Marriage Reconciliation Romance

SANTI
My wife cheated on me, but I won't let her go.
So when I’m challenged to see a mechanic to fix our marriage, I give it a shot.
The problem? Doc tells me all the things I don’t want to hear.
But I’m certain my marriage failing isn’t my fault.
After all, I’m the perfect husband. Ashley is the nightmare.
I need to convince the mechanic to fix my wife.
If not, what’s left of our crumbling marriage will fall apart and nothing will be able to save it.

ASHLEY
I cheated on my husband and fell in love with someone else.
But my lover went back to his wife.
And now my husband can’t decide if he loves me, hates me or wants to punish me.
This is no fairytale but if it was, I’d be the villain.
So when Santi starts seeing Doc and makes changes to fix our marriage, I can’t believe it’s real.
After all, who wants to love the woman who messed up?
I’m done with relationships, but Santi isn’t taking no for an answer.
Can Doc rescue a marriage that’s so far gone? Or will I end up like the villains in the fairytales—defeated and alone?

COVER ME is a gritty, BWWM marriage reconciliation romance that dives deep into the gutter of betrayal, broken trust and affairs. Note that Doc's principles do not change because the woman is the one who is unfaithful. Please proceed with caution.

I find the author and her father's concepts about marriage and relationships interesting--using the bible without faith seems odd, but they make it work to a point. With this book, I feel they've missed the mark.

I get the whole the husband is the foundation and the mirror analogy that she reflects back what she receives. But here, in this book, after reading the first 2 in the series, I'm left thinking, that yes, she is a reflecting back at him his behavior, but she's also incredibly selfish, manipulative and had zero issue being the OW while she and her husband were on a "break". As a reader, I got tired of her acknowledging she's always been a villain. It felt like a copout, and let's be honest, she is one of the villains in a cheating relationship. Jerrison was the cheater, but Ashley pushed hard for him to leave his wife and start a life with her while she was still married to Santi, and that made her just as responsible in the relationship.

Why Harriet or Santi were fighting so hard to save their relationships is beyond me. They may not have been perfect, but their spouses weren't worth fighting for.

Just like book one in this series I can’t understand why the H wanted to fight for his wife. It baffles me. There was not enough self flagellation/guilt.

Ashley is the girl we love to hate, Santi is the man we love to love

Ashley cheated on her husband and had no regrets about it. Without Doc's principles anyone would think that she deserves for Santi to leave her, she made her bed and now needs to lie in it. Plus her attitude in the beginning was a huge turn off. Santi, for reasons he doesn't even realize, lives his wife unconditionally. Even though he doesn't know how to deal with the hurt if Ashley cheating on him, he knows without a doubt that he wants his wife. Doc's principles were hard for Santi to grasp but he definitely benefited from them.

Great! Ashley and Santi are in a struggle to decide whether to save or end their tumultuous marriage. They must confront issues related to in-laws, infidelity (wife), selfishness, and immaturity. Will this marriage stay on the rocks or travel the road of recovery?

This book has very good writing, realistic martial issues, and an engaging storyline. It starts off with a BANG! The chapters alternate between both the husband's and wife's POV. I like the Doc character and his wisdom. The romantic interlude was tastefully done and occurs mostly off-page. This is a first time read of the author and the guest author (her father), but it will not be the last!

🌷Book Quotes:

"We always brought out the worst in each other."

"Can a love that started so sweetly really boil down to something this ugly?"

"There are many doors inside a person’s heart. And each time you function from a place of love, a door is opened.”

*Note: I read the current cover edition which is in color. The first cover is in black and white with same author/title here on Goodreads. There are additional reviews/ratings listed under the first cover edition.

Santiago and Ashley- He covered her

All of Nia and Doc’s books are wonderful and thought provoking. All marriages could use and put into practice the advice in these books. A GOOD husband is the head of the home and the protector of his wife.
Forgiveness is hard whether it is the husband that cheats or the wife…although it is unusual for the wife to cheat, there is a reason for it … the partnership is missing a key ingredient and that is what Doc’s life lessons did for Santiago and Ashley….even the hard love for Santiago’s mom that he had to handle. Ashley’s father was a horrible role model but she loved him…that was her only male role model she had and he was a horrible father and husband.
I can’t wait to read Value Me….Patrick, Jerrison’s partner, is in for a shake up.

