Who doesn’t love a wedding?
The dress. The venue. The guests. The ceremony…
Too bad this bride would rather kill the groom than attend.

My name is Scarlett Mason, and on the surface, I’m just your average college student. What you don’t know: demons, Fae, Hellhounds, vampiric sorcerers, and a whole slew of creatures from the Underworld are very much real, and they walk among us. How do I know this? I’ve been training since I was ten years old to become a hunter in the hopes I’ll be able to find the monster responsible for killing my parents. But you know what they say about even the best laid plans…

After a gorgeous psycho kidnaps me, I find myself trapped on a hidden island with him and his posse of Underworld assassins. I’ve spent my entire adolescence learning how to slay their very kind…so why are these men claiming they can help me? As it turns out, we have a mutual enemy: Hell's very own Crown Prince of Greed. Even better, he's looking for a bride, and he hopes to find her at the Underworld’s most illustrious masquerade ball. The thought of going should be terrifying, but it offers so much more than the world’s worst love match.

Revenge.

This Cinderella may be going to one Hell of a ball, but I’m not interested in dancing with Prince Charming. Nope, my plans involve a dagger…and the left side of his chest. Hey, it’s my party. I can kill if I want to.

I had been drugged, I was running after a fox, and there were a shit-ton of guards running after me.

Um, are we sure this isn't going to be a reverse harem? It's kind of weird to not be able pinpoint who the love interest is in a paranormal romance. Scarlett finds all of the males attractive and kisses half of them. We were passed the 75% mark before I even figured out who the man is on the cover.

I love Victoria's writing, and that makes it all the more crushing that this disappointed me (especially considering how long we had to wait). While this book contained her usual eloquence, it lacked coherency. It's not edited near as well as usual. There were occasional proofreading errors, whole paragraphs repeated, and it generally just did not make sense. I felt confused half the time and I still don't understand the important stuff. And the first 75% of the book lagged, lagged, lagged.

It just lacked the magic of the Marked Mage series. Sure, there was magic - but it wasn't magical. It didn't enrapture me. A large portion of the book was just the MC running away, being captured, running away again - and you guessed it: being captured. The only things of interest occur in the last 25% of the book where we're hit with one hell of a plot twist, but it's explained so poorly that I was too busy re-reading to fully appreciate it.

We really should have been told more about our main character. As it is, there's nothing unique about her. I'm not sure I could even describe her personality. And damn, she was slow to figure anything out. I was able to guess things about the other characters (like their species) a lot quicker than her. And err, what did everyone else think of her relationship with Nick? He's her adopted brother and she seems to see him as a brother but ... how do I put this politely ... I'm pretty sure he's in love with her. And I don't know how I feel about that.
“How’s that old saying go? 'Don’t bargain with the Devil and then bitch about the heat.'”

“Don’t tempt the Devil, darling, and then be surprised when he wants a taste."
As for Dominic, he's surprisingly charming. I really loved his character ... for most of the book. I very much wanted him to end up with Scarlett but their romance was brushed over. I actually felt sorry for the way she treated him at times. In fact, she seemed to have a bit of a romance with everyone and it was always forgotten about just as quickly. Yet, she had to bring up the "slut-o-meter" which I thought was uncalled for in a 2021 book.

This is one of my favourite authors, so it's with a heavy heart that I leave a negative review. The lack of a release date for the fourth Marked Mage book, combined with the disappointment of Bedeviled, makes me question how much longer I'm going to be a fan.

Also, don't go into this expecting a Hades re-telling! Hades the Greek God is not relevant at all. Neither is Cinderella.

Okay so I was really really looking forward to reading this book and Victoria Evers does not disappoint!
Like can we talk about how the plot twists quite literally gave me a whiplash? I am avid reader of YA fantasy romances and at this point I can pretty much guess the whole damn plot after reading like 30 pages of a book. But with this book this definitely was not the case. I was so curious that I ended up finishing this book in one go.
Also the CLIFFHANGER! Evers gave us a pretty good clue about what is going to happen next and I'm so excited!!!!! Dominic better have a happy ending tho, I have a feeling that his past is as bad as Blaine's *cries* (the scene with drunk Blaine literally made me want to bitch slap Kat even if they're together now she literally treated the dude like vermin before)

Granted I was a bit confused at some points like when there seemed to be like 5(?) love interests at the beginning and I was just like was this supposed to be a reverse harem???

