I was just a bison rancher from Montana when a bear attack almost killed me. Now, I’ve awoken into a brutal world where everyone is part beast, and their animal instincts are taking over. Something sinister is in the air, and werecreatures of every species are colliding with teeth and claws. But I’m the rarest and deadliest of all: the werebear. Surviving in these savage lands will mean fighting off the predators and protecting the innocent prey, and to do that, I need to become the true apex predator. And the one rightful king of this world.
To simple, crunched timeline, bare bones, waste of a good idea. Mr. Vall has been putting out books faster and faster lately. Either he has some poor ghost writers on the hook, or he's over extending himself to the detriment of quality writing. I know he can do better and he should.
Cover art looks like a elementary student colored it and designed it.This I must protect everyone goody two shoes hero 💩 repeated over and over literally in every chapter gets old.The plot is there if you look for it.I’m being generous with three stars.
Another new series that is high octane with lots of action spread liberally throughout. There were issues to begin with in this book with regards to cover art not loading properly when it first went on sale. That caused the book to garner bad reviews and almost resulted in the book and the series being pulled. I'm so glad it all got sorted and the cover art was fixed. This is up there with his best works and I am now impatiently awaiting the next book. The characters develop at an excellent pace and the world is really fleshed out well. A number of different antagonists means that there will hopefully be a number of new books on the future. All hail the Barbarian king!
There was enough in the story to keep it from being a Gary Stu situation (male version of Mary Sue), but just barely. And, quite frankly, it really was more of a Gary Stu story than anything else. The mighty alpha male who attracts all the women, easily defeats his enemies, and is "smart enough" to seek the wise council of "the elders". A masturbatory wish fulfilment for the author. I'm more describing what a Mary Sue/Gary Stu story is than telling the plot of this book here, but . . ..
Right, so. Story opens in Montana. And it was actually kind of riveting following along as a rancher rounds up his bison, notices two are missing, and goes to try to locate them. And it was sad what happened. Beyond other stuff, a polar bear, which shouldn't be in Montana, attacks and almost kills the main character. He crawls away, into a cave, and when he wakes up he is on another planet (though he doesn't immediatley realize this fact).
Before he can explore his situation, he hears screams from a woman, as if someone is trying to hurt a woman. He investigates, finds a snow leopard (he knew it was a big cat, didn't know it was a snow leopard yet) being attacked by three wolves. He, himself, is still injured, he is out of bullets, and is only a human man. But when the wolves slam the leopard into a tree, and she becomes a human looking woman, and wolves have rape in their eyes . . he rushes forward and. . . .. stuff. It's a Gary Stu story, you know what happens next. Easily accomplishes his rescue and the gorgeous woman lusts after him for saving her.
It was an interesting story. Not too bad. But that wish fulfilment part was a little to huge to overcome; heightened when all the woman want him (he rejects them but for "his" snow leopard . . until a deer attracts his eye . . . and naturally "his" snow leopard is more than okay for him to fuck the deer (okay, let's back up and note that the snow leopard & the deer are a were-creatures and no fucking in animal form occurs), which greatly increases the "yep, this be a Gary Stu story.")
What can I say except this story was well written and I love the way the characters interact with each other it's spelled so much real and very realistic to me. Almost as if it was not make believe. Anyway I digress I really enjoyed the world building and I like the different personalities and I had an entertaining read and before I knew it the story was over such as the first book. I really really like to read another continuation hopefully a second book comes soon.
A shifter series that breaks the mold and gives us a brilliant and varied world with any number of shifter species that always gets overlooked in mainstream media.
The story itself is fun, fast paced and action packed, with plenty of amazing characters, world building and lore.
I really hope this series gets the credit it deserves and plenty more books to come!
Call has hit another home run with this book! Attacked by a polar bear in Montana Lucas wakes up finding himself in a new world populated by were animals. After saving the village from their former alpha, he begins to consolidate a new Kingdom with himself as the king. He has beautiful snow leapord woman and beautiful deer woman who take him as their mate. Fast paced adventure and wonderful characters. This will be an excellent series! Read it!
Although it does felt rather rushed, the story was a fun read. The Mc and his group goes into battle one after another without the biggest strategic plans, but this is all excusable because they are hunting wild animals thus there’s no need for smart tactics or even armour. I do wish the art was as good as Building Harem Town’s art tho. Still pretty nice imo.
So once again we find another Eric Vall MC making waves. So what does a man do after just arriving in a strange land? Why become king of course, is there any other way to go. The adventure the scenery all brought so vividly to life. You will not be disappointed with the new saga from Eric. And remember "It's good to be the King!!"
Lucas, a Montana rancher, is swept through a portal to a new realm. He discovers that he is a bear shifter. Not only that, but he is the white bear of legend. Mating with beautiful women and taking down despotic leaders ensues. I like the action, humor, lust/love. I look forward to the next book.
Simply put this story is incredible, the moment I finished I needed the next one! The world building is fantastic and you will absolutely love the characters and premise! I cannot wait for the next one!
Once again Eric Vall has done it. A story that is thoughtful and well written, yet isn't long winded or dull. It keeps you reading and entertained from page one to the finale. The romance is sweet yet steamy. Well worth the read.
I enjoyed the new premise of this series. I don't know many that don't enjoy the weird creature mythology, I look forward to the next book just like the rest of Eric Vall series.
This was an OK entry in the genre, but Eric normally produces a better product. Once you absorbed the few changes to the standard were characteristics the plot was straight forward and simple. As were the M/F relations.
I liked it anyway, hope you do as well. It kept this old man interested and turning pages as fast as I could. I'm a 100% disabled veteran and about all I do anymore is read.
Excellent opening story using wereanimals. Animal hierarchy and food chain examples are everywhere including instances of animals being out of control. Can’t wait to see the direction the story takes.
Eric Vail has started another great series. His imagination is only surpassed by his writing abilities. His descriptions of the various characters is excellent
Nothing extraordinary about this book, but nothing bad about it either. It is a bit bland, and you know what is going to happen the whole way through. Still a fun, little read.
