One year of post-doctorate research separates me from the career that will get me the heck out of Rhode Island and away from my obtrusive parents.
I expected Dr. Greyson Bedford, a sexy British professor from Oxford University, to upend life on campus, but I didn’t expect him to do the same with my heart.
Despite his persistence, I keep to myself, but when a migraine strikes at work and I have no one else to turn to, he gives me something unexpected: a connection I haven’t felt in years. His touch opens a conduit to my past and the accident that almost robbed me of my dreams.
I swore I’d never let anything get in my way again, especially a brash heartthrob who will return to England at the end of the school year.
I had a plan. Not the best laid plan, but one semester with him changes everything.
Limey Bastard is a standalone story inspired by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s British Bedmate with appearances from Simon, Bridget, and family.

5Star Review of Limey Bastard (Cocky Hero Club) by Skye Callahan
Skye Callahan is a relatively new author to me which is why I jumped at the opportunity to read and review as one of my favorite things about the Cocky Hero Club is finding new authors.
Dr Greyson Bedford is a visiting British professor and he is about turn Makenna (Kenna) ’s well planned life upside down.
There is definitely a spark of attraction sizzling between them, the question is do they act on it or try and ignore it? For Kenna, she has had a long road to recovery after an accident almost cost her everything and now she is finally within sight of her end goal.
As they get to know one another both professionally and personally, will she dare risk it all for the dashing Greyson who will eventually be returning to the UK and at what cost?
Although this is not a long read, Ms.Callahan has managed to pack a lot in to it. The story was entertaining and kept me interested from the first to the last chapter.
After a devastating accident Kenna has moved forward with her life. Once she completes her final year of research for the University, she is determined to leave town so that she can have the independence she needs. The last thing she needs is to get involved with a visiting colleague especially when he will be returning to England at the end of the year.
Greyson is a professor who is teaching at the University for the year, and he was intrigued by Kenna before he even met her. He is aware of her scholarly reputation however once he gets to know her those feelings only intensify.
Greyson and Kenna give each other exactly what the other needs in their life and I enjoyed watching their relationship unfold.
The hot new British professor on campus has captured everyone's attention. But it's not until he helps her through an incident that he really captures Kenna's attention. Greyson is patient and determined to break through her defenses. Will she let him in?
Professor romances are my jam, and I love that this one is kinda out of the box in that respect. It's not so much about the forbidden deliciousness the way professor stories usually are, rather, it's about a strong relationship that develops when one opens up and the other is their rock.

I wasn’t exactly disappointed–you can’t really be when you don’t expect anything in the first place, and I mean that in a good way, I went in like a virgin–but I saw so much potential that I ended up a bit frustrated. But still pleased.
The main characters were delicious. Kenna was a cute pile of awkwardness, and Greyson was the ultimate anti-alpha male but still sexy. I loved their interactions. There was still some depth in Kenna, with her suffering from a past accident, mentally and physically, and dealing with less than supporting parents. I’d have loved to see some depth in Greyson too though. And I wanted to see their relationship evolving, instead of a two month jump to the defining moment.
I’d have also loved to see more depth into the few side characters in the story. Even the Cocky Hero Club additions looked like cardboard characters with barely any usefulness in the story.
The couple of conflicts that should put a strain on the relationship were resolved quickly. Not that I especially love drama–okay, I’m lying, I love drama… But I thought the designated villains would have actually a purpose. And Makenna’s troubles with her parents deserved a more developped resolution.
A lot of great ideas and two adorable characters in a story that could have been much more.
Quickie
- Series: standalone (but part of the Cocky Hero Club) - Hashtags: #office romance #teachers #nerdy girl #mental health - Triggers: consequences from an accident - Main couple: Makenna Schwartz & Greyson Bedford - Hotness: 3/5 - Romance: 4/5 - + loved the nerdy couple - – some moments/elements deserved to be developped a lot more
Struggling with the lingering effects of an accident that almost took her life, Dr. McKenna (a.k.a Kenna) Schwartz has had to relearn and restructure life. Although constantly battling her parents' tendency to control and butt in, she's just about found her groove professionally. Then Greyson Bedford and his charming, mischief-loving self move to her school for a year and suddenly, Kenna's not so sure anymore about what her future holds. The only thing that's clear is that when Greyson is near, she can think and feel more clearly for the first time since her accident.
