In this book, we will be learning directly from simple sentences in Latin and you may be surprised how easily and quickly you will acquire this beautiful language. Let's go!
Back in the summer of 2021 I was awaiting the start of my university studies as an adult. I was very excited to start the history course on PPKE and when I saw Latin in the curriculum, I immediately thought that I do not want to go there not knowing anything. So I started searching on the internet and found the great channel of "Easy Latin" on Youtube. It was easy for me - being proficient in English - to join in and go through the lessons. I did learn a ton from just a few basic videos. I now revisited the first 15 courses and also saw this "book" for Kindle made from the lessons. I decided to support the channel and buy it and this book is actually a transcript of the video audios. It can save you some time writing out the examples and sentences, or to read the lesson materials again if paper is more familiar than Youtube. I do believe though that writing out for yourself is part of the learning process.
The materials are great, and the author is great in describing basic grammar and even linking the new words to their English equivalents. And the stories give you the first meaningful texts in the new language. Of course, you need to be quite advanced in English to be able to use this method, I have not encountered a great Latin-teaching app or channel yet in Hungarian. It was also great that the 2nd time around when I went through these videos I could really understand almost everything, even some nuances. So for every would-be Latin learner out there, if you're already good in English, then try the learning via listening method to learn Latin instead of memorizing conjugation and declension tables as taught in the traditional way. These courses give a great initial basis upon which to expand vocabulary, actual grammar and study more advanced texts later.
