Jessica Mills loves the HEA found in a Hallmark movie, must have coffee first thing in the morning, and a homebody that loves living in the country. She’s definitely family-oriented and an animal lover at heart except for snakes….nope! She recently relocated back to East Tennessee with her husband and daughter to be closer to family, she has a son that lives in Florida, and three furbabies that complete her everyday life. She’s always wanted to be a writer and put the stories from her head to paper. She never thought that would come to fruition until she met Ali Parker.
Wow, what a story that will hook you from the beginning. Gorgeous twin cowboys who will rope your heart and bring you on a wild emotional roller coaster ride. Delilah and Elijah are two characters who will steal your heart and steam up your Kindle. Their chemistry was off the charts and it was evident to most that they were meant for each other. What happens when the identity of Evan and Elijah is exposed? This was a great book that you will love. Great start to a new series! The authors bring strong characters in Elijah and Lilah and weaves an interesting story with secrets and lies along with a hot chemistry and growing relationship. It's well written with detailed and descriptive scenes, moves fluidly and is a fantastic read. I'm looking forward to the next book. Loved and highly recommend this book.

This was a good read. Elijah's twin brother needs him to do a job interview for him. He agrees but when he meets Delilah he takes the job himself. Eventually the truth comes out. Luckily everything works out and they get their happy ending.
This book had a couple of great things going for it. First it was free, and second I had high expectations from the blurb so I was looking forward to reading it. While for the most part I enjoyed the premise, and I did like the characters, I found a lot of the characters in this book to be immature and as a result, felt like I was reading about high schoolers rather than adults. The hero of the story kept a secret from the heroine as you know from the blurb, but he took it too far. He had so many opportunities to come clean and he just let it drag on and on so I became frustrated because I knew when the sh*t hit the fan it wouldn’t be good.
In addition there were quite a few grammatical errors and typos. Normally that wouldn’t have really bothered me but because I was frustrated with the story it kind of did.
That said, I don’t want you to feel that I completely disliked this book because that is not the case. Overall it was an enjoyable read and most of my frustrations came from the character’s immaturity and the fact that the hero kept up his lie for way too long. In fact he is very lucky to have his happily ever after.
So this series has a total of eight siblings. We get to briefly meet them in this book and I admit to being very curious about a few of them and am interested in reading their stories. The next book in the series just so happens to be about the brother that I’m not particularly fond of so I am very curious to see how the author redeems him. I don’t know when, but I will be continuing the series.
This is my honest an unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it.
“Whiskey Wild” is a wonderfully entertaining story about two people who are pulled outside their comfort zones and into one another’s arms. During the process they learn a lot about themselves, and about one another.
Among the eight adult children of the MacAllen family in Whiskey River, there is one set of twins - Elijah and Evan. Although they look alike, the twins couldn’t be more different. Elijah loves the family ranch, and although he dates occasionally, he’s extremely respectful of women, and he always believes in doing the right thing by people. In contrast, Evan hates working on the ranch, is constantly flitting from one female conquest to the next and seems to constantly be in trouble with everybody. When Elijah reluctantly agrees to pretend to be his twin at a job interview, he has no idea that meeting prospective boss Lilah Clarke is going to forever change his life. Lilah is intensely focused on taking her career (and her life) to the next level by successfully heading up a new branch location for her corporate employer. She lives her life by a set of strict, self-imposed rules. When she hires the charming cowboy who unexpectedly applies for a sales job, she doesn’t realize how many of her rules are going to be incinerated. And when Elijah gets the job he interviewed for as Evan, he can’t bear to think of the beautiful Lilah working with and being seduced by his womanizing brother, so he makes a huge decision:
“ “I’m taking the job,” he said out loud with confidence. As soon as he said it, he knew it was the right decision. It wasn’t one Evan was going to like, but his brother had done his fair share of shit to piss Elijah off, so why not return the favor just this once? ”
There are times at which the interactions between Elijah and Lilah are comical, and at other times they’re stressful. At different moments in the book you may want to alternately shake each of the main characters and yell at them to get out of the way of their own happiness. But fear not, everything comes together in a seriously lovely way. I thought the author did a terrific job creating the world in which these characters live, and giving us a wide array of secondary characters whose stories I really want to know. All of Elijah’s siblings and Lilah’s best friend are intriguing, so I’m sincerely hoping this book is the first of what will be a long series.
