TJ wanted a quiet life spent with his women and wine, but such idyllic dreams remain out of reach. The New Order’s revolt in Ardsville has been quelled, but that doesn’t mean his enemies are gone for good.
Freshly minted as Count Skyridge, TJ is ordered to head north and embark upon the King’s quest. Knowing only that it’s likely to be deceptively challenging and time consuming, TJ enlists the help of his ladies and everyone’s favorite murder kitty to meet the King’s demands. Between getting Serina’s new religion off the ground, getting his house in order, mastering his magic, missteps with the local nobility, and managing the fallout from the revolt, he’s got his hands full.
Join TJ on this riveting adventure that spans multiple worlds and help him discover the secrets of the Devas as he struggles to survive and fulfill his oaths.
Joe travels the world each week as a tech mercenary defending the mega-corporations of tomorrow from hackers. He's got over 20 years in the IT field, much of it centered around security and cutting edge technology. In his spare time he plays video games and reads far too many pulpy books that either involve the world going to heck, characters with with complicated love lives, or a bit of both at the same time.
Spoilers within: I want to start this review by saying that I like the series and I think it has real potential even though this is going to be fairly critical. I think there are a couple relatively large issues in this book, the first one being that theres essentially no relevant characters besides the main family. Only 3 new characters really in the whole book with Elora, Holly, and Kriv. Theres no context or personality to antagonists, political rivals, trade partners nothing they are all essentially faceless and only briefly mentioned. My second problem with the book is why I think the first issue is so prevalent, it really gets bogged down in magical theory and research in a very single minded way to the detriment of the rest of the book. There aren't new and interesting characters even minor ones popping up and the story really stalls from that. And my last problem is TJ is just incredibly incompetent in the last 1/3rd of the book, just assuming that he'll be saved and this mass poisoning will be healed in seconds without him there, cutting the assassins arm off like 3 times but still not taking control of his deadly whip?? Just a bunch of weird decisions. Still a good base for the story and I wish the author the best of luck and hope the series does well, but i think these are real issues that aren't specific to just my reading tastes.
Excellent book (as good as book 1). What's especially interesting is the MC's evolution (from start in #1): from a drinker, womanizer (if not pimp)... into a superpowered half-god delivering retribution to villains.
Now, what's happening with Joe Kuster (too busy to keep on writing???).
The end of Book 2 clearly mandates a book 3 that did not happen for the past 2 years. Hope will come soon (it's frustrating to read excellent series - also thinking of Mike Truk's T4 - controversial but outstanding in my view- that fail to proceed to their end)
The lighthearted stakes of the first novel have fully transitioned until a much more serious series of situations in this second volume. Its still slice of life, but the action is picking up and the characters are all growing into their expanded roles. I love this author and his intricate stories are so chock full of indie author references its a Easter egg all on its wrong.
Read through book 1 and 2 in just a few days. I didn’t want to put them down. This is a great book 2. The world is opening up. The writing is great, with no editing issues. The characters are great and I really enjoy all of the little references to other worlds, genres, and tropes. They are done extremely well and leave me with a big smile every time. If you haven’t read the first grab all of them and get reading.
Cannot wait for book 3. The saga gets more involved and our hero has to work harder and harder to keep ahead of the gods trying to stop him. He has his triumphs, but has losses too, like Rachel losing their baby just after conception. It serves to make him a more worthy foe and his wrath will be terrible to those arrayed against him.
4.5 stars. Still really good, but to me it felt a bit unfocused in comparison to the first one. If I had to put my finger on it, it seemed to not move the whole story forward as much as I thought it should have. Still, great characters and a good read. I'm looking forward to book 3.
Was wondering if there was going to be a 2nd book and this popped up on one of my lists so I had to read it right away and it did not disappoint. Now I can’t wait for the next one.
I really enjoyed this story. It was well written and had a good story line. The MC is developing nicely but is not op. Which is nice. Also, the female characters are power houses in their own right and are integral part of the team.
I had been trying to read three different books but kept putting them down because they couldn't hold my interest. Thank goodness the second Lightfoot book came out. Fully engrossing and another fine story.
Fun read and the MC and his cast of ladies make this a ride to be on. Add in his homicidal cat and you have a great book. Definitely looking forward to the next one. Can’t come soon enough.
Lots of action and a plot that moves like lightning. A ton of excellent moments and progression. The mc has a lot going for him but he’s not op for the situation. Try it out:)
A good combination of world building, relationships with good dialogue, and magical action. The plot moves forward at a good pace and is not too predictable. Hoping the series continues.
Great story with believable characters and in-depth look into different kinds of magic. And of course powerful sexy women running around all over the place lol.
