Ragnarök Rising

Rate this book
Five possessive gods and the end of mankind. That's my fate.

I always thought the end of the world was a myth. But then, I also thought Norse gods were make believe too.

They’re not.

Five of them are coming for me. They claim I will only survive if I surrender to them, body and soul.

But they don’t realize it’s about so much more than carnal servitude. I am so much more than they could ever suspect. So much more than even I knew.

I am the only one who can stop Ragnarök from covering the world in ice and darkness. The only one who can save gods and men alike from annihilation.

And in the shadows lurks betrayal so deep it will change the fate of the world...

I am Nora Ash, and I write a plethora of different romance books. Some of them are really dirty, some of them are only kinda-dirty, some are paranormal, some are contemporary… Basically, I have a rampant imagination and no way of controlling it, except from just writing down whichever idea pops into my head at the time.

The one thing my books always have in common, though? A great story and a guaranteed HEA.
If you’re ever in doubt about what you’re about to read, have a look at my book page. It has a flame rating for each series, so you know what you’re getting yourself into!

I’m originally from the cold North (AKA Scandinavia) but these days I live in rainy England with my amazing fiancé and our two pesty cats. When I’m not writing, I’m probably reading, watching Real Housewives of Wherever (reality tv it’s my shameful addiction) or hiking in whatever bit of woodland I can find.

Three fun facts about me

I once ran away with a traveling circus
I’m bilingual. Almost-kinda trilingual, but my Spanish is terri-bad these days.
I’m a decent rider (English style only, though)

This book features Omegaverse with Norse Mythology. Such an interesting combination, isn't it? While it's the usual Omegaverse but this story lacked proper story description and had annoying characters. There are gods and demi-gods - the legimate and illegimate sons of Loki and Thor.

Annabel, who recently discovered she is an Omega is thrust among 5 Alpha mates (Saga, Bjarni, Grim, Magni and Modi; sons of Loki and Thor). And it's not easy, sons of Loki and Thor don't get along. This gangbang is prophesied to save the world from the approaching Ragnarök. Annabel is mated/raped Saga and Magni which was totally unromantic. I wanted to stop reading here but I went on. The Alphas are slow to defend their mate and she inturn is slow to defend herself when she was accused of purposely sleeping with the son of the enemy. The Alphas are possessive and controlling but what they lacked was being a hero. There was no bonding with Annabel and the two Alphas she mated, whatever soft feelings they have for each other are totally on force of mating, hence I lost interest in the characters. And I've no idea what went through their journey to Asgard, I kind of skimmed most of the part.

By the end of the book I thought I won't read the next book but that cliffhanger at the end got me. The next book might have the appearances of Loki and Thor themselves.

Maybe I shouldn't judge the book already because there are two more books for this story to flourish. This is a reverse-harem Omegaverse. If you are not aware of the Norse Mythology this story might be a little difficult to understand since the Norse characters/places are involved here but I think it's adjustable and can be read easily.

Update : Reread one year later because the sequel came out recently and I realised I'd forgotten absolutely EVERYTHING. Which isn't a great sign, since normally I don't forget books that quickly, in fact this is the first time I've ever had to reread a book in preparation for the sequel. So the rating will stay at 3 stars. But it's enjoyable, with great sex scenes and a fun heroine (if a mediocre plot).

Original Review

Pleasantly surprised by this one! The guys all had distinct personalities, and there was a surprising amount of humour which actually made me grin. This book also deserves props for being only the second omegaverse reverse harem I've enjoyed reading. (The first is Addison Cain's Wren's Song series, which is of course not really romance at all).

It's a shame it's been 6 months since this book came out, and still no sign of a sequel...

This review may contain mild spoilers, and it definitely contains adult language. But if you're about to read Ragnarök Rising, then you better get used to smut.

Since I don't leave negative reviews, especially on books that I barely finish reading, this review of mine is more along the lines of "please, explain things to me", rather than "hey, here's my useless rant about why I disliked the book".

