I didn't have the highest expectations for River of Harmony. I downloaded it for free off of the iBooks store and most of the free books I find on there aren't great. However, I read a dark romance that I actually liked last month so I decided to give this one a chance in case my tastes truly have changed to like this genre more. Despite hoping that I would like this book, I found that it fell flat and it was often so poorly written in parts that it was hard to read the story without laughing.
In terms of writing mechanics, this book needed a ton more editing as it struggled from very common and easily fixable mistakes. It had a problem where it would switch between past and present tense for no reason. It also struggled with maintaining the same points of view. Each chapter is from a different person's point of view, but it is written in third person limited. Occasionally this would be forgotten and first-person terms like myself/I/me would be used. I think River of Harmony needed a lot better editing in order to get the writing in better shape.
With the writing, there were also numerous cringey, laughable, and questionable quotes, which wasn't what I was hoping for in a dark romance. Here's just a few of the quotes:
-"...delve my skillful tongue between her honeyed folds, and drown her in her sweet, spicy essence." - Honeyed folds was a common phrase that was said to seem attractive... Yuck.
-"Fuck, she wanted to perform an exorcism on his massive dick." - Unfortunately, the word exorcism was used like this several times throughout the book.
-When River saw Harmony touching herself, his response was "his eyes never wavered from Harmony during the sexual assault she was lacquering on her body." Harmony is a sexual abuse victim. Calling this action an "assault" feels really wrong.
-"...provided they'd swing that way, which ladies generally did when it came to River." - I don't like this toxic mindset of "I'm so hot that all women, even lesbians, will be into me."
-"He was barefoot and had changed into leather pants." - I don't know why this author thinks it's attractive for a guy to wear leather pants during spicy scenes, but it happened more than once throughout this book.
-"You can't do this, River. I need to go see my Daddio!" - No comment needed.
I didn't vibe with River's and Harmony's relationship very much. I'm not the biggest fan of master/slave dynamics, so maybe BDSM books aren't for me. Master/slave dynamics aside though, I felt that their relationship was very toxic. River was very hot/cold to Harmony for the first part of this book. It was super unhealthy. Harmony, on the other hand, was still recovering from child sexual abuse and seemed to have been roped into a BDSM club as soon as she escaped her abuser. She's young and vulnerable. She won't truly be able to have a healthy and fulfilling relationship until she learns who she is as a person and recovers from the abuse. Throughout this entire book, I never felt like she recovered from what happened. Instead, it felt like she latched onto sex as an escape from her past and she latched onto River in particular because he was her savior from the abuse. The latching on to River is most obvious when his "alter ego" takes over and he performs a horrible action against her that triggers her to the point of blackout. If she was able to be more independent and in charge of who she was, she wouldn't have continued anything with that man after his behavior.
There are more faults I could go on longer about, but hopefully this gives a solid peak into why this book didn't work for me. The plot was strong, but the writing and romance made this story fall flat.

This book is hot hot hot 🔥🔥🔥
Harmony is a survivor. She was taken in by River, the co-owner of a BDSM club, and these two find that they have a very real connection to each other. Harmony has a very jaded past however. But what she does not realize, is that River has a past of his own.
This book starts you off hot and heavy and doesn't let you down until the end of the book when you turn the last page. It just sucks you in immediately! And this is so much more than just a BDSM book. The drama and action are extremely engaging and well worth a read. the romantic tug of war between the two main characters is nail biting and always leaves you wanting more.
The sex scenes and BDSM portions are very well written and show the lifestyle in a more realistic light than other books do. (I won't name any names 😉) Also there is no detail that goes undescribed in the sex scenes which gives the reader a very clear picture of who's doing what and what's going on in the scene. These scenes can get EXTREMELY steamy!!! So be forewarned!
I did find a few things that I didn't like about the book and the first and foremost is that I found a couple of minor editing errors. But that's an easy fix. The other is I wanted better world building. What exactly is Club Insanity? Where is it? What does it look like? What do the characters see around them in the world that they're moving around in? Some of these questions should have been answered right off the bat but were not. I feel like for someone who is reading a BDSM book for the first time and may be completely new to the lifestyle they may not know what a BDSM club looks like or what the purpose of it is. I felt while reading that a little bit more detail would have given this book a very lavish effect and would have made the book damn near perfect. However this is my only real qualm with the book.
Everything put together this is a fantastic book, very well written, and definitely worth the read!!! I am definitely recommending this book!