A great start to a sizzling new series. I love to read Jessica Mills and Ali Parker books and together as a team is exceptional. With the old saying "Different sides of the same coin" going through my mind, it perfectly describes twins Elijah and Evan MacAllen. Where Evan is happy entertaining a different woman any given time, Eli lives and breathes the family ranch. That is until the day Evan gets too "tied up" to show up for a job interview and enlists the help from Eli go play the twin switcharoo. Eli knows nothing about selling anything especially insurance but when he meets the boss, Lilah, all bets are off. Lilah transferred to Lubbock from Huston with the hope of going back to her life and somewhat of a boyfriend in a year. She's attracted go her new hire Evan, which is actually Eli, but there are rules and Lilah is a stickler for rules. One thing Eli didn't count on was his brothers bad reputation and nobody wanting to purchase anything from him. Getting Lilah to his family's ranch just night be the thing that will bring Eli and Lilah together at last, but the lies are eating him up. What starts as attraction steadily grows, act least until the truth comes out. How can Lilah ever trust Eli again?? Will Eli get a chance to show Lilah has the self?? Grab your copy and get cozy for this wild ride!!! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and happily purchased a copy for my favorites collection. Looking forward go the next book in this series.
This book is fun and funny with lots of steam and angst. I love just about any story that has one or more of the main characters pretending to be something or someone they’re not, so this book caught and held my attention pretty much from the beginning. Eli is the opposite of his twin brother in just about everything but looks. It was worlds of fun watching him pretend to be Evan, even when it only got him deeper in trouble. Lilah was more difficult for me to wrap my heart around. She’s got an image in her head of what her perfect future looks like and it doesn’t have anything to do with the good-hearted countryfolk around her other than as a steppingstone to bigger and better things back in the city. However, it was very special to see when that city-girl reserve cracked, and we got a look at the special woman who stole Eli’s heart. The MacAllen family is big, gruff and easy to love. Elijah may be my current favorite, but I suspect each one of the siblings is going to steal my heart in their own books. I can’t wait to read them all now. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
It doesn’t get any better than Jessica Mills and Ali Parker. Magnificent. Love at first sight, at least it was for Elijah. Love overflows your heart in this book. Twins are always up to trouble and when Evan begs Elijah to cover his interview, that’s when the trouble starts. Elijah meets Lilah and is totally smitten with her and must take the job so he can be with her every day. Lilah has her life all planned out and lusting after “Evan“ is not part of her plan, but she can’t fight it. Sparks fly whenever they’re in the same room together and immediately Elijah knows Lilah is “the one“. Thrilling, romantic, with bouts of despair and fear because of the deceit. Lilah is a woman to put on a pedestal and love forever and Elijah intends to do that for the rest of his life. He loves her like no other and no one can love her like he does. You will be clapping with happiness by the end. An absolutely fantastic book that keeps you wondering page after page. A must read. Since this is the first book in the series, I am sure they are all going to be a must read. And I am going to read all of them! Bring on the next brother! I’m ready! Fantastic.
This book got better as it went. I found the beginning was a bit slow and I did not feel that we got a good handle on the characters.
But as the book progressed, I did enjoy the relationship between Delilah and Elijah. Or is it Evan... Twin brothers who one is a womanizer and this has caused more problems for Elijah especially now that he has met Delilah. She is who Elijah wants to spend his life with...But he has to first let her know that even though she met him as Evan, he is not his brother. Once that hurdle has been taken care of, Elijah can move forward.
But Delilah has an issue with her attraction to Elijah\Evan, he works for her and that is frowned upon with Head Office. But she just can't stop thinking about him. And once she met his family, and stayed at the farm, she was a goner.
Can she follow her plans and work to get back to Houston, or will she find that what she is really looking for is right in front of her.
I received a free copy of the steamy Whiskey River, Texas set novel Whiskey Wild: the MacAllen Boys Book 1: Elijah and Lilah by Jessica Mills and this review was given freely.
Interspersed with colorful and quaint sayings, this novel contains a good introduction to the large and at times rough and rowdy MacAllen family, the inhabitants of Whiskey River, Texas as well as the joys and pitfalls of life in a small town.
A supposedly harmless charade to impersonate his brother Eli during a sales job interview with Agribusiness Insurance’s Regional Manager, Delilah Clark, results in Elijah “Eli” MacAllen stuck between a rock and a hard place in this constantly shifting story of impersonation and instant attraction where a precarious work place romance is built on good intentions but threatened by both Eli’s lies and his twin Evan’s loose morals.