So here goes: I have no idea what this book was about or what its purpose was. Was it supposed to be romance? Erotica? Mythological? Just very smutty and supposedly 'hot'? Or just omegaverse? And what, exactly, is this omegaverse - is it just about the alpha/beta/omega hierarchy and penis knots? Omegas being dominated, yet revered? Omegas saving the world? Dominating from a submissive position?

The sex scenes in this book borderlined hentai type of grossness/sillyness with gaping vaginas and flowing rivers of lady liquids, coupled with rapey vibes, because "me Alpha, you Omega, me give big cock and you take big cock, or two..". I get that the men are meant to be dominant, but are they also supposed to be so, well, rapey? And is this also typical of omegaverse?

While I don't mind dominant alpha males and all that, I just felt that in this particular book, the male characters weren't all that dominant - they seemed like surly little boys who lacked the intelligence to outwit or charm a woman, so they relied on hormones (aka Annabel's heat, her body's natural responses, etc.) to get the job done. And eventually, when love and romance are mentioned or hinted at, it all seems hollow and forced, just to placate the readers that might not be totally into gushing semen filled vajayjays.

And I still have no clue what type of a man Saga is supposed to be. (Also, Saga is a woman's name in, at least, Sweden and Finland, which is confusing.) One of the Loki brothers is the funny one, and the other is the grim one (aka Grim, who hates everything, but who will probably fall riiiight in love with Anna just like the rest), but what about Saga? His personality is a bit all over the place.

Oh and, what is with the references to Marvel and Chris Hemsworth? Is this book trying to be serious or silly/humorous?

But like I said.. Not trying to be negative here. Just asking!

Can't say I'm impressed with this book. I wanted a quick ish audiobook to devour and this sounded interesting enough. Early on there was a chance for this one but not even a third of the way in everything derails. That and a group of childish and cruel gods was just not doing it for me. They’re all butt hurt that their promised mate went off to school rather than come to them. For gods who have been around awhile I didn’t expect them to be so callous or cruel. I mean honestly with her arrival bringing the literal end of the world with Ragnarok, honestly I’m not sure what the fuss is about or why the rush. They really do view her as a pawn and object which was very annoying. They soften a bit by the end but I’m just not blown away with this one and won’t be continuing 😓

Probably one of - if not THE - biggest letdown of the year. I spent 367 pages being confused as hell because I understood nothing. Nothing at all. It took me over 50% to FINALLY figure out this whole alpha/omega/whatever thing wasn't something the author initially came up with, but a genre used in erotic fiction, particularly fanfic (kudos to my pal Google lmao). I wish I'd known about it in advance. That said, the blurb didn't hint at anything, just saying.
The book was equally confusing and disgusting and I honestly don’t know why I kept reading but here we are. On the plus side, my next read is bound to be a lot better...

You can expect the usual alpha omagaverse that Nora Ash is known for. When I read the description I was like, Thor-like over the top alpha males, strong-willed female, polyamorous....looooove.... So engrossing. I do have to say there were a number of typos. If you're like me and find typos take you out of the story- then just be aware. With lesser authors and books I usually instantly stop reading. I was able to overlook though as I felt the story was so good. Hate to knit-pick, but another thing that disappointed me was that there was so many POVs. I enjoy reading from the lead female and am OK with the occasional line or two from the male but there was too many in this one for my liking. I have come to expect and enjoy the 'romantic' parts (to get my review approved I'm trying to choose my words carefully) but let's say eggplant and taco parts from the female's POV.....anyway, I was disappointed where a lot of it was in the POV of the males during these parts and for me....that was disappointing as that's what gets me 'into it'. one scene in particular which would have been amazeballs if it was from the female's POV....oh well. Just me. I hate that it ended on the dreaded cliff-hanger, but I am so invested in the story and characters I can't wait!

Nora Ash new series! EXCITED!!!

I love Nora's writing style. It is the perfect balance of adventure and steamy!