Dr. Greyson Bedford didn't expect much when he decided to take time off from his career to work with Kenna, but after meeting her, he's glad he decided to visit America after all. Though she's initially hard to read, he finds himself looking for excuses for them to spend time together. And as he unwraps the total package, he knows that leaving America without her would be the biggest mistake of his life.
I liked the way that Grey and Kenna's story unfolded. For a short read, it held a lot in terms of heartwarming emotions. I only felt that the epilogue - it started out really sweet - ended a bit too abruptly. However, I do recommend the read.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this read.
Limey Bastard was my first read from new to me author Skye Callahan and it was soooo goood!!! Kenna and Greyson are working at the same University and the attraction and spark between them is instant. The banter between them was awesome too, it was just natural and easy...at least once Kenna felt a little more comfortable with Greyson. There a couple things holding Kenna back, and trying to keep her distance from Greyson, and there is also the fact that she was in an accident a few years prior and she had a very long and difficult recovery and is still dealing with some issues from it. The other issues are the fact that Greyson is from England and only there for the school year, and Keena plans on leaving and going anywhere far enough away from her parents who are overbearing, and trying to force her in a direction she doesn't want any part of. So what happens when Kenna and Greyson start getting to know each other better....If ya wanna know what ultimately happens with these two, y'all are just gonna have to read this awesome book!!
Kenna was in a bad accident a couple of years in the past, and it's been a slow recovery but finally she's very close to finally reaching her goals so she can get away from her parents & start trying to live life on her own. Dr. Grayson Bedford is a visiting professor from Oxford to teach at the college, but he's also going to throw Kenna's life into chaos. She doesn't trust easily, but he starts chipping away at all the walls she has up as he definitely has that in it to win it mentality. Their banter is fun & witty while the sparks are flying, but there is that tiny issue of an expiration date since he's only to be there for one school year. This story was on the short(ish) side, but not once did I feel like things were rushed or too much so I really loved it. Now it's your turn to decide for yourselves so those one click buttons won't be hitting themselves! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
4.35 stars This is the first book I have read by the author and it is an enjoyable addition to the series. Kenna is living her life on her own terms, after an accident, doing what she loves. Greyson is a visiting professor, in the same department as Kenna, who has amassed quite a following due to his good looks and accent. From the beginning there is an instant attraction between the two but Kenna does not want any drama during her last year at the university. Will they be able to keep it strictly professional? Overall, this is one interesting storyline with many feels. Watching the relationship between the two unfold was filled with witty banter that brought Kenna out of her shell and gave her more of a backbone to express herself. There were some areas that could have used more development, especially when it came to Kenna’s dealings with her parents. The author’s writing style flows nicely and I look forward to reading more of her work.
Skye writes a wonderful strangers to lovers romance that tugs at your heartstrings.
Kenna has had a rough time of it lately. She had an accident a while back and is still having a huge impact on her life. She is working at the university after getting her doctorate as a historian. A new Dr. from Britain is now working with her. Can she keep her distance or us his charming ways and accent sweep her off her feet? Her parents are not happy with her decisions and there is a wedge in their relationship.
Greyson is the brit that is working with Kenna. Nash, another Dr. in the same office calls Greyson Limey Bastard. Well Greyson decides to play some games on Nash. Will Nash figure out who the gifts are from? Greyson is taken back by the beautiful and smart Kenna. Can he hold it together? Is his sexy banter and sultry talk win her over?
This story was very enjoyable to read. The banter, slow burn and tenderness that Kenna and Greyson shared was terrific.
What a wonderful addition to the world of cocky hero’s. Kenna and Grayson are working at the same University, he is a visiting British Professor from Oxford and she is only has a year of post-doctorate research before she can run as fast as she can from Rhode Island but what happens when the hot professor with the British accent turns her world upside down. Kenna finally has the end in sight after an accident nearly robbed her of all her dreams and goals so will she risk it all for one semester with a man who will eventually be moving back across the pond. This book has it all, it’s captivating, it’s full of sizzling chemistry, it’s entertaining and it has characters you will fall live with so I guess all that’s left to say is you need to one click this gem of a read, you won’t be disappointed.
