***** 4 Stars *****

The Bulletproof Boy didn't give me the same feelings I got from The Fireproof Girl, but I still found it enjoyable.

The story focuses on Cole and goes into his background. His complicated history with Sophie is explained, and we also dive into his troubled past. We even find out why he wants everyone to think he is dead.

I really liked the characters and plot, and I thought it was pretty cool how there was a connection to Loretta Lost's Clarity series. But there were things that just fell a bit flat for me. Although this second book wasn't a 5 star book to me, I'm interested in finding out how this series will end.

I have been looking for this book for sometime. Right after I read The Fireproof Girl, the one before this, I promised myself I will have to get my hands on the next book. Thanks to Giselle of Xpressobooktours, she had this available for review. I think I will hate myself if I am not able to read this book and continue the story of Sophie and Cole.

Book 1 -- The Fireproof Girl ended with a suffocating cliffhanger. It was apparent that I needed to read The Bulletproof Boy as if my life depended on it. It was air to my oxygen-deprived lungs.

Loretta Lost is one exceptionally gifted writer. I think she writes as easily as she breathes. This second installment turned out way better than I expected. The intensity was fully turned up. I was so over the moon for the way this book turned out. I was happy that finally Sophie and Cole worked out their issues and decided to stick together. To stay glued to each other no matter what happens. To never let each other out of sight again.

Details of Sophie's past and origin have been discovered and I was as thrilled and nervous as her of finally meeting her blood relations. I can't wait to find out what was the harrowing story behind her being left at the side of the highway. There was also a flashback on what happened to Cole right after the fire in The Fireproof Girl. It provided a better understanding of the difficult and painful lives these two had. It also proved that together these two were resourceful beyond imagination and unbeatable. And that they had too many people that had it against them and are viciously out for revenge. Will these two ever have a peaceful, happy and carefree life?

The story as a whole had a lot of things going really well for Sophie and Cole though before they got there, they had to endure excruciating physical, mental and emotional pain. Sophie had to bring in her tougher and meaner persona to be able to survive and live through all the heartaches. And Cole had to go back on his words and to civilization so he could protect his dear Sophie. From being two orphans and foster home kids, they have made a successful career for themselves. They have shed their fears and have resolved a lot of issues between them. Now, they are ready to face all their demons as long as they have each other.

I give the book 5/5 red sexy high-heeled stilettos. I lot of things have been revealed about Sophie and Cole which added to the intensity of the story. They were totally so unexpected but were the best parts. My only concern was the ending. I wanted to slap Sophie. It was so dumb and so not her to have ended that way. Where was the martial arts training Levi had taught her? It was time she put them to real use but she made a wrong move. I totally did not approve of this version of Sophie. This was the worse place and time for her to act out of character. The cliffhanger ending was so out of the left field that I totally could not believe that it was happening. Like Sophie, I am hoping that her knight and the rest of her family will come to her rescue. I hated the ending but it just made the next book all the more not-to-be-missed. I think I will definitely lose it if I don't get to read it. Please Giselle, make sure to have The Shatterproof Heart on your for review list.

I am definitely not going to have a good sleep until I read the next book --The Shatterproof Heart. I think the pressure has built up and it's about to go over the rim and reach the boiling point. Gosh, I can't wait to find what explosive and heart-stopping events Loretta Lost has hidden in her crazy, twisted and talented mind of hers for the next book. I am absolutely psyched. The lookout for The Shatterproof Heart starts now. I hope it's not the last book yet. In as much as I hate these two beautiful creatures to continue suffering, but I also don't want their story to end. No, these two had to continue! Though maybe, less of the living-dangerously-thing and being bullied. Maybe, these two can show how ruthless a lifetime's worth of payback is.

I think after The Shatterproof Heart, Loretta Lost is definitely joining my favorite authors' list. Congratulations! You are undoubtedly a keeper.

Life is a constant, backbreaking struggle. Real, worthwhile relationships require effort, and true love feels like you're in a scene from Ben-Hur, rowing madly in a slave ship, rowing your heart out to stay alive.

Thanks again, Loretta Lost and Giselle of Xpressobooktours for the review copy.