Our leading lady Annabel, thinking she's just your average everyday human (beta model) heads off on an awfully big adventure to visit family friends in Iceland. Things come undone pretty quickly once Annabel discovers that not only are these 'family friends' not your average Icelandic Farmers, but they are actually a trio of Alpha 'Godlings' sired by none other than Loki the Trickster god himself.

Without giving too much away, Annabel soon discovers that she is not only NOT a beta, but she is in fact an Omega, fated to be the bonded mate of the three Alpha sons of Loki, plus a couple of extra Godlings thrown in in the form of two Alpha sons of Thor (yes that's right, God of Thunder). I can hear you thinking "Five Alphas" surely not! Surely yes!!! *fans self*

We are given a wild ride for the first couple of bondings! Magni (son of Thor) and Saga (son of Loki) both manage the initial mating with our reluctant little Omega Annabel. The scenes are explosive and well written, as we have come to expect from this author, and we can feel the reluctant submission of our Omega in every paragraph as the steam factor heats up and rises from the pages to surround us with its lusty fragrance. *exhales*

If you love mythical adventure with a hefty amount of sassy Omega and dominant Alphas thrown in, then you are going to love this new series! I can't wait for book 2, Weaving Fate!

I gave this one five stars!!!

3.5* STARS!!

I've been heard about Omegaverse (Reverse Harem in PNR) for a while and not really interested until now. I got curious with Ragnarök Rising and the blurb sounds amazing. The author is new for me, so it doubles curiosity. Pretty cover too.

Alpha = Top/Dominant
Omega = Bottom/submissive
Beta = ??? Maybe in the mid of them. But Alpha didn't take interest in Beta.

Annabel lives her ordinary life and never thought Gods is real. When she's on vacation in Iceland; forced by her parents, she met them. Three gorgeous man looks like Viking. Tall and all muscle. Saga as the oldest instantly hit on her every time. Bjarni the middle son is the easy-going and funny kind. Grim the youngest is the only one didn't really "care" about Annabel. Secretly, three of them are the Sons of Loki. All of them wants to claim Annabel but she is a Beta, isn't she?

description

Then another Alpha, Magni the illegitimate son of Thor acts like a caveman towards Annabel. Imagine their journey is a mix of Rick Riordan's mythology with a lot of steamy scenes. Yup, I didn't say sex. That's the disappointing part. In fact, Annabel didn't really willing to do sex with the Alphas really frustrated me. It is really hard to suddenly have sex with strangers as they're just met.

The story goes on when Annabel found herself gifted with foresight. I kinda liked Annabel when she accept her fate. She could thinking straight with all those Gods and Prophechy came into her now-upside-down life. Not really strong as a kick-ass heroine, though because Annabel is an Omega after all. But enough to put down those Big Bad Alphas.

The world building is already good since I like Norse myth. The story itself written nicely but I felt not well-balanced with the chemistry between Annabel and the Alphas. Claimed by five Alphas at once? Who doesn't run down the hills. Saga, Bjarni, Grim, Magni and Modi (Magnis' brother) are destined to be Annabel's mate. Definitely scary but couldn't wait more of them especially Modi. I need more chemistry between all of them. That's the important part of mating, right? I didn't have any favorites right now but Magni is the least likable person right now. LOL!

3 out of 5 stars rating.

This is my first time reading a female oriented omega verse. I did not know they existed. That being said, trigger warning of dubious consent for many of the sex scenes in the book. The story also ends in a cliff hanger.

Magni was asshole number 1, followed by Saga. In the scale of my least favourite of Annabel's mates, this is followed by Grim, who really wasn't bad to her, if anything he was the one most against taking her without her consent, but his asshole indifference annoyed me. Bjarni so far was my best mate character. The last one, I won't even spoil it for you, read to find out.

