Poppy Wilkinson has landed a spot on the hugely popular British Baking Show. But, her real reason for wanting to be on the show isn't to win the best baker prize. Instead, she is on a quest to find out about her birth mother. Broomewold Hall, the site of the show, seems to hold the key to learning something about her past.

While she is participating in the show, she stumbles (literally) upon a dead body and soon Poppy is drawn into a murder mystery. On top of the stress of the show, the murder, and her quest for answers, she also finds out that she is a witch! All of these factors rolled together make for a highly entertaining book. Fans of TV baking shows will love it as the reader is pulled into the backstage workings of this type of show. Cozy mystery fans will enjoy Poppy's urge to find the murderer. The magical element to the book just makes it that much more fun!

The narrator does a great job and the different voices she uses for the characters make this a very enjoyable listen. If you are looking for a fun, quick and entertaining book to listen to as you go about your daily life, I highly recommend this one. I was given the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author and chose to review it.

2023 bk 206 - These are three books combined into one. For fans of the Great British BakeOff, this series is set in a fictional tv show almost identical to the television show. Our main character has worked hard to win a place as a contestant and the books show her progress through the show and her attempts to solve the mystery surrounding her birth and abandment as an infant. Along the way, murders happen within the cast and crew, the people of the surrounding estate, etc. Our heroine discovers not only that she is a witch, but that she has a head for solving crimes. Well done. I still like the Vampire Knitting Series better - probably because it was my first introduction to Nancy Warren's writing style.

This truly is a magical and addictive series where you are treated with more then just mouth watering baked goods and several mysteries that needs to be solved!

Every book in The Great Witches Baking Show will take you further and further in the mystery surrounding Poppy’s origin as she was adopted and never knew her birth parents. The fact that she is apparently also a witch and never knew about it doesn’t make her quest easier!

So if you want to find out if Poppy is cut out to be the baker that can stay on this amazing and well known baking contest, week after week, while mayhem and mysteries seem to pile up more then a five layered cake, then you must read this boxed set!

I garantie you, you’ll not only will want to grab yourself a peace of pie, you will want to read the rest of this series once you finished this box because it is that addictive!

Don’t say I haven’t warned you!

On a further note, why do I enjoy Nancy Warren’s writing style so much?

Well one because she can totally make me envision the entire story. Everything about it feels real, like you’re actually there to taste, feel, smell and see it all!
And two because of het natural in depth relatable characters that could be you or me, which I find is a very nice aspect that makes her stories even more compelling.
And to finish it all, there are enough magical and mystery elements embedded in her series so that you can totally enjoy an adventure that is both trilling and relaxing.

So my advice is, take yourself a nice cup of your favorite hot drink, go sit on a comfortable sofa or something, because you’ll want to enjoy this box to the fullest!

Book 1: The Great Witches Baking Show
This was an entertaining cozy mystery. Poppy is a likable, competent woman. The rest of the characters make for an eclectic mix of personalities and occupations. The police are competent. There were several suspects and motives for the murder. I had the culprit figured out but not the motive. While the murder was solved, Poppy trying to find out about her past will be a continuing theme. That is fine because it would have been too cliché for everything to be wrapped up in one book.

Book 2: Baker's Coven
An enjoyable cozy mystery. Everyone was back for the second week of the baking show--including Gerry. We got to know a few of them better as they helped Poppy find clues to the murder. To me, the murderer was obvious as was the motive for the first murder but the second murder was harder to figure out. Poppy is gaining a little knowledge about being a witch but not about her past. Who warned her to stay away and why? Anxious to read the next book and see what happens.

Book 3: A Rolling Scone
Another delightful cozy mystery. Once again, the gang is back for week three of the baking show. Poppy finds a lead on her birth mother but then the woman dies, Poppy doesn't believe it was natural causes and sets out to find the killer. I had the killer figured out but not the motive. I couldn't think of anything that fit for a motive so that was a big surprise to me. Poppy finally gets into Broomewode Hall and sees the picture up close but it doesn't get her any closer to finding her birth mother. I've already downloaded Book 4 and am looking forward to reading it.

The Great Witches Baking Show-5* This was great. Very cozy from the beginning. I love how the author dives right in and jump-starts the story. Plot is intense and flows well at a good pace. Poppy innocently finagles her way right in the midst of a murder mystery when she is just trying to solve her own mystery, lol. Very entertaining, intriguing and a bit magical. Can't wait to read what Poppy will discover or uncover next.

Baker's Coven-4* The heat is on, in the kitchen, that is. Another lighthearted, cozy baking competition story. Anticipation is building on the mystery of Poppy's parentage search as well as the mysteries of the locale. This leaves me pondering because I can't wait for those revelations. Poppy is a magnet for the mystery of a murder and is becoming quite bold in her sleuthing. Enjoy her adventures, straight-forwardness and compassion.

A Rolling Scone-4 1/2*Poppy is all over the place. I would be stressed out to the max if I had to juggle all the things she's dealing with. The series is based on her finding her parents however readers get the opportunity to get a taste of not only that but also a cozy murder mystery and the baking competition. I tend to want Poppy to focus more on the baking but she's has something for all to prefer her to focus on and is successful in pleasing us all. I read this one out of order but it is still insightful and entertaining.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The first 3 books in a great baking/witches series. I love it!

