About the author

本名夏目金之助，1867年出生於東京。1893年自東京帝國大學英文系畢業。1899年赴英國留學三年，專攻十八世紀英國文學，回國後開始文學創作。1905年發表了長篇小說《我是貓》，大受好評並一舉成名。

夏目漱石自幼學習漢文，對東西方的文化均有很高造詣，其作品風格更融合東西方文化的精華，在日本近代文學史上享有崇高地位，被稱為「國民大作家」。代表作有《我是貓》、《少爺》、《虞美人草》、《三四郎》、《心》等。1916年因胃潰瘍惡化辭世，享年四十九歲。