Luckily,this one was free on Apple Books.
Published jan2023,so i guess new edition.
The blurb sounded interesting enough,but.
The writing was awful,i don’t think she used an editor.
The inner monologues,the constant switching from one character to the other,the lack of depth.
In short,what could’ve been a good story was killed by the execution of the thing,and the entire time i spent reading,i was annoyed as hell.
I tried,i really did….but it was the worst i’ve seen in a very long time.
I read the reviews,trust me,i did…..but those MUST have been of a different book or something.
They were of the earlier editions,but if this one’s that bad,i doubt they were any better.

4.5 Stars for this debut novel!
Erotica is not my usual genre, but I've been following this author's poetry on Instagram and when I noticed she published a novel, I decided to give it a try. Moore is a very talented writer. Her prose is tight and her storytelling is relentless. I felt like I needed to come up for air a few times. There was almost no lull in the action.
The sex scenes are intense and explicit, which I'm sure will appeal to erotica lovers. I was less interested in the details of the sex and more interested in the BDSM lifestyle, which the author depicted well.
All and all I found this to be a fast and engaging read. I highly recommend it to lovers of erotic fiction. You won't be disappointed.

I wasn't expecting a suspenseful revenge story in the middle of a BDSM book, and it was a nice surprise. The BDSM in this story is great, a much better representation of the lifestyle that I've seen in most books, so I thought that was what I was in for. Then one of our mains started receiving death threats and other main's brothers turns up in hospital from an apparent suicide attempt. And from there we're thrown on a wild ride that blends bouts of really hot sex with vengeful anger and retribution. It's an action-packed read.

River and Harmony, oh those two 😍, but the story, all the twists and turns kept me on edge the whole way through. The sex and bdsm scenes were all perfect 🥵. A lot happened in a not very long book, but it all fit perfectly! I can't wait to read Blood Vows 🖤

I’m very particular about my BDSM reads, one of my biggest pet peeves is an author portraying all sexually assertive men as dominant and light spanking as BDSM.
Lena does a great job writing the lifestyle! 🔥 River & Harmony are electric.

Lena writes a story with an overall message of accepting the one you love even with their flaws, which we all have. Every chapter keeps you engaged and wanting to know what happens next. Must read for fans of the genre.

I don’t often read much these days, but once I started I couldn’t put it down!
It was certainly gripping from start to finish.
I’ve watched the Author grow with her writing over the years and she astounds me every time I read something new.
Finally, a book that doesn’t water down the BDSM Scene.
A great story line set amongst the world of BDSM. It has everything you could want in a book – fiery passion, intense moments - it will leave you breathless and begging for more.
It was extremely well written and executed. If you are into erotic fiction – you will surely love this.
I look forward to reading the next book in the Insanity Series and any other novels this new Author may create.

Lena’s debut novel has a little bit of everything for everyone!!! The sexy scenes have all the yummy components in a bdsm book you want, and then some!!! But that’s definitely just the tip of the iceberg in this novel. There is suspense, drama and mystery and romance. Very griping and steamy! There are also some very sensitive topics explored within the novel that may definitely trigger some folks like: attempted rape, suicide, stalking and graphic murder.