AWESOME

Oh my! I really enjoyed this book and it so easily stole my heart. There's a powerful combination of passion and drama that will fuel your heart. The characters are captivating, this family is so amazing and their saddest will make you sad but their happiness is pure perfection. The story is so beautiful and sad, when you add in their family drama, along with their emotions about their love and the intriguing twists their family put them through you have a tale that's truly delightful." Plus their friends are so supportive that it just worked so well together that I couldn't help but enjoyed their story along with how the relationship is built is awesome. This is definitely another Nia Authurs great story to read.

Covered

Let me start by saying I've read the books in the Love Repair and Doc Exclusives series but this was the only one to bring me to tears. The moment between Santi, his mother and Ashley where he chose her, in that moment I understood the title of the book. Ashley felt seen, protected, heard and loved, she was Covered. Thank you Nia and Slyburn this series was real and needed! 💜 If you're not afraid to read about life and it's many trials, give this book/series a chance. You just might feel something, learn something or both.

I wasn't prepared....😳

I started this book expecting to continue my dislike of Ashley. Well I was wrong... I have a clearer understanding of why she chose to the the path she took. It isn't black and white, but a WHOLE lot of gray. I don't want to spoil it for you, but trust and believe there is more to the story. The actions taken stem from deep rooted familial lessons.

Ashley & Santi

This is such a good story. I really changed my view on Ashley after this book. I never condone cheating but she is remorseful. Santi is such a likeable character ao glad he fixed his marriage with the help of Doc.

Has more substance to why there were issues in the marriage

Did not think I would enjoy reading this book it understand why Ashley cheated. However, the book surprised me. Reading the book have me a little understanding of Ashley. She was vulnerable and believed her .marriage was over. I still don't accept this justifies what she did. She whether to take a husband away from his wife and was brazen in her actions. Jerrison paying for her father's rehAb pushed her into falling in love with him. His gesture felt to her that he cared - when in actuality he did not. His paying for the rehab was a means to an end. What Ashley failed to take I to account was that if he had left Harriet for her he would have have ended up cheating on Ashley as well. This book gave us an opportunity to learn more about her and understand to degree her motivation - though her reasoning was impaired. I thought the reason I disliked Respect so much is the Jerrisons' unrepentant attitude towards Harriet and is patent lack of respect and understanding. Sure his father cheated. I am not a psychiatrist so cannot comment how that affected is pysche. Even be said his father kept his cheating separate. Jettison on the other hand cheated Brighton front of his wife where her friends and others can see and in her home as well as using their resources on these women but did not do same for his mistresses.

Another Doc’s Miracle

I give this book 5 stars because it’s well written, … cheating is hard for me to swallow.
To me, Ashley didn’t really cheat on Santi, her husband, they were separated per her husband’s request, so that one is on him. Could she hold on, and wait until they divorce… well it’s debatable. He never kept in touch for a whole year. My issue with her is her disregard for Harriet, even after she met her and put a face on the “evil” wife that Jerrison was describing… she was ready and pushing him to leave his wife for her and she had zero remorse until later when she got back with her husband and when she was talking to the blonde model, who lost her husband to her best friend, she felt a little shame. When she finally felt remorse was when she got back with her husband… 🙄 I understand, she was vulnerable and grab at what she thought was love, but what about the wife ?! And Jerrison was the type who would say anything to get what he wanted from a woman… , however, he never hid the fact he was married. Shame on you Ash!!
Santi, good job!!
Doc, you are awesome!!

Ps. Nia, why you never tell us the children’s names ?!

Not for everyone! Spoilers!

Let’s say this book is not for everyone. Although I enjoyed the storyline and and as always Nia delivers and engaging story, but I could not warm up to Ashley. This is a result of my own bias, not that she cheated, but that she knowingly cheated with a married man. Regardless of the lies Jerrison told her she knew he was married and living with his wife. Cardinal rule never do to another woman what you don’t want done to you. Santi was a little more difficult as culturally I understand that sons can do no wrong and are treasured I can sympathize with him in having to make a choice between his wife or other. Although outraged about his wife’s cheating, he never address the fact that he was also willing to cheat but could not follow through with it. I gave it four stars because the story is well written, but I could not connect with the characters. Neither Ashley nor Santi made me want to root for them to stay together or separate my feelings for them were blah.