And a few of the paragraph were repeated like the one with Nick and eloping and the one when she kissed Killian and Dominic(another user also pointed that out) though that is probably an error in the manuscript.

And now I'm just gonna fangirl over Dominic bit cause he's got Silver eyes that change colour according to his moods
He's a fucking FAE!
THE ACCENT!!
HIS CLOTHES!!!
( I love him so much I'm gonna diee)

All in all I love this book and am probably gonna go back and read it again lol
Victoria Evers is still my favourite author

Ps this was actually my first proper review that I ever wrote so idk if I'm actually making sense or not BUT YOU BETTER READ THIS BOOK

Disappointed

Letdown and confused - let me start by saying I am a huge fan of the marked mage series, but this new series did not do the author justice. Victoria Evers usually does a very good job of setting the scene and dragging you into the story but this book fell flat. I don’t feel like I got to “know” the main character (what did she even look like?!) and the whole plot was basically her running from one person to another and back again without much information or EXPLAINING WHY.

All of the characters seem to be male, and very attractive and all kissed her (I wondered if this was a reverse haram for a while, very weird). The author even used the same exact description for the way Killian and Dominic kissed.-literally the same order of words and everything (bit bottom lip, fisted hair, saw stars ect..)

I was so excited to have Dominic as a main character, and was hoping for some slow burn romance between him and scarlet, but I felt it was glossed over. The author didn’t give us an inside look into the characters’ emotions or actions, I felt like I was reading a narration rather than as the main chapter experiencing all of this.

the end felt rushed and left me confused, and not I’m a good way what just happened, was that it?! The ending was supposed to be a cliff hanger but I am not sure what I am supposed to be surprised about?

For those asking, yes, this takes place in the same bookverse as The Marked Mage Chronicles. The book begins at the same time INSIDIOUS ends, and it features the Crown Prince of Lust, Dominic, Val, Lila, Nick, and Crysis. 😉

Oh Ms. Evers, you never disappoint

I must confess that I was a little upset that we were getting this spinoff instead of book 4 of the marked mage series but then Dominic was introduced and I was like, alright then. I was surprised that this story seems to be happening at the same time. I loved the scene of Blaine/Sitri drowning his sorrows. And getting more Val!! I have a feeling Scarlett & Kat are going to connect at some point. When does Dom get hexed? I'm super excited to see how that plays out. And what was implied there at the end with the fated mates? Can't wait for the next book!!!

Love the underworlders

Victoria has done a wonderful job with this book!! I was under the impression that it would be a standalone for some reason, but am extremely excited that it's not! I love the world she has created and how she can make even the most feared or "evil" character end up being so relatable. So yea, read this book! I look forward to book 2.

Unbelievable book

The action and excitement in this book is overwhelming. There are so many twists and turns, I feel like I just came down a mountain. What a ride. The story is like nothing I have ever read and the characters are phenomenal. Magic and mayhem around every corner. Wonderfully done. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Promising start to a series

I loved everything about this book. The pacing was spot on , there are plots and subplots aplenty, and the characters are well defined and believable. Can't wait to read the next one!

First of all, I would recommend reading "the marked mage" series first- otherwise this book won't make a lot of sense. I read it already knowing a lot about the world and the characters and was still confused at times.

I think the book started out great - I love that there is a lot of nuance and no clear "good" or "bad" factions, but different morally grey characters no matter their origin.

It had so much potential for conflict and character development for our MC who was raised to hate another group of supernaturals. Unfortunately that wasn't really explored - instead we get a strange twisted "love-multi angle"...I stopped counting how many love interests were introduced at some point. Five or even six?- if we count the strange relationship with her adopted brother...
At some point I was even wondering if this was leading to a reverse harem plot or something.
I wasn't emotionally invested in any of them. I also have a hard time if a heroine is desired by literally ALL guys she comes across.

The plot was also messy and confusing- ALL characters had some hidden identity and twisted motives...at some point I just rolled my eyes because it was too much.