Lena Moore is an extremely talented writer. This is not my norm for reading but I'm super happy that I took the chance! I loved the raunchiness of the story and how explicit it was. I loved how open everyone was sexually and they did it unabashedly. Harmony has gone through some trauma but she is strong. She's fiery and knows what she wants, and what she wants is River Drake. River Drake is a Dom and co-owner of a BDSM club, so you can already see what kind of story you're going to get just by the that statement alone. It's no fifty shades but I think of that as a good thing because I didn't much care for those books. I'm not crazy about BDSM but if it feels like it's done right and I'm not feeling like it's forced writing then I can appreciate that. Lena Moore definitely knows how to write BDSM.
While I loved the storyline and how angsty River Drake was, I hated the ow addition. One thing to know about me, I am not down for sharing unless it's an RH, or MFM book. I know this does not bother others but just fair warning that this book contains scenes of these 2 individuals have separate sexual encounters.
River Drake found Harmony and she was broken and scared. River doesn't want to feel like he's taking advantage of the situation by succumbing to Harmony and being with her. Even though he definitely wants to be with her. It breaks my heart that he felt this way but he's a really good guy so he fights his instincts. But, Harmony is no wallflower, and like I said she knows what she wants.

A dark and erotic tale of love and revenge
I'm not usually a reader or erotica, other than the Beauty series by Anne Rice, but I found this book enjoyable, fast paced and interesting to watch the characters evolve.
However, that being said there were a few things that niggeled me. The main one is the profanities used in the descriptive text, I'm fine when it's part of who a character speaks but I found it distracting at other times. The second was product placement. Knowing that headphones were made by Beats didn't add anything to the narrative for me.
All in all though I'm happy to give this novel a solid 4 out of 5.

I loved this book! Such an addictive read. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. River and Harmony had such sizzling chemistry and had me wanting more, certainly makes 50 shades dull in comparison. Can’t wait for the next instalment from this new and upcoming author.

Sometimes our past experiences drive our needs and I feel Lena Moore has captured this well in her characters.
if you enjoy raunchy sex scenes and not shy of explicit language you're in for a treat.
The storyline beyond the sex draws you in and keeps you reading until all is revealed.

Hot, Hot, Hot. My first book from this author and I will definitely be coming back for more. If you like explicit, well written, descriptive as hell BDSM yumminess than this is a book you will absolutely devour. Absolutely fabulous, engaging, I MADE time for this book in my busy sheduale it was that amazing. River is my main man. 🖤 And Harmony, that bitch. 🔥💋❤ Highly recommended.

Clever name! I did really enjoy this book. I thought it had a fantastic story line with some twists. It was very sexy with lots of heat, there were some similarities in stories with a well known BDSM book, but this was about 100times better written! The only reason for not being five stars was the main setting was a BDSM club, but the scenes were very very mild BDSM. However in saying that the author did write the sex scenes so well that with edging you could feel the characters tension!

The story features the mmc River who owns a bdsm club who suffers from split personality due to his abusive childhood and the death of his mother. He rescues our fmc Harmony who was escaping her depraved step brother who abused and tortured her. Although desiring each other River and Harmony work together without making their relationship anything more than professional. Until their past tortures collide and River claims Harmony to protect her. After that their relationship blossoms.
First half was hard to get into due to the constant back and forth. His putting her into sexual situation then pulling back and berating her and himself about it happening. About half way thru it improves after he decides to claim her for her protection. The chemistry between them is allowed and their relationship blooms very effectively. Despite it being hard to get into the author has made a good display of a real person who struggles between what he wants and what he should do. Through the book the pasts of the River and harmony are shown a lot so when they have to face them. Everything that happens and all the characters reactions to it make so much sense.
The story heavily features Bdsm play in terms of Masters and Slaves. River himself being a Master. The scenes are explicit and can be triggering if pain play and bite play are an issue. It also features some other triggering content in terms of SA, murder, torture, suicide attempts and drug use.
Overall I would put spice at around a 4/5 and rate the books overall at a 3-3.5 star. The second half is much better than the first so stick with it you’re struggling.

