Wife and mother of four, my days have been reduced to begging for the littlest to sleep so I can have time to write my books. I'm blaming my reduced schedule on Cupcake.
Facebook is the best place to find me, or you can sign up for my newsletter here (https://leannryans.com) to keep up with current and upcoming projects as well as special promotions and such.

I grew up on Sci-fi and Fantasy books with some of my favorite authors being Anne McCaffery and Mercedes Lackey. In 2013 I discovered paranormal romance and delved into a whole new world. After reading Omegaverse stories from Addison Cain and Nora Ash, I had the idea for The Omega Prize and decided to take a shot at writing a book of my own. The beginning was rough, it took two months to write the first five chapters, but as my 2019 New Year’s resolution I said I was going to finish the story and committed to writing every day. It didn't take long for the book to begin telling itself, and from there I just kept going.

Most of my books are Omegaverse, but they span other genres like Sci-Fi, dystopian, and historical barbarians. There is even a small-town Enemies to Lovers Romance story in there. They main contain dark elements but I wouldn't call them dark romance since my alphas tend to be a little mushy in the center. I promise there's always a HEA.

Omegaverse role reversal!!

Oh. My. God. That cover!! Ka'vin is so striking. I know they said he had ebony skin, but the complete blackness just screams alien. I wish I could see his lavender eyes better. He's so sexy kneeling there in submission.

So this is an Omegaverse in reverse! We have Scarlet who is a rare female alpha and Ka'vin who is an even rarer male omega. Scarlet's friends pull strings to get them into the very posh creme de la creme omega auction, and they pool their money to buy Scarlet a surprise for her birthday....Ka'vin!! From the moment she saw him on stage, she was entranced and pulled to him unlike any other.

Ka'vin has had a tough life so far. He was abducted and forced to work in a pleasure house for the last 12 years before getting rescued and sent to find a mate through the omega auction. When his eyes meet Scarlet's in the crowd he is transfixed and drawn to her as never before to any other alpha. He's sad when she doesn't bid, but excited when he finds out he was bought as a gift to her, so he gets his wish to be Scarlet's.

It takes a little bit to get past the awkwardness and get to the truth that Ka'vin is happy and really wants to be claimed by Scarlet, after he sees how thoughtful and caring she. Nothing like the abusive mean alphas he's dealt with in the past. Scarlet is worried about if she is enough to keep Ka'vin happy, but with their chemistry and the way they are drawn to each other like magnets, she decides to go all in. Ka'vin is excited to take a leap of faith and go all in with Scarlet too.

This was a sweet and steamy little short. I loved the change up in the dynamics. I just wish it was a little longer.

Even though this is an ARC review. I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I wanted to like this one more than I did.

Because I love unusual and off-beat OV stories that involve less written about dynamics. So I was really jazzed to have a male Omega/female Alpha read.

Kathryn Moon has set that bar pretty high for those designations. I am super in love with all of the female Alpha side characters she included in her Lola books. And Rafe was just a phenomenal male Omega. Beatrix Arden also writes these two dynamics in her OV shorts. I'm not as big of a fan of her female Alphas because she also shies away from making them truly assertive and more Alpha aggressive, but her male Omegas are a blend of what we consider Omega traits with masculinity.

Unfortunately, Ryans admits in her afterward to having a difficult time writing a female lead she doesn't identify with personality-wise, and it shows. Submitted is short, awkward/uncomfortable, and stutters in many places. Our Omega didn't feel Omega but rather a beat down soul who had given up and our Alpha was pretty faint-hearted and unsure of herself the whole time—absolutely mirroring Ryans' stated ambivalence.

I think there could have been a really heart-felt and amazing story in here, but it needed longer to cook and encouragement to push the boundaries and be bold. Someone needed to challenge the thought process here to promote growth and creativity.

