Dragon Tails #4

Myth of Dragons

Rate this book
Every lore of every clan, across time and space, dreamed of dragons. Did you ever wonder why?

Erebu and Sorin fought through countless lifetimes of trials and tribulations to find one another again. They even conquered death.

But Ere’s rebirth requires a price: he must answer the Celestial Summons when it comes and faithfully complete each task the Jade Emperor sets before him.

On the bright side, he doesn’t have to perform miracles alone. Sorin will be right there with him. One the not so bright side, his Fate, the Fate of all dragon Kind, and by extension, the Universal Balance, depend on the successful execution of each quest.

No pressure.

His fourth task is to find and retrieve the Myth of the Pale Prince. Except, this time, there’s a sudden change of players.

Location: Unknown. Time travel will be required.
Clues: Too few. But there may be faeries, changelings, and mysterious noblemen along the way.
Accompaniments: With Sorin battling unknown demons, and Ere refusing to leave his side, Benjamin volunteers to take up the quest in Ere’s stead. By his side is Annie, his best friend and blossoming fire witch. Two barely legal teenagers shouldering the fate of the world…What could go wrong?
Timing: ASAP. Determined by an arbitrary Sandglass in the Jade Emperor’s possession.

The end of the world may be just around the corner. Along the way, enemies may become lovers, lifelong friendships may form, and lots of hot, desperate, this-may-be-the-last-time-we-have-sex sex will definitely be had.

And who knows, you too may help discover the…

MYTH OF DRAGONS.

I loved everything about this book! I can't get enough of it! It's a fairytale, adventure, mystery, true love, friendship, coming-of-age, magic, dragons, everything wonderful all rolled into one!

Except for what's going on Sorin... don't really want to think about that.

At first it seems in the start of this series that it's about the continuing adventures of Ere and Sorin, but I honestly wonder now, with this game-changing book, whether this series is actually about the adventures of Ben.

Benjamin Larkin D'Angelo! Our favorite sunny boy from the Pure/ Dark Ones Series! Everyone's favorite! Now he's growing up. He's coming into his own, and boy does he ever! Brave! Smart! Loving! Best friend! Best son! with sadness in a past life he doesn't recall (but we loyal readers of both series know exactly what that is and it kills me!)

I can't wait to see Ben find his own true love as well. And come to terms with what happened before.

But of course, the true stars of this book are Brigid and Sai. My favorite heroine AND hero AND couple thus far in the series. Just utter PERFECTION!! The push and pull, the gradual reveals, the fantasy and the reality... so beautifully written and intricately described...

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

TEN AMAZING STARS!!

********************************************

Chapter 6: Unicorns and Kelpies, Oh my!!

HOLY SHIT was that AWESOME!!!

No matter how many times I read this book, it will ALWAYS be AWESOME!!!

Where to start with my review... no idea. How about the INGENIOUS setting in the Victorian era? The FANTASY and ADVENTURE! The FAIRYTALE WHIMSICAL just plain ENCHANTING romance??

How about a MMC that makes me (almost) want to renounce my claim to all the other MMCs I've fallen in love and in lust with in this author's books? JUST to claim SAI! MY SAI!!! (Thanks to Alaina for sharing).

How about a FMC who makes me want to pinch her wonderful apple cheeks and beg her to be my BFF!! Brigid is ADORABLE!!!! But not only that, she's SENSIBLE! And strong, and the perfect match for Sai!

(The Brigid in this novel doesn't look like that, but sort of with the cheeks anyway)

How about having a grown-up (19, anyway) Benjamin!! Our little Benji is a MAN!!! And he kicks ASS!!

Paired with a grown-up (18) Annie! I love little Annie! And she also kicks ASS!

And all kinds of intrigue building! RED, looking at you!!

The only thing is-- WTF is going on with Sorin??? 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 AJ, you have to fix it STAT!! My heart can't take any more of this torture! Ere deserves better!! SORIN deserves better!!!

I will keep believing in happily ever after tho. AJ hasn't let us down yet! She might just drag us through the 9 circles of HELL before she gives us the HEA tho...

READ IT ppl!! It's soooooooo effing gooooodd!!!!

