MAX PARROTT is a cozy mystery author who lives with his beloved golden retriever... who just so happens to be named Luffy. Even though Luffy doesn't help Max solve crimes, he does help him stay amused.
The inseparable duo often enjoy big long walks down the canal where Max reminisces about Luffy's one shot at fame - a close second in Musical Chairs for dogs one wintry Christmas Eve.
If you find someone lying on the floor, in my opinion, you go to see if you can help them. They may have a pulse. May need resuscitation. May need to be put in the recovery position while you investigate. It's also possible, since this tale is set in a rest stop cafe on a road, that there is a gas leak or faulty appliance spewing CO and others would be harmed. Our intrepid sleuth looks over the counter, sees someone on the floor and says oh, he's dead, though there are no visible wounds or weapons, and starts asking people questions about where they were and what they saw. Nobody else wants to administer first aid either. Some social conscience is present and the writing is nice and light, which stops me from giving one star. Take a first aid course. Start by assuming you can help. I read an e-ARC. This is an unbiased review.
This story was not very realistic. A man living in the space above a hung ceiling? It boggles the imagination! The characters were poorly developed and gave the reader nothing to build the characters on. The dog spoke, at least to the main character. Since no one else reacted to it I assumed that there was some sort of supernatural activity involving the main character and the dog. Since there was no explanation I could only conjecture. All In all I did not care for this story. Thankfully it was short.
This was a short, quick story to read. While I do like Max Parrott's books, I've not read any from this series (besides this one). I wouldn't say it's as well done as the others, and it seemed a bit rushed. There were a LOT of grammar and punctuation errors, but not so much that it was unreadable. But all in all, it was a cute story and I'll be reading the first book in this series after a while. I give this a solid 4 stars.
Jasmine and Luffy find themselves in the road and run into a snow storm, only to barely find a rest stop, with a mystery to solve. Who did you what, and how does Jasmine and Luffy figure out what happened?
What a good cozy mystery. I liked the main character, Jaz, and her dog, Luffy. I wish the story was a little longer to build up a little more suspense and get to know the characters more.
This is a short, enjoyable cozy mystery. Jazz and Luffy are likeable characters. it felt a little rushed but it was nice to read a short mystery for a change.
It was short but very engaging. It was perfect for a quick read during a few breaks at my first curling bonspiel. It's well-written and the plot keeps you on your toes.
Cold Case (A Jaz and Luffy Cozy Mystery, #1.5), my twelfth enjoyable mystery read from author Max Parrott. Well-written with intriguing characters and a captivating ongoing storyline that gets better with each book in the series. Somewhat out of order, I just got this book today and read it right away. The principal characters have grown over the course of this series, but this short read served as a pleasant reminder of their very enjoyable beginnings.“I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll definitely be reading more from this author and look forward to the next book in the series.
