3.5 stars. I really wanted to like this book. But I think it would have been more aptly titled "How To Overcome A Little Bit of Worrying". For someone with anxiety disorder like myself, tips like "keep yourself busy" or "repeat a mantra that you can achieve fitness goals" aren't going to cut it. Had the book been about using self-esteem and confidence to get rid of an occasional worry, it would have been 5 stars. My fault for not skimming it first before purchasing! It's not a bad book, but I feel like the title is a misnomer.
as someone who is diagnosed with anxiety and depression, has a therapist, and is trying to get on medication, this was not it. i think if you have general anxious thoughts it could be useful, but for me it was the same thing people tell me that don’t work. “just eat healthy, exercise, get more sleep” “just stop worrying”. the author mentions how unhelpful those things are but doesn’t actually tell you anything useful. this book is trying to help people who are anxious over specific things (like work or relationships). i’m 17 and have never had a job or a relationship. i’m confident and i don’t hate myself or how i look, and this book focuses on how to stop thinking negatively about life, but for people like me who don’t have anxious thoughts about specific things, and instead have a chemical imbalance that just makes me anxious, it was not helpful. again, i think it was meant for a different audience than people like me who have more serious problems, but i still got mad at the author for saying things like (though worded differently) “just stop worrying” “just focus on something else”. for some, it is impossible to focus on other things, and impossible to stop worrying.
Though this book provided me with certain facts I didn’t know before, I feel as though it’s a rather shallow take on anxiety as a whole. I feel like the book should’ve been called “How To Overcome Everyday Anxiety” because this book provided minimal insight on how overcome anxiety if it’s getting in the way of your daily life. I.E.: an anxiety disorder. This was very surface level advice, and as someone who’s been to several therapists and treatment programs for panic disorder and generalized anxiety disorder, I’d say most of this stuff I’ve already tried or heard before. That being said, it would be a great read for someone struggling with coping with the anxiety and stress that comes along in everyday life, but if these tactics don’t work, seek professional help. There may be something deeper going on. 🤍
I didn't like this book as much of the other books in Anna Barnes' simple series. Of course, the pictures are nice and I love the concept of self-soothing, but this is not an accurate guide for anxiety disorder sufferers to get the help they need.
LMAO shout out my mom for getting this from me from barnes and noble clearance. wildly unhelpful for the most part but absolutely adorable illustrations!
This book had some pretty good points in it, but it also failed to mention how someone can slowly start to get to the point this book is expressing, like for example at one point in this book it told us to be grateful of what we have and that other may not have what we do, this can have a positive effect for some people but for other for example it can make them feel even worse about how they are feeling when they think this, mainly because since other people may not have what we do, it can make you think that you shouldn't even be feeling what you are because other people have it worse, and that thought can lead you to think you are ungrateful for everything that you have, which you are not.
I mean this was okay. I enjoyed the pictures so I’m now going to cut up this book to make a little junk journal moment LMAO. This has very basic reminders to stop worrying and that anxious thoughts DONT benefit you and are usually not based in reality and so it’s good for getting a base knowledge of anxiety. But, it should be called something like, “How to challenge worries,” not how to overcome anxiety girl 💀. This was fine though, when I’m really in the trenches I still need basic ass reminders like girl you don’t ALWAYS have to check your phone and you ARE in control of your life and bitch you’re not going to die! But this was a pretty privileged view of metal health, but whatever, it has cute pictures
Another quick read. Though it didn't really pose any new or in-depth forms of coping with anxiety. But it was okay for what it was. The artwork and quotes were published in an aesthetically pleasing way and the short blurbs on coping with anxiety were alright. I found it to be a decent collection of reflective reminders of self-care to combat anxiety. Good points to meditate on but nothing too groundbreaking.
This is very much so a beginners guide on how to overcome anxiety. I’ve struggled with anxiety for quite some time now, so I will say most of the information in this book I’ve already learned throughout the years in my own, but I still enjoyed reading it and I will recommend this to anyone newly facing the struggles that come with anxiety.
I liked it. I like quick little phrases and sayings to hold on to, to help overcome simple anxiety. When my Don Quixote mind digs in, I noe have some little sayings and affirmations to help refocus.
These books by Anne Barnes are GREAT reminders and refreshers of how we can continue to grow within ourselves or maintain a healthy balance in our daily lives! I love to highlight key words and phrases to review from time to time and the pictures and graphics are always fun.
A cute little book with good tips on how to deal with anxiety. It’s not a cure all book but it’s helped with a lot of insight. I also loved the illustrations.
This book was okay; there were some really good, helpful hints and tips. But I felt like I was still hanging on for more information. The best part is the short reading on each page.
