not sure if this was to show her age (she’s 20) or what but it was annoying. Even when she was right in her feelings, her actions were dumb. Also, other than to set up why she would make this offer to pay him back, there was no real need to have Matteo be in the mob. As much as he references all the things he’ll do, we never see him follow through. Outside of setting up the situation and some confrontation he could’ve been a businessman and it would’ve read the same. I think I would’ve felt differently if we could’ve had less sex scenes (it was like every few pages and I started skimming those scenes after awhile), and more Matteo the mob boss scenes.
I say all this to say it wasn’t a bad story in the least, it just didn’t really do it for me. Still give it a chance, you may think differently.
I must be honest. I struggled to finish this book. The storyline has great promise but h acted like a bratty teenager throughout the entire book. She's a young twenty something but behaves like a 16 year old child. I think this is a fairly new author. She definitely has promise but she needs an editor and proofreader. The book drags because the h is so annoying. She is so immature I found it hard to believe the H was attracted to her. I assumed due to the length of the book she would mature. However, she did not. In addition, the constant sex scene begain to seem like filler to increase the page count. I will visit this author's works again but I think I will let her get a few more books published.
I enjoyed this book. I love a strong alpha with a sensitive side. I liked Matteo more than Kenya. She was quite spoiled and a little immature. There were some misspelled and words in the wrong places. A proofreader could have spotted and cleared up. I hoped Leo would get his own story, fingers crossed!
I love all your books. I usually love the women in your books. I liked kenya in the beginning but she soon became annoying. It was pathetic how she keep throwing herself at him when he wouldn't go all the way. I get that she is young & a virgin but she was so immature & whiny. Virgin doesn't have to mean childish especially in this day & age. Her being so petulant made it seem almost inappropriate that he was sleeping with her much less getting her pregnant. She came off like a bratty little sister. I loved matteo & Leo. I hope we get the Stacey, Luca & Marco story.
I have read all of D. Scott's available books on Amazon and while Personal Assistant is still my favorite, this book is a close second. When Kenya and her friend Ava take money from Matteo's casino, Kenya offers to work the money off. Matteo agrees. He is a mob boss but also a gentleman and doesn't ask for sexual favors. They soon fall in love but he doesn't take it to the next level until later in the book.....and then they have sex so much that I worried about them😁😁... This was a good story.... They fussed a lot but it was also sweet.
I liked this story. The characters were well put together. My only issue is the grammatical/editorial errors or else it world be 5 stars. It kinda made some things difficult to read and I'd have to go back and re-read a sentence or paragraph. It was frustrating. But I'd love to hear Leo's story or at least more background. Frankie & Naomi are interesting too.
I liked the length of this book and also the characters in this book! Matteo and Kenya were perfect for each other, and I liked know that some of the other characters got their happy ever after. I jyst wished that Frankie did also, but it was implied that he just may get his happy, he deserves it! Thanks for a great book Ms. Scott!
When I stumbled on D Scott's work, I fell in love with the stories. I was so excited when I saw this release and it did not disappoint! D Scott always delivers the good stuff.
This could have been a great read and a lot shorter if there wasn’t so many unnecessary love scenes. This made the book almost unreadable but I paid my money for it so I was going to finish reading it.
Mafia boss with no mafia like action. Disappointing
This book had the potential to be a good book. Once Kenya lost her virginity almost every page was the couple having sex. Because of that this book had no substance.
I absolutely loved this story. I had two of my sister's read it also agreeing the length and content kept us laughing and talking for days. Can't wait for the next one.
A Very Good and Erotic Interracial Romantic Comedy
Compromise is a very good and erotic interracial romantic comedy that earned a rating of four stars. I found the love story of Mateo Costas and Kayla to be sensual and humorous considering he had her kidnapped for stealing money from him with her best friend. They had a lot of obstacles to overcome to find their happy ever after and I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading very good romantic comedies.
