Well, it finally happened. I read a Tatumn Dixon story I didn't like. So let me explain.
First off, I immediately didn't like the MC. She basically left her fiancee at the altar. Because he cheated? No. Was he abusive? No. Was he a bad guy? Didn't seem like it. No, she left because of commitment anxiety. And then immediately takes a sex cruise to have sex with a bunch of strangers. Just rubbed me the wrong way right off the bat. And before I get accused of being a toxic male, if the MC had been a guy and done the same thing, I'd have been even more irritated. I guess I'm going too deep for an erotic novel, but I couldn't help but feel bad for the guy she dumped. So right off I'm not interested in the MC.
Then, there's a ton of M/M. I don't have a problem with it per se, it's just not my thing, and I've always thought if it's not your thing, don't read it. But I've been reading Tatumn Dixon's stuff for years, and there was some, but very little, M/M, so it caught me off guard. That's of course on me and not on the author, but considering I already didn't like where things were going, this didn't help. If that's the direction she's going with her novels from here on out, of course that's fine, it just isn't for me.
Now to clarify, the writing itself is great. She's a great writer, always has been. The sex, for what it was, smoking hot. But there was just too much working against it for me personally. I'll try the next in series to see where it goes, but at this point I much preferred the "club sex" series to "climactic tides."