I enjoyed the insults in the book when the guys were initially fighting for Anna. I know there was a yo mama joke (or was it yo father joke) and someone was also called a thundercunt, which made me laugh. I have to say, as the Marvel movies are mentioned in the book, I was like Anna, imagining Marvel's Thor and Loki as the dads of these misfits. I also enjoyed the Norse mythology in the book, again, most of the times I was just picturing the Marvel book when bifrost was mentioned or even for the description of Asgard.

The quest that we have in the story was too long. All the guys have daddy issues. I honestly felt like hitting Magni+Saga over the head when continually they were forcing issues on Anna with the premise of you're-our-mate-and-you'll-like-it. Due to this aspect, I don't think I will be going on with book two. It was an okay start to the series.

I honestly have no clue how to rate this. It's a bit of a mess. Maybe 2 ⭐️???

Non-con is, unfortunately, pretty common for omegaverse stories. The whole spiel of her saying "you raped me" and his "you enjoyed it, it's what you want, it's in your nature. You're pussy was made for this" is super gross (Also really bad pseudo-excuse for rape !!!).

The story is, at times actually pretty entertaining. And weird. What really annoyed me was the main character's absolute ignorance about norse mythology. She apparently majored in Nordic/Viking history (or something adjacent), but only had one seminar about norse religion??? And doesn't even know who the Norns, Mimir, or the Allfather are??? Her stupid questions might have been included for the readers benefit, but I hated them. With a burning passion

The first book ends with a cliffhanger and nothing is resolved whatsoever. I'm afraid I have to continue reading, my brain won't stop thinking about it otherwise.

An interesting start to an Omegaverse series. The incorporation of Norse folklore makes the story stand out (compared to other ones). My only issue was the incorrect grammar; hopefully, it improves in the next book.

So maybe I'm a total noob or maybe, just maybe, the blurb for this book should have mentioned these gods are ALPHAS! Yes, yes, I know the trilogy is called "The Omega Prophecy", however not all readers understand that "omega' is automatically in the world of Alphas, Omegas and Betas.

What confused me further was that my minute understanding of the alpha/omega dynamic is that these are werewolf terms so I spent multiple chapters wondering what the hell I was actually reading; Am I reading about Norse Gods and Vikings or werewolves? Once my understanding dawned that this is some mix of both genres I settled in for the ride, which to be honest.... was a little, no, a lot frustrating.

The term Omega is used 153 times in this book, Alpha coming in just shy with 147 uses and lets not forget the absolute abundance of toxic masculinity. It was brain numbing and infuriating all at once, the only one I didn't want to throat punch was Grim and honestly that's only because he wasn't really seen in much of this book. It could change though because yes I am bitching this book out BUT I will absolutely be reading the next two, hoping that Nora Ash redeems her writing and the story itself picks up.

The plot felt a little bit "what can go wrong did go wrong" and nothing really felt like it stood out enough to be an OMG moment. Annabel being r*ped in the first few chapters, not once but TWICE felt like way too much and I almost stopped reading at that point but against my better judgement I continued.

Personally I think the only male character this book that has any type of redemption is Saga and even that was a very iffy redemption.

As I wrote previously; Although I am bitching and this was only a 3star read for me I will push through to the next book in hopes it picks up.

Five gods are coming for her and they expect her to give in totally but they do not know her. She is something more and she is not just going to let them take control. She is the only one who can save everyone including the gods. How is she going to do it? Can she save them all? See if she can

2.25/5 stars. I wanted SO badly to love this book- but the direction of the plot plummeted faster than my hopes could even keep up with. Honestly the last nail in the coffin for me was how she saved his life, like, I’m sorry, I have basically no limits but even that had me rolling my eyes.

Hoo boy. This was gross. If I hadn’t, stupidly in retrospect, added this book to my RHR TBR Busting Bingo card I would have never finished this book.

Brace yourself for a rant, but in short:
Sex Rape at 23%, 27% and near rape at 57% — there is no consensual sex in this book
Explicit description of rape scenes(allow me to clarify: the author does not write these scenes as full blown rape. The MMCs rapists aren’t portrayed as bad men and the FMC, despite referring to these encounters as rape later on, does not suffer any ill affects or mental turmoil.)
Constant references to impregnating the FMC
No MM or FF
Toxic Masculinity like I’ve never read before
Weak FMC

Commence rant:
Listen. I’m no shrinking violet, I can appreciate non-con, some primitive caveman masculinity and, specifically in omegaverse books, a character’s nature overriding their sense.

