Kazuya has finally figured out what he feels for Chizuru, just as she’s about to give up being a rent-a-girlfriend for her big break in acting. Except there’s still a lot of growing up to be done and it’s not all on Kazuya’s head this time either.

Funny how this series improves when it’s focused on not adding a bunch of characters that serve no purpose except to muddy the waters between Kazuya and Chizuru. This is a pretty solid volume, all things considered, and a definite step up from last time.

Partly because after all this time, Kazuya seems like he wants to be better than he is. While he seems to think he’s being a creep for going to Chizuru’s play, which I don’t really think is the case, it’s pretty decent of him to support her.

And she kind of needs it. The play itself is a really great showcase for what Chizuru can do and the author sells her abilities quite well. It illustrates all the work she’s been doing and helps Kazuya realize just how much effort she puts into things.

Then Chizuru, despite stealing the show, gets a lesson in real life and we learn that she’s not the invincible superwoman she’s been portrayed as. I don’t necessarily fully love that change to her, but at the same time it explains a lot about the way she’s portrayed herself so far in the series.

Kazuya hasn’t made her more vulnerable, she’s just very good at hiding it. And for all she lashes out at him, there’s clearly an element of seeing some of her worst traits reflected in him and wanting him to be better than that.

We’ve finally reached the point where the barriers are coming down between the two and that’s pretty interesting. The outcome of their rental date this time proves to be a fun character piece and Kazuya gets to be somewhat honest with Chizuru’s grandmother.

If anything drags down what would otherwise be a fun little bit of business it’s the actual harem stuff. Kazuya’s supposed to be dating somebody else and he keeps running into Sumi, who has a bonus chapter that confirms she’ll be a problem in future.

Again, if you’re here for the harem stuff you’ll find this volume less enjoyable than I did, whereas I just want to see a relationship develop here. I do recognize that I’m the problem, this book’s not truly about that, but it’s what interests me.

3 stars, precariously close to a 3.5 even. If Kazuya can learn to be a decent human being and they can show a little vulnerability to Chizuru without wrecking her, I think this just might be on to something. Oh, and I’m sure we’re in for yet more hilarity in the harem department. I mean, Mami hasn’t caused problems for a whole volume now.

Dammit, I hate how much I enjoyed this volume. This series is a rollercoaster of quality do to the paper thin plot and repetitive dramatic conflicts, but damn when this series gets emotional it is AMAZING. I loved seeing Chizuru perform and while there could have been more build up to the play's conclusion, it still hit pretty hard. I really liked seeing Kazuya be so supportive of her and try to bolster her confidence; when he's at his best he's a pretty solid guy. I just wish he could get his shit together, be less impulsive, and at least try to solve his fucking problems.

It does bother me that Kazuya actually asked Ruka for permission to continue dating Chizuru, but considering how dysfunctional both Kazuya and their relationship are, I can't say I was surprised. And once again, Ruka proves that despite being younger, reckless, and bratty, she's leagues more mature than Kazuya. I also loved seeing more of Chizuru's grandmother and getting to learn more about Chizuru through her. Seriously, the grandparents in this series are the best and I absolutely adore them.

That's all I've got, but I did really enjoy this volume. I would say that I'm hoping the series maintains this quality, but clearly that's not gonna happen. But I'm still looking forward to more and hope that Kazuya grows up a little.

Oh Kazuya... I don't even know where to begin!
I really did enjoy this volume, it was a bit of a slower paced one but, it had a lot of good Kazuya and Chizuru moments.
Didn't think it was possible for Kazuya to fall more in love but after watching her act, he definitely did! Which is so cute!
I know that man struggles in all aspects of life but it was nice to see him be there for Chizuru (for once and not just when saving her life lol). And I feel like in this volume we got to learn more about Chizuru, which was so nice because I do want to learn all about my girl!
Also! That bonus side story of Sumi just warmed my heart! I love her as well!
I'm not sure I am a fan of Kazuyas parents... like every interaction we get of them makes me dislike them more and more... and the one with his Dad in this volume was no different. They just aren't good parents so, I'm glad he has his Grandmother, though sometimes she can be a bit much haha.
I'm also not 100% sure how I feel about Ruka... but I'll write about that another time.
Anywho! My favorite part of this whole volume was all the little moments we had with Kazuya and Chizuru, where they were starting to open up to eachother and start a bit of friendship... and the last few chapters with Chizurus Grandma! Ah melted my heart!

I’d read an entire series that’s just Mizuhara trying to get into the acting business. I also appreciated the relative lack of fan service for a chunk of it.

It’s a guilty pleasure but it really hits that teenaged boy fantasy sweet spot that makes me feel nostalgic for when I was day dreaming of how I’d wind up with my crushes when I was a lot younger. The sort of insane, convoluted things this series prides itself in. I think the strong character writing and art helps a lot too. I just want these dumb kids to get together, and I’m… worried that this is going to get maddening with how much more of it there is.

This was a pretty cute volume.

We got a lot more of a decent Kazuya this time. One who actually wants to help Chizuru, and not just be a pervert all the time. I mean, don't get me wrong, he's still a MASSIVE pervert, and he runs a sweet moment by checking out her knockers, but it's still the words he says this time to push her forward is nice.

I will say the ending was sweet, and I'm liking where it's going with Chizuru, but I'm sure kazuya will fuck it up somehow. But watching him go to the batting cages was really fun.

Things continue to grow between Kazuya and Chizuru.

He's finally done it. He's confessed his love for Chizuru to her gramma. Now, he has to figure out what to do about his "real" gf and also Mami, and let's not forget shy little Sumi. Kazuya needs to do some serious thinking. If he is going to promise Chizuru's gramma he will take care of Chizuru, then he needs to devote himself to her completely and wholly.

//谢谢MOE的借书分享!!!

封面人物:水原千鶴

Hayaku-kun realized that he loved Chizuru-chan hahaha.

After a year, you would think these two would be closer… able to fully communicate… Kazuya is too insecure and Chizuru is too hardheaded…
Time is flying by but not much is happening (and yea I know that they STILL won’t be together by vol 20…ugh) but part of me loves these characters and the art so much that I’m willing to be tortured!!!!! lol

Pretty much the same old same old in terms of there relationships, even if they personally have changed.

Yet I'm still liking this series, like I'm usually one to get annoyed when there isn't much signs of development but the emotional scene's really make up for it in my eyes, I do really want to see some developments for them but as it stands I'm still enjoying the way it's going.

Mizuhara shows her skills as a brilliant actress. Kazuya becomes aware of his own feelings. But as usual, to get through the story, they continue with half-truths. Chizuru also feels something. She appreciates Kazuya for who he is.