I love being back in the Dragon Tails world and this time there's so much more at stake and SO much looming on the horizon. Sorin is in a coma-like state and no one knows why or how to revive him. Ere is distraught and searching for answers because without Sorin, his life is meaningless. But the price of answering the Celestial Summons doesn't rest and the Jade Emperor has a new quest.

Understandably, Ere refuses to leave Sorin's side so Ben with the soul of a saint takes up the task with his bestie Annie to retrieve the Myth of the Pale Prince.

Thrust into a world where dance cards and corsets are the norm, Ben and Annie traverse the land and discover faeries, changelings and more, as well as the woman that may save them all, Brigid. And of course the mysterious and beautiful male that captures everyone's attention, Sai.

Sai the Dragon and Brigid form an unbreakable bond and join Ben and Annie on their quest. The coming battle will be a fight for their lives and they'll need each other to complete the quest. Will Ben and Annie return with the Myth of Dragons? Will Sai and Brigid make it out together?

Like the other books in this series, I loved this one. Sai was deliciously dominant and quietly broody and Brigid was the intelligent beauty with a sunshine disposition. Sai doesn't believe he deserves much in life and has suffered greatly in his long life but it's souls like these that actually deserve it all. Brigid sees (literally) the best in everyone and everything and the potential for goodness even when there is darkness. Sai and Brigid's connection was so swoony, hot, passionate and sexy. I loved their unwavering faith and love even when things went sideways. AJ writes mated connection like no one else.

It was so fun getting to know the older Ben and Annie better and the gifts they possess. I am super excited for Annie's story with Red. I love Red and think his story will be epic. There's a lot happening in this story and a lot of building action. You won't be bored for even a second while reading this and I can't wait for what's next.

Where oh where do I even begin to tell you how much I loved this story?

I think it's known how much of a fan of Aja James I am. If not, have you really missed all of my raving reviews?

Myth of Dragons had an almost whimsical and lyrical way of telling the story. It was light and airy, with elements of darkness that in no way outshone the love and joy and connection these characters shared.

She’d never wanted anyone, anything, as much as she wanted Sai. And she never would. He was her dragon, her prince. Whatever he was called, whatever he was, he was hers. And he was waiting, now, for her to claim him. So, she would.

Ever heard the myth of the Pale Prince? He was fierce and kind, lethal and loyal, tortured and generous and full of a love unlike anything he had known before. Sai was so beautiful. I could not get enough of him. And it wasn't just the way his physical form was described, which didn't hurt. It was his heart. His very soul. He was majestic and deserved someone who could be his equal and no one was meant to stand by his side more than Brigid.

This was where he belonged.
She was his home.
There would be no other for him.
Not ever.
Brigid was life.

Where Sai was ethereal and almost unreal, Brigid was everything solid. She was honest, sweet, intuitive, loving, nurturing, and possessed magic beyond anything she could imagine. Who was she? And how did she fit into the plot? And who really cared when she was awesome and only became something better when Sai was involved?

The only truth in your statements is that you are the man I want.
The dragon I love.
I only want you.
And no matter what happens, I will always love you.
My Sai.

Another task, another journey, but this time, instead of Ere and Sorin leading the charge, it was sweet Ben and Annie who took their place. Why? OMG why is Sorin not well? Why is my heart breaking right along with Ere's? Why can't these amazing characters ever catch a break? Okay, I already know that the author is going to blow me away with what she has planned for the future of these people so I'm not really worried. I'm sure it's going to be incredible. I just have to work through this pain until then!

Sorin was the sun. He was the moon and the stars and the entire cosmos all in one. Such light, strength and goodness should never be dimmed, never mind extinguished. How would the rest of them go on? How would Ere live?

I am absolutely thrilled to have been able to not only beta this read, but to do it with such phenomenal women. Thank you so much! And if you want more of this and other reads, please check out the blog

You’d think we’d be used to Aja’s merciless torture of her heroes by now….right?
After doing so in the entire Pure/Dark Ones series?
And the first 3 stories in Dragon Tails?
Maybe she decided to shake things up a little….and,if i’m honest,we díd get our warnings….we wére already worried….
But to start with what happens to Sorin?
Thát nearly broke my heart!
Being a Muse didn’t help one little bit, because telling her how much it hurts doesn’t make her change anything….at all!!
All we can do,is have faith.
That she knows how to bring him back from wherever he is.
That she’ll have mercy on him,ánd on Ere.
After that devastating start,i braced for this quest.
Who was going to fulfill this mission if Ere and Sorin couldn’t?