Omega Ka'vin is written as a hollow shell whose main trait is waiting for orders like a slave. Not nurturing. Empty. Completely broken down. He didn't even really have much going on inner monologue-wise. And no growth and refinding himself after his long-term trauma. He was the weak point of the story for me, because I was getting zero Omega Feels from him. To write a male Omega, you have to be able to look past our socialized gender binary and break out of it.

Males are handled a bit differently than females. While the women go on the online Omega Market, we’ve found males need to be assessed in person to find a good match for both the alpha and omega.

AH.

Do I even want to get started with that bullshit up there? "Omegas are rare and precious, but the female ones are all interchangeable and can be bought sight unseen. Pussy is pussy. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️"

But that illustrates what I feel is the big sticking point for why Ryans struggled to write this: she couldn't think outside of her socialized gender binary, which the bulk of het OV reinforces to the extreme. How can you write characters you're unable to imagine?

Alpha Scarlet was a fair amount better, though still could have used more pushing and development in sections. She started off with a lot of promise—I was very Here for how she cared for and protected her girls from predation, that's some Big Alpha energy I can get behind—but she fizzled fast and then was wishy-washy the rest of the story. Good start, didn't follow through. Even her dialogue felt awkward as she tried to praise Ka'vin in a way that mirrors Good Girling female characters, but I got the impression it just made her uncomfortable try and imagine. So it fell flat and lost its heat.

This is not Ryans' best work. Liked the premise; execution fell flat.

This was my 2nd ever read of an Omegaverse story that had a female Alpha, and just as I thought this isn't really my genre. I must say I just can't really get on with it when it's a female Alpha. But that's not the author's fault. :)
I do love male Omegas, but I love them with Male Alphas and even better if there is Male Alpha and Omega female + male haha.

The story itself takes part in the same universe as the Omega Market books which I did enjoy quite a lot. :)

I recognized Scarlet from another book, and I did like her.
Ka'vin's story is a sad, though not uncommon story for the Omega, but him being a male makes him even rarer. I really liked Ka'vin and he broke my heart at times, I was really happy to see that Scarlet and he fit together so nicely.

The book is very short and I finished it within an hour. This bothered me a little bit because I feel like there is more to tell, more to discover. Which is why I'm giving it 3,5 stars. I didn't feel like the book was finished, rather it was more rushed.

However, it's a sweet InstaLove story. :)

I gave it 3,5 stars. :)

Liked that it wasn't too extreme

What I liked: That Ka'van wasn't TOO submissive & pathetically servile b/c I like men who act like men. And I'm glad Scarlett wasn't overbearing and TOO dominant b/c I don't like women who act like aggressive pseudo-men and call it 'feminist' or 'independent' (i.e. she acted like a woman and liked being pretty & feminine as much as the rest of her female friends.) I don't typically like female domina & male sub stories b/c the aforementioned pathetic, masochistic men & overbearing, domineering, mean, & sadistic women who populate them, but I REALLY liked this story b/c those traits were there but a lot less extreme.

What I didn't like: I've read other Omega Market books and with the female omegas, all of them referenced one or more female omegas who were REALISTICALLY defiant or bitter about being "collected" and sold at auction. ALL the male omegas described THIS book were complacent, resigned, and even *aroused* at the idea of being "collected" & sold at auction. It was pathetic, unrealistic, and weird. Even if you're a more 'submissive' male, can't you have some dignity & the right to feel angry about your situation?

‎Too. Freaking. Sweet! 😍

‎I picked this book blindly without knowing anything about the world the author had built before this. I didn’t read the first three books; I was just so impatient like that 🙂 I couldn’t resist the temptation of my favorite trope, which, up until now, had always left me satisfied with every book I read.