Often, overcoming our own issues is more of a challenge than the problems we face. That’s what Sophie and Cole taught me in this book, and it’s worth learning. Watching them find the strength to take care of business was just so satisfying and heartwarming; to me, that’s what keeps the pages turning.
I really love this story and the direction that it took. After the adventures of TFG, we find our brave heroes and heroines facing a future that no one had planned for. Now, each of them has to figure out what went wrong, where they are now, and who do they want to be. Few things are more motivating than the promise of a better future, and it’s impossible not to root for them to reach for their new goals. This doesn’t apply just to Sophie and Cole, but also to Detective Rodriguez, Zack, and others.
I think it’s impossible to review this book without mentioning the ending because it’s just so epic. You can feel the anticipation and tension building every single chapter, but when you finally reach the high points of those last few arcs, the book kicks it up a gear… and then several more. I want more of Sophie and Cole. I NEED to find out what’s going to happen next, and I can’t wait for the next story.
Also, I’m so happy two people got together. Victory ship!

THE BULLETPROOF BOY - LORETTA LOST: A REVIEW
“I was inspired by this girl we both know,” Cole tells Zack softly. “She calls herself fireproof. I figure that if she’s willing to walk through the fire for me—the least I can do is try my best to become bulletproof for her.”

A BRIEF SYNOPSIS
Sophie and Cole are reunited! After Sophie refused to accept that Cole, her foster brother turned husband turned ex, was dead, she walked for 24 hours across the Nevada desert to prove her point. The two reunited, and begin navigating how they will be together now that Cole is dead and there is a murderer on the loose. Cole also seemed to have tracked down Sophie’s Biological family. Sophie has to figure out how to handle Cole, her ex-boyfriend/bodyguard Zack, her boss at the CIA, and now her biological family.

THINGS I LIKED
In my last review, I went on and on about how much I truly loved Cole. I feel like that did carry over into this book as well. We got to hear more about his point of view during different situations. I adored Lucianna with my entire heart. She was the comedy that the book needed. I felt like we got a good taste of everyone in this book, and I’m looking forward to getting even more in the next one.

THINGS I FELT NEUTRAL ABOUT *SPOILERS*
I was okay with a lot of things. The big reveal about the bad guy wasn’t all that surprising to me. My overall opinion of the book is very neutral. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. Those cliffhangers still get me every single time though.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE *SPOILERS*
This was the part of the review I was deeply dreading. I adored Cole as a character until we got to the sex. Cole just seemed really, really oblivious to the feelings that Sophie was having throughout most of it. She seemed to be struggling, and then he says this:

This left me stunned. Like just baffled at the audacity coming out of this man. The woman he loves is crying and this is how he reacts? Where did the sweet Cole that I adored go? The entire chapter just gave me the major ick.

CONCLUSION
Ultimately, I am not that picky of a reader. After the strange events in the middle of the book, I very much contemplated DNFing this book. I am not a person that DNFs books. It really shocked me that badly. The second half of the book did help a lot in making me want to continue. I just had to take a minute to move past the part that left me confused. The ending of this book left me worried for Sophie’s safety, and Cole’s sanity, and even more curious about if we will get a romance out of our favorite side characters.

This is my second book from Loretta Lost and I really the Sophie Shields series. I should tell you that you need to read the first book, The Fireproof Girl in order to read The Bulletproof Boy because this book picks up where the first book ended with a cliffhanger. I did a review on the Fireproof Girl just a few days ago and once again, it hooked me from the first page to the last one!

The book starts with Cole in the present of 2016 before and after he gets shot. Cole had been poisoned before he gets shot and he decided to fake his death for many reasons. I understood why he felt the need to fake his death and his motivations behind it. Cole gets to enjoy a few days of tranquility and sleep until Sophie/Scarlet came along to actually find him. She thought he left her clues to find him but he never intentionally left her any clues but at the same time, he is glad that she came all this way to find him. They both will try to work out their issues as a couple. Until Luciana, Sophie’s CIA boss shows up with information that makes them return to civilization and try to find the killer(s) that tried to kill Cole. With the help of Sophie’s ex-boyfriend ex-military, Zach and the Detective Rodriguez, they will find those killers so they can bring them to justice. Also, Cole tells Sophie/Scarlet that he has some information about her blood relatives and encourages her to meet them. Which she does and we find out that she has a real brother and her parents are alive.

Once again, this book is written from Sophie/Scarlet and Cole’s perspective. Both characters perspectives are set in the past (2003) and in the present (2016). There were some details in the first book that left me wondered about their backstory but I felt reassured that I found some answers in the second book like about why they were apart and Cole’s murder.

There is a bit more humor in this book than the first one. I really enjoy the characters in this bool (except one which is Benjamin, he gives me the chills every time he appears out of nowhere), I find that there are some well developed relationships between main characters, Sophie and Cole, and enjoyed the supporting characters like Zach (he is still so sweet and wants Sophie back), Luciana (she is hysterical and I really like her) and Detective Rodriguez (who turns out to be cool).

