Monica McCabe grew up surrounded by tales of lost civilizations, ancient mysteries, and secret societies. It’s clearly to blame for her troublesome curiosity, love of exploration, and endless travel. Always an avid reader, the writing bug bit somewhere in Alaska, again in the Yucatan, and chomped hard in Tennessee. 4 - The man from NorthStar will be your guide. Stars!

Emerald Fire, is the first book I have read by this author, totally can be read as a standalone even though it is book two in the Jewel Intrigue Series.

There was a distinctive whiff of the Indiana Jones’ about Chloe and Finn’s story, and if you like your romance with a large dose of action and intrigue, Monica McCabe delivered it in spades. You get to visit a few exotic locations in the search for what initially is a stolen Super-Yacht, battle with pirates, but then the adventure morphs into the unravelling of a mystery involving the disappearance of a large cache of Royal Prussian Emeralds.

A two-hundred year tale of love and loyalty had finally come full circle.

Chloe was sassy, Finn snarky and together they made a great team, whether it be in the heat of battle or the heat of the bedroom. Their goals are different in that there main reasons for being in the same place at the same time initially are for their own specific gains, but as the story develops their goals sort of re-align into the same thing.

He shouldn’t have to give up his heritage just so she could save hers…

This is one of those books that keeps you on your toes, as you literally don’t know what is going to happen from one page to the next, I liked that it gave this couple and emotional intensity due to the extreme situations they found themselves in, Chloe being quick to over-react to some things due to her fiery nature was balanced out by Finn’s calm take-stock approach.

"Kiss me like you mean it."

I will definitely be looking to read more from this author, the blurb for the first book in the series sounds just as exciting, and I hope to get to read it at some point in the future.

"Together… Good, bad or in between."

*This is a 4.5 stars review round up to 5

I am passionate about history, I love everything about it and I must admit that I also like adventure video games. When I read the blurb of Emerald Fire I was instantly compelled to read it. When an author is deciding to go the adventure road I expect it to be a page-turner and also a fast pace story. Monica McCabe delivered just that! This is a really good book that I truly enjoyed!

For those of you that are looking for some hot and steamy intimate moments in a story; you won’t find it here, it is very basic and I am good with that. What you will find, though, is a great adventure that is taking us in the Carribean and then back in the US. You will also find pirates, an unlikely collaboration between a historian and freelancer and a lot of twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I’ll talk a little about the story but I don’t want to spoil your fun of reading it. Chloe Larson's uncle has disappeared along with his Yacht (Emerald Fire). Chloe loves her uncle to death and she also hid a 200 years old journal on the yacht, that makes it two good reasons to travel to Carribean to retrieve both of them. Finnegan is working as a freelancer for a Boston insurance company and since the second wife of Jonathan (Chloe's uncle) made an insurance claim for the Emerald Fire, he is going on site to investigate. He is a loner and doesn’t want to be bother by anyone. Chloe had another point of view on this matter, in exchange of his collaboration, she is offering him the GPS coordinates of the Emerald Fire, an offer that he can’t refuse. The adventure is quickly changing to a quest to find the 200 years old jewels of the Prussian Empress. Just thinking about this story makes me want to read again!

What I really like about Emerald Fire is that the romance part is not overshadowing the adventure part of the story. It is well crafted and both are blending together perfectly. The Twists are awesome and the writing is great as well. I was entertained and I really don’t have anything negative to say about this book.

Chloe’s character of a historian is vibrant and is passionate about uncovering the mysteries surround the 200 years old journal that she is studying for quite a while now. Finnegan is a man that is having a rock solid armor around his heart, but Chloe found a way to crack it. Together they made an awesome team for our utmost entertainment!

This is the second book in the Jewel Intrigue series and can be read as a standalone. I can’t wait to read the first one!! I definitely recommend it!