The Great Witches Baking Show
Poppy Wilkinson has won the right to compete in the Great British Baking Contest. She has a personal reason that she hopes to resolve while she is competing. Her best friend Gina is the hairstylist on the show. As Poppy starts the competition she is befriended by Gerry, a fellow competitor. But at the end of the first event, he is complaining that he is being sabotaged. Life on the show is stressful but the first evening at the inn is enjoyable.

Poppy soon finds out a surprise in her life along with a black cat who is a frequent companion. When a contestant is found dead, Poppy tries to find his murderer.

Baker's Coven
Poppy and Gateau are back in Broomewold with multiple tasks in hand. Find her real mother, move ahead another week in the British Baking Contest, learn more about being a witch, and staying alive. I love this series – it has wonderful characters (at least some of them) and great story line.

A Rolling Scone
Poppy is off to the 3rd weekend of the baking contest. It looks like her hands will be full this weekend. First there’s the threatening note, then work on finding her mother, and of course there’s baking the winning scone. Enjoy the wonderful characters and great story. Who knew the judges were witches?

Another fascinating series by Nancy Warren.
Poppy is a contestant on the Great British Baking show.
She should be excited and thrilled but she has an ulterior motive to be in this quaint English village.
It seems Poppy was left on the doorstep of a bakery wrapped in an exquisite lace shawl.
She notices the shawl in a portrait and is on a mission to discover her parentage.
But nothing is simple and straight forward around Poppy!
With murder and mayhem and witches this turns out to be quite an adventure.
This book set is a real treat because you do not have to wait with baited breath for the next book in the series you can just read on.
Oh and did I mention ,there are scrumptious recipes to try in each.

This is such a fun series consisting of an episodic baking show (including yummy recipes!), the MC trying to uncover information about her birth parents, the MC discovering she is a water witch while becoming acquainted with the area coven and murder mysteries to solve! A warning - these books are addictive and you may find yourself reading “just one more chapter” into the wee hours of the morning.

Although it was my pleasure to receive this ARC, it was completely my choice to share my honest review.

Following Poppy on a baking contest in Somerset is absolutely endearing. I loved each story in this boxset.

The narratives flows and the descriptions are as charming as the characters. The narrator is, as always, a delight to listen to.

Nancy Wareen is one of my all-time favourite authors for cosy mystery and the adventures of Poppy, her cute cat, with the odd scene of a friend's dog taking over, gave me many hours of absolute delight and, quite often, giggles of mirth. Especially the antics of the ghost had me in stitches at times. Wonderful books!

The Great Witches Baking Show cozy Box set comprises books 1-3 in this delightful series.
Poppy has a lot on her plate as she juggles trying to win a national televised baking contest, trying to solve the mystery of her birth and helping to solve the odd murder or two along the way. There are great regular characters, witches, ghosts and of course cakes. The recipe in each book is a nice bonus. I highly recommend this box set, it is a delight read.

This is a fun set of magical mystery novels. I enjoy all the characters and set ups. My only complaint is with the audiobook. It is a very odd choice to have a first person narrative read by a voice actress who is double the age of the main character whose head we're meant to be in. It was very, very hard to read Poppy as being in her mid-twenties when her voice is that of a woman in her 50s. She is a great narrator, but this is just not the right vehicle for her voice.

Baking Fun

This is a great series that combines my favorite things. Mystery, witches and the Great British baking show. The books even have a recipe in the end to use. The contestants, judges and hosts are very interesting. Each story can be read on its own but, I recommend that you start in the beginning so you get the whole story.

Light cozy

Three books in one. Light cozy mysteries with a touch of magic. Loved the baking show aspect. The characters are likeable, the stories are paced well. Recipes are included at the end of each book. Each book has its own mystery with a continuing story of the baking competition and the main character's search for her origins. No romance at all in the first three.

A sweet (no pun intended) cozy mystery series! Really enjoyed the first two, but found the third dragged a little (and had a bit of a glaring plot hole for the conclusion of the mystery). Still, it passes the vibe check and brings that feeling of watching GBBO with a little magical goodness thrown in. Definitely would recommend!

Poppy is a new contestant on The Great British Bake Off. She has a secret, she is able to see ghosts. Soon Poppy finds out that she is a witch through the competition. She’s able to make connections with the coven of witches, and also possibly find her mother, who abandoned her outside of a bakery. These first three novels in this cozy mystery series were sweet. I enjoyed the mysteries and Poppy is a character was very sweet. I just needed more she didn’t have a love interest or really anything other than trying to find her birth parents this part of the series. I might continue, and I or I might not, it depends on the ease of ability to get the books.

I loved the first 3 books in this series, just as much as I enjoyed the Vampire Knitting Club....and that’s saying something!

An amazing delightful different type of cozy stories. Witches, baking and more. What is really going on. Trying to find one’s birth mother might be one reason. A collection worth reading.

Book 1: Got off to a better start than the first “cozy” series about Lucy & her knitting vampires et al but same vein…young woman that discovers she’s a witch, a knitted garment features, a murder & then no doubt a journey of discovery. I sincerely hope the 2nd book doesn’t also feature a murder cos there are so many other good ways this story can develop….let’s find out

Ok so unfortunately murders in all three which Poppy of course solves & other story lines only marginally progressed in each. Going to go for the 4th book & hope author sees sense but suspect the formula is set for this series…what a shame.
