Riveting

This is a saga of the Deschanel family of New Orleans. The father dies and the mother is left raising 7 children, each with special abilities. Since the father died, there is no one to guide these children in how to handle their "gift". This makes for a rollercoaster of ups, downs, and twists in the story of each child. This is not the usual magical person story. The books are not so much about the magic, but more of each child's emotions and how maturing affected them. I do not normally buy books, as I get many free. I bought the whole series and thoroughly enjoyed reading them. I highly recommend this series.

Book 7 in The Seven series

Witches and Warlocks make up an entire family that's in a constant state of crisis/survival mode. This dark fantasy is filled with conflict, growing pains, loss, sorrow, abuse, alcoholism, strong language, and spice. Be sure to check the trigger warnings before reading. The book is built in a detailed world with strong characters who grow/change throughout.

A lot can happen in 10 years within 1 family.

"It's nothing. Or maybe it's everything."
"Ten years was both a whisper across time and an eternity."
"For The Seven."

Author Sarah M. Cradit has masterfully created a rich, sordid backstory for her main Deschanel characters who filled pages and hearts in the author’s House of Crimson and Clover series. 1980: The Seven is the series wrap-up, and it cannot be read as a standalone. Each of the seven books primarily focuses on one of the Deschanel siblings during their teen and young adult years.

In this final book, I truly felt Irish Colleen’s age and weariness. She is old beyond her years. I definitely felt the passage of time from Irish Colleen’s tired resignation. Her worry for her children is palpable. Her fractured relationships with Evangeline & Elizabeth broke my heart, so I greatly appreciated one of the daughter’s small acknowledgement of her mother’s good intentions and efforts.

Ms. Cradit’s research efforts are evident in all her books. She thoroughly studies locations as well as historic detail. Her pop culture references for the 1970-1980 decade are great! From new sports trends to new power sources, she sends her readers through a time machine. With each page I was increasingly delighted to find links to the Deschanel siblings' future. Fans of her House of Crimson and Clover series will relish the superb foreshadowing that Ms. Cradit built into 1980. The strings of the siblings’ storylines are woven together setting their path for the future. They each had trials and tribulations that made them or broke them.

“You cannot change the future, Elizabeth Sullivan. You can embrace it. You can live.”

I really enjoyed each book in this series. Both the character analysis and “prequel” storyline are great.

And so we come to the end of another era. This series was so good that it makes me want to go back and read the Crimson & Clover series all over again. This particular book seemed shorter than some of the preceding ones, but it was no less powerful or compelling. I had developed some sympathy for Charles, but now I'm back to seeing him as a monster. However, Cordelia surprised me, though let's not forget, she is still a monster. Angelique? Wow! There's a scene with Elizabeth and Connor that absolutely floored me. I did not see that coming and it was amazing. I'm glad Elizabeth has found at least some peace in light of the fatal future she has seen. Augustus found his perfect mate in Barbara. Sweet. Colleen and Noah. Aww. Evangeline. Yay! Maureen. How can one person survive such heartbreak? They've all experienced some tragic events, but Maureen stands out for the unrelenting punishments she received despite her efforts to be good. The little ones are coming into their powers, which will become especially important in later books. This is a good wrap up of an era in the lives of the Deschanels. I'm sad for it to end, but it's a natural conclusion so there's no need to drag things out just to squeeze another book out of it. Sarah Cradit knows how to ride the wave and leave on a high note. That said, I'd still love to read some stories occurring during the interim between this series and Crimson & Clover.

Having read the entire House of Crimson series I was already in love with this dysfunctional group of siblings and their offspring. I must say that reading about them in their young years gives an entirely different perspective. Reading about them isn't easy and Charles, well Charles is Charles at all times even when his darkness comes front and center. Each sibling and the issues that surround them are all tidied up nicely, I have no idea how this author keeps track of it all. Trust me there is no lack of action or mishaps with this group. And while there is a type of peace during the end scene if you have read the series that started it all you know that the peace doesn't last. We even get a glimpse with the appearance of Triston.

This author does a wonderful job of bringing the past to the present and leading them into the Crimson series. You know so much more about this family and it's origin. I loved the emotonal journey of their lives and you will too. You will shed tears only the inhuman wont. You will feel their pains and watch their growth. At the end you will see how and where it leads and you will find yourself diving into the Crimson series and watching how masterfully this author will play you as you meet and fall in love with it all.

I've really enjoyed this series that gives so much insight into the future siblings, what makes them tick, and their motives for decisions.  Like many other reviewers, it makes me want to go back and read the earllier books knowing what I know now.  I also want to warn them about what waits in their futures.  Having the opportunity to see adult characters from later books as children, especially in this last book of The Seven, was delightful, amusing, and, in some cases, heartbreaking.

It's always bittersweet when a series with characters that seem like friends (some of them, anyway) ends, but if I miss them too much, I can always pick up the books again.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.  Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is the final book in the series giving all the background of the lives of the Deschanel siblings before The House of Crimson and Clover series. Some more major incidents occurred that have a lasting effect and shape the events of the following series.

This was well written and very enjoyable. It makes me want to go and re-read the House of Crimson and Clover series now as I feel I would have a better appreciation of the events that befell the Deschanel siblings and their children.

This was so good, a great conclusion for the 1970 series. I loved it. And am excited to move on to the House of Crimson series' . I loved the total evolution of the remaing 6 children of Irish Colleen. Seeing their lives roll from childhood to adulthood as they adapt to the normal challenges as well as those unique to their family line is a great read!

The last installment in this series doesn’t disappoint!!! This journey through time with the Deschanel family has been an amazing roller coaster ride of drama, emotion, love and loss. It’s hard to say goodbye to these characters and their stories.

I was so immersed and invested in this series that I didn't want it to end. I feel like I know them due to Sarah's incredible ability to create characters that virtually live and breathe in our world. I look forward to reading more about this family through other sagas that are promised.