However- I loved spending more time with the characters from the "marked mage" books and I liked the beginning and some of the extended world building I gave this 3 Stars.

It's still entertaining, but I think the author overdid it with the love interests and plot twists.

I am not going to lie, this book left me thoroughly confused with the information overload all throughout. I had to keep going back to check who was who every time I was introduced to a new character. But that did not deter me from reading this book. It was sooooo good. I am so mad though. I HATE cliffhangers. AND THE DOUBLE DECEIT?! UGHHHHH. I am so mad lol WHERE IS BOOK TWO

Oy

This one was seriously twisty. What a mess throw at the end. Holy cow. Magic and nonsense. Brutal and well described visuals. I want the next book. ...now.

Scarlett has lived up to her 18th birthday protected by her adoptive father and brother because she has a rare gift of spotting hellhounds... but it all turns out to be a lie, there's a mark on her thigh, and lots of dudes doing things for her that doesn't seem to make sense.

Here's what I didn't like: I sometimes think the author needed an editor or a proofreader because of questionable word choices, awful dialogue tags, and words completely missing from sentences in order for them to make sense. Also weird formatting / book design decisions. I really don't know if this was a reverse harem or what. It took a very long time for things to happen. Sometimes Scarlett was TSTL other times she was okay, and I still don't know how or why some of these dudes did what they did, and the plot seemed to be all over the place. This isn't a new take or anything on this kind of story, just a different angle and I'm not sure it worked out. I'm not sure what the point of the prologue was since it didn't really add anything, esp since the first chapter had a bit of everything in it.

Here's what I liked: Most of the voice for this book was fun, but then it also became pretty annoying. There is something to be liked here, but I'm just having a hard time pinning it down.

Overall, this read... ugh. I just wanted to know who the prince of greed was, but I wonder if it was merely a waste of my time since I didn't enjoy much of this book. I'm left frustrated.

I was not expecting how spectacularly good this book was. I'll be honest, I didn't read the blurb. I saw "bride of hades" series and a pretty cover, and figured it'd be yet another Persephone + Hades retelling. Which is awesome, but certainly not what I got.

This book was so wonderfully complex - filled with plots upon subplots, multiple love interests, twists and turns I didn't see coming, and fantastic characters. The book was well-written, fast-paced, and filled with some pretty sultry men. I was blown away. I didn't run into obvious typos or plot holes, every character was interesting and had their own, often hidden, motives. It was ridiculously fun to read, and I loved every minute of it.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys urban fantasy romances. I'm 100% going to be picking up further books in the series.

First let me say I am a fan of the Marked Mage series, I like Ms. Evers writing, and have been waiting for her next book. I was a little disappointed that she decided to do a spinoff before finishing the original series, but that didn't impact my rating.
I don't agree that this could be read as a stand alone, I definitely think reader needs to read Marked Mage first or things won't make sense.
With that said, I am just confused. There were too many 'love interest potential' characters, and it just got confusing, seriously, I have no clue who I am supposed to be hoping she ends up with.

As with her other books, the story ends on a big cliffhanger. Which I assumed would happen, but the delay/inconsistency in book releases make the cliff hanger endings frustrating.

I felt that this was a good book overall - not going to become a favorite, but I could read it again and will continue with the series whenever the next book is released. Without the last few chapters of the book, this would have been a 3-star read, but the last few chapters bumped it up to 4.

There are several men introduced that you can't help but like, even when you don't want to. Some scenes with a certain eccentric gentleman were absolutely swoon-worthy. But at the same time, a lot of the book was confusing and things weren't well explained. I also couldn't keep the names of a lot of the characters straight toward the end of the book. I found her referencing people whom I had no idea who they were, which was really frustrating.

The character knows how to fight and is pretty badass, but I did get tired of her trying to run from the guys. Some parts of the book felt repetitive, but there are a lot of plot twists that kept me reading despite the repetition. And the ending made me eager for the next book. Unfortunately, given that this book was written in 2021 and the second has not yet been released, it seems doubtful that we will get to learn what comes next.

Fast paced, but so Fast the story development suffered. Hard to even keep track of character names much less their role. That said decent brain candy. May or may not read rest in series. But afraid if I take a break I'll forget all the names.
