Kion and Tiryn have not heard from their mother since the war began. It’s all but certain she was captured by the haukmarn army and Kion blames himself. But with his magical blade, Truesilver, at his side, he’ll take on a whole host of foes if that's what it takes to get her back. He only hopes his sister—who won’t be left behind this time—doesn’t get hurt along the way.

Read the second book in the epic Swordspeaker Saga series, a tale of legendary weapons and the heroes who wield them.

DJ Edwardson traveled a lot when he was younger. These days he’s busy crafting exotic destinations of his own. Although he has written both Science Fiction and Fantasy novels, he likes to say he writes in the “genre of imagination.”

He has a degree in English from Cornell College where his emphasis was on the works of Shakespeare. He’s tried his hand at both acting and directing in the theater, but these days is happiest with a pen in his hand. He lives in Tennessee with his family amidst an ever-growing library of wonderful books.

Another truly fantastic, epic journey from DJ Edwardson. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. Kion, Zinder, Tiryn, and Kythian continue their quest, now with the single-minded purpose of finding and rescuing Kion and Tiryn's mother.

I did spend most of the book wanting to shake Kion just a little bit. He grew up so much in book 1, and in this story he just seems to be super intent on stubbornly making all the wrong decisions. Of course, I can understand why he made the decisions he made... but understanding what he was going through did not reduce my desire to shout at him upon occasion. The character building continues to be top-notch, and it was wonderful getting to know Tiryn better in this installment, she is such a sweetheart, and she is such a wonderful little sister figure... and yet, she also has a core of iron that was fun to see more of in this book. Zinder continues to be the wise mentor figure and I just love him to pieces. I desperately want to know more about the nyn in general.

There were more truly heart-stopping moments in this installment, and I wasn't sure anyone was safe as the characters plunged into deeper and deeper danger by the page.

The world-building continues to be breath-takingly intricate as Kion and his companions traverse across the miles of landscape, taking you as the reader along with them around the map. DJ always puts such a delightful amount of thought and work into his world-building and this story continues that trend.

I very much look forward to book 3!

Wow! It's been a long time since I loved a fantasy as much as Rimewinter. Very solid characters you'll fall in love with, unique storyline, and Christian ideas woven in (but not so obvious as to discourage secular readers). This series is making my fantasy-loving heart happy. Also, can we please talk about that gorgeous cover?!
I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!

Book one, Truesilver, was a favorite of mine, so I was so excited to check out this sequel . . . and it did not disappoint! Talking weapons, a hero I adore, his sister who gets a bigger piece of the spotlight this time, and their hilarious and wise sidekick, plus a breathtaking fantasy world, and a quest across the land. Featuring peril and ice and a winter like you’ve never seen . . . plus an icy fox that stole my heart! It’s truly epic and perfect for fans of Prydain, Ranger’s Apprentice, or the Wingfeather Saga. <3

Strong sequel to Truesilver. Both books are YA-fantasy, but both are appropriate for adults. The writing is strong, the worldbuilding is excellent, the characters are well-drawn. What more can you ask? Cover art, you say? Got it -- the cover art is outstanding on both books.

Rimewinter is a little darker than Truesilver, and MUCH colder, with most of the story in a frozen setting. (I loved the blue snow, and the ice animal, the frox.)

Highly recommended. I'm definitely not YA (I'm 75!) but I thoroughly enjoyed both books. DJ Edwardson has a nice website (djedwardson.com) and a newsletter if you want to follow his work!

I received a copy of this book from the author.

This is a story of love and trust. The love of a son for his mother, a sister for a brother and an unbreakable friendship. It is also of the trust of a Swordspeaker in his glaive.

It held me from the very first page through to the last and left me wanting more.

Be prepared to laugh out loud and also have a box of tissues to hand as this story gets rather emotional at times.

I would have given this book more than 5 stars if that were possible. It was a real treat.

This book is so well-written! It makes you feel everything: the intensity, the despair, the pain, the hope. This second book of the saga is a very serious novel, but there are many moments of fun and joy sprinkled throughout so it never gets too overwhelming. Wonderful!

Excellent sequel to Truesilver.
This is one of the few fantasy series that can enchant both me and my young children. Charming character, with plenty of action, humor, and tragedy, and many life lessons woven in, without ever being tedious. Highly recommend.
