The Airs of an Heir

Rate this book
As a diplomat's daughter, Anna first meets the future ruler of Antares at a young age and is fascinated by her new home that hosts hints of magic. Years later, when she is forced to move back to England, Anna and Andre keep correspondence to stay united against Andre's identity troubles. But they drift apart until Anna is sent to Antares for Andre's coronation. With the return of physical proximity comes a chance for reconnection, but the troubles of Andre's childhood persist and threaten to push them apart. Andre's evil spellcaster of a sister challenges his meager magical abilities as she plots to become the next queen of Antares, not her first-born brother.

Hello! Independent author over here. I started down this path in 2018 after attending a summer publishing program in New York and realized I'd rather dedicate my time to my own stories filling my head and notebooks.

Since then, I've grown as an independent author and keep finding new ways to improve my craft with each project undertaken and book written. There is a reason people tell writers to read because that's where the secrets live, so while I keep writing, I keep reading—even when it becomes a distraction.

The Airs of An Heir: ✰✰✰✰

≻ Intro ≺

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I was very excited for this book to arrive.

≻ Plot Evaluation ≺

The plot of this book is something interesting that I’ve never read about before. Our main character, Anna, meets the future leader of Antares, Andre, at the age of seven. Anna then moves away until Andre’s coronation. Anna then goes back for his coronation and they reconnect. Then, of course, the conflict of the book comes in: there is a fight for the spot as ruler.

The Airs of An Heir has an equal mix of contemporary and fantasy writing. There is magic but there is also a very realistic setting of the book.

≻ Characters ≺

We first meet the characters of this book at a very young age. I did find that the kids in the beginning of this book talked like they were much older which threw me off a bit.

Anna was having a hard time getting along with the other kids until Andre came along and they hit it off right away. They were great together from the very beginning of this book.

You just knew the characters that were going to cause trouble later on in the book. The author does a great job of making you hate characters.

≻ Extra Notes ≺

There are different messages throughout the book that reminded me of Red White & Royal Blue. I think messages in the book add a good amount of detail.

One of the first things I noticed about this book was that it contained family trees, word translations and more. I think this just added so much detail and thought to the book.

I must say that this book is very big. It is split into different parts but it does look intimidating.

I don’t know about you, but I love fairy tales. There's just something about them that reminds me of my childhood, and for me, the first half of The Airs of an Heir felt like a fairy tale.
This book follows Anna and Andre/Daniella from their childhood through their late teens as their relationship evolves from childhood friendship to a romantic relationship.

You should read this book if you:
✅ Love modern fantasy romances.

✅Love childhood friendships that evolve later into romantic relationships.

✅Love reading books that have pretty covers 🤭.

✅Like books where part of the story is told from a child’s perspective.

This book was written very well; it had sophisticated language without being uptight and had a pretty relatable narrator. This book seemed to be well-researched and held my interest. I thought the way the author used emails to signal the passing time was absolutely brilliant!

Thank you to Stephanie Lane for sending me an ARC copy of this book.

Holy camoly, I'm in love! Ms. Lane tells a wonderful and unique story of modern day young love and fantasy that feels authentic and real. An LGBTQ+ book that is new and different from anything I've read before. Her writing style brought me right into the story and kept me there page after page. It was like I was right there watching the story unfold. Next book please!