‎Glad this baby didn’t break tradition 🥰

‎Auction plotlines usually made me roll my eyes because they were so common in omegaverse, and one book with this trope had traumatized me so bad I actually considered getting a therapist. But Submitted delivered it so well. No over-the-top drama ✨

‎I loved that the MMC, Ka’vin, had already accepted his fate. It was such a unique take because most MCs in that situation would have been drowning in tears … but it also broke my heart knowing what he had been through. I just wanted to wrap him up in a pile of blankets and shower him with kisses and candy. 😭

‎The FMC, Scarlett, was super likable too. She reminded me of Maggie from one of Sara Cate’s books, Mercy, because of how soft she was with Ka’vin. The way she dominated but also asked for his consent and made sure he was comfortable melted my heart 🥺 Who didn’t love a respectful and gentle mommy? 😏

‎In just 15 chapters, the author managed to build their relationship in a way that didn’t feel rushed or weird to me. The pace was perfect. 😘 The smut was good and happened at the right moments. And the scene where Ka’vin built his first nest literally made me stop reading, scream into my cat’s fur, and apologize to him. I might have had a soft spot for Omega first nest scenes like that 😳

‎My only complaint was how short this book was. I read it in one day, and after finishing it, I knew I would have to dig through Goodreads and Facebook groups to find something similar 😩 It made me sad how books like this were mostly written as novellas 🥲 I could easily have read this as a 500 page novel with a touch more trauma and angst, and I’d 100% have printed out the pages and wallpapered my room with them 👍

‎And the TAIL? I had never read such a creative use for a tail like what Scarlett did to Ka’vin, probably because I didn’t normally read monster romance. SO. HOT 🥵

‎Anyway, I might have to book a dentist appointment because of that sweet ending.

I am very not alpha, and if you had asked me to imagine what a female Alpha would be like, I would not have imagined Scarlett. She really did not seem very take-charge or dominant; in fact, most of the time she came across as floundering and not knowing what she was doing. As for Ka'vin, as an Omega he's sometimes extremely subservient and at other times bold, telling her, "I want to taste you first," when Scarlett is about to mount him. That struck me as very odd and too take-charge. If anything, he should be asking permission, not demanding.

I wished there could have been more discussion of Ka'vin's experiences. He and Scarlett develop instalust, which can be explained away with Alpha-Omega dynamics and pheromones (such delicious scents!), but for Ka'vin to trust Scarlett so instantly seemed highly unlikely after all his experiences of being abused at the pleasure house. He wasn't even suspicious, hardly even worried that she was putting on an act to lull him before turning on him. He must surely know that some Alphas can be manipulative and that what you see on the surface is not what they're truly like, that their true colours could emerge later.

If Ka'vin and Scarlett had connected more on an emotional level, this story would have been a lot more satisfying and believable. I wanted emotion like what Lola Rock gave us in Pack Darling and Kathryn Moon gave us in Lola and the Millionaires. I wanted the push-pull of hating how his Omega nature tended to rule his biology and trying to push against it to protect himself and his heart, as Lilah did in Pack Darling and Cyn did in Sam Hall's Good Girl. There was no emotion here; Ka'vin says he has been used harshly in the past but no details are given so we can't fully empathise, not really knowing what had happened to him. His behaviour is inconsistent with someone who has endured years of captivity and abuse: he sometimes seems traumatised by his experiences but at other times seems accepting of them. Look at what he says:

Some alphas were sadists, and while male omegas could take male alphas, it wasn't quite as easy as the females. He'd had his share of stitches in uncomfortable places to repair what was done to him.

So clinical, so unemotional. Do you feel your gut twist when you read that? Do you feel your heart bleeding, experiencing his pain as he experienced it? Do you want to immediately go to him and wrap him up in your arms and make him feel all better? So different from how Lola Rock took our hearts and wrung them out as we experienced Lilah's pain and isolation and rejection. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the difference between 'telling' and 'showing'.

Scarlett's interactions with Ka'vin are awkward and there's no tenderness, no bonding. Scarlett as Alpha is supposed to be protective of her Omega, not just in a 'kneel in this corner so that other Alphas can't see you and desire you' way, or a 'here, this is bedding for you to make your nest' way, but also an "I care about how you feel, I'm sorry you had such painful experiences, how can I help you heal, you are safe here with me" kind of way. But she never once reassures Ka'vin, even though he panics when he thinks she is going to return him, and she knows how badly he fears that he may end up being sent back to that life. Nor does she have any sort of conversation with him about what life with her will be like, about her job, about the fact that she's constantly travelling.

