Horrible characterization. I think this is translated from French, but there were still a LOT of typos.
The pacing was bad. The dialogue was unnatural. And there was sooooo much suspension of disbelief (the very first of which happens on page one and continues for the rest of the story).
I will say that the ending was very well done. I was tempted to give this 2 stars on the last ~20-30 pages alone, but then I remembered how horrible everything else was...
Though I'll also say the illustrations are great.

So: Good ending, great illustrations, horrible everything else.

zabawa była okej, patrząc w szczególności na okoliczności, lekka, czego się można było spodziewać, ale samo poprowadzenie wątku impostora (czyli najważniejszego tak naprawdę) zupełnie mi się nie podoba.

jakoś połączenie tych kilku teorii (wirus, obcy) wprowadza taki chaos, że nie wiadomo o co właściwie chodzi. samo rozwiązanie też się moim zdaniem kupy nie trzyma - tak jak jeszcze głównego bohatera rozumiem, jest obcym i robi to w ramach zemsty za swoich rodziców i planetę, tak co z alice??? zabiła swoją rodzinę i w ogóle, a jest pewność, że byli ludźmi (chyba, że jakaś adopcja?), więc musi być to sprawa tego wirusa. nie wiem, nie podoba mi się bardzo.

jeszcze kwestia bardzo dziwnej narracji, gdzie słyszymy myśli bohatera i wynika z nich, że jest niewinny, a później w ostatnim rozdział nagle się całkowicie zmienia. nie rozumiem. jedyną taką podejrzaną rzeczą były migreny, ale też się nie pokrywa.

no i tak naprawdę jak ktoś grał w grę to też wszystko wiadomo, nic nowego nie jest dodane poza zarysem (dosłownie) świata, który miał dużo większy potencjał na rozwinięcie.

ale no + za reprezentacje bo nie spodziewałam się jej w takim czymś xd

I wanted to read it beacuse i spent some time playing this game but sadly the book is kinda just a fast cash grab - characters are flat and we don't really get alot of info about them and we don't learn anything new (if you played the game you know everything becsause nothing new happens )

1. Whats their main goal ? 2. Why they live on Polus and how life looks there? 3. Where are they going? Like whats the whole point of their journey beacuse i don't get it.

It would be more interesting if author came up with any idea of her own instead of just basing this book mainly on the RAW gameplays without any personal thoughts or plans.

I don't recommend this book
becsause it's just description of random game that someone was part of - nothing more and nothing less.

Szkoda bo fabuła gry jak i samo umiejscowienie ma duży potencjał ale najwidoczniej nie wszyscy powinni mieć możliwość pisania książek.

My friends got me this book as a joke because we used to play 'Among Us' last year. I didn't even know that someone got the idea to write a book about the game.
It's interesting how the author could turn the game into a book and make a story about it, but I was unfortunately bored most of the time and had to force myself to finish the book.

You definitely have to have some knowledge about the game to read this one, or you're going to have a hard time understanding all the tasks and places they're talking about.

I have been reading for 14-15 YEARS. out of the literal HUNDREDS of books I have read in that amount of time I have NEVER DNF-ed a book. EVER.

The sentence that had me “nope” right out of there?

The book *had* potential, I liked the MC.
I also was genuinely interested in the plot itself, it seemed so interesting!

but the writing style y’all 😭
I say this as an amateur writer myself, but it felt like something 12/13 year old me would write 😭 ✋🏼

S dětma jsme přečetli další knihu, kterou si vybrali sami - asi kvůli hře Among Us. Je libo vyhazování lidí do vesmíru na základě hlasování, krev, střeva, tělní tekutiny, infikování virem a testování s 95% účinností? No, takovou hroznou slátaninu pro děti (9+) jsem snad nikdy nečetl. Raději než tohle si přečtěte třeba Písečníky od Václava Dvořáka a budete mít daleko lepší zážitek.

A thoroughly enjoyable novella for Among Us fans!

I am almost definitely past what I imagine the target age is for this book and if I had to guess, it was written for the teen/YA age bracket. So some “swears” like Damn/Hell and the various descriptions of blood and death are inconsequential to me. Though if you’re giving this to a very young child (<7) I would maybe reconsider for the aforementioned reasons.

The story is, in a sort of double-negative paradox, predictably predictable. It’s a book about Among Us, the premise is pretty clear from the get-go that the entire story is a “who-dun-it” plot in a nearly 1:1 replica of the game itself.

If you go in expecting anything else, you’re going to be disappointed, and if you haven’t played the game, confused too.

However Laura does an excellent job at keeping the reader's interest and moves the potential blame from one astronaut to another with some pleasant twists that I won’t spoil here. It very much does read like an actual game of Among Us, particularly if you play/have played the game as you can follow the report from each crewmate precisely and form your own opinions.