Thát right there was the moment i started to enjoy the Myth of Dragons!
Because it was Benji and Annie!
I knew they’d grown up,and was hoping to see more of them….and here they were, going to Victorian Britain together to retrieve the Myth of the Pale Prince!

Benji….sorry,Ben…has always been able to see the real person behind the façade, and the Master was nót what he appeared to be.
But since he was the one giving the orders,Ben had to listen to him.
Luckily,he’d heard details from the other quests, and knew what to expect…a little. Having Annie with him, even though he worried she might get hurt, felt good.
They’d known eachother since childhood ,and were best friends.

Finding themselves in London, dressed in period clothing, they managed to adapt quickly.
And when they entered the nearby shop, they found Brigid.
She was reading a beautiful story to a captivated adience.
And a pale man, that hid behind the bookshelves….
Once the story ended,Brigid took Ben and Annie to her family’s London home.
She didn’t believe their stories, but they were good people, and meant well,thát much she knew.
Because Brigid was special. Véry special.
An orphaned relative to Lord and Lady Rathbourne, she was loved by them from the moment they took her in.
She might not think she’s beautiful like Elizabeth and Lucille, but she was content with who she was,and the life she had.
And in her dreams….in her dreams anything was possible!
There,the world was magical.
And that was where she’d meet her Pale Prince. Until the night of Lady Watham’s ball….when he stepped out of her dreams and into her world.

Sai has lead a tortured existence for ages.
Being at the mercy of his Master, who kept him barely alive, and used him for evil things he couldn’t bear thinking about.
And now he was sent to lure Brigid Titania Mackintosh to him.
To make her fall in love with him,and get her to willingly follow him to her demise.
But once he knew her, once they touched, she did something to him.
And he knew he’d do anything to save her from that awful fate.

After they were attacked,Brigid knew her Pale Prince, her Sai,was in deep trouble, and that he was badly hurt.
She knew instinctively what he needed, and made sure he got it.
What to do about his Master’s orders,thát was something else.
But she knew she needed to be at home,at Castle Mar in Scotland,to deal with that problem. Because that’s where she felt strongest…..

This quest was special. Not just because of Ben and Annie. Even though they áre special!
Finding out more about them, hearing a little about how Ben’s mysterious past affects him, even when he doesn’t know what happened….and finding out how Annie thinks about certain…”things”….

But Brigid, she’s such a wonderful girl!
Big and beautiful, with a heart to match.
A woman with a brilliant mind, and a good sense of humor.
A queen that stood by the ones she loved, that fought for those that were hers.
One i love,wholeheartedly!

And Sai,our beautiful (thank you Alaina, for sharing him!) Pale Prince!
A tortured soul, that still was so very innocent.
A dragon that still wanted to save the woman he loved more than life itself.
That was prepared to die for her,and found heaven in her arms instead.

The only part that still hurts right now, after reading the story in full as an ARC,is Sorin’s condition….and how that affects Ere.
I hope to get better news in Truth of Dragons….even if it’s a little spoonful at a time, please,Aja???

Okay, while I very much enjoy Aja's writing and this series there are a few things I wish was in them that isn't. Or maybe it's the opposite. Things that are in them that I wish wasn't?
Idk, my moods this year has been very wonky.

This series has a very definite YA feel to them but they Are Not YA. It's just something about all the characters, their personalities, that gives it that feel.

The above could be a positive or a negative, depending on who you are and your likes etc. Personally, I'm not a YA fan. But there are so many things about the characters and the story that doesn't have that YA feel that I just can't quit reading these.

I swear, they are addictive.