This is book 1, I have read them out of order, but each story is good. This series is about a small town, large family, all finding their ways in life. Overview; Elijah was use to his twin brothers tactics. Elijah was the good twin and his twin brother Evan was the hand full. So it was no surprise when his brother called asking favors. Today was no different. Get dressed up and pretend to be Even and go to his brothers job interview since he was too wrapped up in a girl at the moment. That was all good until he met the boss doing the interview for a new insurance company coming into town. Delilah or Lilia was the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. Now he decides to take the job just to win her over. It was all good until she found out he was a twin and the wrong twin. But will they find a meeting ground or will they fall apart?
Elijah and Evan are twins who look alike but have different personalities. Elijah loves the family ranch and respectfully dates women. He believes in treating people kindly and doing what's right. Evan hates working on the ranch and goes from woman to woman without a second thought. Eli steps in for Evan on a job interview and decides to take the job for himself.
Delilah is the regional manager for a company who sells agribusiness. She is career driven and thinks that once she moves back to the city she will get back with her ex. She has set rules she follows but doesn't realize how many rules will be broken when she hires the cowboy.
This was an interesting storyline and the characters kept me entertained. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series.
In Whiskey Wild, straight-laced Elijah MacAllen does something he would normally never do, pretend to be his wild twin brother Evan. After Evan is literally tied up and about to miss a job interview that would get Evan off his family farm, Eli goes as him, only to be completely taken with his new boss, Lilah.
Lilah has a rule for everything, and makes sure to follow them. That’s why dating her employee is a big no-no. Once she meets Evan, she’d never been so conflicted about following the rules in her life.
The chemistry between the two was immediate, and the tension was felt the whole time as Eli was conflicted about coming clean and possibly losing Lilah, and Lilah needing to figure out what this means for her career.
The writing is engaging and the plot is entertaining with Eli getting caught up in Evan’s past.
I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys following the journey while young adults find their way through both love, career and family.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book, I loved the characters and the impossible position Eli found himself in! I used to go to school with identical twins who regularly changed places with each other so I could see how this would work. I loved that Eli knowing his twin's faults was willing to help by attending an interview in his stead.
The romance which developed was so well done too, the lifestyle may be slower than Delilah was used to but their romance developed quickly, but can something based on a lie and a big lie at that work?
Eli and Delilah are great together, their story draws you in, you can't help wanting things to work out for them, but will they realize that love is what matters most and if they get that right then everything else will eventually work out?
WHISKEY WILD (The MacAllen Family #1) By Jessica Mills & Ali Parker This is my first book by Jessica Mills, but I have been a fan of Ali Parker’s books for years so I thought I would give this new series a try. This is a fun read about twin brothers that can pass for each other. This is Elijah’s story, he is the responsible twin who works on the family ranch and is always bailing Evan out. Evan is the twin that is a player, who is always looking for a way off the ranch. When Evan gets caught in a comprised position and cannot make it to a job interview he convinces Elijah to do the interview for him. This is a very entertaining read and I am looking forward to the rest of the siblings getting their stories. This is a 5 star read.
I purchased the entire series because it sounded fun. This started out interesting enough however as I got into the story it seemed repetitious. Seemed Elijah kept digging himself into a bigger hole and Lilah was too interested in getting another promotion and back to Houston to a boyfriend that seemed he was more interested in his career and his social status putting her low on the totem pole. I got the impression Lilah was nothing more than arm candy and a booty call. I'll stick with the series and finish it out. Hopefully the stories get better. I know the next one is Evan's book Elijah's player twin. This should be interesting but we shall see.
Slow pace of small town living into a fast paced romance read
Delilah, a big city girl, is looking to rise to the top of her company and accepts a transfer from Houston to Lubbock that comes with a promotion and hires Elijah, a cowboy with a secret. As the story progresses ignoring the heat becomes impossible, her plan starts to unravel, and learning the truth could spiral things further out of control. Jessica Mills brings the slow pace of small town living into a fast paced romance read in Whiskey Wild all while introducing the reader to her next family of rabble rousers, the MacAllens.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Whiskey Wild Gobsmacked! That’s the only word to describe the way Elijah MacAllen felt the first time he met Delilah Clark! Never mind that he was interviewing for a job he didn’t even want. Or that he was posing as his twin brother, Evan, who had gotten himself tied up, literally, and didn’t want to miss out on the chance at the job that would get him out of ranch work. Never mind that he had zero experience in sales, let alone insurance sales. Despite all of those factors, he wanted the job because he wanted to be close to Delilah! A city meets country love story with lots of humor and hot love scenes. Wonderful start to a new series by Jessica Mills and Ali Parker! A Must Read!