The story heavily features Bdsm play in terms of Masters and Slaves. River himself being a Master. The scenes are explicit and can be triggering if pain play and bite play are an issue. It also features some other triggering content in terms of SA, murder, torture, suicide attempts and drug use.
Overall I would put spice at around a 4/5 and rate the books overall at a 3-3.5 star. The second half is much better than the first so stick with it you’re struggling.

Oh what to say! I read this book literally in one night. I couldn't put it down. When you start you can't stop. River and Harmony is a story that is intense, fierce, breathe-taking.....
The author takes you along the ride from start to finish in every scene. She is fantastic in her writing, for her first book it's a great story line and I can't wait to read more from her.

Wow. I am absolutely floored at the amazing and beautiful way this story was wrritten. I instantly fell in love with the main male character and was taken of an emotional and exhilirating journey. I read it twice and jyst want to say how takented this author/writer is.

Suspense and Mystery mixed with Hot BDSM
I didn't know exactly what to expect with River of Harmony but was immediately pulled in to this story. It wasn't the plot that pulled me into the story (although the plot got better and better as the story unfolded), it was the characters River and Harmony. River, torn between giving into his feelings for Harmony who he swore to protect and his believe that he would eventually destroy her if he gave into this desires for her, and Harmony who doesn't understand River's reluctance to accept her submission. This give and take struggle between the two kept me reading. As the author, Lena, revealed more and more of the conflict in River and Harmony's life and forces gathered to destroy them both, the suspense and mystery deepened.
This is a great first novel by a talented author who really enjoys what she writes. You can't go wrong with giving this a read, especially if you want to experience a BDSM romance.

I had not read any of Lena Moore's work before but I really enjoyed her writing style in this book.
I was expecting the usual BDSM story where one of the main characters wants the other and then goes about getting that person.
To some extent that happened, but the twists with both main characters and how they are thrown together was very well written.
Harmony was rescued by River when she escaped her stepbrother who had been fantasising about her for years. She offeres herself as a sub to River and he turns her down because he has his own demons but then Harmony starts receiving death threats so River vows to protect her but then his brothers turns up in hospital from an apparent suicide attempt.
How are these two incidents connected? This story really had me gripped until the end with hot sex between the main characters and anger and a desire for retribution.
My only gripe is that the book ended on a cliffhanger, so now I'm off to read the next part.

Scorching hot and a good mystery!
From beginning to end it will have you tied up in knots! There’s so much going on in this book and it’s all goodness. Putting strain on your heart with the dark evil storylines because one heartbreaking past is not enough, add in the relationship denial for a anxiety inducing, nail biting read. Add in some bdsm and heat and you just might need new knickers. All the emotional elements are there to demand you feel all the feels. Honestly my only complaint is there should have been a little more punishment. I mean they live in a club dedicated to that but it’s still an amazing read! There are triggers so consider that before diving in. This book is so much more then a dark romance. It’s twisted and insane and I loved every minute of it!

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat as you get hooked into the lives of the characters and anxiously read with anticipation of what will happen next. Gotta say I picked up this book on a whim after coming across the author on Instagram. Not knowing much about the author, or really, the series storyline, I dove in!
I enjoy reading BDSM and have no issues reading a variety inside that world. This book has some seriously dark taboo issues. If you have triggers, then be warned. The story deals with love, pain, despair, hauntings from the past, and danger. There are interesting dom/sub situations and mental health challenges. This was definitely interesting, kept my attention, and has me thinking I will pick up another book by this author.

Wow! This book was a fabulous, intense, emotional and steamy read that had me intrigued from the start. I’m not normally an erotic romance reader but wanting to support a fellow Aussie author I bit the bullet and dove into this one. And I really enjoyed it, especially finding out about the BDSM lifestyle and the goings on in River’s club Insanity. Both River and Harmony have demons from their pasts that haunt them and I truly loved how their being together blocked those out. The love between them was evident from the start and it was a joy to read. Definitely going to read book 2 ASAP! The cliffhanger was damn brutal but has me intrigued for more of this world!