This one has a couple of mysteries going on and 'Baby, I am a sucker for a good mystery.'
You have something weird going on with Sorin. I'm not going to give anything away. But it is a Huge Mystery and one that Ere needs to solve Pronto.
Then there is the Mystery or maybe I should say 'Mysteries' of these Quest that the Jade Emperor is having them go on. Oh, and the mystery of the Seventh Sister.
Add to that, each journey is a mystery into itself.

A lot going on.
Twist and Turns everywhere.

This one had Benjamin & Annie going on the journey instead of Ere & Sorin.
It was fantastic to see how much they have matured and just reading about them. I loved that.
Also REALLY loved that little twist with Merlin.

For me, there was a couple of small areas that seemed to lag just a bit. But they didn't last long.

Brigid and The Pale Prince (Sai) were awesome characters. Their connection to each other was spot on. The way that played out was beautiful and so was their 'Steamy' scenes.
Lord have mercy they definitely set the pages on fire with their sex scenes.
Romantic, intimate and just
'Fan Me Now' I think I'm melting HOT.

The big showdown was intense and well done.

Loved how Benji dealt with the JE.
And Sai! You are one smart cookie!
Fantastic ending.

And thank you Aja for putting up with me.

Myth of Dragons is the fourth installment of the Dragon Tails series and by far my favorite. Yes, definitely the favorite with this series. Overall favorite of Aja's though? Hmm... there's definitely some stiff competition for that prime spot.

For some odd reason, I've been really into historical fiction books. Mosty within a certain era too. So, when I saw that this was going to be set in the Victorian Era? Well, I basically screamed with all sorts of joy. Then I met the characters and fell even more in love. Seriously, Brigid and Sai were absolutely everything. Though, I can't forget my main guy Benji and Annie either.

Together they went on an adventure of a lifetime. Where they may or may not have had to kick some ass and take some names. Alls fair in love and war with an un-named mysterious master behind it all. Throw some water dragons into the mix and a dash of unicorns and I'm hooked.

Unfortunately, we still have the unknown lurking in every dark corner. The unknown circles around Sorin and Ere. Two people who deserve the utmost happiness and should be together living their best lives. It pains me that we still don't have answers with what's happening to Sorin. It breaks my heart to see Ere so torn and not know what to do.

I'm seriously hoping for answers in the next book. I need happiness when it comes to these two. I would also like more adventure with Benji and Annie. Not sure if Annie's story is next but I wouldn't be mad if it is. All I wonder about is who I have to compete with for Benji's heart. I already had a battle for Sai's, and I'm not fully prepared for another one so soon.

Myth of Dragons is a fantastic installment into the Dragon Tails series. Aja James always manages to create an amazing story that is so unique and beautiful. I was not anticipating the character changes that happened but I LOVED it so much! Sai and Brigid are breathtaking, I love their relationship and who they are. I was so excited to see characters from the Pure/Dark one series. The book for me is a game-changer in the series. I am thrilled about some of the stuff that was foreshadowed and I am intrigued to see what will happen in the next book.

I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving ARC.

In this book Ben and his friend Annie, go on a quest in order to find the myth of dragons, since Ere doesn't want to leave his mate that is unconscious :(
Ben and Annie travel through time and appear in the Victorian England, where they meet the magical Heroine named Brigid and a beautiful ancient dragon named Kai.
Kai needs to conquer Brigid's heart in order to avoid tragedy, only he doesn't except to reciprocate her feelings....
There's danger, romance, spicy scenes and adventure.
I enjoyed this book so much.
Thanks Ajá, you're the best!!!

First Impressions
I still don't know how or what I am feeling after reading this book. How on earth does Aja James do this to my heart and soul??? And so flawlessly too. I was so relieved when I read this one because I was a bit worried after the last book. But this book literally breathed new life and excitement for me and what this author is capable of. I really went into this book blind, at this point, I rarely even need to read the blurb to read her stories, because 99% of the time I know she will take me on a magical adventure and that is exactly what this book was for me. From beginning to end this book wove a fairytale of time travel, magic, passion, a evil villian and a couple's love that overcomes the evil in the most breathtaking way!

First Line
Nineteen-year-old Benjamin Lark D'Angelo had never been normal.