But this book has some of the most despicable, deplorable, disgusting scenes I’ve ever read. I don’t mean that in a “wink wink have a change of panties on hand” kind of way. I mean that in a “I’m actually offended on behalf of womankind” sort of way.

The first three sexual encounters in this book are literally rape. The FMC says “no” or “wait” multiple times and her statements are not respected and she does not have some kind of inner monologue where she realizes she had a non-con fetish or something. Because IMO that’s the only way this works. The rapists never once acknowledge her as having opinions/feelings/ideas that deserve to be respected, and I don’t just mean in the bedroom (or cave as the case may be.) She is, quite literally, a fuck doll and a broodmare. And this is even brought up, albeit basically in passing, but never addressed outside of absolutely vile and toxic displays of masculine posturing that absolutely reeks of tiny dick syndrome.

Around 50%, that’s something like 150 pages later for reference, the FMC has a little thought that goes something like “my body craves them.” Which, yeah, I bet it does. You’re an omega and they’re alphas. But you’re also your own person and deserve to have your opinions and decisions respected. Again, I get that a lot of the appeal in omegaverse is the primal need overriding common sense but I have never seen a character’s verbalized requests ignored so blatantly and damagingly. The reason this works in omegaverse is because the alphas are tempered by the omegas and at least one of them trusts their instincts implicitly meaning one of two things:
1. The alpha(s) give in to their nature to spoil/protect/shelter/care for the omega, ultimately giving her everything she asks for (like consensual sex!) or everything she doesn’t know she needs (this doesn’t include rape!)
2. The omega is able to trust that the alphas have her best interest at heart and thus easily open a line of communication with them (such as “please stop raping me” and knowing they would stop)

Which brings me to my next point. This character repeatedly says to her rapists that they raped her, that she will never give them offspring, that she will never willingly sleep with them or forgive them etc etc etc.

Not only does this concept of her accusing them of rape never get considered seriously by any of the characters including the FMC but this omega consistently fails to deliver on her threats. She is legitimately playing in to her rapists’ beliefs that she’s a weak-willed creature in need of constant “training” by making these threats and failing to deliver. I don’t mean to victim blame because she shouldn’t have to prove that she’s strong-willed to avoid being raped but maybe have a little self awareness, lady. These brutes think they know what’s best for you and you’re just complaining to complain (I guess?). So by going all soft around the edges you’re basically reinforcing that ignorance. And don’t give me that “this is how it was in ancient Iceland/Asgard” bullshit because this book was written by a modern author with modern themes, directed at a modern audience. If the author had decided to give in completely to the rape this could have worked.

What I mean by that is make the romance dark. Make the rapists rapists instead of Bull-headed men who believe they’re doing right by their omega/designation/family. Make the rapists consciously choosing to be rapists instead of overgrown children with daddy issues who are simply oblivious to the affect a forced mate/bond/rape can have on a person.

Which is absolutely nothing if this FMC’s inner monologue is anything to go by. Not once does she consider the ramifications of having people force their wills on her. When she isn’t not thinking about the fact she was raped she’s saying shit inside her head she never even attempts to say out loud. Allegedly she’s going along with this hair brained scheme because she believes the bond can stop Ragnarok somehow, and does she explain that to the rapists? Not really. IIRC she says something like “I’m only going with you if you promise to help me stop Ragnarok” and takes her rapist’s response as truth.

Sis, he raped you. Why are you trusting this asshole to do anything because you asked him to? The rapists basically say out loud that their will is law and she can just STFU.