The ending surprised me again with another cliffhanger and it left me hooked and wanting to know more. I’m sure in the third book of the Sophie Shields series, The Shatterproof Heart will be as suspenseful like the two first books and it will be resolved because it can’t end like that!! I really can’t wait to read the third book!!

In the mean time, I will definitely read Loretta Lost’s other series soon :) !

After reading the first book in the series I had hoped this second book would answer some of the questions I had.
Instead, I am left with even more questions as the storyline becomes increasingly complex. I feel like this storyline can be hard to follow at times with it darting in and out different passages seemingly sometimes with no connection.

The entire mausoleum chapter....wild.
That was so fast paced and came out of nowhere, I could not have predicted the scenes that they found and the whole 'red stiletto" comment needed more background. I felt like Cole acted out of character, we saw a very different murderous side to him that hasn't been seen yet. He switched personalities within the space of a paragraph.

What happened to Snow?
I was expecting that whole trope to be explained in more detail but we breezed right past that.

I still have so many questions about Zack, I feel like he's still a side character at the moment who is just pining after Sophie. I sense a deeper story underneath and want to find out why he is so protective.

I had to read the final chapter twice just to try to understand what happened and I'm still unsure. The blue eyes in the peep hole? Made me think of how Liam mentioned the clear blue eyes. Did he know who she was? Is Benjamin actually the real biological father? Thats how he found her? I feel like that's what was being eluded to. Wouldn't Sophie remember Liam from when she was a child in that house if he was actually there the whole time? Or is this where Snow comes in as she was more present during that time to protect Sophie so thats why she doesn't remember.

I am hoping I will find more answers in this very chaotic storyline with reading the next book but the way this is progressing I feel I may not recieve answers until the final book.

All in all, a confusing storyline but intriguing enough to make you keep reading. More grammar and spelling errors in this book the same as the first but easy enough to read through. As much as this style of chaotic writing frustrates me, I can't stop thinking about the characters and how deep we are into their lives.
I'm looking forward to the next two books.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

At the end of The Fireproof Girl we learn that Cole is alive and that Sophie has tracked him down. In The Bulletproof Boy we learn a little more about their lives as teenagers and what drove them apart. Then there's the whole who wanted Cole dead.

Just when you think Loretta can't write anything better than her last book you find out that you are wrong. Solid story-line, solid characters and enough twists and turns to keep you reading. And just when you think you are done she adds another twist that takes on a whole new story and that's good. We know that there is another book in the series called The Shatterproof Heart. Here's hoping it comes out soon so we can find out what happens to not only Sophie and Cole but their friends as well.

Thank you Loretta for sharing them with us.

Wow

I can't begin to explain the feeling this book leaves you with. Devastated perhaps, heartbroken, fealings of despair. The author makes you feel everything the character is feeling. Before that your feeling hope, then adventure. This I is an amazing series. I can't wait to read the next book. I have a feeling I'll be up all night.

I read The Fireproof Girl right before this book. Since I read this one right after. I though it was a great story, also because I was continuing on with the story so I had all the backstory still in my head. I think they are better read in order. They do have cliffhanger type endings or leads into the next book with questions and wanting to know what will happen next. This was a continuation of Sophie and Cole's lives. I really enjoy the mystery and suspense in Loretta Lost's stories. Thanks to Xpresso Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review. I was not compensated in any way for this review and was not asked to give a positive review.

Good mystery

I liked the mystery. The hero part little bit exaggerated . Something situation too easy to solve.

A big contradiction, she is too smart but too fool at the same time.

Next book....

After almost dying of dehydration in the hot sun while walking for 24 hours, Sophie finds a futuristic mobile home...... she's sunburned and disoriented then out comes Cole who she was told had died. That is only the beginning of a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat the WHOLE book!!! There is mystery, suspense, action, comedy, romance and even a bit of a thriller......

One of the things I love a lot about her books is that they intertwine to some degree... When Sophie meets Liam, I was so excited... since we saw this scene from Liam and Helen's viewpoint in the last Clarity book. It makes these books really special... because when a writer this good creates a story this amazing.... you never want it to end....

This series is her best yet..... she is just getting better and better with each book. It won't be long I think until we see Fireproof girl made into a movie.... it's that good.