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Sai
The Heroine: Brigid

The one you love can hurt you most, the one you fear intends to take host Darkness and Evil are not the same, know the difference to win the game

Summary
Benjamin alongside with his best friend Annie are called to take charge of the quest to find the "Myth of the Pale Prince" with Sorin suffered a sickness of sorts and Ere not in the state of mine to handle the quest. Annie and Ben are taken to the time of Victorian England which is where they run into Brigid, who is a woman with her own type of wealth and independence and having a love for literature especially those of magical fairytales, not fully realizing the magic that resides within her. Then we have our Pale Prince....Sai. Said is a water dragon with immense power and magic within him, but has been held prisoner and tortured for many years. Now he has a chance for freedom....but it might cost him the love of his heart, but sometimes not everything is as it seems and the woman of his heart.....could be the key in revealing that love does conquer all...

It was the most inappropriate time to come to this self-awareness: She always knew she wanted the pale prince of her dreams. Wanted him as a playmate when she was a child. A friend and companion as she grew older. Now, in this moment, as if the brush with death had shaken something loose inside of her, like a ripening fruit that was finally ready to be plucked— She desperately wanted the man.

What I Loved
Myth of Dragons was a bit different than I was expecting but I knew especially after reading some of the reviews that this would be a wild adventure and one that I would fall so head over heels in love with. I admit that it took me longer than I expected to finally pick up this beautiful book but am I so relieved that I finally did though. I was so hooked into this story and I didn't want to let go of it. This book literally consumed me from inside and out and I didn't mind the journey of it. Myth of Dragons is if you truly want a truly magical fairytale that comes to life. Out of all the romances that I have read in my life (And I have read plenty of my share) this is at the top for giving me the fairytale vibes from beginning to end.

We have a strong friendship between Ben and Annie. I adored all of their banter, their sense of adventure and daring and that sometimes a friendship....can be platonic and that is more than okay to see in books.

She shone so brightly. Like the sun always rose within her. She could banish the shadows with a simple glance.

Now we have the world building that just spans so many horizons in this book. We get two timelines of sorts....well technically three. We get the timeline of the present, seeing what is happening with Erebu and Sorin and man my heart can't take what is happening to them. I honestly don't know what the author is planning here but it BETTER be a happy ending for them.

I love you, Sai. No matter what. Remember. You have my breath inside of you. I have yours inside of me. We are one. Now and forever.

Now we have the actual romance between Sai and Brigid. At first, there is a lot of mystery between them and it actually evolves into something I never expected. In the beginning though, its very clear what Sai is...at least for the most part. But as for Brigid...she is nothing like what you expect. At first she seems to be a standard heroine in the victorian era...but not really. She is a hidden fae queen who has magical powers of light and truth. She has a past with Sai, although she doesn't realize it at first. They shared dreams over the years, and seeing these flashbacks were EVERYTHING! (and honestly I am not a fan of flashbacks lol ) But they worked so well and they weren't long which I appreciated. But we see a glimpse of the relationship that has been building for these two. We also see a powerful love that just shines between them. This really what made this book so magical for me. Is how well these two love each other....and love so well and beautifully. And their love is their greatest strength!!! Seeing what they end up being capable of doing, of the evil they face and destroy together was epic in every way and you literally become consumed in that moment of love that just breathes life into you. THIS is why I read romance....its these stories that just brighten my day, heart and soul! I honestly just wanted more of them and never wanted their story to end. And I have a feeling we will see them in future books (or at least I am hoping that we will because I am not satisfied enough lol)

And did anyone see what is happening with Merlin and Annie.....and WOW I did NOT see that happening lol but I need this book in my life. But I also wonder will we get to see the hidden worlds under the sea that Sai mentioned??? Cause I would be so down for that.

Love was not a weakness. It was strength. It was everything.

What I Struggled With
The pacing at the beginning was a bit slow but it picked up quickly.

Overall View
Myth of Dragons is like a true fairytale that has come to life....a story that can compete with the Grimm's, its a story of magical, love, fighting against a great evil and how love does conquer all!

That’s because you are, my Sai, she stated emphatically in his mind. My love. My treasure. My beautiful Pale Prince. My dream come true.

