An Amazon exclusive! In this romantic comedy mystery, a young woman discovers that life is like an elevator--just be sure to get off on the right floor.
Hello. My name is Virginia, although I live in Georgia… Atlanta, to be precise. Two years ago I happily clutched my degree in Hospitality Management, smug with the knowledge that I would always have job security because no matter what, people would always travel, right? And then the pandemic happened. It’s hard to complain about losing my job in the midst of so much tragedy, but it came on the heels of a bad breakup, and being partially abandoned by my nomad parents. I was shook.
Thank goodness the economy is starting to reopen, but because so many hotels have closed permanently, there are three people for every hospitality job available, and I don’t have enough seniority to even warrant an interview. So when I heard of an opening at a historic hotel in Midtown that’s allegedly haunted, I showed up in person to beg for the job. I naively told the eccentric owner I’d do anything… and that’s how I wound up being an Elevator Girl.
What’s an Elevator Girl? Stay tuned, friends, for the story. There are ghosts, an unsolved murder, and some of the most oddball guests imaginable. Oh, and the mind-bending secret I stumbled upon in the basement. In between I spend a LOT of time riding up and down, wondering where my life went wrong and how I can get off this ride. _________________________
USA TODAY bestselling author Stephanie Bond was seven years deep into a systems engineering career and pursuing an MBA at night when an instructor remarked that she had a flair for writing and suggested that she submit to academic journals. But Stephanie, a voracious reader, was only interested in writing fiction–more specifically, romantic fiction.
Upon completing her master’s degree and with no formal training in writing (her undergraduate degree is in computer programming), she started writing a romance novel in her spare time. Two years later in 1995 she sold her first manuscript, a romantic comedy, to Harlequin Books.
In 1997, with ten sales under her belt to two publishers, Stephanie left her corporate job to write women’s romantic fiction full-time. In 2011,
Stephanie launched a self-publishing business. Since that time, she has sold more than 1 million copies of her own books. To-date, Stephanie has published over 70 novels and has over 6 million copies of her work in worldwide distribution in numerous languages and formats.
This is part 2 of 6 part daily serial, part two is month of August.
Loving the concept of this daily serial, “What's an Elevator Girl? Stay tuned, friends, for the story. There are ghosts, an unsolved murder, and some of the most oddball guests imaginable. Oh, and the mind-bending secret I stumbled upon in the basement. In between I spend a LOT of time riding up and down, wondering where my life went wrong and how I can get off this ride.”
I’m literally hooked, only part two but it is already addictive reading, such a great crazy story. Story is easy to keep up with, great characters and full on entertaining. There’s even a few laugh out loud moments.
I love that they are short, quick reads, heading straight into part 3 which is the month of September.
Elevator Girl is a daily serial and is a book written in daily segments. Book 2 is the month of August. Virginia is down on her luck and needs a job. She finally finds one working at the Coronado Hotel as an Elevator Girl. The hotel is a1970's themed hotel with financial problems. The owner, Otis, is trying to revive it and there was an Elevator Girl from the past named Eloise who was murdered. Virginia starts asking questions and looks around and learns some interesting things about the hotel which leads to time travel and ghosts. It is a bit fanciful but fun and intriguing. Quite enjoyable!
This is so cool! I can’t put these books down. I’ll probably read all 6 in one sitting.
My opinions: When Virginia inserted herself into 1971, she actually alters time. Then somehow she brought a piece back to current day (phone number from Alec). It’s all really neat.
Maybe she'll see her grandparents. Maybe she'll fall in love with Alec and decide to stay.
She may be able to also change the death of Eloise, but she must be careful because she may take Eloise's place as the one murdered.
Virginia returns to the present time and meets a horror author who is staying at the hotel. The case involving Eloise is being reopened. Things get more complicated when Virginia uses the time travel elevator again and Eloise sees her.
It appears things are going to get more complicated.
I like the book. It's unusual, has interesting characters and involves a mystery. It'll be interesting to see where things go from here.
Continuing the saga of Virginia and Eloise from part one has been just as interesting as the first installment. I love the way Bond builds a story and adds new details to move things along. Not everyone can write short stories in an effective way without shortchanging the characters, but Bond does it beautifully.
I love this series! It’s hard to wait for the next installment. The author paints a vivid picture for the current time and the 70’s. For a light reading this is your ticket. Quick and intriguing. Can’t wait for the next one!
The chronology of her books is intriguing. Jack Terry seems to find his way into most of them. That he is wearing a wedding ring in this one makes me f Glad that I have already read the body movers 12.
For those that do not believe in afterlife, this will be a hard suspend belief and just enjoy the ride. The storyline is interesting to me. The time travel aspect always intrigues me. The 70's were a bit crazy. Will see how this ends up.
Only the 2nd in the series and I'm so hooked! Waiting for Book 3, so many questions! Will the Coronado be saved? Who killed Eloise? Will Virginia follow her heart to the Way back Lounge again to Alec?
So glad I learned my lesson from Coma Girl and have disciplined myself to read only "today's" entry and not finishing the entire month by Day 3. I only have to wait until tomorrow. This might be my favorite series so far!!
Bond’s books are always fun to read with clever plots. I love all the serials she’s done and always look forward to see what new ideas she’s come up with. Elevator Girl does not disappoint.
Great follow up to the first! We're finding out more about the murder that happened many years ago and the ghost that's haunting the hotel. Onto the next one!