Now to wait anxiously for the next Sophie Shields Book! A++++++++++

I was real eager to devour this book after having read the last one. It was a smooth read, taking only about eight hours before I was out of book again and wondering when the next one was going to come out. While recaps of the "other side" of the last book could have made it start out slow, that route was not taken by the author who starts us off with a healthy dose of poison and bullets to the face in just first few chapters.

If you're into mysteries and have been trying guess "whodunnit" since the last book, you're going to be in for a big (but completely believable) surprise. I guessed wrong, and I'm not even mad.

::Spoilers Below::
There is a little bit of a "recap" phase in the beginning, covering the time period that the last book took place over. You find out that Cole had been both shot and poisoned before faking his own death, as well as several other factors that encouraged him to take that path. The calm period of relaxation he experiences out on his own feels tense, because you know everything that Sophie is going through during that exact same period, and it's good to see that he feels appropriately guilty once he finds out he's responsible for that.

Their time alone makes up a good portion of the story, and combined with the same style of flashbacks as the first book manages to make two (well, three?) people hiding out in the desert a very compelling read. Somehow, an almost Arthurian Quest is dumped on them in the middle of it all, and it manages not to seem out of place. There's a (frustrating) dose of sexual tension in this book that never quite resolves itself, because there's so many other plot points that keep dousing the heroes like a cold shower.

Their idyllic sabbatical from reality is broken when Sophie's boss shows up with information that galvanizes them to return; there are murderers and would-be-assassins that need to be brought to justice. The time between them coming back to LA and the time they actually confront the bad guys seems fast; not like it's lazy, but like some bigger bad guy might have been sacrificing pawns. And there are definitely bigger, named villains that don't get their comeuppance yet. Benjamin in particular seems to agitate our distaste for him almost as if he knows that by the time he's shown up that there aren't enough pages left to punish him the way he deserves.

There's a bit more humor in this book than the last one, and some well developed relationships between the main characters and the supporting cast. I feel like we should be worried about that, considering what this author likes to do to side characters after you've gotten a chance to know and like them.

The end of the book has some tie-ins to the author's other series that readers of those books are going to appreciate; and also wonder why no one seems to be able to catch a break.

No one was happier than me when I got this baby in my kindle to review.

First, I should tell you that you would need to have read The Fireproof Girl in order to read and enjoy The Bulletproof Boy. I did a review on The Fireproof Girl not too long ago and it should come to no surprise that I fell head over heels in love with it.

The ending of The Fireproof Girl nearly gave me a heart attack, as I was so so so happy and The Bulletproof Boy takes over from right there and we get to have Cole!

On a side note, isn’t that cover totally HOT!!!??!!

I mean you cannot tell me you did not notice… really!

I loved the book, read it in one go as my usual and could not put it down, it was even better than book 1 and we have done such good progress into the story. But so much to go still!

I am going to say it, but I am sensing a pattern here in making my heart stop at the end of each book, this one is no different and I never saw that coming!

NEVER!!!!

Why??…

I don’t want to think about it too much cause it will upset me all over again, and I need to keep it on point.

If you are like me and you loved The Fireproof Girl then you will love/adore The Bulletproof Boy. However, if you are discovering the book today, then you have to go back to the beginning and work your way to here.

I promise you, you will thank me for this!

Both books are a great read, with steady pace some good action and some highly emotional moment and it a perfect combo of everything that I love in a book! It just feels like Loretta dug into my head figured out all my happy buttons to push and went to town!

I love Loretta’s writing and style overall and I am so excited by the minute to see how the series will end with the big baddie having his ass whooped!

I really hope you guys will love The Bulletproof Boy as much as I did and will want more too!

See my full review of this title on my bookblog, So Few Books, at: https://sofewbooks.blogspot.com/2017/...!

Like the predecessor volume in this series, there was a lot that I did not like about this book. First and foremost, the narrative style of switching back and forth between characters has always annoyed me. I just find it hard to follow. And this one adds an extra layer of confusion by switching time periods as well...

We do learn quite a bit more about both Scarlet and Cole, their relationship, the things in their pasts that brought them to who and where they are now. But there are still many major facets of the story that do not appear to have been revealed yet.

Some of the peripheral individuals introduced in the first book are given some more screen time in this volume and their characters are fleshed out a bit further... Additionally, a couple of new characters are introduced, who don’t get a lot of attention, but do seem like they could be major players in the future...

This story is also rather sad and depressing. There are a lot of obstacles to be overcome before the main characters can even hope to have a chance at a happily ever after ending. But there the overall tone of the storyline seemed a bit more hopeful and a better future at least a bit more possible.