All that I love so much about Aja James's super talented gifts as a PNR/Fantasy author has been exquisitely in full display again in this super gorgeous story. How all the complicated threads that twined and mesmerized all through the story were unfold and revealed at the end totally captivated me until the final words were read. And then? I was left to yearn for more tales to continue!

Loved the inspiring A Midsummer Night's Dream, Victorian London, Scotland Landscape, and especially the author's own mythology of The War of the Gods. Loved walking into this story and living it all with Brigid, Sai, Ben, Annie, and all the rest. What a magical ride!

The mysterious quest Ben and Annie took together in Myth of Dragons hooked me from the get go ➡️ To uncover and retrieve the Myth of the Pale Prince before time runs out.

For me ~ this story began and ended with Brigid Titania Mackintosh and Sai "In the east, they call me Saiyan . . . You may call me Sai." The Final fight scene when Sai and Brigid defeated The Master, his torturer who imprisoned him for untold millennia, was hands down the best, the most satisfying triumph Ever‼️ And the many passionate, hot, steamy scenes🔥 Trust me, no one needed to use your own imagination. Not. At. All. If you still wondered whether there was more, how about this ➡️ Wouldn't you want to find out how the very first sea dragon courts his Mate?

There wasn't much left I could reveal here, unless I hid the entirety of my feelings in a spoiler tag. But please, I urge you to pick up this super magical fantasy and experience Brigid and Sai's love story plus other interesting characters' predicaments and heartaches in person. Please hear me ~ Aja James will always deliver!

With deepest gratitude to the author for the gift of this precious ARC. The above honest review was absolutely from the depths of my heart.

Okay I have to say this book blew all my expectations out of the water!! (Just like a water dragon 🐉).

Here I was thinking it was going to be just like other books with fae creatures I have read about. WRONG!! It was awesome!! I have to say I have always thought the lore about the fae world was very interesting. There are so many different creatures, some good and some evil, and so many rules that should be followed with them. With this book it was nice to see the nice and beautiful side of the fae world. The ones who help and wanted to make sure others thrive. I found that to be magical!

Now let’s get to some characters shall we. Brigid is a awesome character I loved her! The fact that she was a daydreamer and could pretty much dream with her eyes open?!? She won me over pretty quick! (Seeing as how I find myself daydreaming from time to time 😂). And the fact of her being a Queen. She was so sweet and humble. She helped Ben and Annie without a second thought. She healed a dragon! Like what’s not to like about Brigid?! And Sai…. Oh boy! He is a amazing character as well! The way Aja described him I could just see him in my mind, and he was beautiful. The colors and his personality! He is just a site to behold when you picture him. Overcoming evil and darkness, and find the light within himself with the help of his true mate!! Breathtaking!!!

I love the fact that Ben and Annie were the travelers in this one. I don’t know how many times they had me laughing. The banter back and forth with these two, and the way they always tried to come up with something on the spot. Hilarious! I could just picture the confused looks on their faces at certain moments! Just loved it!

And now the sad part….. there was laughter and joy for me, but Ere and Sorin’s parts almost had me in tears. I won’t say to much cause I don’t want to ruin it, but I was breaking into to pieces for the both of them. I keep telling myself everything will be okay. Everything will work out. But I’m still breaking apart for them. I’m worried and scared. But I will keep faith that everything will end how I hope it will.

All in all this book had my emotions all over the place. Which is what we all want in a amazing book right? Something that transports us into another world, and leaves us begging for more at the end. Well I can say without a doubt this one did that!! Love the story and I can’t want to see what will happen in the next one!! Thank you Aja James for this amazing adventure! Not enough stars to give any of her books! I highly suggest everyone read this series!!

Happy reading!! 🖤🖤🖤

Helllooooo Victorian Era!! I absolutely loved loved loved everything about this new quest.

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In this 4th book of the Dragon tails series things are moving differently than the fist 3 and wow was it thrilling!

Ere & Sorin: I'm super sad and really anxious about them. Sorin is in a coma state unable to come out of whatever "illness" that has a hold on him. Ere refuses to leave Sorin and is drowning in fear and grief.