In terms of sex, she tries to ensure that there is consent, but doesn't account for the fact that being overcome by Alpha pheromones might possibly compromise Ka'vin's ability to consent; she doesn't touch him with tenderness and make him feel that he is wanted for himself, despite knowing that in the past all the clients of the pleasure house would have just wanted him for his body. I think what sits ill with me is that he was bought, like a slave, so essentially, what she does is to more or less treat him like a slave. Although she ensured that he had something to eat and drink, she didn't treat him with consideration -- like someone with rights and feelings. Like, she brought him home with her, then promptly went to sleep without a word, leaving him feeling anxious and not knowing what to expect, what to do. I really felt that in all her interactions with him, she had zero empathy.

Also, I wanted to know what species Scarlett was, because she has a tail. Is she a shifter? What? No information given here. Couldn't we have had some conversation between Scarlett and Ka'vin about their home planets, their life, their families? Arrrrghhhh so disappointing :(

I've never read anything with the reversed omegaverse trope before, and was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved it. The heroine was a true alpha in charge, but caring. And the hero is simply adorable and sweet. My only complaint is, I would've loved to read it as a full-length novel.

Decepcionante.

The normal dynamic for these stories is a male alpha and a female omega, but this is the reverse. Scarlett had given up on finding a mate until her friends treat her to an auction for her birthday. Ka’vin has had a rough life since his first heat twelve years previously. Happy to be owned by Scarlett, her reluctance to be an 'owner' almost derails this relationship.
Sexy, sweet, but fulfilling all of the usual aspects of this trope, as with all of Ryans' work, it is well-written with well-drawn characters and a - for such a short story - carefully constructed other-world

I was intrigued by the title, the cover, and the blurb about this book. It is a short read, but for Alpha/Omega enthusiasts, this one is a hit. I love the role reversal, in that the male is the omega and the female is the alpha. I did enjoy the book, but I would have liked more story. It was over a bit too quickly. This was my first read by this author, so I look forward to more.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was vivid considering the short page count. It was fascinating to see how different the Omega Market treated the male omegas. The characterization was good, with the hero especially being a sympathetic individual. The heroine was kind and protective toward the hero, too. The development of the romantic relationship was very quick, since the story was so short. The heat level of this story was three chili peppers. The plot was spare by necessity and the pacing was quick. There was surprisingly low angst considering the hero’s past trauma and high stakes. I enjoyed that, though I probably would have preferred more angst on the part of the hero considering his trauma history. However, the length of this story precluded angst being resolved in a satisfying way for the reader, so I think the author made the best choice there for a story so short. This novel used the F/m trope, the Bride (Husband?) Auction trope and the Mating Bond trope. I thought the world building, plot, and pacing were all four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy a female Dominant and male submissive in their romance novels. I look forward to reading the next book in the Omega Market series. I will probably not buy myself a keeper copy of this story since it was so short.

After spotting that beautiful cover, I really wanted to read this one and I'm glad I did. Ka'vin has lived many years in a pleasure house being treated badly and used like no one should be. When he's finally rescued he thinks things will be different but in this world him being a rare Omega male just means that he's going to be sold off at the Omega Market to an Alpha female if one will even have him after where he's been.

Scarlett is out with her friends but she doesn't realize they planned to bring her to the Omega Market so she can bid on an Omega Male. Scarlett is an Alpha female which isn't as common as an Alpha male and she's not sure that she wants the commitment of an Omega male since she works and travels a lot for work.

Ka'vin is hoping that he finds a permanent home with an Alpha female who will treat him better than he's been treated in the past but he's not holding out hope for that. He is in a cage with the other Omega's so the Alpha's can come take a look at what they might be bidding on later. He feels a pull to her and she feels something for him as well but she's not sure that she's going to bid on him, so her friends buy him for her as a present.