I understand the use of miscommunications as plot devices, but they’re weak plot devices when they’re drug out through the entire book. She doesn’t even seem to understand the biology/drives of omegas and alphas. This is such a weak plot device that doesn’t serve any purpose but to pad out the page count. Something that could have been hand waved as a one hour lecture in high school health class. What is the purpose of this FMC being presented as so damn weak-minded and weak-willed against these determined rapists? It’s a one-sided fight!

Don’t even get me started on the Ragnarok plot. At least the rapists all admit they’re raping her to save themselves and their daddy issues. None of them think for a second to believe that the vision/destiny whatever they were told was told in a way to manipulate them? The rapists don’t even question that the FMC was told a different version of events, it’s obviously because without the illusion of independence she’d never have gone along with the alphas.

Which fucking fair point douchebag, but what makes you think the people delivering these prophecies have YOUR best interests at heart as opposed to hers?

This is basically just anger porn with no relief. Anger edging. No one learns from their actions, there’s no growth of the FMC in to a strong badass and no emotional maturity found in a single one of the rapists or would be rapists. There isn’t even any groveling, which wouldn’t appeal to me anyway but at least I would have understood the point of reading all these rape and abuse scenes.

This FMC was absolutely abused and manipulated at every turn with none of the relief or vindication one might get from groveling or payback. I don’t care how many more books are in this series there is nothing redeeming about the first book to ever encourage me to read another thing by this author.

Stay away from this book.

Personally, a jealous / possessive hero is my favorite type of hero and I therefore enjoy reading Omegaverse as it is (usually) the norm for this genre. This is however the first time I read a RH (Reverse Harem) Omegaverse book and I was a bit sceptical how it would work and if there would still be that element of possessiveness, but the author managed pull it off very well and I loved it.

First, we are introduced to Annabel, the human heroine, who suddenly must accept that she is destined to have 5 mates AND has to help prevent the end of the world/s and everyone in it when all she wants to do is continue with her studies. The heroes (Saga, Bjarni, Grim, Magni and Modi) are the sons of Loki and Thor and all come across as alpha-holes, with the exception of Bjarni, and I found myself first rooting for one and then changing my mind and rooting for the other – you will see exactly what I mean once you read the book. I must add that although Modi is mentioned in this book, he has not yet made an appearance and without giving away too much – I can’t wait to read more about Grim.

Ragnarök Rising is the start of a new trilogy, written from a multiple pov with an easy flow to it and has good steamy scenes. I consider this book to be a fast burn because things do get heated quite quickly, but then it cools off only to end on a HOLY HOTNESS level once again. It contains magic with large alphas (everywhere ladies) and there is forced seduction to a degree -- “no, but yes please”. I really recommend you give it a read if you enjoy a well-written Omegaverse with a bit of a twist. However, please be aware that it does end in a cliffhanger and as I write this review, I will be anxiously waiting to hear when the next book releases.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review

rapey

I just…don’t, for any reason, find alpha guys who think women’s place is on their back or their knees, attractive. The MC in this book is raped. Repeatedly. It’s sugar-coated, like just because she’s turned on that makes it ok. It doesn’t. I don’t have anything against a dominant male, or even a few of them, but I need them to respect the MC. And in this book? They don’t. I DNF at like 65%. I also can’t stand a MC who is put in a place of having absolutely no power, magical or otherwise. She has no option but to take it, because they’re bigger and stronger. What’s the point about reading about a relationship like that? Because it’s not a relationship. She is completely steamrolled in every way and by everyone. Not my kind of story, next.

Wait until these Viking demi-gods get their filthy hands on her

I was surprised that there's a little bit of a playful aspect to the story. It's still dark and dirty but there are some lighter moments and some funny exchanges between Anabel and her mates that keep the story really fun to read. Her mates mean business but they still joke around or tease each other, but these moments of levity don't take away the overall feel to the story.

If you're unfamiliar with this author, you should really read the preface to see if this is the kind of book you'd like to read. It explains what an Omegaverse is and lists some of the other themes that might not be for everyone.