Ben & Annie: Since Sorin is not well and Ere refuses to leave him, Ben decides to take on this quest. He of course takes his best friend Annie with him. I just loved reading about them and getting to know them as adults. Their friendship is amazing, their witty, sneaky, brilliant minds at work is even more amazing. We get a glimpse of Annie & Reds encounter and well I just CANNOT wait for more. Ben & Annie fall into the Victorian era for this quest to find the pale prince. This is where they meet Sai & Brigid ♡.

Sai & Brigid: There is soooo much I want to say, but I don't want to give too much away. I absolutely love Sai ❤️. He is the sea dragon (3rd of the 1st dragons and brother to Ere and Kai). Brigid is probably one of my favorite female characters so far. She is not your traditional beauty... oh no no... she gives us commoners hope haha. She is a little plump and curvy, has frizzy untamed hair, large eyes with coke bottle glasses, smart, witty and just simple. She is simply beautiful and Sai cannot seem to stay away. Swoooooon!!!! Anyways... they battle many demons with Ben & Annie's help and their story is perfect.

This book had everything in it. From love and adventure, your nasty dark demons, mysterious dreams and dreams walking, dragon fight, hottttt dreams and steamy nights and just so so much more. I highly recommend starting from book one since the story flows. Also if you haven't read P/D ones before, I recommend that 1st since the characters would make more sense with the back stories. I now have to patiently wait for the next book .. sad sad day 😞.

Another fantastic story by Aja James!

While the general story can be considered a standalone, for the greatest enjoyment, reading in order of the series is recommended. My first foray into Aja James’ stories was the first book in this series, Dream of Dragons, but because I loved that book so much, I quickly read every other book in her catalogue. All her books are intertwined- readers will see continuity in characters and stories. Her descriptive style is lush and detailed and I quickly fell in love with her world and the many characters inhabiting this multifaceted and expansive world.

Typically, in this series, Ere and Sorin, one of my favorite couples of all time, two fated mates that have suffered unspeakable tragedy to find each other again, lead the charge to fulfill a quest that is mandated by the Master Shifu and the Jade Emperor. Tragedy strikes though and so in their place, Ere’s son, Ben, and his best friend, (and another character from the Pure/Dark Ones series) Annie are sent on the quest in their stead. And off they go to Victorian England!

In their quest they encounter dragons and magical beings and a pervasive evil darkness. The romance between Sai, the dragon, and Brigid (read the book to find out what she is) is beautifully written and compelling. Sai’s back story is heart breaking and watching him open up and experience life with Brigid is gratifying. Brigid, as a character, is a gift: she places her heart and her light above any physical attributes: in her, beauty truly is way more than skin deep!

Together, with the help of Ben and Annie, they need to fight the dark force that is trying to keep a hold of Sai and capture Brigid. Nonstop excitement punctuated by plenty of steam and of course, a bit of humor make this book a must read. I missed Ere and Sorin as the adventurers but I enjoyed Ben and Annie as a duo. Overall, a wonderful next entry into this fantastic world that Aja James has created. I can’t wait for the next one!

I just can’t get enough of this author’s storytelling. You can see that a lot of research is put into her writing and her characters. I never thought I would enjoy reading historical books because of the era in time, but after reading so many books by Aja I am very intrigue to find myself searching the internet to see the historical sites mentioned in the stories with a few spins to them.

Now for my review….
The Jade Emperor summoned Ere and Sorin again for another assignment however, Ere & Sorin are unable to go on this journey since Sorin has fallen ill. Again, Ere is not too happy with Shifu for not healing his mate and voices his anger which of course causes Shifu to silence him AGAIN (Ere is not one to hold his tongue.) LOL

So now Ben jumps in to save the day with his most trusted friend Annie who refuses to be left behind and decides to take up the task of travelling, and Ere who seems as if he’s been slapped in the face by Ben’s decision. I thought this idea was wonderful because Ben has always been intelligent and Ere is not happy that his son volunteered for the task so that Ere can focus on his mate Sorin.