Laura does a good job at transferring the game mechanics into the world of the book and builds nicely upon the pre-existing lore in the game while keeping it realistic - as realistic as “we’re astronauts wearing neon coloured suits stuck in a spaceship with an imposter” can be. As I said, it’s a book about Among Us, a little suspension of disbelief is required.

There is a nice contrast between the lax attitude of voting off players in the game vs the serious attitude towards it in the book. In the game, who cares? Everyone will respawn next round, so vote off whoever. In the book, it is rightly taken seriously by the characters - this is a whole person you’re condemning to death in space.

Speaking of characters, I did enjoy them all and found them well written, if a little surface level and two dimensional at times. Bonus points for adding LGBT representation without fanfare or virtue signalling.

This book could have definitely done with 50-100 more pages of “filler” in order to flesh out the characters and world more and up the stakes in accordance. But with that being said, it’s very well rounded as is, with just enough to form a mental image of the characters and get attached without waffling on.

All in all, I just think it’s a good book. I read it in one sitting and it definitely pays homage towards the source material while being unique enough to enjoy on its own.

J’ai vraiment aimé la lecture de se roman d’horreur. Je dit bravo à l’auteur pour la créativité. Petite touche personnelle, l’histoire aurais été encore plus meilleure si elle aurait durée plus longtemps, avoir rajouter plus de personnage et aussi moi personnellement j’aurais créé deux tueurs humains lié ensemble et un tueur indépendant pour mettre plus de suspense, de confusion et de longueur à l’histoire.

Excellente travail encore ce fût agréable comme histoire d’horreur à lire.

Wow, this worked really well!

Riviere found a great balance between employing as many of the scenarios and mechanics of the game "Among Us" by Innersloth as possible while also going outside of the restrictions those might have imposed for the sake of a good story that kept me gripped from page one without slacking.

Best of all, whether or not one has played the game, I think it works as a really solid, paranoia fueled thriller in space!

It seems like a pretty decent idea to have a video game become a book but I just felt it dragged on, not keen on the illustrations and how wordy it was (haven’t been used to wordy books in a long time so guilty on that part). I skimmed through to the ending and it was meh, unless if it becomes a tv series (like the last of us), the whole experience would be a whole lot better….

Livre facile à lire et plutôt amusant, surtout quand vous connaissez et avez joué au jeu Among Us.
Nous suivons un personnage qui doit à la fois survivre et deviner qui est le meurtrier dans ce vaisseau spatial.
On peut parfois ce mélanger avec les noms et couleur de combinaison des personnages, car il en a beaucoup, mais on s’y retrouve plutôt bien.
J’aime bien la fin, qui est plutôt surprenante.

Gdy cały Internet ogarnął szał na grę Among Us, byłam jedną z osób, które co wieczór zbierały ekipę do grania. Wszyscy byli wtedy pozamykani w domach, więc tego typu gra była idealna. Nic więc dziwnego, że gdy tylko dowiedziałam się o książce, od razu wiedziałam, że będę chciała ją przeczytać!

Książka na podstawie gry? W dodatku nieoficjalna? Czy to się może udać?

Może! "Among Us. Zdrajca między nami" to naprawdę dobrze napisana, ciekawa historia, która bardzo fajnie oddaje klimat gry. Przy okazji nieco zbacza z oryginalnego scenariusza, dodając pewien wątek, który sprawił, że historia jest jeszcze ciekawsza! Całości dopełniają świetne ilustracje (i kolorowe strony!) - różniące się graficznie od tego, co znamy z gry, ale mimo wszystko świetnie oddające jej charakter.

Czy polecam? Jak najbardziej! To dość krótka historia, ale na pewno spodoba się miłośnikom Among Us! Dla osób, które w grę nie grały, raczej nie będzie aż tak dobra - jest w niej dużo terminologii związanej z grą, która nie jest tłumaczona, bo domyślnymi czytelnikami są jednak osoby, które grę dobrze znają.

Książka jest jedną z tych, które mogą zachęcić do czytania dzieciaki, którym z książkami raczej nie po drodze. W końcu jaki miłośnik Among Us nie chciałby poczytać o przygodach grupy astronautów na Skeldzie?

Honestly, I didn't know what I was expecting besides a spaceship murder mystery based off the game Among Us. It's actually impressively good and actually really sad. It definitely could stand alone as a great read even if you don't know what the game Among Us is about I think. The story is very interesting and quite depressing, the bits of world building are well done, and the ending is genuinely super shocking, but makes tons of sense in hindsight. There's also queer representation, which I didn't expect to see in an Among Us-based book but really appreciate. I recommend this to fans of Among Us, murder mystery enjoyers, and people who want to read a fairly short but intriguing story.

Četli jsme společně se synem. Hru Among Us známe, takže jsme předem věděli, o co zhruba půjde. Okamžitě jsme se ponořili do děje. Během četby v nás převládal nepříjemný pocit toho, jak snadno může být člověk z něčeho obviněn, aniž by byl vinen. Knihu jsme přečetli během pár hodin a musím říci, závěr byl nečekaný...