...the ending of this volume absolutely infuriated me!... The ending was sad and scary and a total cliff-hanger, something I just abhor in a book series. Of course, it is going to work and I am going to race to consume the next edition as soon as possible, but I just resent the method of blatant manipulation that it implies.

I received a free eBook copy of this title from Xpresso Book Tours, and have willingly provided an honest review.

Do not read this book with out reading the first book in the series first. This is a continuing storyline and this book basically picks up where the last book picked up. I think the best way I can describe this book and series, is a complicated mystery with so many moving parts, yest at the heart of it are two damaged people desperately clinging to the love they hope to find together. The book is messy, twisty, heart breaking, dark and compelling.

This is the first book (ok, this is the second book in this series, so the first series) that I have read with a person with an alternate personality. I have studies a lot of psychology when I was in school and everything the author does makes perfect sense and is so realistic. The alter comes out when a character (who I will not name in case of spoilers, but I feel like its obvious) gets into difficult, be it emotional or physical, situations that the character can't handle on their own. The best part is how calm and accepting Cole is of the situation (it actually seemed as if he preferred Snow...), perfectly aware of the alter, accepting and willing to have a relationship with both personalities. It made the book that much more interesting and twisted.

I loved that the story started with Cole narrating in the present, leading up to why he felt the need to fake his death. His motivations and perspective really enlightened things that I had previously thought about in the first book (and made me kind of mad for his reasoning). It was also great that the viewpoints switched again to both characters as teens, I love the looks into their pasts together. The last book was narrated from teenage Cole in the past and present day Sophie/Scarlet, but this was told from Both Cole and Scarlet in the present.

The side characters here were so intriguing and I can't help but to be interested in finding out more. Agent Lopez is hysterical and I so want her to be Sophie's friend, and I heart Zack (not as much as Cole, but a large amount) and I want him more in the series, Little Ricky was a big surprise, and the one I question the most was Helen...

I loved this book, enjoying the mystery of Sophie's life, as well as the mystery of Cole's killer, winding together so smoothly. Can I just say that my absolute favorite part of the book was Cole in the mausoleum (just wait, it was great and explained the book's title even more so). There was honestly so much going on in this book, with twists and plots I never saw coming, potential danger everywhere, emotional upheavals and doubt cast on lots of side characters. I need the last book in the series as soon as possible because I have no idea how this will all end (I hope for a HEA, but I am afraid that may be wishful thinking).

I received this title in return for my honest review.

"She calls herself fireproof. I figured that if she's willing to walk through the fire for me- the least I can do is try my best to become bulletproof for her."

I feel like I can only tell you guys how awesome Lost is, before you get tired of me! But hey.. I have said it before and I will say it again... LORETTA LOST IS AWESOME! I have no idea where her ideas come from and it blows my mind that she has such a creative imagination. What a time to be a book lover! Her books just keep getting better and better!

In The Bulletproof Boy, Lost takes us back into her world with Cole and Sophie! But, in this book we get to see a little more into why Cole did what he did and his reasoning behind it. We also learn a lot more about the two as teenagers, when they were in the same foster home. Together, Sophie and Cole, decide to find out who was trying to kill Cole! You would think that it would be easy for an amazing hacker girl like Sophie, but crazy things start happening and it becomes a little more difficult than they thought it would! I am really speechless and have no idea what else to say about this book without giving away any spoilers! I just want to sit here and talk about every little detail of this book! I am really trying to control myself though.

I was so shocked at the end of this book! Lost threw the biggest curve at me! I can't imagine any author throwing a bigger curve ball! Then.. shortly after, Sophie's worst nightmare returns and then BAM.. it is the end of the book! AHHHHH how I hate cliff hangers! Well, it is more of a love hate relationship, but in this case I am dying! I need to find out what happens and I need a third book ASAP! Loretta Lost just needs to write books forever!

Lost has an extremely vivid imagination and her books take full control over me. While reading a book by Lost, I am completely lost in the story and have no sense of the world around me. Her words know how to grab you and just sweep you away into the amazing world happening in between her pages. Lost's characters are so complex and well thought out. I really fell in love with Sophie and Cole. Sophie is a bad ass young woman who could always take care of herself, but she just so happens to want Cole. The two of them together make the ultimate power couple! Put these two into the Hunger Games and they just may give Katniss And Peeta a run for their money!

I am a forever fan of Loretta Lost and you guys should all read this series! Add it to your TBR right now! You will not regret it, I promise!