After understanding what it is they must bring back since Ben is a thinker, he just wants to be certain what it is they are to come back with. (Ben wants to be sure are they bringing back a thing or person?) LOL

I enjoyed Sai and Brigid as they were both wonderful characters. Here’s the Fairy Queen of Light telling a story about a Prince to the children all while this said Prince is watching from a distance, but Ben sees someone whom he assumes is the person with his good friend Annie standing next to him. Of course, Brigid is oblivious to these two travelers who are listening in.

I like that Sai was able to see his brother Rai/Ere since so many years had gone and he realizes that Rai’s incarnation is surprising, but now he can see Rai/Ere. I notice that this is the only book where the author has written where the characters are able to travel between realms.

This author is very thoughtful and have a way of capturing the audience and have you on the edge of your seat and trying to guess the next scene. All I will say is that this author is fantastic.

Is this wishful thinking to read Annie and Merlin later somewhere? I’m seeing a rabbit being pulled out of a hat by Aja? 🤨🤔

Full review to come, I have to find the words.. Ere , poor poor Sorin, Ben, Annie, Sai, Brigid and Merlin the red dragon. I just can't with them all! In love

First let me say that Sorin and Ere are breaking my heart and I sure hope that Sorin comes back to us. Ben and Annie went on the quest and met Brigid. The way that Sai came to Brigid was just simply amazing and their story took my breath away. Their love story was everything. Just simply amazing but Sai story was so freaking heartbreaking. I can't wait for the next book because the ending of this one there are so many ways we can go. Annie, Merlin, more of Benjamin and SORIN!! YES!!

Heavy Sigh for Sai

The platinum sea dragon who would put Adonis in shade and could give Ere a run for his money in a game brash boldness. Beau Brummell would quake in his boots if ever faced with our dashingly opulent Sai. (Brummell was a shit of the 1st water who screwed men’s fashions to this day!) Our silver Sai! Pardon if I wax poetic about Sai, he’s just swoon-worthy! Sai’s bold but naïve demeanor is utterly beguiling and refreshing.

Having been much like Brigid myself in my teens & early 20s, I totally get her and her living more in her dreams to drown out the doldrums - and utter bullshit - of reality. Hell I read books just like this one to escape from reality on a daily basis just to save my sanity.

Now that I have soapboxed it a bit, I will get to the nuts and bolts. Well written and constructed. Love that each book in this series is a small vignette outside of the bigger world building, but still manages to become part of that greater world by the end of the story. Characters a deep and yet mysterious. Especially quintessential silver Sai. My, my, my…

The one thing missing Ere and Sorin. Ben & Annie were not an adequate replacement for the Black Dragon & his Phoenix. This is not to say I dislike them, far from it. They are just not Ere an Sorin, bottom line. Ere’s irreverent sarcastic joie de vivre is inescapably missing, as is Sorin’s quiet strength, wordless wisdom, and nonjudgmental acceptance of the world. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, but I miss them. I think I get where the author is going with this in the long haul, however, I don’t have to like it.

Wow

I loved the story of Brigid the Fae Queen, and Sai the Pale Prince. So glad to be back in the world of the dragons. Being back was like a cool drink after a long drought😂..For me this story ended with a lot of unanswered questions. We still don't know what's wrong with Sorin. Poor Ere, it's hard to fathom his pain. He has endured so much pain and heartache already. Hopefully Brigid/Sai, can acquire some knowledge to help him before it's too late. Let's hope so. And Ben and Annie all grown up with their own stories to be told. Especially Annie, who is somehow linked to Merlin, the red dragon at the Celestial Palace. Also, who or what is the Jade Emperor's true identity and that of his "Master?" The books with the answers are not coming out fast enough🙂. I can hardly wait to see what Ms. James has up next in this series. In my opinion, this series just keeps getting better and better.

Brigid and Sai (sigh)…😊 They were both inexperienced and shy, so they took some time to get the hang of it… but when they did… wow!… they were unstoppable and their desire was insatiable!
Old times Victorian courtship and wooing turns into boiling hot desperate unending love making marathons. Another adventure totally worth reading.

There is nothing that Aja can’t do. I love that Ben and Annie got their adventure. Love the coming of age story and I’m so looking forward to seeing who Ben’s soulmate is going to be. 🤩❤️