What a fantastic thrill ride the story gave me! It is cleverly built plot wise, well written, and absolutely a pleasure to read, a story that will enthrall you, and capture your mind.
The modern day pirates, the historical mystery of hundreds of years, the obvious connection between Chloe and Finn, that seems to have been a predestinated in the past, it all fascinated and delighted me.
The suspense, mysteries, and action is fast pace, and riveting, dangerous, and deadly. But the plot has enough moments for Finn and Chloe to get to know each other, and their attraction to deepen. Just when the tale lulls you into a serene moment of relationship development, the plot has a twist, and off it goes again with full speed. I loved Finn and Chloe together and as characters. They are well developed, has many great qualities, yet aren't 'perfect'. They seem to understand each other from the start, and even more so as time goes by. The passion between them is scorching and ardent.
The secondary characters all contribute to the story, are interesting, and endearing, especially the father figures.
There was not a moment I didn't enjoy this tale, I wanted to inhale it, and then have some more.
For history, action, suspense, and romance readers, this brings something to all, the fervent, intense action, mysteries of the past, and history being written again, mixed with passion, love, and adoration, deceit and betrayal,an adventure indeed!

Yet another great romantic suspense by Monica McCabe. I read this series out of order but it didn't matter. Each stands on its own without crossover characters. And Emerald Fire didn't disappoint! It kept me glued to the edge of my seat and hanging on for the ride. Just when I thought everything would slow down and get calm for a bit, something else happened to up the stakes. And the romance, though fairly quick, was believable, with a tiny bit of fate thrown in. I really liked that little twist. But now I'm sad because the series is done and I have no more to read. I hope Ms. McCabe is working hard on something else. She writes my kind of stories!!

2.5/5. Simplistic plot and not quite the adventure romance I was hoping for. Far more romance of the instant variety and very little in the way of adventure. Quite forgettable.

If there is one book I would love to see as a movie it's the Emerald Fire. It contains all the necessary components to keep you on the edge of the seat: the action, the through detailing, the historic part of it, the romance. The author clearly did her research. Plus, on top of that a compelling love story. Chloe and Finn are the kind of couple that create sparks every time they’re together. And, I as a reader, couldn’t get enough of their banter.
A book to make your blood pumping for multiple reason. Recommend 10/10.

If you like national treasure and the Mummy, then this is the book for you. Overall it was narrated well, but the heroine sounded as if she were 12. I kept picturing Brandon Fraser and Rachel Weisz (but 12) as the two main characters. I noticed a couple times when the wrong name was used. Once Jason was called John and the coffee maker was called Simon. The recording had several spots where a couple words were repeated, so not perfect, but overall it was good. The author is creative and brought a fun, adventurous & romantic story together well.

Monica McCabe has done it again. I am NOT an action/adventure reader. That being said, by chapter two of Emerald Fire, I needed to know what was going to happen like I needed my next breath. I absolutely loved this adventure romance with a side of murder and intrigue.

Chloe and Finn are extremely "normal" characters. I do not mean this in a way that they are just average joes, because they aren't. But their personalities and traits are similar to so many in our daily lives that it makes them relatable, which is hard to find in an action/adventure romance. I wish I had gotten to know Uncle John and Ronan a little bit better throughout this story, but Chloe and Finn more than made up for it. I also wish that Jason had played a larger part, as I fell in love with him in Diamond Legacy.

This book gave me way more than I bargained for, and I am beyond excited to read the next in this series, Phantom Pearl. I feel like Monica McCabe is single handedly turning me into an action/adventure romance reader. I'm not sure I like it, but I do know that I love these books.

4.5⭐️

This book kept me engaged, and even though it seemed a bit drawn out, it somehow managed to maintain its suspenseful nature. Initially, I expected it to be a fantasy book because that was the vibe I was getting from it but I was surprised when it didn’t turn out that way.

I liked Chloe and Finn together, yet I found a stronger connection with Chloe when she was on her own. Even though Finn’s infatuation provided both endearing and amusing moments, I felt that this is the sort of book that requires a second book. Mostly because romance is one of its strongest plots, but it left me wanting more individual and joint character development.

Nevertheless, the book’s subplots were compelling. Witnessing the downfall of Lisa was satisfying, and I wished for Owen to face a similar fate. It felt like he got off too easily, but life doesn’t always serve the justice we desire.