I really liked the female Alpha dynamic instead of the male being the Alpha. Scarlett isn't sure she's what Ka'vin needs or that she'll be enough to keep him happy but he really wants Scarlett to claim him as hers. This was a short, sweet novella and I was happy to see Ka'vin find happiness after being a slave in the pleasure house for such a long time.

Okay, it’s a two day read if you love to read like me and can binge read right through during the weekend. But completely different from what I imagined an alpha female would be.

It’s definitely a re-readable, the emotions are felt deep, the imagination of this universe is definitely a beautiful image, and the story although short was worth reading.

In manga an alpha female is basically like a hermaphrodite. But in this book an alpha female is like a femdom woman but what I like about Scarlet is she has a tail because of her alien species. So there is definitely a use of her tail on our tall pretty omega male.

🌶️Spicy pegging scene in pages 83-85🌶️

I do wish they would have made more details, like maybe showing how Ka’vin healed from his past because of the warmth and love he receives from his alpha female Scarlet. I would have loved to see him grow as a person in the world she made for him to feel safe.

But it was a short read. However, totally worth it and I don’t regret buying this book because of the details and emotions shared. If the author did make this story a bit longer I wouldn’t mind buying it and hope for more and of course don’t forget the switch in the spicey scenes.

That’s all for my personal report 🫶🏼

This is such a wonderful quick read. I really wish it was longer and I know that the author can make it so much more. But, she probably has her reasoning for it being a shorter book so I just have to settle for what she gives us. This story takes place within the Omega Market series so it's a great addition as male Omegas has been mentioned in the previous books but they've mainly focused on the female Omegas. It's totally sexy to see the reversal of roles, to see a confident female Alpha who is strong and can hold her own, yet still feminine and beautiful. And our Omega, got me tearing up at his history and his insecurities because of said history. This author always seems to maintain the line from not making it too dark even if there are darker situations her characters go through. Although I won't complain for any dark Omegaverse, LOL. But this is one of the main reason I read her books because of the lighter side, which gives me some time to breathe and refresh myself after reading a darker one.

Intriguing, but just meh.

When I started this book, I was tentatively curious in regards to a male omega and a female Alpha. The role reversal, to me, was intriguing, but I wasn't sure if it would deliver. On some parts I felt like it did, but overall I was left kind of wanting. The introduction of the female Alpha, Scarlet, raised my hopes. She was protective, possessive, and commanding in her presence. I also loved that the author gave her a tail, but felt like she hid it more than a true Alpha would have. Something just didn't sit well with me the way Scarlet and Ka'vin interacted or even their first meeting. Scarlet just didn't seem to behave Alpha-y enough. As the book goes on I thought they would develop more of a relationship or share more of their backstories, but it remained incredibly vague. I have read most of this author's stories and love them, this one just fell kinda flat for me.

I feel robbed.
Others have left amazing in detail reviews of why this story doesn't work, so mine is gonna be specifically of why i feel robbed/cheated

Someone recommended this one in a group with the frase "He is gifted to her". Ok, that's intriguing, already picturing an omega sex-slave scenario
Then I look for some the "dedication" or author's note at the beginning: *Sometimes, we want them to wear the cuffs!*
So.... where are my cuffs? Because other than the initial transaction of purchase he doesn't even wear a collar

The "spicy" scenes are the most vanilla thing I've read in a LONG time.
Really, Scarlet's dominance is implied, but never shown
I don't think the author knows what to do with a dominant female, or didn't gave herself the time to actually explore it, because this was VERY short.

1 star because it was so promising, but didn't delivered anything.

I picked up this book solely based on the amazing cover and because Leann Ryans is one of my One-Click authors. I didn't even read the blurb before I snatched it up so I was a little surprised when I noticed that it was a male Omega. I was also hooked. Ka'vin is an incredible character, but it was Scarlet who captured my heart. I really love the female Alpha dynamic and hope it's something this author writes more of. I loved that she was able to be the strong protective one but she was more sensitive than a lot of male Alphas. It gave the story a sweetness that I found refreshing and beautiful. But really, that cover is one of the hottest I've seen and I could just stare at it all day.

