Two animal friends play a game of hide and seek in this third picture book in a charming series from Emily Gravett.
Bear and Hare are playing hide and seek! Hare counts to ten. Bear hides, but Hare finds him quickly. Again. And then again! But when Bear counts—1…2…3 all the way to 10—Hare hides. Will Bear find Hare? Will Hare find Bear?
Told and illustrated with Emily Gravett’s characteristic flair, this picture book for young readers is the perfect companion for friends of all sorts.
Emily Gravett is twice winner of the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal and the Nestlé Children's Book Prize Bronze Award for WOLVES and LITTLE MOUSE'S BIG BOOK OF FEARS. An author/illustrator of unique talent and tremendous skill, she has a host of critically acclaimed books to her name, including BLUE CHAMELEON, WOLF WON'T BITE! and AGAIN! Emily lives in Brighton with her partner and their daughter.
A beautifully illustrated board book focusing on counting between one and ten. My two year old son thoroughly enjoyed this one as we pointed at each number.
Even though my kid is bit old for this type of books, I can still feel his anxiety when Hare cannot find the Bear....and his relief afterwards when he did! Great little book for toddlers.
For the littlest - rather boring for me (even though there are lots of picture-books I adore). I do like the heavy paper - the book will last longer in toddler's hands, and be less likely to need to be replaced by the lending libraries. Not too big, lively but not too busy or over-stimulating illustrations, and an implausible but neat sort of a twist at the end.
Emily Gravett clearly understands the minds and the behaviors of children as demonstrated in this, the third title she's created devoted to Bear and Hare. As often happens when two friends get together, the animals decide to play hide-and-seek, but Bear is just too big to hide or not very good at doing so. When Hare spots him quickly on three different occasions, the animals decide to take turns hiding. But Hare is quite good at hiding, so good that Bear simply cannot find his friend. Naturally, Hare becomes quite distraught because Bear has disappeared while looking for the hiding rabbit. Young readers will know where Bear is the whole time as well as being able to spot Hare's hiding place as well, but they are still likely to relate to Hare's feelings. After all, no one wants to lose a friend. The pencil, watercolor, and wax crayon illustrations feature facial expressions that reveal the characters' emotions as well as a stack of books, one title of which is Gravett's own Monkey and Me and a headboard with a hare leaping over the moon. It's little touches such as these and the excellent use of white space that make this one worth reading more than once. While these Bear & Hare books aren't as stunning as her previous titles such as The Rabbit Problem or Wolves, for instance, they are still outstanding and ideal for sharing with youngsters and perhaps discussing where Hare might be hiding. Or, if all else fails, why not simply enjoy the book for its visual and textual treats? This title is going in my personal classroom library to share with my own students.
This cute installment to the Bear & Hare series will have young readers giggling as the two friends play hide and seek. Bear isn't very good at hiding, as Hare finds him right away each time. They switch and Hare is a little too good at hiding. The adorable illustrations will make this a fun read.
This very clever book is a concept book as there is a lot of counting from 1-10. It has very simple vocabulary and lots of rhyming making this a reflect read aloud for a very young audience. The characters are charming and funny and the illustrations are just wonderful.
I love reading simple book to my kids that doesn't cause them to think. So I was excited to read "Where's Bear" by Emily Gravett. This book is apart of the Bear & Hare series. This book was published in 2016. Bear and Hare are playing hide and seek. Hare counts to ten and then goes on a search for Bear but can not find him anywhere.
This book is really cute and short perfect for a toddler and an infant. I loved the simple illustrations through out this book that seem to keep my kids eyes. This book is great and perfect for the little readers.
Gravett, Emily. Bear & Hare: Where’s Bear? PICTURE BOOK. Simon & Schuster, 2016. $16.99. Bear and Hare are playing hide and seek. Bear isn’t very good at hiding, so Hare takes a turn. Bear looks and looks, and finally climbs into bed after looking under a blanket. Hare can’t find Bear. He looks everywhere. He finally calls out and finds bear under the blanket.
The story is simple, but the illustrations rendered in pencil, watercolor, and wax crayons, raise the book to charming. Bear and Hare’s expressions are vivid and could tell the story without words. Better for preschool age children, then school age. If you would like to read some of their other adventures, try: Bear & Hare: Go Fishing and Bear & Hare: Snow!
This is a cute story of two friends playing hide-and-seek. Using minimal words and adorable illustrations, Emily Gravett shares a story of Hare and Bear taking turns hiding and finding each other. Bear struggles to find good hiding places, so Hare takes a turn hiding.
There is a fun twist, when Bear can't find Hare, that young readers will enjoy. It lets them be "in the know" while Bear and Hare are frantically searching for each other. The ending makes you feel good and experience the love between the two friends.
Overall, this will be a delightful book for readers just venturing out on their own. The book is sweet, with an interesting twist.
Bear isn't so great at hiding in this continuation of the Bear & Hare picturebook adventures. After three unsuccessful attempts at hiding, it's hare's turn to try. Turns out bear isn't so great at looking either and he misses hare hiding under a blanket on the floor. Bear climbs into bed, pulling the blanket over himself and revealing hare to the readers. Then poor hare can't find bear. Kids will get a kick of these two friends failed attempts at a game of hide and seek. Counting skills are reinforced as both hare and bear count on their fingers while their friend hides.

I really love the illustrations in this book. The animal faces are very expressive and there are lot's of opportunities for kids to guess what's coming. Bear is big and not very good at hiding, so rabbit finds him easily, becoming a little exasperated at Bear's poor attempts at hiding. When the two decide to switch and rabbit does the hiding, bear disappears, but it won't be hard for the kids to guess where he went. Perfect for a preschool storytime!
May 2016 - a game of hide and seek that's perfect for toddlers or young preschoolers (Ben couldn't find Bear under the covers). Nice detail in the illustrations - Monkey And Me makes an appearance, and Hare has quite the chamber pot. The paper is lovely and extra thick, good for small hands.
I’ve read the later Bear & Hare books, but this one is new to me. For young children, a game of hide and seek is what it’s all about, and when hare can’t find bear, the friendship and love wins, bear appears and hare is happy.
Adorably silly. It's funny for the Very Small Ones, but they'll continue to appreciate this book the older they get - which is great, 'coz that means it can be a favourite for a very long time. (Also, I kind of want a t-shirt of Hare staring at Bear as he hides behind the fishtank!)
We enjoy Emily Gravett's books (almost all of those available from the library) and absolutely love some of them. This is one that my young children laugh out loud due to the wonderful illustration and simply play of hide and seek between hare and bear.
A cute counting book featuring bear and hare playing hide and go seek. Rabbit gets a bit stressed when finding Bear proves difficult, but it all ends with happiness and a hug. I enjoy Gravett's illustrations, especially how creative her character's expressions are.
Bear and Hare play hide and seek. Hare is more successful at hiding, but Bear soon learns how to be an expert at hiding by observing Hare. Cute illustrations throughout as Bear and Hare play their game.

Love this book. Such lovely illustrations.. opportunities to count, and a lovely back and forth between two soul-mates. It's an easy size to put in a bag if you're going out too, unlike some board books you might have to leave at home because of size!
My 2 year old LOVES this book! We read it 4 times last night. Bear and Hare play a game of hide and seek. Counting to 10 and humor that is just right for a toddler. We will be finding the other Bear and Hare books. This one was just charming.
Given away free by the BookTrust. BookTrust certainly have a knack of choosing good books that help with baby development. My baby loves this book and started saying 'Oh bear!' when I was reading.