This is a great addition to this amazing series and is Greyson and Mackenna’s story. Greyson is a sexy British professor who is just visiting the campus, and Kenna is 1-year post doctorate research left before she can follow her dreams and get away from her overprotective parents, and he is about to turn her world upside down. Kenna is still suffering from side effect of an accident she survived a few years previously; Greyson helps her during one such episode. Greyson is patient and understanding in his pursuit of Kenna, but will she follow her heart? This is a well written quick read, which is filled with witty banter, humor, and is an entertaining and all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
OMG! Amazing!! I love Kenna and Greyson. These two are so meant for each other. Greyson becomes Kenna's stability when dealing with the trauma she'd been through. Kenna didn't want anything to do with men at the time but Greyson works his way into her heart. The way he pursued her was perfect. He wasn't pushy. He was understanding and patient. He was there for her even when she didn't ask. The chemistry between them was off the charts. They were hot, steamy, and oh so good together! And the tricks Greyson played on Nash... brilliant. Skye Callahan did a phenomenal job with this book. I highly recommend you read it! You will fall in love with Greyson and Kenna just like I did.
Kenna just finished her PHD and is working on a project of a life time at a college. Greyson is a visiting professor eager to work with Kenna. Once Kenna and Greyson met it’s not only instant chemistry these two become amazing coworkers. As they get to know each other Kenna opens up about her past and these two create an amazing relationship both personal and personally. This was a great quick read that kept me very entertained and wanting more! I have Read this author before and look forward to reading more.
Kenna just finished her program and is now a Dr. She is beautiful, amazing, and has a heart of gold. An accident left her with difficulties that she overcame and it is beautiful. However, when a new Professor enters her life she doesn't realize things are about to change. Greyson is smart and sexy and well he has a sense of humor that will make you laugh. These two will fight what they feel but outside forces will play a role as well. Can these two fall in love and be together or will their deadline meet its end?
Kenna has one year to figure out her next step in life. Her parents want her to give up her job as a historian and go into law. That’s not what she wants, she loves her job. But at the end of the semester it’s over. She is not ready for Greyson to enter her life. Since the accident, she has had trouble with emotions and sensations, and he makes her feel both. Should she risk letting go of her past for him, when he’s only here till June?
Kenna was in a bad accident a few years ago and she is now healing and wanting to move on with her life and get away from her parents. Graysen is a professor visiting campus when he meets Kenna. He will help her heal and is very patient with her. These two are perfect for one another and they both give each other what they need in life!
British professor Greyson comes to America to work in the same department as Kenna who teaches but also transcribes an important work . She has migraines and other issues associated with traumatic brain injury from a fall . Greyson intrigued by her beauty and brains -he had read her dissertation. She questions her ability to put her life back together . Lots of affection and sweetness
A new author for me so I wasn't quite sure what I was going to get going into this one but I was very happy with the story. It kept my interest and had a brilliant storyline that I enjoyed reading. An overall very good story.
Kenna and Greyson are sweet together and I love how their relationship develops and progresses. Kenna has a lot of walls and he brings them down one by one. While there are obstacles in their way, the attraction and chemistry between them can't be denied and I just loved their banter.
I really enjoyed This story of Kenna and Grayson the banter between then was good and I enjoyed reading their story and how he disrupts Kenna’s well laid out plans, but love cones all the wrong moments or is it right moments??
What a very lovely book ( now you have to have read this as if you had a British accent… lol). It was a welcome addition to the Cocky Hero series. When Grayson and McKenna fell for each other it was just delightful.
I don't know that I particularly loved this story, but I DID really love the realistic portrayal of the heroines migraines and post-concussion syndrome. I could relate so completely with her pain, and it gave me the connection that I was missing from the relationship end of things. It was great to see Simon and his family, there was good interaction there. I listened to the audiobook, and it was very well done, love the accent.
Kenna and Greyson's story was an enjoyable read! Unique story line and well-written characters that were easy to relate to. Great addition to the Cocky Hero Club world.
Dr Greyson Bedford Can educate me any time I loved him and Kenna!! I love cute nerdy awkwardnsss I love the dialogue And when you have a British professor to boot?! Sign me up!!! Loved!!!! 💕💕💕
I really enjoyed reading this charming book by Skye who was a new author to me. In this lovely book we have work colleagues Makenna who has a sad story and Grayson a Brit who is over for 12 months working at the college. After falling for each other they have a few twists and turns. They are perfect for each other and this book left me with a smile. This book is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an arc for my honest opinion.
So this one was just ok for me. I liked it, but I didn't get connected to them. The story was ok, but it really had like no purpose I guess. Its hard for me to explain. I guess I just couldn't connect with the characters enough to form a bind with the story.