👾 Always love me some omegaverse with a male omega x female alpha. In this version of it, male omegas cannot get pregnant.

👾 Kinda short and has some exposition dumpy moments to set things up quickly, I understand it, but wish the book was just longer so it could be told more organically.

👾 Really liked Ka'vin, he was adorable

👾 Reason for dubcon shelving:

I read this when the author had in a different anthology and loved it. This version is different enough to feel like a new story but has similarities to the original. I love that you get to read about a female Alpha. There really are so few on the Omegaverse. My only complaint was I wished it were longer! I liked how Ka'vin was also a unique Omega. He was short for his race but tall for an Omega. I really wish we could know more about him, his past and his race. As well as Scarlet's race. I hope the author has these races again in her series.

Finally, an alpha female romance!

Loved this take on the alpha/omega dynamic. With the help of her meddling beta friends, Scarlett, an alpha female, encounters her mate (Ka'vin) in the unlikeliest of places, an omega auction. I appreciated the dual point of view here - both experience uncertainty and longing and both must learn to communicate through their difference. I read both the original version and this longer, reworked one and enjoyed both. There's significant changes between the two stories so you can read without fear of redundancy.

Never did I ever think there would be a humanoid alien I found truly off-putting, yet here we are. All I could think about was that hairless prehensile tail, thickly muscled and presumably blunt at the end like an opossum. Not one of those cute Australian ones either. (Virginia possums are a delight but no beauty queens, don't come at me).

Otherwise an ok story. Very short on backstory and details of pretty much any kind. Eh.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED SUBMITTED!!!! Hands down. I love the characters dynamics. How he was omega yet wasn’t afraid to take what he wanted sometimes. I love how he wanted to take care of her and I loved how she didn’t force herself on him until she knew he really wanted her instead of forcing him into submission just because she was an alpha. KUDOS on another fantastic story!

It was the tail...

This is my first foray into the Omega Market so I didn't have much of a backstory to bounce these characters off of. Their circumstances piqued my interest but it was the tail that hooked me LOL! I've never read one used in such a way. So I will read more of this Omega Market, revisit Scarlett and Ka'vin and maybe do a better review for them. ⭐⭐⭐ for the story, the other ⭐⭐ for the tail!

Loved A Female Alpha!

Submitted is a novella length story listed as book 6 on Amazon however it can be read as a standalone or as suggested at the end of the Flawed e-book could be read at anytime. I read this after Flawed and there were no spoilers for any other books in this series so I can assure you, you can read this at anytime. I do recommend reading the rest of the series in order though. The books are too interesting to miss and some of the characters and events are referenced or pop in for a visit in each other’s books even though each book has its own storyline and HEA!

I loved Submitted because it is a different take on the usual MF Omegaverse dynamic. Ka’vin stole my heart and I loved that Scarlett embraced her unexpected birthday gift! There is a lot of heart here, supportive friends and formed family and the perfect amount of spice. I would love to read about some of the other male Omegas that appeared here in Submitted, they seemed like fascinating characters. I am immediately moving on to Owned!

This wanted to be a good book. The concept was interesting, a reversal of the human sex slave trope. But the execution was not great. The writing clunky. And after 61%, when they had built absolutely NO relationship except for the pheromones driving them to mate, it was all erotica. Not what I thought going in.

This was my first omegaverse with a female alpha main character and I had been wondering how this kind of dynamic would work. I enjoyed it, but I wish it had been a longer. I'll need to read more female alpha stories before I can know if this is an omegaverse dynamic I'll enjoy reading. Right now I don't really understand it.

Brilliant short read.
Scarlett is a rare alpha. Protective of her friends as the only alpha in the group. Her friends take her out for her birthday, a night full of suprises. And for her present... they get her the ultimate gift.
A brilliant read