Very enjoyable series start. Identical twin brothers--spells trouble. Evan has always been the playboy of the brothers and when he becomes tied up, literally, and unable to make a job interview he convinces Elijah to fill in for him. When Elijah meets Lilah, the boss, he is smitten and continues to impersonate his brother to get to know Lilah better. Oh but the trouble that follows, from trying to sell insurance when he has no clue how, to being threatened by an irate father, and so much more. Great story with wonderful characters, and with eight siblings I can see this series going on for a good long time. I'm ready!
I just love stories about a TDH, sexy cowboy. Elijah is the good twin who subs for his bad boy twin Evan for a job interview. When Elijah meets Delilah, Lilah, he is instantly attracted to her. For her there was something about him that had her heart racing. This book was funny and romantic as the MacAllen family interact and Elijah tries to win Lilah. The only complaint I have is we know Elijah was pretending to be Evan, but the story would refer to him as Evan when he was talking to Lilah. It was confusing and annoying when it should've just used his real name. Other than that, I did enjoy the story and liked the ending.
A fast paced romance in a small town From the very beginning to the last word you’ll be so entertained you won’t want to put this book aside. Lilah and Eli are terrific characters that are hard to resist as they are always challenging each other as well as some of the restrictions they face. He is a “country boy” and she is a “city girl”. Their goals are entirely different. What do they have in common in addition to be exceedingly honest and attracted to each other? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was a wonderful story of a young woman that is climbing the corporate ladder and gets a transfer. She is doing a interview with a man that has a twin that is unable to come. So his brother takes his place. They are completely different as the one wants a business job and the other is a Cowboy. But the Cowboy is there and falls for the woman that interviewed him as his wild brother. He gets the job but what will happen when sge finds out that he’s not who she thinks he is? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This was a relaxing and enjoyable read. The story is about Elijah and Delilah. Elijah has a twin and he is the mature one, his twin, not so much. He finds himself in a situation where he steps in for his brother to go to a job interview in his place. He is fully aware that woman he adores, is doing the interview. He decides to take the job and act as his brother Evan. Delilah is immediately attracted to the handsome cowboy she is interviewing as a potential insurance salesman even though the brother, Evan does not have a good reputation among the farmers surrounding the town of Lubbock.
Jessica Mills is a new to me author and after finishing this book, I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series! Loved the character development: the lengths Eli went through for his twin brother, but how that one favor changed the course of his life. I loved seeing him attempt to behave like his brother, those moments had me laughing out loud. Lilah on the other hand? It took me a while to warm up to her, simply because I didn't like how she didn't really think all that highly of the population of Whiskey River except how they're just a part of her plan of being bigger and better in the city. The city ain't all it's cracked up to be, but it takes a surprising connection with Eli to get her to see past the calling of the city and look into her heart.
This is a brilliant read. There is an instant attraction between Lilah and Eli but he is not who she thinks he is. He is standing in for his twin brother Evan at a job interview and when given the job he finds that he can't tell her the truth. Lilah has her future mapped out but when she starts to fall for Eli everything changes. Will she forgive him when she finds out who he really is? A must read with plenty of emotion and drama but also so much love and a family that always has your back. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
This is the first book in The MacAllen Family Series. Elijah and Lilah's story is sweet, funny, sexy, and heartwarming, filled with drama, angst, and twists and turns. Elijah is handsome, caring, and supportive. Lilah is strong, independent, and smart. They are perfect together. I loved Elijah's family! Evan, Elijah's twin, is such an intriguing and entertaining character, and I would love to have his story. The supporting characters are great and interesting. This is a great contemporary romance, and I enjoyed it. Looking forward to read the next book in the series.
This is my first read by this author, and I must say I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It is a sweet romance between Elijah and Lilah . These likeable characters and the unique plot make for an entertaining read. It is a love story with enough drama, sweetness, frustrating moments, humor, steam, plus engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. A quick read with a small town feel.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
