The Silvermoon Retirement Village is a quiet, refined refuge from the world. Nestled in the hills above Wellington, New Zealand its residents look forward to living out their days in peace and tranquility.
Unfortunately for the rest of them 97 year old Alice Atkinson lives there. And quiet, peaceful, and tranquil are three words that most definitely do not apply to her.
She’s had an eventful life and picked up some useful skills. Now she has to dust off those skills because it turns out that Silvermoon isn’t as quiet and peaceful as the brochure suggests.
Over the course of three books with the help of her often-reluctant sidekick Vanessa, Alice proves that there is no age limit when it comes to investigating murder, as long as you have your wits about you, a youthful offsider, and a black belt in karate.
Writing is one of those things that I have always done. I vividly remember spending most of an English exam writing a complicated adventure story as the answer to an exam question. I passed the exam, either because of, or despite the answer.
I tend to write the story that comes to mind, regardless of genre.
Poker Chips and Poison Used to be a con artist, and living in a nursing home, she has figured out her friends and neighbors. When they are lying especially, even at poker. A friend has died and she is anxious to solve. Good flowing plot, and enought quirky residents to make this an interesting series. Hip Flask and Hanging Alice didn’t mine getting old it was the feeling old she didn’t like. Vanessa at 23 was smart and more than being a concierge to the residents. Awaiting Amanda at the train station a man from Alice past brushes against her. This gives us an inside look of Alice’s life In London. While a neighbor believe someone is breaking in and taking things. Could the ghost of Alice’s past be connected. Delightful Knitting Needles and Knives A granddaughter got into something illegal and hiding out at her grandfather’s place when the boyfriend ends up murdered. He comes to Alice for help, which she loves doing. Except the girl won’t tell the truth A killer and a thief giving Alice a good work out. Delightful series.
An enjoyable read with intriguingly vibrant characters. Alice resides there, where, at 97 years old she is a complex and feisty woman. I liked the way that she manipulated people. Three books and three murders that needed solving.
If you like feisty older people this set of mysteries is fun to read. There is drama, mystery and murder set in a retirement village. The oldest retiree is a wealthy woman who was a very successful con-artist. She is determined to solve the crimes.
A fun read with filled with delightful characters and unexpected secrets. I'm so glad I've gotten to know the residents at the Silvermoon Retirement Village. We've become friends as we've embarked on adventures, sought answers, and solved a crime or two.
Tossed up between a three and a four, and I've eventually settled on four, because although these weren't the best-written mysteries I've ever read, I loved the New Zealand setting (no surprises there), and the stories and characters were fun and had me hooked.
Loved it no complaints had trouble figuring out who done it(usually I can. Would recommend to everyone who likes to read. Thank you for sharing and writing this book.