I'm so mad right now *spoiler

I love the author I loved the first 2 books but let me tell you I HATE ASHLEY with all of my heart. Santiago totally deserved better it's not even that she cheated that made me mad it was the way she wanted to divorce and then insult him over and over and then play the victim shes the most weak fmc I've ever read which is surprising because I read the first 2 books and Harriet, the fmc in those books, was so strong. Ashley was just ugly inside and out and I'm crying right now because of it. Like I've never read an fmc where I truly hated until this one and doc pissed me off just blaming Santiago and not Ashley. Santiagos mom was speaking facts. He should've divorced her. Nia Arthurs besides that I love your other books I just hated this one

Apples and Pears

I absolutely loved this book. I love that they took a look at a man who thought he was doing everything right, not realizing that he was giving someone pairs because he loves them, instead of listening to them say they love apples. This book was a joy to read and gave me some great ideas for the couples that I work with in sessions. Doc has the right idea. The manual is better than any textbook I have ever read in school. Santiago and Ashley are on the right road. It was really nice to delve into the trauma response that Ashley was living rather than write her off in a stereotypical fashion. This is incredibly well written and I deeply insightful story.

Not what I expected

I was hesitant to start this book. Normally I’m reading them as soon as they come out but after reading the previous book in this collection I had my opinion formed of the female lead in this book. I gave this book 5 stars because it proves that all is not what it appears to be. And I was pleasantly surprised by the context; and dear I say a little ashamed of how I passed judgment on the FL before knowing the full story. Everyone’s perspective is different and you should never pass judgment without knowing the entire story..

How many times can i say this your stories are so good , although this one was even better, what man gives his wife permission to see other men an then get mad when she does it. mon in law problems is a lot the cause of marriages breaking up. moms feeling that they are still number one in the sons life and giving the wife no respect in her home at all with no suport from the husbad.(brings back bad memories for me). anyway another hit for me. ready for more from you.

Dynamite!!!

I despised Ashley so much as she played a huge part in Jerrison's story. I almost didn't read this book because of it, but I'm so glad I pushed my reservations aside. Doc and his dispensation of the marriage principles is the man. Santi and Ashley had to face some hard truths. One click this book and read their journey. I'm really, really looking forward to Patrick and Lizzette's story

Santi and Ashley

This was okay. The thing I like is these weren't wealthy prior. They were working class people who had serious issues in their marriage.

Ashley had an affair, but her husband had actually gave her that permission while he was being an a-hole.

I finished this book, but it took several days because I wasn't really engaged in this story as much.

Any book that I read through gets 4 stars because I at least finished it even if it's not a favorite.

A Mature Foundation

Ashley and Santiago were fighting for survival. Ashley not only cheated but fell in love with him.
Santiago opened the door for the betrayal but he also found the tools to repair his relationship.
Doc's message may have been unconventional but it opened the door to a life of happiness.
Nia's stories have value. It's a must read.

Loved it!

I always enjoy your 2nd chance at marriage books and this one is no different. It made me think about myself and ways to make my 2nd time around last. Even after the divorce, I still believe in love and marriage. I am waiting on Kadijah’s story next. I hope it’s coming soon! Keep these books coming … it’s good stuff.

These three books in this little series were so different from the other books. In that series I felt like the men could be controlling and so were jerks in that way, but not to the extent that the men in this series were. Like happy for their growth and all, but goodness they were not wonderful people to start.

Well

Because I didn’t like Ashley for going out with Jerrison fully aware he was married literally put me off her. Well the husband still loved her including the crack head dad now that one hell of determination in building a family. Although my concern hasn’t changed.

What's Up, Doc?

Santiago Castillo was an angry man. He provided for his wife Ashley. He never hit her. He never cheated on her. He thought he was a good husband. Then why did Ashley cheat? And despite everything, why did Santi still want his wife?

I Got It...

I got what the issues were in this story. And I agree with the outcome. I liked it better than the first 2 books ( just my personal preference). I enjoy doc's analogy's most of the time. But some are a little hard to interpret.

Good story

This was a good story. Patrick was a selfish guy who didn't value his vows or wife. Amir was a Son who was tired of his mother being mistreated. I'm happy Lizette got to know herself again and stood her ground.
I can't wait for the second part of the story.

Thank was good

It was hard for me to have Ashley's back in the beginning, after her involvement with Harriet and Jerrison, and Santiago's temper was something else, but he was ultimately pretty amazing. I even grew to understand Ashley and enjoyed their journey and growth.