Viking God Omegaverse sign me up. I am a huge fan of Nora Ash's books and this was no exception. I loved the push and pull of the characters. It did need more clothing optional interaction and I expect we will get more in the following books. It does end with a cliffhanger.
The heroes are alpha to the extreme bordering on Alpha ass... but what do you expect it is an Omegaverse. I look forward to seeing Annabel become more of a bad ass heroine.
To me this book is the build up for what is to come. I hope Ms. Ash does not disappoint (I don't expect she will).
Highly recommend to anyone who loves Alpha males, Viking myths, and strong female characters.

This was a great reverse harem read with so much adventure, mystery, suspense, and so much steam! I was glued to the pages, wondering what twist would happen next. It was utterly captivating! Nora Ash is a wonderful writer and knows how to capture an audience! Highly addictive! Can't wait for the next one, give it to me!!!!!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Nope, that's not dubcon.

I wanted to like this book. It's steeped in Norse mythology and very well-written. What I can't get past, though, is that the heroine straight up says no and the men keep going. That's not dubcon, that's just rape. The heroine even calls the men on it and they gaslight her. There's character development and they get a little better, but I just can't get over how terrible the setup is.

I must be honest about a couple of things here.

First, I am not a reader of Omegaverse fiction, so I may be missing something that fans of that genre enjoy.

Second, I could not finish this book and that is rare for me as I usually stick with a book until the end to give it a chance to redeem itself.

Having said that, I could not even call this book a romance. While I understand that sometimes it is therapeutic for trauma victims to replay their trama, this book should definitely come with a trigger warning. There is no love, only bonding and bondage. It appears the author was attempting to increase the strength of her main character as things went forward, but I did not get the sense that this would happen as it only appears she is being told she is special and does not appear to find strength inside herself at any point outside of her anger.

The depictions of sex are unquestionably assault even if initially there is consent, there are things that occur in each encounter that are not consensual.

It does not depict healthy relationships in any form and the most interesting character appears to be building up to villainy, which on its own isn't bad, simply that the "good guys" are all awful.

The characters are so poorly written I could not care about any of them and the plot plods along so slowly the reader only learns things in data dumps from characters.

If my descriptions depict something that peaks your interest then do not let me stop you from your enjoyment, but I cannot recommend this book to anybody.

I am about to utter a phrase I swore I never would, please prepare yourself however you feel is appropriate. Maybe put some pearls on to vlutvh or find a fan to flutter vigorously.
This book has too much sex. I know, I know, I’m sure the world is about to end, which would be appropriate because of the book title.
I am usually able to throw all the rules of everything out the window when reading fantasy or paranormal. I am aware that all these worlds have their own rules and as long as the author abides by their own edicts, it’s fine.
However, this book does not operate within those confines. Not to mention it’s very rape-y and that’s not a word I often use outside of romance pre 200’s or maybe 2010’s.
I love mythology and am intrigued by the omegaverse so the combination seemed great. Not to mention that there is sex magic which, again, I am onboard for.
This book has all the word it needs to tell it but somehow it doesn’t work. The characters are flat and outlined by their adjectives.
There’s more but I cannot find my own words so
I’ll just close with, the idea is good, this book is not.

TW: It gets a little rapey at times. Like, willing omegaverse rape, but still a little rapey, so be mindful of that, if that’s a trigger for you.
That being said, it’s not great, but it is fun. The books are definitely too long, so there’s that, but the FMC does have five mates, and that shit just takes time, you know? lol.
Anyway, as a Scandinavian, I was fully prepared to witness some Marvel level cultural appropriation of Norse Mythology, but I have to say, it sounds like Nora Ash actually did some research and tried to incorporate the mythology as best she could into this fun (not so) little story of fetishising Viking men (hey, I’m not mad about it, but it is what it is). It’s wild to praise an author for actually opening a book, but I do appreciate that this is not a literary work that absolutely HAD to be well researched, so it’s nice to see, you know?

All in all; read it if you like omegaverse, reverse harem and Viking men.
